Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

In reviewing the last episode, Rabbi Berkson cautions against deceptive teachers, as John also cautioned in 1 John 4:1. This deception is at work today in some faiths that are actually a “World System mixed with Truth.” As Rabbi Berkson points out, some people have a tough time hearing the message from the Word of Elohim because it’s not delivered in a way that matches their predetermined ideas of how it should be dispensed. The teachers in this system are also guarded in what they say and how they say it because they are more concerned with offending people than with pleasing Elohim.

In 1 John 4:7, Rabbi Berkson begins this teaching by explaining that we are to love one another who are of the same mind in Messiah. He explains that if we can’t love each other, how can we extend any love outside of ourselves to those whom Elohim would want to have in covenant with Him? In verse 9, the word ‘manifest’ is used, and Rabbi Berkson wants to ensure the definition of that word does not get lost in any prior understanding we may have. The word ‘manifest’ means to be revealed to the seeing eye. Messiah is manifested through us as we live through Him, not the other way around, loving others as He would love them.

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Returning to the letter of 1 John, Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this teaching in chapter 3. He proclaims how wonderful it is that Yahweh is pleased to call us His children. Rabbi Berkson goes on to say that because the world does not understand Yahweh, it will not understand us either. But we understand Yahweh because He has chosen to reveal Himself to us by opening our eyes and ears. The day is coming when the Messiah appears. We will understand completely, as John puts it, because we shall be like Him.

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yahweh expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.
From the first nine verses of John chapter 14, Rabbi Steve Berkson shows us that Messiah Yeshua was the “ultimate expression of discipleship” under His Father. As followers of Messiah, we should be the same, so that others will see Yeshua represented in us and ultimately see the Father.
What did Yeshua do? He walked out the Torah-observant life perfectly. He invites us to do the same and provides help by sending His Spirit.
What’s in a name? Yeshua says, “if you ask whatever in My Name…” Does this mean that, if His Name is invoked like a magic genie, He has to do one’s bidding? Rabbi Steve clarifies what Messiah meant when He told us to use His Name.

To refresh our minds and hearts, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings us back to 1 John chapter 1 to expound on who Messiah Yeshua is and what He should be to all of us, namely life, light, and truth. Through this understanding, we should do our utmost to live in the light, having fellowship with Elohim and with each other. This fellowship is achievable only by living in covenant with Elohim, where there is only light and no darkness at all.

In chapter 2 of 1 John, Rabbi Berkson begins by identifying the number one problem, according to him, in the Body of Messiah today.

• How can you know that you know Messiah?

• How is the love of Elohim ‘perfected’ in you?

• What is a ‘stumbling block’? How does it affect your life and walk?

• What is meant by “do not love the World nor that which is in it”?

• Are we in the “Last Hour”?

• What is an ‘anti-messiah’?

• Why did John say, “and you know all…”?

• What happens when someone rejects Torah?

• How do you know that you are “born of Him”?

You can only understand Love and Torah when you understand how light and darkness can influence and work in your life. Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Have you maintained a faithful, straight walk in Torah? Or have you gotten “off the path” a little or a lot? Do you sense a call to return to the path, to Yahweh? As Rabbi Steve Berkson concludes this teaching series, he begins with Joel 2:12, where we see Elohim giving His people instruction on how to return to Him. As Rabbi Berkson points out, Yahweh expects those returning to Him to be serious about repairing the breach in the relationship.

• What is tearing your garments? Why does Elohim want a tearing of the heart instead?

• What does Elohim do to get your attention so that you return to the path?

In Jeremiah 32:37-42, Yahweh says that as much as He brought evil to His people for their turning away from Him, He will bring just as much good to those who return.

• When Elohim says, “I shall give them one heart…”, is He just going to hand out new hearts to everybody?

• Ephesians chapter 2 talks to us about the opportunity given to us to become what?

Moving to Isaiah 1:16-20, Rabbi Berkson points out that with a holistic understanding of Scripture, it’s not possible to get the message that Elohim just gives us everything. He also points out that the Scriptures can be used by many to draw erroneous conclusions.

• What is a ‘holistic’ approach to the Scriptures?

• How could someone prove from Scripture that their chicken was the Messiah?

• What is evil? How does Yahweh define evil?

• When Elohim says, “Come let us reason together…” (Isaiah 1:18), does that mean Yahweh wants your input?

In Isaiah chapter 58, Rabbi Steve clarifies that to truly be in covenant with our Creator, two things must work together.

• Is this chapter only referring to Yom Kippur?

• Doesn’t Elohim always respond to fasting and afflicting ourselves?

• What are the two things it takes to please Elohim?

• How does Rabbi Berkson interpret ‘speaking your own words’?

Verse-by-verse and step-by-step, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us on a journey of discovery as we learn how to covenant with our Creator and Father, which, from time to time, requires us to turn around and return (Shuva) to His Word so that we can have a sure entrance into His Kingdom.

Continuing from the last episode, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us from Ezekiel chapter 18 to chapter 33. In the first part of the chapter, Yahweh appoints the prophet Ezekiel as a “watchman” who warns the people of that time about the judgment coming upon them. Yahweh also gives clear instructions for how this appointment should be carried out, with a warning to the prophet of the consequences should he fail to perform his duties.

Have you maintained a faithful, straight walk in Torah? Or have you gotten “off the path” a little or a lot? Do you sense a call to return to the path, to Yahweh? After a quick review of the last two episodes, Rabbi Steve Berkson shows us from Jeremiah 33:7-8 that Yahweh promised to “turn back (Shuva) the captivity of Judah and Israel and build them as at the first.” In this passage, why does Yahweh mention both Judah and Israel?

• When was “at the first”? (Exodus 6:6) How can you relate to this concept today?

• How can you “return” if you were not born and raised as an Israeli?

• What is the first step of ‘returning’?

• What is the ‘Egypt’ that is over you today?

• What are the two levels of redemption that Messiah Yeshua provided for us?

• For what is the Land (of Israel) a metaphor?

• What is the 2-step process of “return” promised in Jeremiah 33:8?

From there, Rabbi Berkson takes us to Ezekiel chapter 18. In this chapter, we see how we will be held individually accountable for our behavior and the importance of “owning” our choices.

• Why are the words “Thus said Yahweh” important?

• What is a ‘nephesh’ and how has it been improperly defined?

• Is a son held accountable for the father’s unrighteousness, or vice versa?

