In Part 2 of our honest conversation on fasting, we're opening Scripture to answer some of Christianity's most common questions about prayer and fasting.

Together we explore:

• Does fasting give your prayers more authority?
• Why are fasting and prayer connected in Scripture?
• Did Jesus command Christians to fast?
• Does fasting produce spiritual power?
• What about unanswered prayers?
• Could a digital fast be just as important today as fasting from food?

Rather than treating fasting as a formula for getting God to move, we discover that fasting is a gift that helps us slow down, surrender, and become more attentive to God's voice.

If you've ever wondered whether your fast "worked," struggled with unanswered prayers, or wanted a more biblical understanding of fasting, this conversation is for you.

If this helped you rethink Christian fasting and prayer in a healthier, more honest way, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it.

Rest is not just a nap. Rest is a Person’s presence with you. We open with a prayer that asks God to quiet your spirit and soul and anchor you in a steady truth: you are deeply loved and securely held, even before you do anything to “deserve” it.

We then center on Exodus 33:14, where the Lord speaks a promise that still hits hard today: “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” If you’ve been searching for a Christian devotional on sleep, peace at night, relief from anxious thoughts, or a simple Bible-based way to reconnect with God, this message is designed to meet you right where you are.

Does fasting make your prayers more powerful? Will God answer if you fast longer? What if you can't fast from food?

In Part 1 of this conversation on Prayer Unfiltered, Elizabeth and Kimberly explore what the Bible actually teaches about Christian fasting.

Rather than presenting another religious formula, they discuss how fasting is designed to create space for a deeper relationship with God—not manipulate Him into answering our prayers.

In this episode you'll discover:

• What biblical fasting really is
• Does fasting make God answer prayer?
• Can you fast from something besides food?
• What Isaiah 58 teaches about the heart behind fasting
• Why fasting isn't a spiritual performance
• How fasting reveals what has our attention

Whether you've fasted for years or have never considered it before, this conversation will help you approach fasting as an invitation into intimacy with God instead of another spiritual obligation.

Scriptures Discussed:

  • Joel 2:12-13
  • Matthew 6:16-18
  • Isaiah 58:6-12
  • John 3:30
  • Psalm 35:13
  • Psalm 141:3

Do you have to say "In Jesus' name" at the end of every prayer? What happens if you forget? Does God still hear you?

In this episode, Elizabeth and Kimberly explore one of the most common questions Christians ask about prayer. Together they unpack what Jesus actually taught about praying in His name, why the phrase matters, and why prayer has never been about finding the perfect words.

You'll discover:

  • What it really means to pray in Jesus' name
  • Does every prayer have to end with those exact words?
  • Is "in Jesus' name" a biblical command or church tradition?
  • Why prayer is about relationship—not ritual
  • What John 14, John 15, Hebrews 4, Ephesians 2, and 1 John 5 teach about prayer
  • How the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work together in our prayer life
  • Why God's response is never based on getting the formula right

If you've ever wondered whether you prayed correctly or worried that you "did it wrong," this conversation offers biblical encouragement and reminds us that our confidence is found in Jesus—not in perfect wording.

We open with a blessing that asks God to quiet your spirit and anchor you in a steady truth: you are deeply loved and securely held. From there we move straight into a revival prayer rooted in Psalm 85:6, “Will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in you?” and we let that Scripture shape our hunger for real spiritual renewal.

We ask God to break down separations, draw God seekers together, and build us into a living church centered on the Father’s heart, the holiness of the Savior, and the promise of the Holy Spirit. What do we do when we keep praying and the answer still has not come? Do we keep asking, seeking, and knocking — or do we surrender?

In this episode of Prayer Unfiltered, Kimberly Roddy and Elizabeth Powell have an honest conversation about unanswered prayer, persistent prayer, surrender, and trusting God when His timing or answer does not look like what we hoped for.

This conversation is for anyone who has prayed for a long time and wondered if God hears, if He cares, or if surrender means giving up. Together, Kimberly and Elizabeth remind us that prayer is not about wearing God down. It is about staying near to the Father, asking without striving, and surrendering without despair.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • What Jesus meant by asking, seeking, and knocking
  • Why persistent prayer is not about badgering God
  • The difference between surrender and despair
  • How to pray without ceasing without spiraling into anxiety
  • What to do when God’s answer is no, not yet, or not on this side of eternity
  • How God meets us with His presence, grace, and nearness in unanswered places

If you are weary in prayer, grieving an unanswered request, or learning how to trust God in the middle of the story, this episode is for you.

What if the thing you’re missing with God isn’t effort, but closeness? We guide you through a short, Scripture-soaked devotional that reopens the door to intimacy with God, the kind that feels like hearing His footsteps in the garden and realizing you’re not alone.

We lean into Psalm 25:14 where the Lord confides in those who fear Him, then echo Genesis 3:8 with its tender picture of God walking near in the cool of the day. When worship becomes a project, intimacy collapses. So we practice releasing the pressure, dropping the agenda, and making room for Spirit-led communion that is simple, honest, and deeply satisfying.

In this episode of The Father’s Business Podcast, Kimberly and Elizabeth continue their conversation on declaration prayers, blessing, healing, and the power of our words.

Together, they wrestle honestly with passages like “speak to the mountain,” “declare a thing,” and “bind and loose,” asking how these Scriptures should be understood in context. This conversation is not about praying small or doubting God’s power. It is about learning how to pray boldly while staying submitted to God’s authority, God’s timing, and God’s will.

