Hi, my name is Steve Barker and I host the RAW Leadership Podcast. The purpose of the RAW Leadership Podcast is to help inspire young, emerging Leaders to step into their potential. The RAW Leadership Podcast will also serve the more experienced Leaders with insights, hints, tips and hacks. Leadership is all about people and this is why the RAW Leadership Podcast is about the "Human Skills" or as they are often referred too... the soft skills of Leadership. Having served 26 years in the Royal Air Force all over the world I have a vast array of experiences and skills in "People". I lived in cultures for years on end and had to observe and learn how to communicate and influence effectively with those around me. I will interview Business Leading experts and we will dive into their experiences and lessons so we can all learn from them. The RAW Leadership Podcast is here to support you to become the very Best Leader you can be.
Our Leadership influences and impacts others...
That influence and impact ripples out through those other people and in turn then influences and impacts those people around them, and then those people impact and influence those around them.
Just like throwing a stone into a very still pond of water... our Leadership impact does not just send out 1 ripple, it sends out many and they in turn cause further ripples.
This episode of the RAW Leadership Podcast has been sitting and brewing within me for a long period of time, and I have often started to record it, and then stopped. Today I have decided that I want to share with you what I am seeing and experiencing.
Our Leadership will impact the future of our families, our communities and way beyond. We may not think it does, but it does.

3 STEP PROCESS TO CONFLICT RESOLUTIONSo many of us struggle with how to deal with Conflict in our teams, in our families and in other areas of our lives.
I wanted to share part of the Conflict Resolution module that I use in my Leadership Coaching programs and with my clients so that you can have a strategy that will give you a framework to build a conversation around.
This recording actually comes from the audio of a video that I have recorded and I wanted to repurpose the video into a Podcast. It is full of hints, tips and insights into Human Behaviour that will help you to remove the stress, anxiety and fear that is often around dealing with these situations.

One of the "buzz" phrases bouncing around Leadership circles at the moment is Productivity Paranoia, which is basically the fear of our teams not doing the work, particularly when they are working remotely.

Who wants to be ordinary?

Workplace Culture is one of the main elements that either determine the success or failure of a team.
It is vital, particularly now, in this time of turbulence, that we create a positive workplace culture and maintain it.
In this Podcast I share with you my experiences and thoughts about who is responsible for the Workplace Culture, who is responsible for maintaining it and who is responsible for it's development and growth.
Based around my 20+ years of Leadership experience both in the Military and Civil Sectors, I have had to create, develop and maintain workplace cultures in 100's of teams. Even more, the team dynamic has been made up of many different cultures, backgrounds and nationalities.

Servant Leadership is "a leadership style is based on the idea that leaders prioritize serving the greater good. Leaders with this style serve their team and organization first. They don’t prioritize their own objectives"
After the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I have been reflecting on her Leadership style and have realised what a great example of Servant Leadership the Queen set.
In this RAW Leadership Podcast, I would like to pay my respects to the Queens service, dedication and sacrifice by sharing 7 quotes that she said and explore them in a way that we can find examples of how, we as Leaders, can implement them into our Leadership principles.
The Queen was my boss and I swore and oath and allegiance to her, she declared that she would" for the whole of her life... be devoted to your service" ... and she did serve the remainder of her days in the service of her people, of her country and of the world.
The Queen was a source of inspiration for me personally and it is only after her passing that I have realised, just how much of an inspiration she has been in my own Leadership style and principles.

WTF!!! Leading with Love - are you mad?
That was one of the reactions that I have had when I suggested to someone that they bring more Love in to their Leadership.
Leading with Love is one of the most powerful ways that we can Lead within our teams and our worlds.
Some people think that there is no place for Love in Leadership and that it is a sign of weakness, that it is "wishy-washy" and too "mushy"

Recruitment and Retention are very hot topics right now within Leadership.
Certainly in Rural NSW there is a massive shortage of people available to fill positions and even more, the problem of retention is even bigger.
Why?
Because businesses are screaming out for new employees as they grow and expand after Covid and employees are now hand picking where they want to work and will think nothing of trying on an employer for 3 to 6 months and choosing if they want to stay or not.
Never has it been more critical to ensure that the people you are hiring are a good fit for your business and workplace culture, because if they are, they will be a great fit for the business.... but more importantly, the business will be a great fit for them and they will feel like they belong, and that is so important.
If you are not recruiting to your workplace culture, then you are doing it wrong and you will struggle to retain employees.

There is so much uncertainty around right now.
Australia is moving closer to this 80% vaccinated benchmark, which will trigger the start of "living with Covid" Understandably, this is causing heaps of uncertainty and in some cases a lot of anxiety and worry.
Now, I am not here to answer the questions about what the new normal will look like....
But what I can provide is some insights into Uncertainty and how we can embrace it.
Because, when we Embrace Uncertainty things change.

To kick start the RAW Leadership Podcast, I could think of no better way than sharing with you an interview I did with Warrant Officer (WO) Ken Robertson OAM.
WO Robertson was awarded the OAM for meritorious performance of duty on operations as the Command Warrant Officer of Joint Task Force 633, while deployed to the Middle East Region during the period January 2017 to January 2018.
Warrant Officer Robertson provided outstanding support and advice to his commander during a period of significant operational tempo.
He motivated people to higher performance and outcomes; he masterfully applied his experience and judgement in refining processes and enforcing policies while attaining harmony across a diverse force.
His leadership was inspirational across the deployed joint force, he achieved complete trust at all levels, directly influencing command decisions and contributed to the successful conduct of operations across the Middle East Region.
I had the honour of serving with Ken during my exchange tour to Australia in 2012 and I am proud to call him my friend.
In this interview Ken shares some insights around his personal Leadership journey and some of the things that have enabled him to become an outstanding Leader who is still serving his country.
