What if sports are the key to everything?
No matter where you are in the world, you can find people playing, watching, and talking about sports. In fact, if ever there were a universal language, sports would be it. But what if it’s even more than that? What if the experiences we have winning, losing, or even just watching the game…are the keys to well, just about everything?
Welcome to Sports Will Save Us All, I’m your host Sasha Graham. I am an athlete and author, and through a lifetime of loving sports, I’ve come to understand the special role that they play in so many of our lives.
This podcast will explore the value and magic of sports in all its forms, and take a look at the things that make sports such an incredible and unifying part of our lives.
We’ll go deep athletes, fans, coaches and spectators to bring you passionate opinions, life experiences, and athletic anecdotes. From underdog stories to championship seasons, we’ll raise some questions, find some answers, kick the ball around, and have a whole lot of fun. So join me on our playing field, and let’s have a ball…because Sports Will Save Us All.
Follow us now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
Sports Fam, today we’re saddling up for a conversation about the incredible bond between humans and horses. For centuries, horses have carried us—literally and emotionally—and science now confirms what many of us have always felt: these powerful, peaceful animals can change lives.
That’s the mission at Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship, an Arizona nonprofit that has been offering life-changing programs for children and adults with disabilities since 1983—all at no cost to participants. Camelot believes you can’t put a price on human dignity, and their raise-money-first, spend-it-second philosophy has kept them debt-free for over four decades.
Each year, Camelot hosts Starry Knights, a fundraising gala under the desert sky, spotlighting the inspiring stories of two students. This year, those students are with us in the studio: Heidi Miller and Phil Simpson.
Join us as we talk about the transformative power of horses, the joy of riding, and the incredible community built at Camelot.
Sports Fam, you can learn more about Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship online at www.CamelotAZ.org and on Facebook @CamelotAZ

What does it take to defy gravity—literally and figuratively? This week on Sports Will Save Us All, host Sasha Graham sits down with Michael Glen, known around the world as The Rolling Pilot, to explore that question from 2,000 feet in the air.
Michael became the world's first paraplegic licensed hot air balloon pilot after a life-altering car accident in 1996 left him paralyzed from the waist down. Told he couldn’t, he spent 10 years proving he could—and in 2006, he did just that. Since then, he’s flown around the globe, inspired others to follow in his path, and completely reimagined what accessibility looks like in the skies.
Michael’s story is one of bold action, creative problem-solving, and deep love for a sport that few truly understand. This isn’t just a story about ballooning. It’s a story about charting your own course—and bringing joy to people everywhere.

In this episode of Sports Will Save Us All, host Sasha Graham talks with Gregg Baumgarten, a trailblazer in adaptive sports whose work has opened doors for athletes with physical disabilities across Arizona and the nation.
Gregg began his journey in the 1980s as an Adaptive PE teacher, where he saw firsthand the lack of opportunities for his students to compete in sports. Refusing to accept that reality, he founded what would become Arizona Disabled Sports, co-founded the Desert Challenge Games, and played a key role in organizing the first National Power Soccer Tournament.
Over his 34-year career in public education, Gregg has served as a coach, administrator, and national leader on the boards of Disabled Sports USA and Adaptive Sports USA — now known as Move United. His dedication has helped shape a more inclusive and competitive athletic landscape for generations of athletes.

In 2023, elite cyclist Jeff Seckendorf came on the show to share his quest to break the national velodrome hour record in the 70-74 age group. His goal was set, his training dialed, his eye was on the prize. But as so often happens in sports, and in life, deep into training he came to a staggering realization that lead to a massive pivot that you have to hear to believe.
If you’re interested in learning more about Jeff’s original goal, listen to his first visit to the show in an episode that was re-released on August 10, 2025.

Today's episode originally dropped in December of 2023 and we are releasing it again now for a very exciting reason. When Jeff Seckendorf and Sasha orignally spoke, he was training for an attempt at breaking the national velodrome hour record in the 70-74 age group. At the time, Jeff promised to come back after his attempt to share how it went, and he did! We will release our follow-up episode with Jeff tomorrow, but wanted to give you the chance to revisit the original episode before Jeff's triumphant return to the show tomorrow. Enjoy!
Jeff Seckendorf doesn’t seem to have met a lot of sports where he didn’t excel. His experiences range from land (ice climbing) to sea (scuba diving) to air (aerobatic flying) and have culminated in his current passion, the velodrome, where he rides his fixed gear, brake-less bike really, really fast. Jeff currently holds the hour record at the San Diego Velodrome and is now training for an attempt at breaking the national hour record in the 70-74 age group in 2025. In this episode he explains the appeal of this brutal race, how he stays motivated day in and day out, and how to find the fun in the every day.
If you’re interested in learning more about Jeff you can find him online at jeffreyseckendorf.com and his Institute of Purpose is at InstituteOfPurpose.org.

Sports Fam, today’s episode is a special one—and not just because we’re dropping it early on Monday, June 23. This date marks the 53rd anniversary of Title IX, the landmark federal law that reshaped the future of women’s sports in America. To celebrate, we're spotlighting someone who’s living out the legacy of that legislation every day in Phoenix.
We’re thrilled to welcome Audrey Corley to the show—a former college basketball player and coach, and now the co-owner of Title 9 Sports Grill, the very first women-focused sports bar in the Phoenix area. Alongside her business partner Kat Moore, Audrey is creating space for women’s sports to not just exist—but thrive.
We talk hoops, friendship, the power of representation, and why every city deserves a Title 9 of its own. Trust me, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.
Happy Title IX Day, Sports Fam. Let’s honor it right.