What did Jesus mean when He said to speak to the mountain—and are we using those words the way He intended? And what about binding and loosing, declaring a thing, and praying with authority… are we missing something?

Kimberly and Elizabeth also dive deeper into the powerful—and often misunderstood—topic of declaration prayers. To bring clarity, balance, and truth, they unpack key Scriptures like:

✔️ Mark 11

✔️ Job 22

✔️ Matthew 16

✔️ Matthew 18

✔️ Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane

This isn’t about shrinking your prayers or doubting God’s power. It’s about learning how to pray boldly without stepping outside of God’s authority. Kimberly and Elizabeth explore what it really means to declare who God is, bless what we’re entrusting to Him, and release the pressure of controlling outcomes.

If you have ever felt confused, pressured, or even hurt by prayers that declared a specific outcome over your life, this episode offers clarity, compassion, and a biblical framework for discernment. You can pray with faith, bless with authority, and still trust God with the outcome.

Have you ever had someone pray for you with good intentions, but the words they used left you feeling more burdened than comforted?

In this episode of Prayer Unfiltered, Elizabeth and Kimberly talk about declaration prayers, healing, blessing, and the power of the words we speak over others. This conversation came from real questions listeners have been asking about whether it is biblical, and wise, to declare specific outcomes when praying for someone else.

This episode is not anti-prayer, anti-faith, or anti-healing. We believe deeply in the power of prayer, the authority of Jesus’ name, and the goodness of God. But we also believe that words matter, especially when someone is vulnerable, sick, grieving, or walking through a difficult season.

Elizabeth and Kimberly explore the difference between declaring truth and decreeing an outcome. We can boldly declare who God is, who we are in Christ, and what Scripture says is true. But we also want to be careful not to place pressure on someone to carry a promise God may not have spoken in that moment.

We cover topics, such as:

✔️ Declaration prayers and biblical truth

✔️ Healing prayer and spiritual authority

✔️ Why words can bless or burden

✔️ The difference between declaring truth and decreeing outcomes

✔️ How to pray for someone who is hurting

✔️ The power of blessing the human spirit

✔️ Trusting God when healing does not come the way we expected

You’ll also hear more about why The Father’s Business often uses the language of blessing: inviting the spirit, soul, and body to receive everything Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have, while still trusting God with the outcome.

Listen in as Elizabeth and Kimberly offer a thoughtful, pastoral, and biblically grounded conversation for anyone who has wrestled with prayer, healing, suffering, and the words we use when we come alongside others. We also hope this episode gives you language, wisdom, and courage to pray boldly while loving tenderly.

In Part 2 of our conversation on spiritual warfare and submitted authority, Elizabeth Powell explores what it truly means to walk in the authority Jesus has given believers.

Do Christians have the same authority as Christ? What does the Bible teach about resisting the enemy? Is there a difference between holy boldness and spiritual presumption?

Using Scripture from Luke 10, James 4, Ephesians 6, Acts 19, Jude 9, Matthew 8, and more, Elizabeth unpacks a powerful truth: authority in the Kingdom of God is strongest when it is rooted in submission to Jesus.

In this episode, you'll discover:

✔️ What "submitted authority" really means
✔️ Why Jesus modeled perfect dependence on the Father
✔️ The difference between authority and arrogance
✔️ Lessons from the Centurion, the Sons of Sceva, and Herod
✔️ How to recognize spiritual presumption
✔️ Practical prayer language for spiritual warfare
✔️ Why believers should pray to the fullness of their authority—but not beyond it
✔️ How to stand firm without fear, pride, or spiritual swagger

If you've ever wondered how to engage in spiritual warfare biblically, how to pray with confidence, or how to stay aligned with God's authority, this episode will encourage and equip you.

One of our listeners recently sent in a thoughtful question after listening to our podcast discussion of the Jude 9 and “the Lord rebuke you.”

Building from a listener's thoughtful question, Elizabeth explores what Scripture actually teaches about authority in Christ, delegated authority, deliverance, humility, and the importance of remaining submitted to Jesus during spiritual battles.

Together, we'll examine:

  • Jude 9 and Michael the Archangel's confrontation with Satan
  • The difference between Christ's authority and our authority in Him
  • Luke 10 and Jesus giving authority over the power of the enemy
  • Spiritual warfare, deliverance, and biblical discernment
  • Why humility and submission are essential in spiritual warfare

This episode is a reminder that our confidence is never found in our own power, but in the victory, authority, and finished work of Jesus Christ.

This conversation isn't about fear or passivity.

It's about understanding our identity in Christ while remaining fully submitted to His authority.

If you've ever wrestled with questions about deliverance, spiritual warfare, authority in Christ, or how believers should pray when facing spiritual opposition, I believe this episode will encourage and challenge you. Listen now!

What does it really mean to say God is our provider?

In this episode, Kimberly and Elizabeth continue their conversation on the character of God by focusing on provision. Together, they talk honestly about the tension so many of us feel: we know God can provide, but we still wonder how, when, and if He really will.

Looking at the story of Abraham and Isaac, along with Scriptures like Matthew 6 and Philippians 4:19, this conversation explores what it means to trust God as Jehovah Jireh—the Lord who provides. They also unpack the difference between our needs, wants, expectations, and desires, and why God’s provision doesn’t always look the way we hoped it would.

More than anything, this episode points back to the greatest provision of all: Jesus. The cross and resurrection remind us that God has already given us what we need most—and that changes how we face lack, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty today.

What does it really mean that God is sovereign—and can we trust Him when life doesn’t make sense?

