It’s not so common to meet CEOs who have built a bold vision for their companies and didn’t stop until they achieve it. Most leaders don’t have either the courage or the persistence to go beyond the drift and make a significant impact. They prefer to play safe and go for more predictable outcomes. Not Dr. Doron Myersdorf, co-founder of StoreDot. StoreDot’s Mission is to use nanoscale metalloids and proprietary compounds and develop ultra-fast-charging (XFC) battery technology that overcomes major barriers to EV adoption: range and charging concerns. In this episode, Doron shared his passion, dedication, and persistence to achieve his bold vision to revolutionize the electric automotive industry. We discuss:
The importance of external culture to build successful businesses
The inception of an idea
The courage to persevere despite the general pessimism
How to beat Tesla
The challenges of being a CEO

Only 20% of CEOs are able of driving change in their organizations. According to the latest CEO study from Egon Zehnder, a poor alignment between the CEO and the leadership team is one of the main reasons. You can have a great purpose, the best vision, and a wonderful strategy but if your team is not aligned, everyone is gonna go in different directions. Leaders will build competing priorities and won’t share the same macro objectives. As I do a lot of work with team alignment at a leadership level, in this episode I share some red flags as well as some solutions that might help you to deal with this problem. It’s no shock to anyone that starting up a business comes with a lot of challenges, setbacks, and disappointments. People who are driven by the money that can come with success often forget that it takes more than just a good product. It’s understanding your market and understanding people. The people you surround yourself with as part of your team, and the customer. For episode 058 of ‘The World Class Leaders Show’, I invited Eric Rubenstein, Founder and Managing Partner of New Climate Ventures. Since its launch in October 2021, NCV has made several investments that cover areas involving climate tech, alternative materials, and food tech – as well as other emissions-avoiding technologies. Before founding NCV, Eric held positions leading venture investing activities for commodities as well as leading fundamental strategy for oil, refined products, natural gas liquids, plastics, and recycled plastics. By listening to this podcast episode, you will learn more about:
What are the best attributes of a Founder/CEO
The importance of self-awareness to grow your company
Why diversifying sectors is critical to success

Social isolation. Lack of feedback. Fear of making bad decisions. These are typical challenges that first-time CEOs experience. This is not ideal for leading an organization through the current level of uncertainty. However, these feelings are normal, so the key is not to hide them. It’s to acknowledge them and learn how to see things from a different lens. In this episode, I share 8 key pieces of advice for making a smooth transition to a new CEO role which are also applicable to everyone who has a new leadership role in their organization. In the ‘old’ Western European world, internal business leaders were typically viewed as the top of the organizational hierarchy pyramid — the ones who ‘knew it all’ and made the decisions accordingly. Today’s business wisdom turns the prevailing structure upside down, with customers sitting at the top of the pyramid; for true organizational success, this is where all business decisions should stem from. For episode # 56 of my podcast the World Class Leaders Show, I was honored to host a good friend from Germany, Hans-Martin Hellebrand. Hans-Martin is the co-CEO of Badenova, a regional utility company committed to driving energy transition in Southwest Germany. Before joining Badenova, Hans-Martin was managing director of the digital energy retailer eprimo. From 2015 – 2017, he founded and led an innovation center in Silicon Valley, as well as scaling a tech start-up as COO/CFO. Hans-Martin has studied at internal institutions such as Stanford and Kellogg-Northwestern, and he was awarded “IT Executive 2016” by CIO Magazine. By listening to this podcast episode, you will learn more about:
Lessons Hans-Martin took from his time in Silicon Valley
Four steps to establishing customer-centricity
What it’s like managing a business with a Co-CEO
Supporting Change, and what most people get wrong about CEOs

What’s the fine balance of leadership? It’s the perfect equilibrium that great leaders find when they manage their teams. It’s the trade-off between pushing too much and overcontrolling their work and being too distant and often unavailable when teams need it. In this episode, I’ll share:
The expected consequences of being too pushy
The expected consequences of being too distant
A proven multistep approach to finding the right equilibrium

