Hi! I am Sofia, an italian teen girl with ADHD. I am here to talk with you about lifestyle, self development and the life in high school. I am excited to open sensitive conversations through honesty, some fun stories and my take-always from them. Hopefully we’ll explore new interesting ideas. No-filter conversations here we come... are you ready?
In pace finalmente.
Fino a quando non ho visto il trend di tik tok con la canzone di Kanye, we made it to thanksgiving maybe we can make it to christmas…
Tanto amore, Sofi.
this is one of my most philosophical episodes and i am surprised it’s the last one of this english season. However lately I’ve been wondering what does it mean to be a good person? And what does it mean if I believe i’m a good person? Which brought me to consider it from a subjective va objective perspective. Also when talking about me believing i’m “good” I started getting into loving yourself and understanding how you might be a good person who’s not perfect and does selfish and “bad” things sometimes, but you should still believe in yourself and be confident in who you are. It’s not like most of my episodes but I love it because of that. Lots of love, Sofi.
I don’t remember dreaming of a “high school sweethearts” relationships. I think it’s because as soon as I was close to hit the right age for it I knew I wasn’t dying to date a man at all. As I was growing so much, my relationship with men changed a lot as well, starting to be sexualized , often without my consent, played a huge role in how I relate to guys. It also played a role into my journey with my sexuality which definitely was a journey. As well as making “not being flirtatious” part of my personality, on building an independence where I feel so happy and complete without dating someone. That resulted in me having extremely high standards, on trusting myself on weather connections are worth pursuing, for myself as much as for others, and only seeking that RARE connection that I know, I’ve seen with my friends too, IS worth it. A mix of all these factors, plus my personal experience with crushing and being crushed on is why I haven’t dated in high school and realistically probably won’t. So let’s dog into it!! Enjoy.
There’s a lot of internal as well as external conflict that comes from being raised in a 1st gen immigrant household, a parent that made all kinds of sacrifices to give me the best chances possible at being successful, an international family that prides itself for relatives moving away. And understating what I want, what I’m passionate about, what I picture as my future and what mental steps I need to take to figure it all out. I also convinced myself that I wasn’t meant to be average at a young age, since the beginning of middle school, starting with my Ivy League obsession. Seeing my future differently than the people around me has been a very isolating experience, but dealing with that as well as starting to desire similar goals as they’ve always had it’s scary and hard. This whole process, of figuring your life and future out at 18 is scary and hard. So I’ll share my experience with it, hopefully it will make someone feel a bit less alone in it.
Everyone has a “sense of responsibility” who or what they feel responsible for what happens in their life, a very common example is God. Thanking god for good things that happen to you implies he was in some way responsible for that happening. That is called an external locus of control, believing that what happens to you is up to an external entity. What I “have” is the exact opposite, I have a very strong internal locus of control, I feel fully responsible for pretty much everything that happens to me, for the results I gets, for how people treat me, for what and how many friends I have and so on… That was a hard balance for me to find, what is actually my fault and how much is up to others. In this episode we’ll explore that and so much more. Mainly how an internal locus of control, as proven by psychology, has incredibly impacted my life, in a positive way. It’s a mindset and as so, something one can learn, but why would you? Well, let me explain it to you! Having more drive and feeling more successful are just a few examples, i’ll go into how it put me in some difficult positions and how I got out of those. Have a great day, and enjoy.
I guess this could be considered a bit of a controversial topic, inspired by emma chamberlain’s episode for maybe the first time I disagree with her on a topic. I’ve always had loads of friends throughout my life, my first really close friend was a boy. However I am the biggest fan of female friendships. I have experienced first hand the deep connection two women can have and it’s just so special and different from anything else, it’s a completely different level of understanding, support, sensitivity than other kinds of bonds. While male attention has always played a role in some way, in this episode i’ll explore how women, especially those who are genuine, can create a bond outside of the male perspective and I truly believe that’s one of the most wonderful things we can experience. Talking to such great, almost natural, listeners, being taken care of by people with a natural mother instinct is so nice. Conflict is handled differently but I’d say in some cases even better than with men. I talk about the true support and love that can come out of this bonds, and why my friendships with my girl-friends will always be the most sacred to me. Tune in and enjoy, I hope you have a wonderful day.