In this episode, Kimberly Roddy and Elizabeth Powell dive deep into the tension between God’s sovereignty and His providence. We often say “God is in control,” but what happens when His choices feel confusing, painful, or even unfair?

Through honest conversation and real-life examples, we explore:

  • The difference between God’s sovereignty and providence
  • Why trusting God’s power is easier than trusting His heart
  • How to navigate seasons of pain, loss, and unanswered questions
  • What Scripture really says about God’s control, goodness, and purpose
  • Why “God works all things for good” can feel hard to hear in the moment

This episode doesn’t offer easy answers—but it invites you into a deeper, more honest faith. If you’ve ever wrestled with questions like “Where is God in this?” or “Can I trust Him right now?”—this conversation is for you.

Join us as we lean into the truth: God is God, and we are not—and He is still good.

Some desires are holy and still go unanswered on our timeline. Kimberly and Elizabeth continue the conversations series by elaborating on practical ideas that flow from discussing God's Sovereignty and His Provision. They sit down for an unfiltered conversation about Christian singleness, jealousy, and the quiet grief of watching other people step into marriage and kids while you’re still waiting, serving, and trying to trust God’s provision.

The heart of the conversation is hope with substance: we cannot define ourselves by relationship status, whether single or married, because Jesus is the only safe foundation for identity. We explore what real church community can look like for singles, the childless, the divorced, and anyone who feels marginalized, plus simple ways to practice kindness and dignity in everyday moments that can otherwise wound.

Do you find it easy to affirm God's big-picture rule but struggle to believe He will provide in the particulars? Or maybe you see His provision again and again but wrestle to trust His choices when they don't look good or kind? In this conversation, we unpack the difference between God’s sovereignty and God’s provision, not as abstract theology but as lived experience: delayed marriage and the sting of comparison, illness that forces a reckoning with God’s goodness, and the quiet ways care arrives off-schedule yet on time.

We uncover how family systems write our earliest scripts about the characteristics of God, how envy takes root when timelines stretch, and why control feels safer than surrender when life doesn’t go to plan.

If you’ve ever wanted to “speak to management” about timing, fairness, or unanswered prayer, this conversation offers language, perspective, and gentler rhythms of trust. Subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review telling us where you find trust hardest—sovereignty or provision—and why.

Two friends and two decades of story. We open the door on how our friendship began in Atlanta—roommates, youth ministry, and life maps—and how those early rhythms shaped the way we lead, teach, and pray today.

We also trace the roots of The Father’s Business. Elizabeth’s mom, Sylvia Gunter, never set out to build a brand; she prayed with people, wrote what served them, and watched God carry those resources farther than any plan could. When Sylvia handed us the baton, she gave us permission to honor the heartbeat while finding our own voice. That voice found a home in our podcast. Starting in 2022, we began translating legacy tools into conversations you can take on a walk, into the car, or onto the couch. And we keep returning to identity: knowing who God is and who you are in him.

If you’re longing for practical ways to trust God when life looks dark, to grow a resilient faith, and to be reminded you’re a beloved son or daughter, you’re in the right place. What if every need you carry could meet a specific name of God? We close our series on the character of God by threading dozens of biblical names and attributes into one sweeping, spoken blessing for the year ahead, paired with a heartfelt thank you and a short creative pause while we pray and prepare what’s next.

Across this warm, reflective finale, we name mercy that rises new every morning, steadfast love and faithfulness as steady ground, and the deep friendship of God who never forsakes us. We pray peace as true shalom that guards anxious minds, ask the Good Shepherd to restore worn souls, and invite presence over striving so your days are defined by abundance rather than scarcity. We explore grace and truth that free instead of shame, justice that restores, and wonder before the Creator whose beauty fills ordinary life with meaning. Identity takes center stage as we bless you to walk as a new creation—chosen, adopted, redeemed—singing the freedom of Christ in both quiet and crowded places.

This benediction gathers language of Scripture into practical encouragement you can pray over your calendar, your relationships, your work, and your rest. While we pause to seek God for the next season, more than 200 archived episodes—teachings, stories, devotionals, and prayers—stand ready to meet you right where you are.

Holiday streets can sparkle while hearts feel heavy. We name that tension without flinching, tracing how joy and grief often share the same story—from the wonder of Jesus’ birth to the tears of families scarred by Herod’s violence. That honest frame sets the stage for a deeper exploration of shalom, the kind of peace that means wholeness when life is anything but simple.

We walk through the story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4, who welcomed Elisha, received an unasked-for promise, and then endured devastating loss. Her words—“It is well”—weren’t denial; they were a hard-won declaration that God’s presence holds when explanations don’t. She brings her anguish straight to the man of God, speaks her disappointment without filters, and refuses to let go. That pairing of lament and stubborn hope offers a roadmap for anyone carrying unanswered prayers, empty chairs at the table, or dreams that still feel out of reach.

Together we lean into a faith that doesn’t pretend, a hope that faces reality, and a peace that isn’t fragile. Whether you’re celebrating, grieving, or doing both at once, you’ll find language for honest prayer and a blessing to rest in the heart of Jehovah Shalom. If this conversation strengthens you, share it with someone who needs steadiness today, subscribe for more reflections, and leave a review so others can find their way to this space of hope.

Christmas isn’t about chasing a fragile calm; it’s about meeting the One who is Peace. We dive into Isaiah 9:6 and Luke 2 to explore why Jesus is called the Prince of Peace, how His arrival establishes unbreakable reconciliation with God, and what that means for anxious hearts and complicated family rooms. Instead of teaching you to “try harder” at serenity, we walk through a better way—receiving the presence of Christ and letting His peace rule your heart when the night feels longest.