All successful CEOs possess several critical skills and attributes. Chief among them is the ability to build a diverse team that complements the CEO’s capabilities and expertise and provides both support and challenge as needed. While many organizations promote and publicize their ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) efforts, still there exist significant gaps between concepts and execution. This is especially true for the Social and Governance dimensions. Environmental initiatives are generally maturing. However, the Social aspect is receiving preliminary, and sometimes misguided, attention, and the Governance aspect is often no more than a few paragraphs in the annual report. Why is this so, and how can performance be improved? For Episode # 52 of my podcast, The World Class Leaders Show, I was honored to host Miriam González Durántez. Miriam is an international trade lawyer who currently leads the trade and EU regulation practice of US law firm, Cohen & Gresser, and is a founding partner of Altius. Her extensive legal experience includes advising clients on intricate EU regulatory, compliance, and trade matters, and Miriam serves on several influential boards and advisory committees. Miriam is the Founder and Chair of Inspiring Girls International, a global charity dedicated to raising the aspirations of young girls around the world by connecting schoolgirls and women role models. The campaign operates in nearly 30 countries across the globe and has led the highly praised global campaign #ThisLittleGirlIsMe. By listening to this podcast episode, you will hear:
Perspectives on each dimension of Environmental, Social & Governance initiatives
Aspects and requirements for monetization of ESG efforts
Five key factors for making a global impact.

49,600 M&A deals failed last year. Here's the logic: According to Pwc, we hit a new record of M&A deals globally in 2021: 62,000. But according to many experts, the average failure rate is 80%. If this is true, it’s too easy to fail. But it's never about strategy, commercial, or finance alone. It's also about people. In this episode, I invited Branka Dessens, Post M&A Advisor, and together we discussed:
Why and how to assess culture before making any deal
The importance of choosing the right level of integration
The typical mistakes of the execution phase

Over the past two years, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant acceleration of a set of trends impacting how we work. Many organizations dealing with these forced changes simply took the approach to ‘retrofit’ their office-bound existing habits and practices to accommodate remote working. However, some companies have gone further by rethinking and redesigning core operating principles such as onboarding, innovation, or creativity to re-engineer the business for greater flexibility. For episode # 48 of the World Class Leaders Show podcast, I’m very happy to bring you a fascinating conversation I had on LinkedIn with Brian Elliott, the executive leader of Future Forum. Brian has an amazing track record of leading teams and building companies, as a CEO of several start-up firms, a product leader at Google, and a senior vice president at Slack. Brian’s new book “How the Future Works; Leading Flexible Teams to Do the Best Work of their Lives” was co-authored with Sheela Subramanian and Helen Kupp. By listening to this podcast episode, you will learn more about Brian Elliot’s experiences at Slack and with the Future Forum. Brian shares the learning:
What type of work flexibility is most important?
The impact on talent — building competitive advantage through work model redesign.
Steps to take in defining the rules of the game – one size does not fit all.
Potential pitfalls to be aware of, and how to move the process forward, with guidelines and examples for team agreements.

Driving innovation is one of the main priorities of every leader. Yet, it’s not so easy doing it in a very competitive market or in a conservative industry. One of the most effective ways to build an innovative company is to build a corporate venture arm. That’s, for example, what Shell did back in 1998. For episode 046 of “The World Class Leaders Show”, I invited Andrea Course, Venture Principal of Shell Ventures, to share her experience with innovation, startups, founders, and CEOs. In this episode, you’ll learn:
How to choose the right companies to invest in
The power of diversity in the startup world
What makes great founders and CEOs
The best way to support the startups after the investment
How to deploy new technologies in a large and established company

Company culture is not a toy that you can “fix”. Yet, how many times have you heard leaders asking their managers to fix people's behaviors? I remember when that happened to me as a manager earlier in my career. I was asked by the CEO to fix the culture but soon after, I realized that I didn’t have the support I was expecting. In this episode, I discuss:
the problem with changing internal perception
the impact of lack of sponsorship from the top
the challenge with delegating the entire process to one person

It’s harder today to keep motivation strong and sustained, due partly to the decrease in organized and structured work environments. Many people are encountering a negative impact on their ability to reach their own goals, given higher levels of distraction. Setting a goal, and leveraging intrinsic motivation
Monitoring progress, and the importance of sub-goals
Setting priorities and managing multiple goals simultaneously
The importance of social support

