Join us in this week's episode when we talk with Dr. Leisa Pickering, Learning Disorders Consultant at the University of Kentucky Disability Resource Center. Dr. Pickering discusses the evolution of the presence of learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum and Psychiatric disabilities and how the University had to adjust its accommodation practices to meet the needs of this emerging group.

Today we talk to Ms. Susan Fogg, a Disability Accommodation Consultant with more than 40 years spent working at the Disability Resource Center. Susan shares some of the history of the Center, how it has evolved and the future of disability integration at the University of Kentucky.
In celebration of fifty years of the Disability Resource Center at the University of Kentucky, and with the support of the students of the conjunction with the Cultural Competency in Healthcare class in the College of Health Sciences, we have created the Disability and Higher Education Podcast. Our first guest in our initial podcast is none other than Jake Karnes, who established the Disability Resource Center 50 years ago. Jake is a great historian and he has so much valuable information to share about the establishment of an office for students with disabilities at the University as well, as the University’s evolution in terms of services and accessibility.
