Welcome to the second season of the KIN Academy! Anna Lee and Mitch will be continuing on as your hosts and Co-Presidents this year! Anna Lee and Mitch are joined by Cara Hazelton, the owner of Precision Pilates. She is the founder and owner of the Precision Pilates studio in Fredericton. She completed a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration at UNB and is now pursuing a Masters Degree in Kinesiology. She is part of Authentic Pilates Canada where she is able to coach and train the next generation of certified pilates instructors. She is a mom of two active children and enjoys helping people stay active, running, and teaching pilates! She talks about her work life balance, how to say “No”, and that it is okay to go back to school after starting a business and having a family. She has had a passion for entrepreneurship since a young age and you can sense her passion shine through the whole episode! Matt and Mitch are joined by Luke MacMillan, a graduate of Science in Kinesiology from UNB and current Masters Student here at UNB. He is a certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist working with the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist, and High Performance Specialist. Luke also works part time at Synergy Health and Sports Performance working with one-on-one clients. Along with working both jobs, he offers online training services. In our podcast he discusses what working in the field of Kinesiology has done for him and what life is like after graduation. Luke also enlightens us on his research in his Masters Program. Luke ensures us that life after graduation will be on an upward trajectory as long as you put the work in. Anna Lee and Matt are joined by Marcus Lees, a BA/MA graduate in Recreation and Sports Studies at UNB. He is a certified Personal Trainer through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, a Senior Fitness Instructor, and the CEO of The Football Academy which provides a variety of soccer programs and initiatives to clients and soccer organizations in Fredericton. Along with being a REDS Men’s Soccer alumni, he also represented Team Canada in Men’s soccer at the Universiade Games hosted by Taipei in 2017. He discusses how Kinesiology at UNB was able to provide him with business opportunities to apply what he learned to create change in the community. He also discusses how athletics had an impact on his studies at UNB.