We unpack the difference between human treaties and God’s permanent peace, and we get practical about carrying peace into real life: tense gatherings, frayed nerves, and the pressure to keep traditions perfect. You’ll hear how aligning spirit, soul, and body with the God of peace (1 Thessalonians 5:23–24) reshapes your responses, helps you set healthy boundaries without bitterness, and turns you into a quiet catalyst for reconciliation. From the glow of Christmas lights to the quiet work of blessing others by name, we share habits that move you from control to trust.

Stay to the end for a spoken blessing of peace drawn from Scripture—words to still your mind, guard your heart, and remind you that His government and His peace will never end. If you’re longing for more than a mood, come rediscover the Person who brings wholeness, comfort, and courage that lasts beyond the season.

The name that changes everything isn’t complicated. Immanuel tells the truth about God’s heart: He moves toward us, not away, and He chooses closeness over spectacle. We trace the promise from Isaiah’s sign to John’s thunderous opening, and we sit with the wonder that the One who made all things stepped into a body, a family, and a world that wears both joy and pain.

We explore how the Word who was with God and was God became the light that no darkness can overcome, not as a distant force but as a person who knew hunger, thirst, weariness, and tears. That choice matters for everyday life. When Jesus heals, forgives, and welcomes, He shows the Father’s extravagant love in motion. When He enters our grief and our celebration, He dignifies our humanity and anchors our hope. Emmanuel is not a seasonal idea. He remains with us now, steady in sorrow and bright in joy.

Hope feels fragile when leaders fail, plans shift, and the season stirs old grief. Isaiah’s promise cuts through the noise: a child will be called Everlasting Father. We sit with that surprising name, trace it through the life of Jesus, and discover why it changes how we see God, ourselves, and the world we’re called to love.

We start by reading Isaiah 9:6 and asking why a messianic title uses “Father.” The name shows what Jesus came to reveal—the Father’s heart. Drawing from Colossians and John, we point to moments where Jesus speaks and acts with the Father’s authority, making the invisible God visible: mercy for the shamed, presence for the afraid, and steadfast love for the overlooked. That lens reframes Advent as more than waiting; it becomes resting in Someone whose care does not end.

We close with a spoken blessing—words to help you breathe, receive, and remember the Father who holds yesterday, today, and forever. If this encourages you, share it with a friend who needs steady hope, subscribe for more Advent reflections, and leave a review to help others find the podcast.

“He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found.” Across these few rich minutes, we don’t pretend pain away. Listeners will hear a simple prayer of blessing for joy, peace, strength, and love, and a reminder that divine abundance does not thin when struggles rise. What if the strongest presence in your life was also the most tender? We open Isaiah 9 and follow the trail of “Mighty God” through Jeremiah, the Psalms, Isaiah 40, and Zephaniah to meet a champion who doesn’t just win battles—He carries people. God is valiant and victorious, and yet scripture keeps pairing that strength with compassion, attention to detail, and delight. That blend isn’t abstract. It reframes how we face fatigue, fear, and the long silences that often mark December.

We talk about a power big enough to speak galaxies into existence and close enough to count stars by name. Then we step into the nativity and let the paradox land: a warrior arrives as a baby. Incarnation isn’t a sentimental moment; it’s God’s chosen strategy to save, showing that real might can wear humility without losing authority. The arc continues to the cross, where surrender becomes the decisive victory. If you’re longing for a faith that holds under pressure, come rest in the God who is both fortress and friend, holy beyond comparison and near beyond doubt.

Ready to rethink Christmas beyond the soft glow of the nativity scene? We trace the raw edges of a story packed with impossibility: a miraculous conception that risks reputation, a fiancé crushed then redirected by an angelic dream, shepherds abandoning their only income to chase a sky split with glory, and magi crossing borders for years guided by a stubborn star. The familiar becomes startling again, and that shock opens a door to courage.

This conversation isn’t about nostalgia; it’s a call to live alert. Where might God be interrupting your ordinary with an extraordinary ask—reconciling a relationship, giving with sacrifice, pivoting a career, or trusting a nudge that won’t let go? We close with a simple charge for the season: marvel at the outrageous generosity of the Father and offer your own gift—reckless abandon to follow Jesus. As Advent begins, we turn to Isaiah 9:6 and discover why “Wonderful Counselor” is more than a seasonal phrase—it’s a living promise of guidance that is both awe-inspiring and intimately near. As we unpack the Hebrew layers behind dominion and peace, we reframe “government” as an unshakable authority and “peace” as wholeness, wellness, and rest for restless minds. That promise doesn’t wait for perfect circumstances; it arrives as the Holy Spirit, the parakletos, who teaches, comforts, advocates, and reminds us of everything Jesus said.

If you’re in a season of waiting, you’re not alone. Advent honors that ache and points to a kingdom whose dominion and peace never end. Prophecy doesn’t fade; it ripens. Along the way we share resources for daily formation, including our 365-day devotional Strength To Equal Your Days, created to ground each morning in hope and Scripture. The word Savior can feel familiar enough to skim past, especially in a season crowded with lists, sales, and year-end hurry. We slow down to ask what Luke 2:11 actually promised to people who had waited four centuries for God to speak and lived under the weight of empire. Many longed for a military hero. God answered with a child. That surprising arrival still reshapes our expectations of rescue, power, and peace.