While as that bitch I want to have the perfect life and perfect routine always, life doesn’t always allow it. Sometimes we can’t have the structure we aim for and I’m starting to learn that it’s ok, and why it is. When life gets chaotic and routine is thrown out the window what do we do? Should we try to keep building some structure? My answer is complicated, but in short? No. And I’ll explain why, and how I stopped feeling guilty and stressed when life gets chaotic. We need to be ok with change and transitions in order to live life to its full potential, cause there are always gonna be transitions taking place, in this episode I’ll talk about how I learned to be ok with change. Peace of mind first. Life happens when you least expect it, and sometimes the chaos is simply worth it. Hope y’all enjoy. Peace and love, Sof❤️
I guess this is a little bit of a weird episode. Growing up there were mainly two kinds of little girls, the ones who had a new crush every week and the ones who were never interested in men, or pretended not to be. Many girls in the second category turned out to be fruity in my experience, so did I. But yeah, that kind of had always been my thing, I never like anyone and I never ever wanted a relationship. The searching for that male validation, the desire for something that didn’t depend on me was so incredibly scary I always stayed out of it. For a lot of time I was well aware that I needed to grow on my own, and I never really saw the end of it, I could never imagine a point where I’d be like, honestly I think I want a relationship now cause I’m ready for it. But here we are! In this episode we discuss my newfound desire. It is so crazy to me, definitely something new to get used to. It’s hard to find the balance between wanting a relationship and not wanting too bad, or like becoming obsessed with the search, I am gonna be honest, I am still trying to find it. I talk about just trusting the universe and trying to let go (that always came difficult to me ahahah) But yeah, that’s all! It’s some trip of an episode, enjoy everyone. Lots of love, Sofi.
this entire episode is dedicated to me lmao. I decided to dedicate this to my vision of my future. This entire podcast is my diary in a way, so it’s fair for it to be a personal dump. I talk about Kanye, parts of songs (for example, when got bigger plans, that no one else understands, you’ve got a shot) I envision my life like few people do, first of all I definitely envision greatness, it kind of goes against what society created as stereotypical. My life is going to be a mixture of changes and new adventures, no 30 years long desk career. I explain why it doesn’t take luck and so much dedication you can’t do anything else to succeed. l talk about multiple careers, bucket list, people, children even retirement. It gets pretty detailed and yet a lot remains up to chance. This podcast episode is one I’ve made entirely for me, maybe for the first time. Which I now understand is fine and still interesting. Love you so much, Sofi.
2 settimane fa ho compiuto 18 anni.
Come sentirci simpatici e amati dagli altri.
I am extremely excited to share this with the world, for the first time since I’ve started this podcast I wasn’t the only one talking! In this episode I was joined by a really good friend of mine, Nick. We share a lot in common, from doing really well in school, to having an international mindset to aiming for top colleges, even biologically, as both twice exceptional kids (adhd and high iq) we’re wired similiary. We decided to shed some light on the reality of an untypical overachiever high school student. What does it mean to be a twice exceptional kid, breaking out of the normal path. We get into the college admission process as someone who worked to get into top colleges , the extreme pressure, mental and physical consequences that come from it, and especially what you gain and lose, from it. Is it worth it? We discussed this and more in this extremely interesting conversation, to the. share it with all of you. Tune in it to hear about it. Hope you enjoy; Love, Sofia (and Nicholas).
let’s talk about the supernatural world! Not all of it sadly, for now let’s concentrate on witchcraft, crystals, tarot’s, law of attraction, and most of all psychic abilities! Such a fascinating topic, in this episode we’ll explore my experience with parapsychology, what I believe in and how I explored this supernatural connections, especially as someone who is incredibly logic and reason oriented, preferring facts and science over everything. Still, I still like to explore all kinds of worlds, so this is my take on exploring the magic one.
as the daughter of an interracial marriage, black dad and white mom, that was always normalized for me. I am also a mixed/black girl living in all predominantly white spaces and my experiences in cringe has been heavily influenced by my race so I started wondering why. I also moved to America from Italy, which is when I truly realized the impact that your race can have on who you date. as someone who is quite attracted by asian guys, why is is it that I have virtually no chance with them? Why is it that only black guys have approached me? Why is it that it’s almost always black guy/white girl and not the opposite? In this episode I’ll explore my experiences and my responses to those questions. In a way my journey with race.
The beginning (end ending) of a year is always marked by new years resolution, planning and partying. In this episode I’ll go through my personal rituals to prepare for the new year, the many essential steps I do, and how I do my best to make sure I’ll have a good year, to start fresh and be at my best. It’s a process but there are many tips and tricks that can be incredibly useful. I hope you’ll tune in and let’s talk resolutions, and just positivity ✨💗 Happy New Year!! Lots of love, Sofi.