• Is there such a thing as “generational curses”?

• Do you really reap what you sow?

• How can I make a new heart and spirit?

Verse-by-verse and step-by-step, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us on a journey of discovery as we learn how to covenant with our Creator and Father, which, from time to time, requires us to turn around and return (Shuva) to His Word so that we can have a sure entrance into His Kingdom.

Have you maintained a faithful, straight walk in Torah? Or have you gotten “off the path” a little or a lot? Do you sense a call to return to the path, to Yahweh?

Taking us to Jeremiah 29:12, Rabbi Steve Berkson points out Yahweh’s pattern of behavior toward His people. When He needs to correct covenant behavior, He starts with small, subtle nudges and then uses more severe measures to get our attention. If He determines that we are not listening or responding, we will be turned loose to “play with the pigs” and, hopefully, come to ourselves and return to Him and the Covenant.

• What’s the first thing one should do when returning to Yahweh?

• What is “hedging an apology”?

• What does it mean not to seek Yahweh with all your heart?

In Isaiah 55:6, two things are mentioned – seeking Yahweh while He can still be found and calling on Him while He is near.

• What causes Him not to be near? What separates you from Him and creates distance?

• Why do we not fully understand and accept His ways?

• What are 3 things that will forever be in the Kingdom of Elohim?

From there, Rabbi Berkson takes us to Lamentations chapters 3 and 5, where we see the formula for a prayer of repentance.

• Have you ever been contrary to the Covenant out of rebellion?

• What does “renew our days as of old” mean?

Then we hop back to Jeremiah 6:8-17, where we see that the Torah is much more than just “The Law”; it is for our instruction. Yahweh wants us to be ‘instructed’ by Him.

• How can our ears be “uncircumcised”?

• Why does Yahweh want to see us walk out His instructions?

• What is “greedy for gain”?

Verse-by-verse and step-by-step, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us on a journey of discovery, learning how to covenant with our Creator and Father, which, from time to time, requires us to turn around and return to His Word so that we can have a sure entrance into His Kingdom.

This teaching series is based on the tradition of “Shabbat Shuva,” or the “Shabbat of Return,” which falls between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur (the Day of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement). The text for this tradition is Hoshea (Hosea) chapter 14, which begins, “O Yisra’el, return to Yahweh your Elohim…”

After having gone through the Spring Feasts – Passover, Unleavened Bread, and Shavuot, which are types and shadows of the Hebrews’ exodus from Egypt and journey to Mt. Sinai, have you maintained a faithful, straight walk in Torah? Or have you gotten “off the path” a little or a lot? Do you sense a call to return to the path, to Yahweh?

• What is meant by “crookedness”? What does crookedness cause you to do?

• Regarding the call to return – return to what?

From there, Rabbi Berkson takes us into Leviticus 26 to examine the reasons for returning to the Covenant. In Leviticus chapter 26, the blessings and curses associated with Yahweh’s Covenant with His people are listed.

• How will you be able to walk in Covenant with the Creator?

From Leviticus, we go to Deuteronomy 4:25, where we see that Yahweh has an issue with His people and their idol worship. How can we relate to them today regarding ‘idol worship’? Rabbi Berkson then takes us to Deuteronomy chapter 30 to show us one of Moses’ final exhortations to the people as they are about to cross over into the Promised Land. Interestingly, Yahweh, through Moses, told the people that in their future they would stray from the path they were supposed to walk and be taken from the Land by their enemies, but as they were living in a foreign land, their hearts would turn back to Yahweh, and they would return once again to possess and live in their Promised Land.

• In this chapter, we see the phrase, “circumcise your heart” – what does that mean? Isn’t that just a “New Testament” concept? What is it doing left of Matthew?

And then we are taken to Romans chapter 10, where Rabbi Berkson points out that the apostle Paul is clearly writing about Torah observance and, indeed, substitutes the word ‘Messiah’ for the word ‘Torah’ as he quotes Moses in Deuteronomy chapter 30.

• What does Romans 10:4 really mean?

• What is “the righteousness of belief”?

• What is “the good news of the good”?

• Was there “Good News” before the New Testament?

Verse-by-verse and step-by-step, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us on a journey of discovery and learning how to covenant with our Creator and Father, which, from time to time, requires us to turn around and return to His Word so that we can have a sure entrance into His Kingdom.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues with the second “Great Command” to love your neighbor or each other. He picks up where we left off in James (Ya’akov) chapter 4, then moves into chapter 5, and finally takes us to 1 John chapter 1.

• How do your likes or dislikes affect your relationships with others? What does Rabbi mean by saying we have to “learn each other”?

• What does “friendship with the world” mean?

• What does “subject yourselves to Elohim” mean?

• What does “resist the devil” mean?

• How do you draw near to Elohim? How does Elohim draw near to you?

• When pursuing Torah, whose feelings are you most concerned about protecting – your friends and family or Elohim?

• How would you define ‘sin’?

• Do you really understand what the first two verses of 1 John are talking about?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

• What does “bridling the body” mean?

• Why is the ‘tongue’ such a focus in chapter 3?

• Are you SNIOP?

• What is “Humility and Integrity vs. Hypocrisy”?

• How can you be “behaving like a demon”?

• How are self-seeking, confusion, and foul deeds related? How can you avoid them?

Continuing in the book of James (Ya’akov), Rabbi Steve Berkson unpacks chapter 2…

• To whom did James (Ya’akov) write his letter? How do we identify with them today?

• How does one exhibit ‘partiality’?

• What’s the difference between ‘judging’ and ‘judgment’? Why is one less desirable to Abba than the other?

• What does it mean that if you’ve broken one Torah command, you’ve broken them all? Aren’t there different levels and kinds of sin?

• Why is the speed of our repentance important?

• Can we keep all the commandments in the Torah today?

• What are “salvation issues”?

• What does it mean to be “judged by the Torah of Freedom”? Are you really free?

• Are you a ‘conduit’ for everything that Yah desires to distribute to others?

• When should you stop calling yourself a believer?

• Why wasn’t Abraham’s righteousness because of his belief alone?

• How do belief and works (keeping Torah) function together?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, enabling you to do it and receive the blessings.

• Does Yahweh ever change?

• What is the definition of a “remnant”?

• By what term are we who are in covenant with Elohim called?

• When should you not post anything on social media?

• What is the first action you should take after praying when faced with a life issue?

• How are you to be “swift to hear and slow to speak”?