We explore how Savior in Scripture means deliverer and rescuer, but also points to wholeness—Yeshua, the Lord is salvation. Forgiveness of sin is not the finish line; it is the doorway into relationship. Drawing from Philippians 3, we talk about knowing Christ as experiential intimacy, the kind that recognizes a friend’s voice in a noisy world. Salvation becomes a life with God, not just a decision in the past. From there, we get practical: how to cultivate savoring instead of speed, how stillness and mindfulness help us pay attention to His presence, and why comparison dulls wonder. Simple rhythms—breath prayers, threshold pauses, naming God’s attributes—train our hearts to enjoy Him deeply.

What if holiness isn’t a finish line you sprint toward but a song that shapes who you’re becoming? We dive deep into the meaning of holy across Scripture and discover why “Holy, holy, holy” is the only attribute repeated three times around God’s throne. Instead of a distant ideal, holiness emerges as God’s very essence—His moral beauty and radiant otherness—drawing us into relationship, not performance.

We unpack the tension many of us feel between “be holy” and “I keep falling short,” and we reframe it through grace. Peter’s call to be holy and Paul’s promise that “He will do it” set the stage: holiness is not self-improvement but alignment. The Holy Spirit—who seals, convicts, comforts, and renews—does the sanctifying work as we abide.

What if the most powerful way to change leadership isn’t a vote, a memo, or a trend, but a prayer said with a clear, focused heart? We open Scripture and trace a vivid portrait of the qualities that shape wise, courageous, and compassionate authority—then we pray them over the people who lead our governments, churches, families, and communities.

Anchored in 1 Timothy 2:1–2, we explore why praying for leaders matters for public peace and personal holiness, then step through a living gallery of biblical models.

All these threads tie back to Jesus, our model of perfect leadership. We pray for leaders to reflect His shepherd heart, submission to the Father, purity of motive, union of grace and truth, costly obedience, and deep compassion. If you’ve felt discouraged by shallow leadership or polarized discourse, this conversation reorients the focus to character that lasts and actions that bless.

Grace invites people close; truth keeps them grounded; together they set us free. We open with Gideon hiding in a winepress, terrified and hungry, and watch him build an altar called “The Lord is Peace” before any battle is won. That scene reframes everything: God doesn’t just hand out calm; He reveals Himself as Peace—shalom—wholeness, harmony, and flourishing in the middle of pressure and uncertainty. From there, we trace how Scripture invites us to receive peace, such as Colossians 3 which urges us to “let the peace of Christ rule”—to let peace act as an umpire over our competing thoughts and emotions.

Because anxiety is not just spiritual but also physical, we share practical ways to partner with God’s peace: simple breathwork (4-7-8), limiting inputs that inflame worry, grounding in Scripture, and small, steady practices that regulate body and mind. The goal isn’t numbing out; it’s living awake and anchored. The word faithful sounds warm—until life feels cold. We went straight at the tension: the ache of betrayal, the sting of unanswered prayers, and the fear that maybe God won’t show up this time. Then we opened Scripture where God names Himself—compassionate, gracious, abounding in love and faithfulness—and traced how that unchanging character steadies us when circumstances don’t.

We explored hesed, the covenant love that outlasts our performance, and revisited Israel’s wilderness story: cloud by day, fire by night, and new mercies like fresh bread each morning. Faithfulness doesn’t erase consequences; it tells the truth and still stays. Peter’s journey from denial to restoration shows how Jesus meets failure with purpose, commissioning us even while healing our shame. We also talked about living this out now: training our eyes to notice daily mercies, standing firm in hope when trust breaks, and letting God’s reliability become our anchor when feelings are loud and facts are thin. As Ephesians 2:10 affirms, we’re created for good works only we can fulfill—free to be exactly who God designed us to be. When we embrace this purpose, we find freedom, fulfillment, and the joy of being exactly who we were created to be.

Divine forgiveness extends beyond mere pardon—it completely erases sin, lifting our guilt and removing our burden as far as the east is from the west. Through Christ's sacrifice on the cross, God demonstrates the lavish nature of His forgiveness, wiping our slate clean rather than keeping a running tally of our transgressions. In today's podcast, we discuss further some of the following:

• God's forgiveness is uniquely divine—He intentionally chooses to remember our sins no more
• Unlike human forgiveness which is often partial or conditional, God's forgiveness is complete and abundant
• We can forgive someone while still holding them accountable for their actions
• We must surrender our right to be judge and jury, allowing God to handle justice His way
• God's forgiveness flows from His covenant relationship with us, not from our merit
• Our identity in Christ means we are completely forgiven—past, present, and future

This episode launches our exciting new series exploring God's character that will run from September through December. We begin with the profound moment in Exodus 34 when God passes before Moses and proclaims His name: "The Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."

We contrast God's natural inclination toward grace with our human tendency to justify anger and impatience. While we rush to defend our right to be upset, God consistently chooses compassion. His "hesed"—covenant loyalty and enduring kindness—means His grace isn't a temporary emotion but a permanent commitment, especially for those in Christ.

The challenge for us isn't about striving harder to be good people. It's about alignment—positioning ourselves to allow God's character to flow through us naturally. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and transformation by looking for evidence of God's compassion and grace in your everyday life this week.

What happens when someone who grew up without a father becomes a father figure to many? In this powerful conversation with Bob Brennan, we discover how wounds can transform into ministry and brokenness into blessing.

Bob's journey begins with a childhood marked by an alcoholic, absent father who eventually passed away when Bob was just 15 years old. This absence created a void that affected not only his understanding of earthly fatherhood but also his perception of God as Father. For decades, Bob struggled to experience God as present and loving, maintaining a distant relationship much like the one he had with his own father.

