What I learnt while recording this song:
- Gear Matters : I got a new mic and I could immediately hear the difference. Previously I was recording on a dynamic microphone (Shure SM58). This new one is a condenser (Lewitt 440). Zameen aasmaan difference in terms of what I could hear. Now I can better understand my voice and work on the weaker bits. Also, in the spirit of gear appreciation, my Macbook pro 16 inch deserves all the love. Sometimes I don't realize that it is because of the power it gives that I can make stuff fast. Sometimes I have the Logic Pro project as well as Final Cut Pro running together and I have no issues.
- Simple is better : I wanted to put so many more elements in the song. And it can probably take it. Then I heard the song on its bare bones with just the Ukulele and it sounded great the way it was. This song has just 4 elements - Ukulele, Music Box , Snaps+Claps and Vocals.
- Same was the case for the video. I was trying to make something complicated with green screens and maskings. Then while testing the setup I realised I don't have the equipment to execute it how I imagined. I was frustrated at first since it was Saturday morning and song had to go out. I had no video concept. Some deep breathing and calming of the mind and this simple idea came to me which you see in the video. It took me 45 mins to record, edit, export the video!

Oh! to be young again.
Irada is my original song about finding the teenage love feeling again when you are much older.
I wrote this song around this time last year. My son was obsessed with Legos at that time. And he has 4 of his other friends obsessed as well.
Together they had acquired quite and arsenal of Lego figures and were constantly playing with them.
When I wrote this song, I wanted to make a very interesting video and was searching for a concept.
Then my wife suggested to put all the screaming children in the house to work and make a video using the Legos!
What an idea!!π‘
We got to work immediately!
My son and his friends made elaborate set pieces according to the story I came up with for the song.
We shot using my iPhone 12.

The lockdown had us (my wife and I) reminiscing about our initial days of infatuation.
The bubbly feeling in the stomach, the flirting, the overthinking about what the other is thinking. β€οΈπ₯°π
The song "New Love" is not about any of that.
It's just something I wrote. π

Brooding Night - An Instrumental
The night brings external peace and quiet.
But it also brings out internal chaos
As the night progresses, the outer world rests
And as the mind broods, the demons rise
The reflection in the moonlit water shows you, your true self
A tale of internal struggle which is all too common.
I composed and recorded this during a not-so-good phase in my life.