Change doesn’t happen if you don’t understand first why people resist. I’ve seen too many great change initiatives fail just because leaders struggle to understand the causes of resistance and its effect on the implementation. They often underestimate its impact until they realize it when it’s too late. The good news is that resistance can be fought if you know what causes it. In this episode, I share my experience of overcoming resistance by bringing some case studies of my work with organizations during major change or transformation initiatives. In particular: - Why you should embrace resistance - The key reasons why people resist - The best strategies to turn resistance into commitment I look forward to hearing your thoughts or reading your comments about this episode at: Email: andrea@andreapetrone.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreapetrone/ Want to get a score on your leadership level? Over the past few years, there’s been a noticeable shift in how leadership is defined and realized. Leaders who have previously relied on an authoritarian ‘command and control’ style are learning that a fear-based approach is no longer acceptable in today’s organizational culture. Instead, research and collected data indicate that high performance is achieved when a leader brings authenticity and integrity to the table, and fosters genuine connection with their team and their organization. For episode # 40 of my podcast, the World Class Leaders Show, I was honored to host Dr. Michelle Johnston, who holds the Gaston Chair of Business at Loyola University in New Orleans. An executive coach with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Johnston is a celebrated keynote speaker, presenting at conferences and events nationwide. She received her Ph.D in Communication from Louisiana State University, and she was named to the prestigious 100 Coaches group. Dr. Johnston is the author of the best-selling book, “The Seismic Shift in Leadership”. Particularly for leaders aiming for C-Suite roles, having meaningful and mindful relationships with their teams will amplify inspiration and motivation, build collaboration, and, ultimately, catalyze better performance across their organization. By listening to this episode, you will learn about:
The ‘Mask of Perfection’ – the danger in adopting an inauthentic professional persona.
Owning your story to fuel accelerated performance.
The importance of building and showing empathy in the ‘Zoom Age’.

Although PE-backed company CEOs and other CEOs share the same role, a PE-backed CEO is tasked with unique challenges. Many of them accept the role but come underprepared for what lies ahead. I have been recently invited to share my thoughts about the subject on the “The Private Equity Podcast”, where I have been interviewed by Alex Rawlings. Here is what I shared:
The common mistakes made by Private Equity Firms
How to assess the current leadership team
Two best skills of CEOs
The leadership challenges of acquisitions
How PEs can help CEOs and their teams
The three best attributes of successful CEOs
My suggested books for CEOs

The biggest mistake leaders do when they merge is hardly strategy or financials. It’s underestimating the people's side of the transaction. New teams don’t often work well together if they feel there is a cultural misalignment between the two organizations. As a result, they can't get rid of their past. In today’s podcast, I share key lessons I learned from working with leaders and their teams during and after their M&As: - Why culture matters during the due diligence - The importance of building a new team identity - How to drive engagement across companies Share your thoughts or comments at: andrea@andreapetrone.com or send a message on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreapetrone/ Want to get a score on your leadership level? Success can be learned and duplicated by emulating the mindsets of High Achievers. There are numerous factors to consistently achieving outstanding performance. This includes components such as a clear understanding of motivational drivers, a dedication to life-long learning, and more. Successful high achievers are defined as people who have created a paradigm shift in the way we look at things, process things, or think about things. They effectively move their field forward and are recognized for their contributions. As they are ascending in their career, they bring other people along with them who share in their team’s success. “A light on someone else doesn’t dim your light, it actually makes it shine brighter” - Dr. Robert Lefkowitz, Nobel Prize winner. During Episode # 35 of my podcast, The World Class Leaders Show, I interviewed Dr. Ruth Gotian, who has researched the most successful people of our generation, including Nobel laureates, astronauts, CEOs and Olympic champions, in order to learn about their habits and practices. Dr Gotian is the Chief Learning Officer and Assistant Professor of Education in Anesthesiology and former Assistant Dean of Mentoring and Executive Director of the Mentoring Academy at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Gotian publishes and presents on a wide range of topics pertaining to leadership development and optimizing success. She is the author of The Success Factor – Developing the Mindset and Skillset for Peak Performance. By listening to Podcast Episode # 35, you will learn about:

