Diagnosis and management of OAB among males can be challenging, especially given the inherent overlap in symptoms observed with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). The management of OAB increases in complexity as a patient becomes older. This can be due a number of factors, including the number of conditions an older patient needs to managed and the increasing severity of these conditions. In particular, cognitive impairment has become a major issue that has been identified among older OAB patients, with OAB being associated with measurably slower cognative responses. There has been much focus recently into the current state of mHealth tools for urinary continence management, with much attention paid to how digital technology can address the changing nature of UI management in Brazil. Many have recently been calling for a new generation of user- centered mHealth apps that can empower OAB patients through a focus on exercise programs, tailored educational content and ability to track patient- reported symptoms. Although there have been significant advances in OAB treatments, OAB is significantly under-recognised and under-treated within the primary care setting. The UK ranked among the worst hit countries for Covid-19 in Europe, and the severity of the pandemic required recurrent lockdown measures to be put in place. Prof. Chris Chapple (UK) describes what was a dramatic shift in access to care for OAB patients, including disruption of surgical procedures and limited access to diagnostic services. This episode will look at the impact of the pandemic on OAB care, focusing outpatient services management, patients’ quality of life and other potentially serious health risks. Despite the pandemic, use of telemedicine increased, and this is seen as a promising tool to help manage the long backlog of OAB management.
