Today I am taking a spin through the CJP archive and resharing a conversation I had with Ramon Owen, otherwise none as REO, very early on in my pod journey. It was actually my second episode released ever!
REO is an artist across many different mediums. He’s a music producer, a photographer, a digital artist, he’s designing rugs, he’s a dancer - his artistry seriously has no bounds.
It was a bit surreal for me to re-edit this episode because back when we recorded it in 2022, I never would have thought I’d be able to relate to some of REO’s life experiences as much as I can now. I wanted to re-release it because unless you’ve been with Creative Juicy since the beginning, you probably haven’t heard it and REO’s perspective on self expression and art as healing and creating with intention I think is a really important one.
So I hope you enjoy it! This is REO for Creative Juicy!

Bec Mapes is an artist, designer, entrepreneur, and business mentor who has spent the last decade leading and growing sustainability-minded companies.
Today’s episode is a little different than most, because while I often have founders on to discuss their businesses, including what led to starting them, the challenges they faced along the way, how they think about brand and marketing and production, today Bec shares a realization she had after 3 years of building her own hair care line, that she is not the right founder for the brand she had built. I applaud Bec for her vulnerability and transparency in this conversation, and think it’s really important for other founders or creatives facing rejection to hear from someone who has gone through it and is still transitioning into her next phase of work.
We talk about fundraising and what Bec wishes she had known about it, the one thing she would have approached differently from an early age if she could press do-over, making mistakes, and how to change course and move on.
Here is Bec Mapes for Creative Juicy!

Margot Lee is an entrepreneur and digital content creator who started posting to her YouTube channel 13 YEARS ago !! More recently, Margot founded No Particular Order, which is an undated, minimal, prompted journal which is designed to be used (you guessed it!) in no particular order.
Not to spoil how this conversation unfolds, but you’ll find that Margot uses the word ‘lucky’ a few times in our chat, for example she says she was ‘lucky to have her hobby turn into her full time job’ but I think it’s pretty apparent that luck has very little to do with Margot’s success. She is not only strategic about how she shows up online but she also does so in a really genuine way.
On today’s episode we talk about Margot’s early days on YouTube, her journey in journaling and how a series she launched on TikTok in 2020 has evolved into what is No Particular Order today, what it’s like to manufacture a product and build a business where Margot Lee is the founder and for once, not the face, and how she’s approaching partnerships and IRL events in a really interesting way for her brand. We also get into fun things like why the YouTube discovery process is so much more involved than other social platforms, how Margot thinks about bucketing her content and the role that plays in her day-to-day, and also just how she’s approaching life and work at this stage of her journey.
I respect Margot so much and I’m really excited for you to hear our chat. Enjoy!

Olivia Villanti is the founder of Chava Studio, a Mexico City-based atelier that creates made-to-measure shirting specifically designed with women in mind - an idea that is not so common.
I love this episode for a few reasons:
There are so many other things that I find fascinating in this conversation, like how Olivia started this business in partnership with her in-law’s 30-year old family run fabric and shirting studio, how she organically fell in love with shirting and solving this problem after a move from New York to Mexico City, what Olivia considers the true test of a good quality fabric, and what you can expect from an appointment at Chava and with Olivia herself.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!

Megan O'Sullivan is a New York City-based writer and co-founder of Byline which, if you haven’t heard, is a new media destination for discovering unique voices. Megan’s words can be found in a range of major publications like The New York Times, T-Magazine, Vogue, i-D, GQ, and of course Byline.
On today’s episode we chat about the art of outreach, which coming from Megan is super valuable because she not only pitches editors at these major outlets but she also sits as the editor of Byline, so she knows what it’s like to be on either end of this dynamic. We also talk about what it can look like to consciously uncouple from a job, how Megan and Byline co-founder, Gutes, divide and conquer in bringing an issue to life, and what generosity has meant to Megan and her career.