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

As he continues in Ephesians chapter 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson untangles common misunderstandings about disobedience, sin, covenant, and what it truly means to love Messiah Yeshua.

• What are “empty words”?

• What does it mean to be “a partaker with them”?

• Who are you to “have no fellowship with”?

From there, Rabbi Berkson takes us to 1 Timothy chapter 1 and explains how some have missed the goal of the command given by Paul to his disciple, namely a clean heart, a good conscience, and a sincere belief, and have turned aside to senseless talk, some even teaching that the Torah no longer applies to us today, just that we believe and love Messiah.

Then Rabbi Berkson moves us to 2 Peter chapter 1, where we see Peter telling us that we have been given exceedingly great and precious promises by the righteousness of our Elohim and Savior Messiah Yeshua. Rabbi Berkson also points out that belief in Elohim and His Messiah is just the foundation, and that you need to “add” to that foundation certain things.

• What is “Kingdom Access”?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

After a brief review of what we’ve learned so far, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues in Ephesians chapter 4, clarifying the apostle Paul’s instructions to followers of Messiah Yeshua about what is expected of them, and of us today, in how to conduct ourselves as those who will inherit the reign of Elohim and Messiah.

• What does it mean, “having put off the false, and speak truth”? (Eph 4:25)

• How can one be “wroth, but do not sin”? (Eph 4:26)

• What does it mean to “give place to the devil”? (Eph 4:27)

• What would be considered a “corrupt word”? (Eph 4:29)

• How could one “grieve the Set-Apart Spirit (Holy Spirit)”? (Eph 4:30)

• What is meant by “sealed for the day of redemption”?

• What is Elohim-Level forgiveness? (Eph 4:32)

• Imitate Elohim–how do I do that? (Eph 5:1)

• How does one “walk in love”? (Eph 5:2)

• Do you know how to make Elohim happy?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

“This is the harder part,” as Rabbi Steve Berkson says, meaning the appropriate interaction with one another that fulfills the second of the two great commands, loving our neighbor as ourselves. In this teaching, Rabbi Berkson pinpoints the main reason we struggle in our interactions with one another, which may surprise many of us.

Covering the remainder of Ephesians chapter 4, Rabbi Berkson again unpacks the writings of the apostle Paul to his assembly. As Paul desired, Rabbi Berkson desires that all those under his stewardship learn how to do what pleases the Creator and enter into the Kingdom of Elohim.

The study begins with Ephesians 3:14. In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson expounds on ‘Strengthening the Inner Man’. If your inner man is weak, you will fall short of the finish line and not complete the race.

• How do you identify your weaknesses?

• What are the “inner man exercises”? What do you do to strengthen those areas?

• How do the trials and challenges in your life help you?

• Who are the coaches or trainers who encourage and help you in your training?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, enabling you to do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’—loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

Building on 1 Corinthians chapter 13, also known as ‘The Love Chapter,’ Rabbi Steve Berkson explains how love can manifest in many forms, such as patience, putting others above yourself, and responding with kindness to those who mistreat or slander you. “The Love Chapter” states that true love does not behave indecently. What exactly is indecent behavior? Can you find a clear description in scripture? Rabbi Berkson discusses how this concept varies across different cultures, societies, and peoples. He also emphasizes the importance of “Situational Awareness” and why practicing it helps you show love to others.

Closing “The Love Chapter,” Rabbi Berkson carefully examines every word, phrase, and verse to help you, even if you’ve read this chapter many times before, gain an even deeper understanding of what it means to love one another. Rabbi Berkson once again breaks down these passages so you can better understand what Yah expects from you, enabling you to act accordingly and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This series is based on the “Two Great Commands”—loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

The context of this teaching is about ‘you thinking you know better than the Creator,’ as Rabbi Steve Berkson points out while finishing Romans chapter 12.

From there, Rabbi Berkson guides us to 1 Corinthians chapter 13, also known as “The Love Chapter.” What lesson on love would be complete without exploring there?

Rabbi Berkson again carefully explains these passages to help you better understand what Yah expects from you, so you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Providing a framework for this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson offers a brief review of Part 40, which covers the first 9 verses of Romans chapter 12. Then, moving forward, he focuses on verse 10, where we see “in appreciation, giving preference to each other.” Rabbi Berkson explains what appreciation and preference toward your brothers and sisters look like.

In this teaching, Rabbi Berkson covers Romans 12:10-16, which offers guidance and encouragement on how to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Rabbi Berkson once again breaks down the words in these passages so you can gain a deeper understanding of what Yah expects from you, so you can follow through and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

On the Holy Day of Shavuot, Rabbi Berkson continues to explore Romans chapter 12, helping us understand the meaning behind the writing to that assembly of that time and what it means for us today.

What does it mean to “offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, which is our ‘reasonable service’”?

What does it look like to “think more highly of yourself than you should think”?

Rabbi Berkson dives deep into verse 3 to explain what that means. What is the “measure of belief” that verse 3 mentions? What are the “gifts” listed in verses 6-8? Are they “spiritual gifts”?

Rabbi Berkson once again analyzes these passages to help you better understand what Yah expects of you, so you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

During the weekend of Shavuot, Rabbi Steve Berkson offers a preview of the Love and Torah teaching by exploring what Shavuot means in your life – a dedication to living with the belief of who and what Messiah Yeshua truly is and becoming like Him.

Then, in 2 John, Rabbi Berkson breaks down the first few verses as John writes to a family he might be discipling. The elder reminds them of the important commandment to walk in love as the Father desires.

In verse 7, John warns against associating with certain people who could undermine this family’s faith. Among these warnings, John uses the term “anti-Messiah.” Rabbi Berkson explains this term clearly.

What does it mean to “possess both the Father and the Son”? (2 John 9)

Next, Rabbi Berkson guides us to Romans 12 and explains the author’s intent as we read about presenting ourselves as a sacrifice and offering, not conforming to the “mindset of” the world, and understanding the perfect desire and will of the Father.

Rabbi Berkson again analyzes these passages to deepen your understanding of what Yah expects from you, so you can do it and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

What does the Body of Messiah “struggle with” when putting into practice loving your Elohim and loving your neighbor?

In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson presents four key points for attaining a critical part of your walk, as the Apostle Paul wrote, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Messiah Yeshua…”

As he begins this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings out the big guns, challenging you to understand and take action on what you really struggle with – you.

• Why do you seem to struggle with your relationships and with yourself?