As a senior executive looking to move into the C-Suite, do you have an in-depth knowledge of the factors that might go into the making of that promotion decision? Alternatively, as a leader in your organization, are you building the strongest possible team by leveraging all the talent you have available to you? In all organizations, it’s essential that an objective framework for promotion review and decision-making is in place. C-Suite candidates must be crystal clear on the expectations and criteria of the Board and other arbiters who may influence the final outcome. For Episode # 33 of my podcast series, The World Class Leaders Show, it was my great pleasure to host Amii Barnard-Bahn. Recognised by Forbes as one of the top coaches for legal and compliance executives, Amii is a member of Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches and a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Coaching. A guest lecturer at Stanford and UC Berkeley, Amii is also a contributor to Harvard Business Review, Fast Company and more. Amii received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Centre and her BA from Tufts. During the podcast, Amii and I discussed the importance of promotion events for the health of an organization. A promotion is a discrete employment moment that can be flagged for special attention, to ensure that decisions are made fairly and in a way that strengthens the team and the overall leadership structure. By listening to this episode, you will learn more about:
Five critical criteria for judging promotability
Diversity and equity challenges and how to combat proximity bias
Ideas for providing clear feedback and expectations for building influence and promotability.

One of the key characteristics of an organization that emphasizes innovation is a relentless focus on looking beyond the obvious. A ‘road-mapping’ pause for the study of root causes will help to deliver a solution that will go beyond the short term. Organizations should undertake an assessment on the desired impact: “What impact do you want to achieve once this problem is solved? What would be the impact if it is not solved?” During my recent podcast episode # 27 of The World Class Leaders Show, I very much enjoyed my discussions with Dr. Abdul Samad (Sami) Kazi. Professor Dr. Kazi is the Research Team Leader for Smart Cities and Intelligent Buildings at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services that enhance its customers’ competitiveness. Sami is a prolific author/co-author, with more than 100 books and publications on a wide range of innovation topics. He is a recipient of the prestigious FIATECH 2012 STAR Award and a fellow of the Entovation E100 Global Knowledge Leadership network. Sami was kind enough to share his experience, with step-by-step instructions for fostering and encouraging collaborative innovation across organizations — especially when time is in short supply. During the podcast episode, you will learn:
How to develop the right skills for innovation
Tactics for building an innovation framework
Fostering collaborative brainstorming
How to be innovative despite the workload

The Power of Clarity, with Ann Latham Increasing clarity in communication is one of the most-needed improvements that a leader can make. When a CEO or senior executive makes a vague request, and his team does not ask clarifying questions, it can lead to misaligned expectations and unfortunate consequences. On my World Class Leaders Show podcast, I recently hosted Ann Latham, founder of the U.S. based consulting organization, Uncommon Clarity. Ann is the author of several highly-regarded books, including her most recent, “The Power of Clarity.” Ann is an in-demand speaker and guest lecturer, whose global clients range across 40 different industries. In this podcast episode, we discuss why clarity is missing in the current business environment, and what leaders can do to develop their skills further. Listening to this episode will offer the following highlights:
Effective ways of dealing with an overloaded to-do list.
What is the most important question to ask during a business interaction?
Five key steps leaders can take to improve clarity

We’re seeing an increasing level of disengagement at work. Once again. Not surprisingly, many team leaders are noticing:
Less participation in staff meetings
Bad mood and negative thoughts across their teams
Less motivation
Poor response to team activities that were working fine before
It’s clear that something changed in the last month and it’s inevitably the consequence of the new restrictions due to Omicron. But there must be more under the surface. If employees feel fatigued and lack of energy already at the beginning of a new year, something else is going on. I believe Omicron has just resurfaced existing problems that were temporarily put aside. If you want to re-engage your employees, I recommend going back to basics and introducing some more creative ideas. In this episode, we discuss:
Why organizing more online team meetings won’t help your people to re-engage
What are the most effective ways to re-engage with tired employees
The five steps you need to take to get your team engagement back
Do you need help in re-engaging with your team or want to discuss more about this topic? Drop me a message at andrea@andreapetrone.com. Developing a strong sense of ownership will create the highest level of commitment to producing results and not just to complete a task. It is important to note that you cannot be effective if you do not have the drive. You can use this drive to make a difference and start creating a mentality that is results-driven. The best way to achieve this is through taking ownership and avoiding similar problems in the future. “Taking responsibility for your work is a given – taking responsibility for an outcome is great leadership.” In this episode, Andrea shares with the audience some practical strategies on:
The difference between responsibility and ownership & why they are important
Why does having a strong sense of ownership will invite successful results