Today, I share my conversation with Cristina Suarez Krumsick, the founder and CEO behind integrated marketing agency, Isetta.
If you haven’t heard of Isetta you’ve most certainly seen their work, as they have an incredible portfolio of CPG clients which include Ghia, OMSOM, Sanzo, Madre Mezcal, and so many more.
What I loved most about this conversation with Cristina was simply learning about her thoughtful and strategic approach to the world of PR and marketing. It sounds simple when Cristina describes why she doesn’t label Isetta as a PR firm or the number one thing she looks for when interviewing for new talent - but I can tell you from personal experience, it’s really not so common.
Cristina shares numerous insightful tidbits in this episode, from how she employs this 5-word technique to positioning for her clients, how she gets people to answer her emails, the biggest red flag she hears on new business calls, and how she approaches the organization of her team as a form of matchmaking.
I loved learning about Cristina’s publishing career, and how working in the world of print shaped her and her perspective to working as a publicist. It’s just all so good, and I hope you enjoy.

Anna B. Albury is a multidisciplinary designer and co-founder of coolstuff.nyc, a design-forward weekly newsletter & website that features, you guessed it, COOL STUFF. But I almost feel like ‘cool stuff’ doesn’t do it enough justice. If you live in New York or Brooklyn, you have to go subscribe to the newsletter, which Anna co-founded with her husband Garret pre-pandemic.
In their Friday send you’ll find everything you need to know before heading into the weekend, from the newest restaurants popping up around town, community or brand events you can go to, they have this section of the newsletter called ‘cool friends’ where they highlight artisans and makers living in New York. I love it for discovery of the city I live in, but honestly it’s great even if you don’t live in New York - be sure to listen to find out why!
I really enjoyed learning about how Anna and Garret curate the newsletter, and also how Anna curates her life! She works full time as a Rug Designer and also does her own interior styling work on the site.
Enjoy!

Today I share a conversation I had with Candice Sophia Antoine, someone who, like many other guests I’ve had on this podcast, I first came across on Instagram.
Candice is French, American, and Haitian, and after spending her early years in a small town in the south of France, she moved with her parents to Miami and then by herself to New York City. I think this conversation is especially great for my younger listeners, people who are either in college or recently graduated and are simply just figuring it out as you embark on your journey in the work force.
I was so impressed by the grace Candice gives herself as she makes moves throughout her career on her path to learning what fits her and helps her to create the lifestyle she wants to live. She isn’t afraid to tell potential clients no when the opportunity doesn’t feel right to her, and I think that’s also one of the reason’s she’s amassed a following on social. The way she’s curated not only her Instagram feed, but also her life and the people and products she cherishes in it, are beautiful to see and, with this conversation, now wonderful to hear about.
I hope you enjoy this convo as much as I did!

Today I sit down with Erika Veurink. Erika is a writer for publications like Vogue and The Cut and for herself, with her Substack, Long Live. She’s also the matchmaker mastermind behind EV Salon, an event series designed to be, as Erika puts it, an IRL Intro Email. One that feels warm, and personal and unlike the stale and awkward events we’ve all experienced before.
There are PLENTY of amazing tidbits from Erika in this episode, whether you’re an aspiring writer or not. Erika gives a play by play breakdown of how to go after that byline of your dreams, how she honed her craft as part of her MFA (Masters in Fine Arts) in non-fiction writing, and what it’s actually like being a writer and getting paid (and not) for your work.
This recording was the first time I met Erika face to face, and I’m sure you’ll be able to tell, I liked her a lot! I think I giggled more in this recording than I have in any other Creative Juicy podcast. She is smart and hilarious and I loved getting her take on life as a writer and someone who juggles so many different creative outlets simultaneously. So excuse the ramble at the end, but I just wanted to make sure I learned everything I could from Erika who is a pro when it comes to curation - in life, in wardrobe, and career. All of it.
Enjoy it! xx

Kelsey is the founder and designer behind Brooklyn-based fine jewelry brand, Abel Objects, which she launched just last year after taking the leap of faith that is from being a freelancer to going full time.
After attending the Rhode Island School of Design, Kelsey established a career in graphic design and art direction — working for clients such as The New York Times, Flamingo, Man Repeller, Condé Nast, and the startup Haus — all while making jewelry on the side. After helping build so many brands over the years, in 2023 she decided to go all in on her own company.
On today’s episode, Kelsey and I talk about her time at RISD and how the curriculum influenced how she approaches design, her formative startup experience that changed how she views business and the kind of work she wants to pursue, and also how it's going running Abel today!
Talking to Kelsey felt like talking to long time friend, even though we just met for the first time on this podcast call. So I hope you enjoy this convo as much as I did! x M