Rabbi Berkson takes us to Philippians 2 to unpack what the Apostle Paul wrote to the assembly in Philippi about how they should conduct themselves in his absence. Paul exhorts those in that assembly to take on the mind of Messiah Yeshua, considering others better than themselves in humility and with awareness of others’ needs.

• Are you aware that what you do at any given moment may create an adverse condition for somebody else?

• Are you giving to others and the Father the kind of attention necessary for a flourishing relationship?

• What is meant by “leadership serving” and “submissive serving”?

• What are the differences between unity, uniformity, and conforming?

• Did Messiah Yeshua or His Apostles ever make the message of the Kingdom “palatable” for their listeners?

• We all have our own emotional preferences, but when can those be a bad thing?

• Are you the kind of person Yahweh can ‘trust’ with forever?

• Is there grumbling, complaining, and disputing in the Body of Messiah?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

In this teaching, Rabbi Berkson clarifies a couple of things, including the authority given to the husband in Scripture. It seems that some people misinterpreted what Rabbi said in the last teaching, to the point that it could be very troublesome in some marriages. So Rabbi Steve takes the opportunity to give some “Covenant-Live Coaching” for married couples, those looking to be married soon, and those who should not be in an intimate relationship yet, including teenagers.

Then, moving into Ephesians chapter 6, Rabbi Berkson addresses the children and “servants”.

Which commandment is for the children, and which is the only one with a promise? Could this commandment have a deeper, more far-reaching interpretation?

Paul wrote to the fathers not to “provoke” their children…what does this mean?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah—what’s the link? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’: loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

Building on Ephesians 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson starts with verse 18, discussing “emotional preferences” and how they can either help or hinder your walk in Torah.

Moving to verse 22, he encourages husbands and wives to understand the roles of marriage as outlined by Elohim.

Rabbi Berkson carefully analyzes these passages to deepen your understanding of what Yahweh expects, guiding you to fulfill these expectations and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah—what’s the connection? This series is based on the “Two Great Commands’: loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

Continuing with Ephesians 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson highlights how Messiah Yeshua clarified the scriptural meaning of “love your neighbor as yourself” by adding, “love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

What does it truly mean to be ‘walking in darkness’?

How can Yahweh see that you hold Him in importance? What institution has He given us that serves as a model for these relationships?

How are love and time interconnected, and what exactly is a “generational curse”?

Rabbi Steve shares several personal stories to illustrate common issues we all face as we navigate our vertical and horizontal relationships. Once again, Rabbi Berkson breaks down these passages to deepen your understanding of what Yahweh expects so you can fulfill it and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Continuing in Ephesians 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson reveals the “two main areas of our existence.” This concept has much to do with the meaning of our existence and how we treat each other, according to scripture.

From verse 13, the word “reprove” or “convicted” is further defined, at the request of many.

What are the fruits of darkness? (verse 11)

What did Paul mean when he wrote, “wake up, you who sleep”? (verse 14) To whom was he referring? How does one do that? How can you know if you’re one of those who need to wake up?

How does Elohim expect us to walk before Him? (verse 15) Rabbi Berkson clarifies what it means to walk “exactly.”

To what are we compared if we do or don’t “walk exactly”? Many ask Rabbi Berkson if he would take them “deeper” in their walk. Their definition of “deeper” is somewhat different, so he corrects and redefines what “deeper” really means.

Do you know when you actually have a problem or just an undesirable challenge? Rabbi Berkson brings much-needed wisdom to this topic that just might give you some relief.

Do you know what the phrase “redeem the time” refers to?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

In Ephesians 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues teaching us how to love each other. Stopping at verse 1, he expounds on becoming imitators of Elohim as dear children.

In verse 2, we are exhorted to walk in love as the Messiah also loved us, giving ourselves to others as a gift to Elohim. Do you want to send up a “sweet-smelling aroma” to Yahweh? Learn to serve others.

In verses 3 and 4, we see a list of behaviors that should not even be named among the Body of Messiah. Rabbi Berkson takes some time to clarify one of those behaviors – uncleanness.

• What do these behaviors have to do with loving each other?

In verse 5, there is something we are expected to know – what is it we should know? Why should we know it?

In verse 6, Rabbi Berkson asks why Paul would write about “empty words”. What are they? Why are we cautioned about them? How have some teachers misconstrued the meaning of “empty words”? How do they affect our inheritance in the Kingdom of Elohim?

In verses 7-10, Rabbi Berkson asks, “Who are you trying to please?”

Continuing our journey through the second of the Two Great Commands, ‘love your neighbor’, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to Luke 6:38, where we see Messiah Yeshua continuing to show the contrast between what Rabbi Berkson calls “the Below” and “the Above”. He points out that in order to please the Father, you must be aligned with “the Above”.

A component of loving Yahweh and your neighbor is giving. What does that mean, though? Rabbi Berkson clarifies how, when, and why to give. He also points out an incentive to give, noting that whatever we give will be returned, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Rabbi Berkson uses his trip to a Baskin-Robbins™ ice cream store to make the point.

In Luke 6:39-40, Messiah Yeshua tells a parable about the blind leading the blind. Rabbi Berkson cautions about where and from whom you get your information as you walk in Torah observance. There’s a lot of misinformation out there that presents itself with authority.

In verse 41, Yeshua teaches about the plank in your eye and the splinter in your brother’s eye. Rabbi Berkson explains how some people take Torah knowledge and use it as a weapon to try to “help” others with their walk. “Correction can only happen correctly in the right relationship.”

Then in Luke 6:47-49, Rabbi Berkson tells us that our lives are like building a house. Are we building on the correct foundation, or without one? The key is whether or not we are listening to and doing the words of Messiah.

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Rabbi Steve Berkson would like to introduce Mr. William Jackson to the MTOI family. Among his many abilities and talents, Mr. Jackson assists Rabbi Berkson with administrative tasks, sings in the Praise Team, and is an accomplished speaker and teacher.

In the Gospel of John, chapter 15, Messiah Yeshua gave His disciples final instructions before His execution by the occupying Romans. He told them emphatically, “Stay in Me,” because they could do nothing on their own (John 15:4).

What does it mean to “stay in” Messiah? How do we stay connected to Him? Why is it so hard to stay in Him? Why is it so important to stay in Him?

