Zurich, Switzerland is a world-class city. But it's not usually known for musical innovation. And especially for African musicians, it has not been a must-go destination. That's why we perked up our ears when we heard a collection of music produced in Zurich by Swiss and African musicians. The World's Marco Werman has more.
Anchors Marco Werman samples a new collection of songs from Nigeria. The CD is called, "Nigeria Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-Sounds and Nigerian Blues 1970-76."
Anchor Marco Werman speaks with Simon Broughton, editor of a British music magazine called "Songlines." The magazine is celebrating its 50th edition with a list of "50 Great Moments in World Music."
The World's Marco Werman profiles two musicians who are taking part in the annual South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Dutch blues guitarist Joep Pelt and blues guitarist Lobi Traore from Mali recorded a CD together. It's due out in the United States this spring.