Today, Bob serves as an elementary school principal who knows children by name, gets down on the floor with kindergartners, and shows compassion to students struggling emotionally. At church, he mentors young men, creating safe spaces for them to be authentic and heard. With his four daughters, he demonstrates the unconditional love he wishes he had received as a child.

What's particularly striking about Bob's story is his approach to spiritual fathering. Rather than focusing on behavior modification, he prays specifically for aspects of the fruit of the Spirit that each person needs to develop. He remains patient with God's timing, understanding that his role is to love consistently while God does the transforming work.

For anyone feeling discouraged about children who have wandered from faith or struggling with their own father wounds, Bob offers this wisdom: love unconditionally without condoning harmful behaviors, be patient, and recognize that ultimately, we are not God. When we release our need to control outcomes and trust God's perfect timing, we find freedom and peace in our role as spiritual fathers and mothers.

What does it mean to truly delight in God, beyond duty or obligation? In this final episode of the Safe in the Father's Heart series, Elizabeth and Kimberly explore the profound difference between serving God and delighting in Him—and how recognizing His delight in us transforms everything.

Delighting in God, they explain, isn't about manufacturing happy feelings. "Delighting isn't something you've got to muster up." It's recognizing God's joy in you first, then responding. The hosts share practical ways to cultivate awareness of God's presence—from personalizing scripture promises to finding songs that speak His truth, from inviting Him into mundane tasks to simply making space to enjoy His company like you would a friend.

The episode culminates with the powerful truth that our woundedness, when healed, becomes our greatest ministry tool. As "wounded healers," we can represent the Father's heart to others from a place of authenticity rather than obligation.

Have you recognized God's delight in you today? How might that awareness change everything?

Have you ever wondered how to transform your prayer life from routine requests into powerful conversations with God? This devotional episode from Sylvia Gunter's "Prayer Portions" unveils the transformative practice of pleading God's promises—a spiritual discipline that strengthens faith and deepens our relationship with our covenant-keeping Father.

We explore the foundational truth that God never breaks His word. Unlike even the most well-intentioned human promises, divine promises remain unshakable. What makes this practice so powerful is how it aligns our hearts with God's intentions while acknowledging His unlimited capacity. As Ephesians 3:20 reminds us, God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."

Have you ever felt like God was distant or hidden from view? We've all experienced those dark nights of the soul when faith feels fragile and God's presence seems like a distant memory. In this deeply personal episode, Elizabeth and Kimberly share how a simple yet profound truth—"the moon is round"—became our lifeline during seasons of devastating loss.

What makes this truth so powerful is that it creates space for honest wrestling with God. It doesn't demand perfect faith or understanding. Like Job, David, and even Jesus in Gethsemane, we can bring our raw questions and doubts to God while still remaining in relationship with Him. The paradox of faith is that we believe in God's power to intervene—He could have healed our fathers—and yet He often doesn't act in the ways we desperately want.

If you're walking through your own season of grief, questioning, or darkness, know that you're not alone. Your questions are valid. Your pain matters. And even when you can't see the full picture, the moon is still round. God is still faithful. He is still holding you, even when it doesn't feel like it.

Trust becomes our most powerful weapon in a world constantly whispering doubts about God's goodness. Sylvia Gunter's raw testimony of caring for her absent father during his final days reveals the complicated intersection of duty, disappointment, and divine purpose.

"It doesn't feel like love, but I choose to trust." These words capture the essence of faith when circumstances feel anything but good. Since the Garden of Eden, the enemy's oldest tactic has been questioning God's trustworthiness—a lie that echoes through our pain, waiting, and suffering. But what happens when we deliberately choose trust as our response?

This episode concludes with the powerful Shield of Trust Prayer, offering declarations that build a fortress of faith when circumstances feel overwhelming. If you're navigating disappointment, betrayal, or unanswered prayers, this conversation offers both compassionate understanding and practical wisdom for choosing trust as your weapon against doubt.

Grace doesn't come naturally when we're dealing with difficult people. Those irritating individuals in our lives—the ones we sometimes call "grace growers"—test our patience and challenge our spiritual maturity in profound ways.

This teaching invites us to examine how we respond when offended, annoyed, or injured by others. Ready to transform your difficult relationships? Listen now and discover biblical wisdom.

Trust. Such a simple word, yet one that carries profound complexity in our spiritual lives. When life delivers uncertainty, disappointment, or pain, trust becomes the battleground where faith either withers or flourishes.

We explore trust as "an active expectation of seeing God show up for you." Rather than listing religious duties, Jesus pointed to belief—or more accurately translated, trust—as the foundation of our relationship with God.

But we don't shy away from the hard truth: trusting is difficult. We compare broken trust to a shattered glass jar that takes time and care to reassemble. Our brains catalog painful experiences as protection mechanisms, making trust biologically challenging when similar situations arise. Add emotional wounds and spiritual warfare, and it's no wonder many of us struggle to surrender control, even to a trustworthy God.

What makes this conversation unique is our vulnerability about our own trust struggles. We talk honestly about the tension between knowing theological truths about God's character and reconciling those with painful life experiences. We acknowledge the difficult questions: How do we trust when prayers go unanswered? How do we rebuild faith after devastating loss? Listen now, and discover how even faith as small as a mustard seed can transform your relationship with a Father who is endlessly patient with your journey.

What happens when the very word "Father" triggers pain instead of comfort? For many, reconciling the image of God as Father with traumatic experiences of earthly fathers creates a profound spiritual struggle.