To connect the concept of “Stay in Me,” Mr. Jackson takes us to Matthew chapter 25 and expounds on the two parables the Messiah taught there – the Ten Virgins and their lamps and oil, and the man who gave his servants his possessions to invest while he was on a trip. Mr. Jackson offers insights into these parables that few have heard before.

You will be encouraged and strengthened by this powerful teaching.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Continuing our journey into the second of the Two Great Commands, ‘love your neighbor’, Rabbi Steve Berkson turns to Luke 6:20, where he examines the event known as the Sermon on the Mount. Messiah teaches His disciples, contrasting life in this world (the below) with life in the heavens (the above).

• Do you feel blessed when others mistreat you because of your faith in the Messiah?

• Are you able to look ahead to the joy that is coming? Can you practice delayed gratification?

• How can it be a bad thing when people speak well of you? What people?

• How is it possible to love your enemy as the Messiah taught us to? Were you ever an “enemy of Elohim”? Didn’t He love you when you were in that state?

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Some of the topics covered in this teaching:

• John 14:12 – Messiah Yeshua says, “He who believes in Me will also do the works that I do, and even greater works he shall do because I go to my Father.” What “works” is Messiah referring to?

• John 14:13 – Can someone ask for something ‘in His Name (authority)’ if that one is outside the authority of Messiah?

• John 14:16-17 – Do you understand correctly what this “Helper” and the “Spirit of Truth” are? Is it another being?

• How does the Christian organization “Mock Messiah” without actually intending to?

• What is the one thing that defines those who are part of the Body of Messiah?

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’: love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Key topics include:

• How does Messiah’s statement, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,’ relate to Torah observance?

• What role does ‘to know’ play in your relationship with the Creator and others?

• What truly defines being a disciple? Is it merely a student/teacher dynamic?

• Does Messiah align with your expectations? Does Yeshua fit your paradigm of Messiah? Is the Creator what you think He should be? And what about the Holy Spirit, your leadership, or teachers? Do your preconceptions influence how you perceive their interaction with you and humanity?

• Has current worldly life disturbed your shalom/peace? Have you studied your Bible to understand what lies ahead in challenging times? When you entered into a covenant with the Creator, did you understand what that entailed?

• What does it mean when someone says, ‘He knows my heart…’ about the Creator? Rabbi Berkson shares his pet peeve to shed light on this. Rabbi Berkson revisits these passages to help deepen your understanding of Yah’s expectations, guiding you to fulfill them and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

How does the Creator define our relationship with Him? Continuing in John chapter 15, Rabbi Steve Berkson explores the ‘Love/Hate’ aspects of our walk. Rabbi Berkson points to verse 18, where the Messiah, out of love, tells His disciples and us that if He was hated and rejected by the world, then we would be hated and rejected too.

Why would “the world” hate you?

What or who is “the world”?

What does the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, have to do with us and “the world”?

Then, moving into John chapter 14, Rabbi Berkson clarifies what Yeshua meant when He said, “I go to prepare a place for you…” You should be very excited when you hear what Rabbi Berkson has to say about that.

Once again, Rabbi Berkson breaks down these passages to help you gain a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah—what’s love got to do with it? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’: loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

What does John 15 reveal about Yah’s kingdom structure?

How does John 15 connect to Genesis 1’s creation account?

What was the first instruction given to humanity?

When Yeshua told His disciples to keep His commands, which ones did He mean?

Did Messiah add to Torah?

In John 15:15, Yeshua told His disciples they are no longer servants but friends. What is the difference between a servant and a friend? How do we define ‘friend’? Since Messiah said this to His disciples, how does it apply to us today?

Rabbi Berkson carefully analyzes these passages again to help you better understand what Yah expects of you—so you can do it and receive His blessings.

Beginning this teaching in John 15:5, Rabbi Steve Berkson explains what Messiah Yeshua meant when He was exhorting His disciples to “stay in Me and He in them,” and how that statement could also be understood as, “if you are in covenant with Me.” Without the Spirit of Messiah (His intrinsic nature) in us, it is impossible to be in covenant with Him and His Father.

• What is Covenantal Fruit?

Moving on, Rabbi Berkson expands on a crucial point for developing a correct mindset when dealing with those around us, centered on the phrase “he is broken off and thrown away.” This leads him into passages in Matthew 13 and Romans 11 that were not in his notes.

• What is the role for the Kingdom that surpasses all of our ‘pay grades’?

• Is your being considered a “darnel” or a “tare” predestined?

• Do you hold preconceptions about what leadership should look or sound like? What’s the danger in that?

Rabbi Berkson does a “reset” of a ‘faith idea’ most of us have been taught throughout our lives, specifically the notion of “ask whatever you wish and it shall be done for you.” What is the terrible word that precedes the Messiah’s statement about ‘asking’?

Toward the end of the teaching, what started as a side note turned into an inspiring life-coaching moment as Rabbi Berkson discussed being unequally yoked, then shifted focus to those who are single and looking for a mate.

A must-watch! Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages to give you a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah—what’s the link? This series focuses on the “Two Great Commands”—loving Yahweh and your neighbor.

While many groups claim to believe in the Creator and His Messiah, they often hold differing views. Everyone agrees love is vital, but what does it look like in practice? What actions does it involve? In this series, Love & Torah, Rabbi Steve Berkson offers straightforward biblical insights into these questions.

After finishing his study of Psalm 119, which highlights loving Elohim, Rabbi Berkson now turns to how to love others. The Gospel of John, chapter 15, serves as an ideal starting point, as Messiah Yeshua uses agricultural metaphors to teach His disciples about the relationship He desires among believers.

• What is the “gap” between the Gardener and the Vine?
• What does pruning mean? How does it relate to you?
• If Messiah Yeshua calls Himself the “True Vine,” could there be false vines?
• Why did Messiah Yeshua say, “Stay in Me”?
• Why does verse 15:3 mention being clean because of the Word?
• What is a direct download from the Ruach?
• Do you need to pray before doing anything?
• What is “Vertical Awareness”?

Rabbi Berkson once again analyzes these passages in detail, helping you gain a deeper understanding of what Yah expects and how you can fulfill it to receive blessings.

Love and Torah—what’s the connection? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’—loving Yahweh and loving your neighbor.

In Psalm 119, starting from verse 159, Rabbi Steve Berkson reveals a ‘truth’ in King David’s repeated pleas to Elohim to “revive” him because he loves Elohim’s commandments. Do you feel the need for revival?