It's fitting for this episode to be released on Valentine's Day because one of my favorite people, Maggie Sause, is on the podcast today! As I look back on my career, there is a short list of people who I am so grateful to have shared a 9-5 with because I have A) learned a ton from them and also B) completely adored them on a personal level, and Maggie is certainly at the top of that list.
Maggie is Head of Marketing at Red Antler, which is probably the most well known and esteemed agency for brands out there. Red Antler partners with businesses at all stages from prelaunch to growth and established brands, but you may have heard of them, like I first did, from their brand work with the likes of AllBirds or Casper. Or maybe you’ve seen their ‘Designed to be deleted’ campaign they dreamed up for Hinge or perhaps the book Obsessed which Red Antler's co-founder, Emily Heyward, published in 2020. If you’re at all interested in what beloved brand is and how to create one, I highly recommend reading it!
Maggie and I talk about brand worlds - what they are and how to build them, what it means to dimensionalize your audience, how to create value beyond just your product, platform, or experience you’re selling, why the marketing funnel is way more complex than it used to be, and what Maggie considers to be the 3 most important aspects of a brand today. If you’re building a brand yourself or perhaps want to understand more of what it takes to make it at an agency or maybe you just love CPG, this is the episode for you.
OK, enjoy!
I’m doing something a little different with the podcast today - a quick mini episode of just me since I’ve alluded to, but haven’t shared exactly what went on last year when I had a pretty big hiatus from the podcast, and from my life quite frankly. So here goes..
The episodes I reference are:

I really enjoyed learning about what Anna loves so much about working in vintage retail, (it isn’t what you would suspect!), and her vision for Club Vintage being THE department store destination for all things vintage shopping.

When I came across Goods Gang circa 2015, I remember feeling like I had just been witness to a breath of fresh air for the wedding industry - not an easy feat! Katrina’s designs are elegant, clean, yet playful with a bit of edge. Truly, they are one of a kind and also communicate the personality of the couples so beautifully.
On today’s episode we talk about how Katrina’s work in tech, specifically working in systems for Microsoft, helped pave the way for the systems she utilizes in her business today, the turning point she experienced when she decided to make her side hustle a full time gig, and why creating something tangible is so important to her.

In this episode, we discuss how Molly’s imaginative childhood shaped her love for art and nature from an early age, the role Instagram played in the growth of her business, what it’s like at the NY flower market before sunrise, and how she approaches client work across a range of projects including fashion shows, editorial, home deliveries, and weddings. On today's episode, Kate tells us about her path from graphic designer to entrepreneur, the relationship she's built with the Wit & Delight community, her 'big beef' with social media, the importance of home hygiene, and how it is acting as both the content AND the person in the world of Wit & Delight.

Martin is a Swedish-born, Brooklyn-based photographer who thrives on the thrill of embarking on unknown creative journeys. His book, Suburbia Gone Wild, surrounds the search for identity among the new middle class in the world's emerging economies, and the studio he founded, InsaneLittleProjects, further explores ways of utilizing machine learning and photography to enable curiosity and creative thinking.
On today's episode, Martin shares his perspective on the way in which European countries support the arts and promote work that is more experimental and less commercial, the impetus and evolution of his anti-social media app, minutiae, which aims to help users document the in-between moments of life that one usually finds too ordinary to be worthy of documentation, among other thought-provoking topics.
I loved hearing Martin's perspective as an artist who has worked in both Europe and the States and the benefits of not limiting yourself to one particular medium. I especially can't wait to hear updates regarding the evolution of minutiae which he shared at the very end of the episode. Enjoy!