This episode navigates the delicate terrain of father wounds with both gentleness and honesty. We acknowledge that many listeners bring experiences of neglect, absence, abuse, or abandonment to their understanding of God. These wounds can make it nearly impossible to trust that God as Father is fundamentally different from the human fathers who caused harm.

Scripture doesn't shy away from questioning God. Job rants for thirteen chapters. David's laments fill the Psalms. Even Jesus cried out, "My God, why have you forsaken me?" The biblical invitation to "reason together" with God (Isaiah 1:18) actually means "argue it out"—God welcomes your wrestling, your questions, and even your anger. If you're limping through life with father wounds, we pray you'll encounter the God who binds up bruises and heals wounds, not with pat answers, but with His loving presence.

What if your understanding of God as Father has been shaped more by wounds than by truth? In this deeply restorative episode, Elizabeth and Kimberly guide listeners through a profound exploration of how we view God and the ways our misconceptions limit our experience of His love.

Drawing from personal experiences, including Sylvia Gunter's transformative journey from performance to belovedness, this conversation reveals how our relationships with earthly fathers often color our perception of our heavenly Father. The revelation that changes everything? As Jesus demonstrated by using the tender term "Abba" (similar to "Daddy"), God delights in you simply because you are His. This isn't just theological theory—it's the healing truth that can transform your spiritual walk from duty to delight.

Through a beautiful portrait painted from Scripture, discover a Father who is faithful when others abandon you, generous beyond measure, compassionate in your struggles, and attentive to your every need. His love isn't earned through performance but lavished freely as a gift to His beloved children.

Whether your earthly father was absent, abusive, or amazing, this episode will help you release distorted views and embrace the fullness of who God really is—your safe place, your provider, your protector, and the One who rejoices over you with singing. What happens when our hearts operate from a place of abandonment rather than security in God's love? This episode delves into the concept of "living from an orphan heart" – that desperate longing to be attached to someone or something that will provide worth and security.

The conversation explores the parable of the Prodigal Son through a fresh lens – not just as a story of rebellion and return, but as a profound illustration of two sons (one who "got busy" and one who "got lost") who both struggled to grasp their father's unconditional love. Most revealing is how the father continually addresses both as "my son," emphasizing relationship over performance.

For those wrestling with trust issues, control tendencies, fear of abandonment, or performance-based identity, this episode offers both insight and hope. The journey from orphan mindset to secure sonship begins with awareness of these patterns and an invitation to hear God's persistent voice calling us back to our true home in His heart.

In our fast-paced, externally-focused world, we often overlook the deepest part of ourselves - our human spirit. One of the most transformative biblical practices is blessing the human spirit. Though this concept might sound unfamiliar to many modern Christians, it's deeply rooted in Scripture and offers profound healing and restoration.

While "blessing" gets casually tossed around in our culture, this episode reveals its true nature as a profound spiritual practice with life-changing power. At our core, we all wrestle with foundational questions: Who am I? What am I here for? Do I have what it takes? Am I truly loved? Blessing addresses these questions by reminding our spirits of God-given truth rather than letting our experiences, wounds, or lies define us.

When blessing becomes a regular practice, it produces profound fruit in our lives. Our identity and self-worth are restored. We experience peace that isn't easily shaken by circumstances. We gain a greater sense of God's purpose and the bigger picture. Our intimacy with the Father deepens. We're able to live with our spirit, soul, and body in proper alignment. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, we become more whole - not because we've strived harder, but because we've allowed God to speak to the deepest part of who we are.

Ready to experience the "strength that equals your days"? This episode offers both the theological foundation and practical tools to begin nurturing your spirit through the power of blessing.

Navigating the complex landscape of spiritual warfare requires wisdom, discernment, and a solid foundation in Christ. Every believer faces it, but few know how to recognize when something is a spiritual attack versus life's natural hardships or God's refining work.

We unpack the critical differences between spiritual warfare and other forms of struggle. Spiritual warfare often reveals itself through repetitive cycles of things going wrong, sudden intense discouragement, disruptions before ministry opportunities, or opposition that feels disproportionate to the situation. Yet not everything difficult is an attack—sometimes God allows hardship to deepen our faith, build character, or display His glory through our faithfulness, as seen in Job's story.

Whether facing spiritual warfare, life's hardships, or God's refining process, our response remains consistent: sit in your identity, walk in obedience, and stand in truth. We're praying for you to have the discernment to recognize what you're facing and the peace to respond with confidence in Christ's victory.

"Who am I when everything changes?" It's a question we rarely consider until we're faced with a significant life transition—a graduation, an empty nest, a career shift, a health diagnosis, or a relationship ending. What does it truly mean to be "blessed and highly favored"? The angel's greeting to Mary has become a popular phrase, but Mary's subsequent journey challenges our modern interpretation of divine blessing. When we examine Mary's life after this pronouncement, we discover a path marked by difficulty rather than ease.

The transformative truth revealed in this episode is that Mary was blessed and highly favored not because her circumstances would be easy, but because God had specifically chosen her. Her identity as God's chosen vessel preceded any action on her part, and the pivotal moment came when she fully embraced this identity through her magnificent song.

Elizabeth and Kimberly unpack how this understanding transforms our approach to our own identity and circumstances. True blessing isn't about getting what we want but about becoming who God created us to be – beloved children who can live from their divine identity regardless of external conditions. Like Mary, we can choose to receive our identity and live from it, allowing it to transform how we navigate both celebration and suffering. Join us as we explore what it means to be truly "blessed and highly favored" in God's kingdom.