Romans 10:4 mentions that “Messiah is the end of the Law for righteousness…” in some translations, but does this imply the Law’s end, or does the word ‘end’ have a different meaning?

Does ‘forever’ truly mean forever? Rabbi Berkson challenges the idea of forever, explaining his perspective.

Daily life provides evidence that the Brit Hadasha (New Testament) is true—do you know what these signs are?

As you strive to become like Messiah Yeshua, what is the most influential factor in your life?

Rabbi Berkson again carefully analyzes these passages to deepen your understanding of what Yah expects, so you can act accordingly and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s the connection? This study series is centered around the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Psalm 119, verse 150, continues this teaching, where Rabbi Steve Berkson explains that those who pursue mischief have a different agenda than Yahweh and are far from His Torah. These individuals lack an intimate relationship with The Creator. They may outwardly do what is right, but their hearts are far from Him.

Rabbi Berkson also explores the distinction between “mercy” and “grace/favor,” providing a clear understanding of these terms.

King David, the psalmist, wrote about those who “have not sought Your Laws” and called them “the wrong ones.” Do you seek His Laws?

Lashon Hara, Hebrew for “evil tongue,” is a term many people are familiar with but may be confused about its true meaning. Rabbi Berkson delves into the meaning of this term and its impact on your life and the lives of those around you.

Rabbi Berkson offers some of the best life coaching available as he explores the intricate world of human relationships, including dating, marriage, and raising children. He highlights relationship attributes such as “default expectancy” and “understood expectancy,” helping you understand how these attributes can affect you.

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages, providing a deeper understanding of what Yahweh expects of you, enabling you to fulfill His expectations and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This series explores the “Two Great Commands’: love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Focusing on our hearts and minds towards the Creator and His Torah, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues our journey through King David’s writings in Psalm 119. Starting at verse 145, he highlights how David links petitioning God with explaining why we seek His help and why we believe He should answer. Rabbi Berkson questions whether, when we call out to the Almighty, “Answer me,” we can honestly say, “I observe Your laws.”

The Creator initially made us to receive from Him. Through faith in Messiah Yeshua and living righteously, we become a ‘new creature’ that moves from earthly, basic things to heavenly ones. This ‘new creature’ learns to be a ‘giver,’ like the Almighty.

What do Jews and Christians agree on? What does Yahweh desire from you?

Rabbi Berkson again breaks down these passages to deepen your understanding of Yahweh’s expectations, so you can fulfill them and receive His blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Moving forward in Psalm 119, Rabbi Steve Berkson has a few questions for us;

When you see people not guarding the Torah, what is your reaction? (Psalm 119:136)

What if you never got to see what happens to those who don’t listen to Elohim? (Psalm 119:138)

How has Christianity confused us regarding “salvation”?

Why did Elohim allow all that horrible stuff to happen to Job?

Why do you want eternal life? Are you trustworthy with it? Do you really understand what that life will be like?

What is Yahweh’s “Love Language”?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

No one understood the connection between Love and Torah better than King David. Yahweh referred to him as the man after Yahweh’s own heart. As we continue going through Psalm 119 we see him talking about his love for Torah, how much he values and cherishes the commandments of Yahweh.

What did King David mean when he wrote, “Your witnesses are wonders…”?

If you are in covenant with Yah, how could wickedness have rule over you?

Jeremiah 31:31 – The Covenant – new or renewed?

How are you like a teenager to Yahweh?

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

As we continue to look at King David, the man after Yahweh’s own heart, and his writings starting in Psalm 119:126, Rabbi Steve Berkson teaches us verse by verse to understand the emotions and thoughts King David experienced to cause him to write them down. As we understand, we can apply these emotions and thoughts to our lives. After all, it’s through our experiences that Yahweh ‘makes us to understand.’

Every organization, corporation, state, country, etc. has a vertical structure with someone or something at the top and those under who are subject to the level above and responsible for those who are under. The Kingdom of Messiah has the same kind of vertical structure. This is necessary for the smooth and functional operation of the forward movement of the Kingdom. This vertical Kingdom structure is in place right now and everyone within the structure should know and understand their function.

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

This episode from the beginning of Sukkot starts with Rabbi Steve Berkson taking us to the passage in the Gospel of John, chapter 7, where we see Yeshua Messiah standing up at the day called Shemini Atzerat which finishes the feast, declaring Himself to be the Waters of Life. Rabbi Berkson points out that Messiah said “Anyone who thirsts…” – but does everyone get to drink?

From there Rabbi Berkson takes us to John 4:5-15, the story of the woman at the well, where Messiah Yeshua offered Living Water to her and also declared to her, one of only two people, that He was the Messiah.

Rabbi Berkson points out the time of day this happened from which he brings a “deeper understanding” as to what the time of day had to do with the story which was the sixth hour of the day. What could be the “hour of man”?

From there we go back to Psalm 119, but before he gets into that Rabbi Berkson gives instruction and encouragement in regards to studying the Word. It matters not how you do it – just do it, the way you do it.

Then going into Psalm 119 starting in verse 114, Rabbi Berkson reminds us the purpose of taking this psalm verse-by-verse is that you would place yourself in the shoes of King David. You should feel what he felt through the words he wrote. Then you should apply the same love for Torah and place the same value and importance to your walk as he did.

Who are the “evil-doers”? How does the Scripture define evil? Rabbi Berkson shows us plainly. Who or what are the “witnesses”? Rabbi Berkson expounds how these impact our lives.

As we explore Psalm 119, we begin this episode in verse 99 and ask the question, Why would you love the Torah? Rabbi Steve Berkson lists the reasons for giving your love and life to the Torah of Yahweh.

Why would King David say that he’s smarter than his teachers? What teachers?

Did King David have a problem with arrogance? Do you?

What does it mean to “restrain my feet”? Doesn’t Satan cause me to do wrong? How do you picture Satan, the devil? Would you recognize that creature if it were before you?

How does our Creator define evil? How do humans define evil? Do the definitions match?

In what way will living in the Millennium be harder for some? What will be taken away from humans once haSatan is bound for a thousand years?

Continuing in Psalm 119, the question Rabbi Steve Berkson asks of you is, as you read the writings of King David can you feel and think the same way he did? The reason King David has been referred to as a man after Yahweh’s own heart is that King David let the same mind as Yahweh be in him, as the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians – “let this mind be in you that was also in Messiah Yeshua.”

Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

Continuing in Psalm 119, Rabbi Steve Berkson shows us from the writings of King David the love he had and expressed toward the Law/Torah. As we look at King David’s writings, what becomes apparent is the range of emotions he expresses toward Yahweh and His commandments, statutes and ordinances. Rabbi Berkson shows how to see ourselves in the actions and feelings of those we read and hear about in the scriptures. Love and Torah – what’s love got to do with it? This study series is based on the “Two Great Commands” – love Yahweh and love your neighbor.

As he begins this lesson, Rabbi Steve Berkson explains that in the Christian world, it is just love and no Torah, and then asks the question, “What does that look like?” He explains that your expression of love toward the Creator is submission, as Messiah Yeshua said, “If you love me, keep my commands.”

What does the movie Charlie & the Chocolate Factory have to do with the Kingdom of Elohim?

Rabbi Berkson then turns to Psalm 119 to show us the heart of King David and what he wrote about his love for the Torah of Yahweh. Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, so that you can do it and receive the blessings.

In John 11:4 we see the event where a friend of Yeshua, Lazarus, is on his death bed and Yeshua says that His Father will receive honor in what happens. Rabbi Steve Berkson brings this event into your life today by pointing out that something you may be going through looks to be hopeless, but to hang on and stay strong, for when you come out of your situation you’ll be able to bring honor to your Heavenly Father.

What is the one vital thing that you should embrace from all your learning about and understanding of the scriptures and stories in our Bible?

Then in John 12:20-26 Yeshua says, “If anyone serves Me, the Father shall value him.” By the definition we’ve learned about the word honor, we know that to value someone or something is another form of honoring that someone or something. What does it look like to you to ‘serve’ someone? What does it mean to “hate” your life?

What qualified Yeshua to be able to teach with authority? Under who did He disciple? This is the question that the First-Century religious authority asked Yeshua right after He healed someone in a synagogue on Shabbat, as we find in the book of John chapter 7.

Yeshua informs them that He has been discipled of His Father, something they could not understand or accept. They then attempt to publicly shame Yeshua.

Moving into chapter 8, verse 12, we find Messiah Yeshua again teaching in the Temple and the Pharisees again coming to Him in an attempt to again publicly shame Him. Yeshua continues to proclaim what and who He is, giving honor to His Father.

The way Yeshua received honor from His Father is something that we can do also today–what is it? (John 8:29)

John 8:32 is mostly quoted and taught as a self-standing verse, “and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” However, this verse starts with the word ‘and’–what proceeds is vitally important, what is it?

There are others who teach this subject from a historical perspective, but what does the concept of honor and shame mean to you today?

When you interact with others, do you even think about what is honorable or shameful?

How can you apply honor and shame when in this Western Culture, morality has taken such a beating.

The definition of right and wrong, good and bad, honor and shame seems to be shifting sand. There is no longer a conventional understanding/agreement as to these concepts. Thankfully, there is a rock that has always been there, providing stability and direction for the human condition.

In this series of teachings, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings understanding and clarity to the subject of Honor and Shame from the principles and examples that can be found in the owner’s manual for this life–the Word of the Creator.

Moving into the letter to the Hebrews chapters 7-9, a comparison or contrast of not only the two priesthoods, Levitical and Melchizedekian, begins to be made, but also a comparison of the two temples–earthly and heavenly.

Then, arriving at the key verse that has to do with the Covenant, 7:22, Rabbi Steve Berkson proposes a better, more understandable translation and interpretation of the Greek behind the English.

Rabbi Berkson points out a significant revelation regarding the thought that the Torah and Covenant was “weak” and “earthly” which is that they were not what was weak or earthly, but rather, it was the human-beings that were operating within the Torah and Covenant. You will not hear that on a Sunday!

If you’ve ever been told that the Book of Hebrews is just too hard to understand, then you definitely should watch this episode. Rabbi Berkson breaks down verse by verse, passage by passage, passionately relating the revealed meanings so that you understand and benefit.

Questions:

• What does New York pizza have to do with the Covenant?

• What are the “necessary adjustments” that were made regarding the two priesthoods?

• How can Messiah Yeshua serve as a High Priest since He is not of the correct lineage?

• The Torah cannot perfect anything?

• In what way was the Torah (Law) “weak”?

• In what way is the “new covenant” better? Better than what?

• Verse 28 talks about an “oath” relating to the Torah–in what proximity was this oath?

• Why are some words in the Bible italicized?

• Some say that because we don’t have a Levitical Priesthood in place today, tithing is no longer necessary–is this true?

Continuing the journey in the Book of Hebrews towards the key verse, chapter 7, verse 22, where it talks about Messiah Yeshua being a guarantor of a “better covenant”, Rabbi Steve Berkson begins this episode in chapter 6 to provide more context building up to the understanding of The Covenant.

Picking up from where he left off in the last episode, 6:4-6, Rabbi Berkson finds a nugget of gold in verses 7-8 as it talks about ground, rain, plants and tilling, which leads him to John 15 and Matthew 13 as they connect with those things and how they relate and apply to our own lives.

Then, moving on through chapter 6, we look at “eagerness vs. sluggishness” and how it relates to belief and patience. Rabbi Berkson coins a phrase “eagerness shift”. Have you experienced this in your walk?

If you’ve ever been told that the Book of Hebrews is just too hard to understand, then you definitely should watch this episode. Rabbi Berkson breaks down verse by verse, passage by passage, passionately relating the revealed meanings so that you understand and benefit.

Questions:

• Hebrews 6:7-8, what is the ground and who does the tilling?

• Why would Yeshua tells his disciples to “stay in Him”?

• What happens to “thorns and thistles” or a branch that is no longer a part of the tree?

• John 15:11, has joy been done away with?

• Who is the “Tiller of the Ground”?

• What is an “eagerness shift”?

• Hebrews 6:19 talks about an “anchor of the life”–what does an anchor do?

Now we understand and should try to relate to the First-Century audience as the author of the letter makes the case for Messiah Yeshua’s place in the “big picture” and in the lives of the individuals as their standard of lifestyle was about to go away–the destruction of the Temple by the Romans and the suspension of the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood.

With that said we now go into chapter five where the author explains the differences between the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood and the Melchizedekian priesthood.

Then from chapter five Rabbi Steve touches on chapter six where we see a passage that has perplexed many, verses 4 through 6, specifically the word ‘impossible’. Does the passage tell us that some are doomed to destruction with no return?