My first childhood friend on the pod! Meet John, one of the two co-founders of Montagave Tequila which he built with his wife, Lucie. What first started out as a creative way to symbolize their two cultures coming together in celebration of their wedding, quickly turned into a project neither John nor Lucie could shake. Ruvi Leider is a producer, writer, director and photographer with a focus on narrative, commercial and live-stream production. Ruvi produces everything from social content, multi-camera live stream, feature films, interactive digital installations and TV commercials for national and international broadcast.
On today's episode, Ruvi shares how he got his start by responding to a craigslist listing, the role of producer and what that can entail for any given project, how he stays calm and collected in stressful situations, and some notable pinch-me moments as he looks back on the last 5 years.
I loved chatting with Ruvi about his upbringing in the industry and also about some of his more recent accomplishments, which include his feature producing debut with Balloon Animal, the launch of his very own production company, and the development of his feature film, FREI, which is a coming of age story about Chassidic teens loosely based on his own experience.

Kathryn Shah is the co-founder and CEO of Spring & Mulberry, a new food meets wellness brand comprised of date-sweetened chocolate bars that are topped with beauty & fantastic for you ingredients, from mango Urfa chili to lavender bee pollen, all with 0g added sugar.
The inspiration for the brand is a really personal one. A trip to Dubai on the way to meet her husband's family in India opened Kathryn's eyes to the beauty & pleasure of dates and dried fruits, no longer relegated to the bulk bins of American grocery. Fast forward a few years later and a cancer diagnosis in her early thirties caused Kathryn to quit refined sugar and explore the healing power of food. With nothing to satisfy her sweet tooth, she started experimenting with the dates, nuts, and cacaos that are now foundational to the product line.
On today's episode, Kathryn talks about the path that led her to test-cooking recipes in her kitchen, how to woo emotionally and sell rationally, the importance of finding a co-founder that compliments your skill set, along with a plethora of helpful tips she's learned along her journey to bringing Spring & Mulberry into the world. This is my first founder episode, and I am so happy to share it with you today. Enjoy!

As the oldest of 8 kids, Rebecca always had to find her own way, which helped navigating educational and career choices throughout her life. From a masters in American History to then landing a job in fashion and starting her blog, Raspberry & Rouge, when she used Instagram purely as an editing tool, Rebecca's career as a content creator has evolved with the ever-changing social media landscape. Today, we talk about her shyness and how she finds the courage to pose in front of the camera, her discomfort with the title 'influencer,' the balance between living publicly and privately, and the vision and strategy behind starting her creative agency, LAPISCINE.
Rebecca is a pure pleasure to speak with, and her words about how to put yourself out there to get what you want in life I found truly inspiring. Enjoy!

Molly Dickson is a fashion photographer, collage motion artist, and director reimagining 2D art from a multimedia approach. Her work spans commercial work for clients such as Benefit Cosmetics, Bergdorf Goodman, Bumble, and The Yes, alongside personal projects like her latest NFT collection, Computer Cowgirls, of which Molly is donating all proceeds to Fund Texas Choice, a non-profit organization that pays for Texans’ travel to abortion clinics. I originally found Molly's work on Instagram circa Spring 2017 and instantly admired how she married the nostalgic feeling of collages with modern tech that makes each of her pieces feel entirely new.
On today's episode we talk about Molly's journey as a photographer from assisting to signing with an agent, how Web3 is energizing Molly's perspective, the importance of women in the crypto community, and all the details that go into launching and maintaining an NFT project from creating the smart contract, to gas fees, and cultivating community.

Brent David Freaney is an artist working in digital media and conceptual sculpture. I first worked with Brent to build websites for Veuve Clicquot Champagne, and he soon became one of my favorite partners and people to work with. Since 2011 he has created, designed, and developed a body of work committed to fueling subculture across the digital landscape both through his studio, Special-Offer, and his personal practice, where projects are animated by a desire to generate new exploratory and critical frameworks. Approaching identity systems as malleable structures, Freaney works within the confines afforded by the internet to reshape the possibilities of unbounded digital space.
On this week’s episode, Brent and I discuss how he found community on the internet at a young age, imposter syndrome and his will to problem solve, his mindset in establishing company culture, and how he’s scaled the Special Offer team from one to 11 in such a short amount of time.
I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did!