Discover the seismic shift that takes place when we cease striving to produce spiritual fruit in our own strength and instead, lean into a life led by the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth Gunter-Powell and Kimberly Roddy embark on a thought-provoking journey through Galatians 5. Together, we unravel the tightly wound misconceptions surrounding the Fruit of the Spirit and candidly share our initial battles with legalism, the liberating truth of Christ's freedom, and the transformational power of abiding in Jesus.

We've all wondered whether the kindness or patience we observe in ourselves or others is genuinely Spirit-borne or merely a facade shaped by societal expectations. This episode bravely tackles these complexities, offering compelling insights into the nuanced differences between actions influenced by self-interest and the authentic outpouring of the Spirit within us.

Join us as we create a sacred space for spiritual exploration—a laboratory where conviction and encouragement intersect, fostering growth. We extend an invitation for you to engage with us in this transformative process of connecting with God's Spirit. Tony Souder is the CEO of 100 Years, https://ouronehundredyears.com/, and visionary behind the Pray for Me campaign, https://prayformecampaign.com/. Our latest episode captures the heart and soul of this movement, as Tony joins us to share poignant narratives that illustrate the power of prayer in forging unbreakable intergenerational bonds. His insights into transforming the church's approach to nurturing young spirits are not just enlightening; they're a clarion call for all members to unite in support of our youth through prayer relationships.

We discuss the immense impact mentors have on guiding the next generation, with personal stories from Kimberly and Elizabeth. The essence of the church as a family—a sanctuary where each member is cherished and guided—is made abundantly clear through stories of transformation and spiritual mentorship that resonate deeply in today's discussion. We also discuss the power that family members can have on their own children, whether it be sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews, through championing people outside the family to prayer along with family members for these loved ones for years and years to come.

This episode is a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone yearning to deepen their spiritual connections and navigate life's challenges with grace. As Tony recounts his wife's health journey and the lessons learned from caregiving, we're reminded of the steadfast presence of God and the comfort prayer brings to both giver and receiver. We wrap up by offering practical resources to enrich your prayer life, ensuring that this conversation isn't just a moment of reflection but a springboard for action in your own faith journey. Join us as we explore the rich tapestry of relationships strengthened by prayer, and how they lay the groundwork for a legacy of faith that endures.

Join us as we explore the profound depths of the Lord’s Prayer, where we confront the delicate interplay between our reverence for God and the vulnerability of our needs. Our discourse delves into the transformative shift from 'Your' to 'us,' a reminder of our collective journey in faith and the potency of communal prayer. Through personal stories and theological insight, we illuminate the intricate balance between exalting God's sovereignty and humbly presenting our earthly supplications.

Our recent reflections have led us to a greater appreciation of 'Give us this day our daily bread,' a line that echoes the Israelites' daily dependence on manna and God's unwavering provision. The act of forgiveness unfolds before us like a divine tapestry, threaded with the grace freely given through Christ's ultimate sacrifice. As we traverse this landscape, we unearth the misconception that our efforts are the linchpin of forgiveness, revealing instead that it is a gift extending far beyond our human capacity. The liberation found in granting forgiveness—a release from the bonds of resentment—is not a mere transaction but an alignment with the merciful heart of Jesus. This segment leaves us with a renewed spirit, one that is bathed in gratitude for the forgiveness we've already been granted and eager to reflect that grace in our relationships.

In the closing moments of our conversation, we cast a spotlight on the Lord's Prayer as a beacon guiding us toward authentic satisfaction in God. This sacred invocation calls us to align our desires with God's will, seeking protection from life's temptations, and reveling in the assurance of His protective embrace against spiritual harm. As we conclude, the recognition of God's eternal kingdom, power, and glory becomes not just words in a prayer, but a lived reality that transforms our everyday existence. Join us for this episode that promises not just to inform, but to reshape your heart in the presence of the Divine.

Have you ever caught yourself mindlessly reciting the Lord's Prayer, only to wonder about its deeper significance? Let Elizabeth and Kimberly guide you through its transformative potential and how to avoid the trap of empty repetition. We share stories exploring the prayer's ability to draw us into a family, a community of faith. Listen as we discuss the importance of recognizing God as our loving Father, while not forgetting His majestic power, and how this delicate balance should shape our approach to prayer.

The idea of God's kingdom can seem distant, something for the afterlife perhaps, but our conversation turns that notion on its head. We discuss how 'Your kingdom come' is not just a wish for the future, but a call to action here and now. Join us as we navigate the tension between managing our daily responsibilities and embracing our role in God's grand narrative. Be challenged to rethink how to bring the kingdom's values to life in every corner of your existence, from the mundane to the magnificent.

Wrapping up, we delve into the heart of alignment through prayer, asking for God's will to be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Praying these words isn't just a request; it's a commitment to setting aside our own agendas in favor of God's perfect plan. We encourage you to embrace this practice, not just as a routine, but as a way to transform your daily life. So come along, tune in, and let this episode inspire you to worship, trust, and align with your Father in heaven more deeply than ever before.

As many look forward to this season with great joy, there are just as many who wish the holidays would quickly pass because it is too painful. The same is true of the birth of Jesus. While Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, and kings will savor fondly the joy of Jesus’ birth, thousands of families in the surrounding area will mark it as the anniversary of the horrific night their young son was massacred by Herod… great hope and great pain all in one story.

Ask God to help you identify your own broken cisterns and look to Him for ways that He can renew you and meet all of your needs.