In this episode of Sports Will Save Us All, Sasha and Steve fire up the time machine and head back to 1999 to tackle the sweaty, emotionally confused, and gloriously over-the-top football flick Varsity Blues.
With whipped cream bikinis, emotionally repressed quarterbacks, and a coach who should probably be in prison, Varsity Blues is the teen sports drama we didn't know we needed—until now. Sasha and Steve break down the film's iconic moments, cringe-worthy life lessons, and the kind of small-town football fever that makes grown men cry into their Bud Light.
They dig into the real MVP of the movie—sex-ed teacher turned stripper Miss Davis—and examine what the film got right (team spirit! teen angst!) and what it got hilariously, awkwardly wrong. Expect sharp takes on toxic authority figures, generational drama, and the enduring power of a good pep rally.
Is it a cinematic touchdown or just a fumble wrapped in nostalgia? Tune in to find out, and bring your varsity jacket.

In one of Sasha's favorite interviews to date, Kaitlyn Verfuerth is in the studio and the energy is through the roof! As a 4-time Paralympian in two different sports, Kaitlyn takes athletic versatility to another level and tackles tough questions on the show like, should we consider people with disabilities 'an inspiration' and, is there a better term than 'able-bodied' for people who are not disabled?
Kaitlyn competed in wheelchair tennis at the 2004, 2008, and 2016 Paralympic Games, before transitioning to paracanoe after the 2016 Games, a transition that led her back to the Paralympics in an entirely new sport in 2020.
But really, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it come's to Kaitlyn's awesomeness. She is a natural athlete, teacher, coach and mentor and a long-time advocate for inclusion in outdoor spaces. She currently serves as the 360outdoors manager and athletics coordinator at Ability360 here in Arizona, where she organizes various adaptive mountain biking adventures and outdoor activities for individuals with disabilities.

If you're feeling a little lost about what exactly happened last night, or just want to be able to hold your own at the water cooler, Sasha is here to break down everything from the commercials, to the half-time show, to the final score. Girls Flag Football is experiencing an explosive rise in popularity across the United States. According to a recent article in the Sports Business Journal, in just five short years, it’s gone from a niche sport to a powerhouse, earning a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics and becoming a fully sanctioned sport in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (can the NCAA be far behind?). High school participation has skyrocketed—42,955 girls competed in the 2023-24 season alone, a mind-blowing 105% increase from the previous year. And across the country, nearly half a million girls aged 6 to 17 are now playing flag football. The numbers don’t lie: this is just the beginning. To break it all down, Sasha is joined in studio by Whitney Warmus, a rising star in the Arizona sports scene, to talk about her exciting new role as the General Manager of the Cactus Cup League—a brand-new league in Arizona dedicated to middle and high school girls' flag football. The league is bringing a whole new level of competition, with a combine, draft, and all the excitement you’d expect from a professional sports league.

This week on Sports Will Save Us All, Sasha is talking to the extraordinary Dr. David Bruton Jr, former NFL safety and Super Bowl 50 champion with the Denver Broncos. In 2014, he set a national squat record in Canada and won his division at the Powerlifting World Championships. Buckle up, Sports Fam, because this movie was bananas!
In 2021 the world watched ESPN in horror as perennial prep powerhouse, IMG Academy, absolutely decimated an unknown opponent from Ohio called Bishop Sycamore High School. By halftime the Internet was going bonkers and the game kicked off an investigation into Roy Johnson, the architect behind a scam so audacious that even Bomani Jones seems gobsmacked.

This episode is a collaboration between Sports Will Save Us All and “T-Time with Tori Totlis”, the number one women’s golf podcast in the world.
Tori and Sasha sat down with Dr. Bobbi Lancaster, a transgender woman who competed as a professional golfer after her transition from male to female at age 60. Bobbi was the first transgender athlete to compete in the LPGA’s Q-School and she was instrumental in changing the Cactus Tour’s female-at-birth gender policy.
Bobbi has been such a force for change in the golf world and had been such a vocal supporter of other transgender athletes, that she astounded the golf world just a few days before we were scheduled to sit down with her when she was quoted in GolfWeek as saying, “I don’t think it’s fair to have transgender women like me competing against cisgender women in women’s sports. Period, end of story.”
Bobbi had always held nuanced views of transgender women competing against cisgender women, but this felt like a major shift and we wanted to understand what had caused it and why she felt that way.
I have divided our conversation with Bobbi into 3 episodes that will all drop this week, this is Part 3 of 3.
Please note: This interview contains discussions about sex, genitalia, depression, and suicide.

Steve & Sasha are back for another episode of Sports Will Save Us All’s SPORTS ON SCREEN with AIR, directed by Ben Affleck and starring Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, and, of course, Ben Affleck as Nike head, Phil Knight.
Decked out in what Sasha calls “a rainbow of beige,” Nike Executive Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) relentlessly pursues an up-and-coming Michael Jordan (whose face we never see) to become the face of Nike’s fledgling basketball division. Really. That’s basically the whole movie.
So, did Jordan sign with Nike? Did Jordan’s greatness ever pan out? You’ll have to watch the movie to see. Just kidding, we all know how this one turns out. But is the movie any good? Steve is on fire this week and Sasha went deep into behind-the-scenes trivia to make this the best SPORTS ON SCREEN episode yet.

Jeff currently holds the hour record at the San Diego Velodrome and is now training for an attempt at breaking the national hour record in the 70-74 age group in 2025.
