Every year, the Fair Saturday Foundation brings together international cultural and social leaders to encourage reflection on culture and social innovation as the main drivers to build more humane and positive societies.
In these uncertain times we continue to live in, and given the challenges we still face as humanity, what role should culture and social innovation play in building a better future?
[PT] Dia 16. Da lata ao tambor
Elisete Jesús Silva, conhecida artisticamente como Elem Silva, tem 24 anos de idade e nasceu em São Paulo, no bairro de Tatuapé, na zona leste. Com 3 meses de idade, sua mãe Nilzete Silva foi para Salvador, Bahia, onde viveu até hoje. Aos 8 anos, com a ajuda de sua mãe, ele criou uma banda chamada Crianças da Rocinha (favela) no Pelourinho. Ele começou a tocar com latas, baldes e garrafas recicladas e, com a ajuda de turistas, mais tarde comprou instrumentos de couro para a banda. Aos 17 anos, ele fez sua primeira viagem internacional a Londres com uma delegação de artistas para participar e se apresentar no festival South Bank Centre.
A Banda Meninos da Rocinha do Pelô é uma banda de 40 percussionistas liderados por três "maestrinos" e um "maestrina", Elem da Silva, criador do grupo e estrela do documentário "Maestrina da Favela".

Día 1. Acto de apertura del Fair Saturday Forum 2022
El pasado 2 de mayo, con motivo del lanzamiento de esta nueva edición del Fair Saturday Forum, se celebró de manera presencial el Acto de Apertura en la Sala BBK (Bilbao) dónde se presentó el panel oficial de ponentes de este año junto con las organizaciones impulsoras y la participación de varias organizaciones participantes. Únete a Anabell Ramírez (actriz), Alex Borovensky (director artístico) y Antonio Garrigues Walker en una conversación al rededor de la compañía ucraniana ProEnglish Theatre, el único teatro de habla inglesa en Ucrania. Además de su labor educativa, el teatro dirigido por Alex Borovensky se ha convertido en referente durante las últimas semanas, en las que han resistido a la guerra con Rusia a través del arte.
Esta jornada de apertura incluyó el estreno internacional de “The Book of Sirens”, obra de teatro creada y estrenada en refugios antiaéreos de Kiev, que se representó a cargo de esta compañía. Day 28. Pivoting an in-person festival online and retaining its sense of community

Whilst HippFest can't wait to welcome audiences back into the warm embrace of the Hippodrome cinema, if this year has taught us anything, it's that one of the oldest mediums of moving image, silent cinema, can pivot successfully into the digital age and that there is a real appetite amongst our audiences for a hybrid life and virtual event going forward."

Day 20. Supporting the arts in U.S. communities
“It'll be interesting to see how patterns of giving in the arts in the future change over time and whether it will change over time in the US, since that formed so much of the US support system for the arts very well. One thing that we've started to hear is other countries […] asking to learn more about our philanthropic model, because, of course, in other countries where they've had budget cuts from a centralized arts support system, they've had to look to ways to stimulate donations and to cultivate that. And of course, we have a tax code that helps us in this case to incentivize charitable donations to the arts.”
