In this episode of The Journey Podcast, I had the pleasure of being joined by David McGrath who kindly came on to shed light on his journey, on the road to recovery from not only a financially expensive disease but an emotionally and psychologically draining one - drug addiction. David talks about growing up with mental health issues and not knowing how to deal with them which led to him searching for an escape. David’s escapology was drugs and a combination of peer pressure and no real understanding of how to cope with his mental health, leading him on a path towards his dark days. A hot subject we discussed is about how Ireland criminalizes drug addiction and the negative affect this has on mental health which contrasts to other countries who have adopted a more reasonable, appropriate method to tackle drug addiction. Like anyone on a journey, David has had many setbacks along the way. He gives a great insight on his experience of overcoming his adversities along the way. His admirable honesty on such stigmatised topics is truly amazing! He hopes to raise awareness for anyone that may be in that same place that he once was and if this helps one person who is struggling with addiction then that’s a job done. Darren is best known for his role in the American TV Series Vikings. In this episode of The Journey Podcast, Darren shed light on his journey to becoming an actor. Darren went from going to study finance in college while working in retail to pursuing a career in acting at the ripe age of 23. Darren discussed his early acting career whereby he studied alongside the Irish Film Academy and landed a role in the hit Irish TV series ‘Red Rock’. That in which kickstarted his career. Although Darren's acting career has been deemed exceptional to date, still, he highlights the groggy details of the darker side of acting and the mental strength required to overcome rejection. It's not all glamour and rainbows as you will hear Darren’s experiences beneath the iceberg. Darren's journey has certainly opened my eyes and gave me a deep insight into the world of an actor and the acting world overall. While he delves into his journey with a focal point on his career in acting, there are also some very relatable experiences to help anybody overcome adversities.
If you know Will, you know that he is an absolute gent! A humble dude, with an abundance of life experiences.
In this episode of the Journey Podcast, Will gives a detailed insight into a myriad of topics ranging from his early life and travel experiences, to backpacking on the front line of Iraq! That in which made a lot of noise in the news (if you didn’t know already).
Further to that, we discussed the young entrepreneur and optimists’ business ventures and of course his very successful and globally recognized business, Bingo Loco. Will talks about himself going from not knowing what to do in life to ultimately finding his passion! Even more, he highlights the steps and obstacles he endured along the way, in his overall Journey.