After dealing with practical codependency for a very long time, having to deal with a new problem, different then anything I’ve ever experienced, took me a while to understand how it was still codependency. A different kind, an emotional one, the kind that has an impact on the meaning of life and on my state of wellness. I had a somewhat traumatic culture shock which was the depth of emotional bonds, friendships, in Italy and how it is comparable to relationships here. The depth that friendships gets to here is in most cases not even comparable to the strong bond of a friendship in Italy. I guess I realized how much me, variable X, depend on Variable Y, the people I love, the relationships in my life (this theory I read on a good friend’s essay). I hated my life without variable Y, which made me question if my life is purely dependent on Y. If I could ever live a good life without it, bending all laws of mathematics.
trying to tackle this complex and endless topic, talking about the difference between growing time and simply time passing by, how it is one of my biggest fears. And on the other hand how excited I am about the future and all the things it might bring. Adulthood, friends turning 18, and the conflicting reality of being mature and becoming more and more responsible while still being a kid and remaining childish. Hope you’ll tune in and enjoy another talk w me, I love you, Sofi.
you can be the kindest, most empathic, loving person out there’s yet get hurt again and again by other people. By your friends, your partners or even family. So why is that? I’ll make an assumption and say it’s probably because you haven’t set boundaries, and secondly you’re not self reliant and you’re not practicing detachment. Now all of those you can improve in and learn, you have the power to change this situation, the power to be happy and not get hurt as much, and the beautiful thing is that you can do so all on your own. In this episode I’ll explain how step by step, beginning with an introduction to the problem and some of its many nuaces, to then explain what you are missing, what you need to implement, and lastly I go through how exactly to do that, not in theory, but in actual practice. I think this is going to be such a useful episode for all of you amazing souls out there, I love you and enjoy ✨
culture shock, but so much more. I come from a country that’s almost completely white and then out of the blue moved to the us, country of diversity. As a mixed teenage girl that completely changed the perception I hold of myself. I now look back on how others view me has changed, how i view myself, what I learned and experience (ex: how real and beneficial pretty privilege is) And lastly what that says about the us as a society, especially racially wise, main thing having different types of beauty standards. My first experiences with boys being interested in me based on how i look and people complimenting me everyday. So many reflections and a lot of contrast between my two countries. Hope you’ll enjoy.
Today we’re talking about the way that women are generally valued in proportion to their usefulness to men. Not as their own beings, with their own dreams and expectations, but only in regards to men is destabilizing. I wanted to open a conversation about how these perception is placed on women and approach how the male gaze is portrait in media (there’s gonna be an entire episode on male vs female gaze). The “pick me” phenomenom, the comparison that’s inherently present and thought to women, but let’s go beyond these concept that we have to take from someone’s beauty in order for me to validate my attractiveness. Trying to distance myself from what the world has always put on me.
I feel like while a lot of people, and i mean teenagers, do dream of labor, of having a dream job. But that is heavily influenced, more subconscious then I’d like, by this capitalistic society and the mindset we are thought by it. I end up asking myself what happens when you’re biggest fear is working that american dream, 9 to 5 life? I can tell you how scary it gets. In this episode we discuss this culture that pushes us towards dreaming of labor and what other option I feel like are available. On top of this we’ll discuss that we might not even feel ‘the calling’ for any type of traditional work.
A lot frustration born from the daily impact of the patriarchy on the women mind and life in general. The reality of being a black girl in this modern society. Intersectionality, being a minority and wanting to scream. Actually understanding some of the ways that capitalism and patriarchy shape/direct us. Being scared.
Life is fucking hard. Since we were kids we were thought that our self worth has to stem from something physically tangible, it might be grades, it might be productivity, it might be appearance. Still we end up learning this behavior and subconsciously self doubt ourselves through that. This is how I became aware that my definition of my own self worth was fucked up. That all that happened to me as a child still effected me and that it’s important to face the way we act, and we think. Some affirmations at the end as well honey
Dear Sara, Ario, Arianna, Matteo, Francesca, Vittoria. Dear my other friends, dear the people that hurt me, dear the highlight reel that instagram is, dear myself, both past, present, and future. ‘You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with’ Thank you for being in my life, and inspiring me. (una parte è in italiano)
being an extrovert is amazing, but sometimes you end up depending on others for your well being and for your happiness, comparing social lives and losing yourself. Feeling lonely so easily and not enjoying the time you spend by your own self. That was me, and Covid-19 really made me face all of this, so this is how I grew from it and how I’m continuing to love and learn. Hope you enjoy.
Trying to balance school, friends, extracurricular activities, family, our mental health, it’s not easy at all. That’s why most high school students are in a cycle of bad habits, anxiety and a lot of stress. Ruining our days, and having three mental break down a week.
