“If I’m a religion teacher and that’s where kids are finding God, then shouldn’t we be meeting them where they are?” Upon the publication of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si´ in 2015, Katie Collins had an answer. In particular, she was struck by the final chapter on ecological education and knew that the themes of ecology and theology needed to be incorporated into religion classrooms. This event sought to bring attention to the disturbing and disgraceful attempts by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to shut down Annunciation House for allegedly unlawful activity, which he has renewed in an appeal to the Texas Supreme Court in July 2024.