If you’ve ever been told that the Book of Hebrews is just too hard to understand, then you definitely should watch this episode. Rabbi Berkson breaks down verse by verse, passage by passage, passionately relating the revealed meanings so that you understand and benefit.

Questions:

• If Messiah Yeshua takes on the role of High Priest (Heb 3:1) and does not qualify for the Aaronic – Priesthood, how can He be in that role?

• What “perfected” Messiah Yeshua? What do we struggle with?

• How does one become “dull of hearing”? What does it mean to be “dull of hearing”?

• What are “dead works”?

This exciting episode begins the letter to the Hebrews. The goal of going through this letter is to get to chapter 7 and verse 22 where it speaks of Yeshua being the guarantor of a “better covenant”. What does this mean and hasn’t it caused a lot of trouble due to mainstream Christianity’s interpretation of this verse? But, in order to do that, Rabbi Steve Berkson starts us on the journey from the beginning of the letter in order to understand, through context, what the author is saying leading up to chapter 7.

If you’ve ever been told that the Book of Hebrews is just too hard to understand, then you definitely should watch this episode. Rabbi Berkson breaks down verse by verse, passage by passage, passionately relating the revealed meanings so that you understand and benefit.

Questions:

• Why was the letter to the Hebrews written? What was going on at that time?

• What happens when the structure of your way of life no longer exists?

• Where does Messiah Yeshua fit into the picture of what was happening at that time?

• What perishes and what remains?

• Does the letter to the Hebrews talk about transitioning to a different set of laws?

• Hebrews 4:10 talks about resting from one’s own works–what could this mean?

Moving forward from last week, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us into Romans chapters 11 and 12, then to Ephesians chapter 2, where he interprets the writing of the apostle Paul quite a bit differently than most of us have ever heard taught before.

Because of this, Rabbi Steve clarifies further his position on the understanding of “grace” or favor, specifically whether it is merited or unmerited. Could it be both? In this message we see the beauty of the kindness and faithfulness of our Creator as He offers the opportunity to enter into His Covenant even though we have done nothing up to that point to deserve it.

Questions:

• Romans 10:17 talks of “hearing by the Word of God”, is there an underlying message that is lost in the translation?

• What exactly is the “Good News”?

• What is the “disease” we see in the Bible from start to finish?

• All people before Acts 2 could not be “righteous” because they didn’t have the Holy Spirit? • Can you empty yourself?

As he continues in Romans chapters 10 and 11, Rabbi Steve Berkson has received some clear insight on a couple of troublesome verses. Understanding the context of the letter to the Roman assembly is the key, as he explains in the first part of this teaching. Not only the context in this letter, but also, context from the Tanakh as the apostle Paul references it time and time again to establish his points. Context is critical to gaining the correct understanding and interpretation, especially when it has to do with the writings of Paul.

Questions:

– When the word ‘saved’ or ‘delivered’ is used, is it clearly understood, ‘saved’ or ‘delivered’ from what? Does it refer to a future event?

– What does it mean to be “sent”? Isn’t there a “Great Commission” on all of us?

– Some teach that Israel has been “replaced” because God is done with them–is that true?

– What is pre-destination, divine selection and being chosen? Are they one and the same?

– What is it that a Gentile has that a Jew would be jealous of?

After understanding the first issue the apostle Paul was addressing in Romans which was how the “law” applied (or not) to the Gentiles who were being drawn to this faith, Rabbi Steve Berkson now unpacks the second issue, understanding what law Paul is referring to, by going to chapters 5 through 8.

Why was Messiah Yeshua “delivered up” and then “raised”?

Is Yahweh “obligated” to us?

What is the one thing on which Jews and Christians agree?

Is the apostle Paul teaching his congregation against circumcision of the flesh? Is “circumcision of the heart” a concept exclusive to the New Testament?

This teaching is particularly challenging for the teacher and for the listener/disciple because of how the apostle Paul chose to word his thoughts in this letter to the beloved, set-apart ones in Rome.

Taking us into Romans, chapters 4 and 5, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings clarity to this problematic text through context (who is speaking, to whom is the speaking directed, when, why and where), redefining terminology (circumcision/uncircumcision to covenanted/not covenanted), and by moving slowly through the text, not glossing over any phrase or passage.

In the face of 2,000 years of twisted teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson asserts that the apostle Paul was not teaching that the Torah had been “done away with.” Rabbi Berkson proposes that the word “law” must be clarified so that we can achieve a better understanding of what Paul wrote.

In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson begins to analyze the book of Romans from start to finish, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, to answer the question, “Are You Covenanted?”

Continuing with Paul’s Corinthian congregation, in his second letter he reaffirms his leadership and authority under Messiah (2 Cor 3:1). Consider that the congregates were primarily Jewish under a system that built fences around the Torah and who knew the Torah from a “letter of the law” perspective in contrast to the new teaching about the “spirit of the law”.

In this message to the Body of Messiah, Rabbi Steve Berkson breaks down some of the difficult concepts from the apostle Paul that are misunderstand and, therefore, misquoted by many to declare that the law (Torah) has been abolished.

In one of his letters to the Corinthians Paul talks about the cup that Yeshua gave to his disciples and said, this is my blood of the renewed covenant. (1 Cor 11:25) Why was Paul talking about this cup? What does it have to do with the covenant? What was the issue in his congregation?

What does “immersed into Mosheh (Moses)” mean?

The faith/belief/trust we as humans profess in something that is greater than ourselves ultimately boils down to relationship. This relationship is being one with our Creator, our Father and our Messiah, in the context of or vehicle known as “covenant.” For this reason, to learn about this covenant is critical to the health of the relationship both vertical (with the Creator) and horizontal (with each other).

In this episode Rabbi Steve Berkson lays out more to learn from Proverbs chapter 5 as it pertains to wisdom, understanding and knowledge in keeping covenant with our Creator.

The prophet Jeremiah was given some severe words to speak to the people concerning how they were behaving while being in covenant with their Elohim. They were living in the land and claiming Yahweh to be their Elohim yet, at the same time, living according to the idolatry of the nations around them, but thinking they were doing it unto Yahweh. Yahweh said no more! “Why should my beloved be in my house? She has done wickedness with many.” (Jeremiah 11:15)

Rabbi Steve Berkson points out from the warnings of Jeremiah that loving the world and being in covenant with Yahweh is impossible. You will have to hate one and love the other.

Going forward, Rabbi Berkson digs deep into the metaphor of the olive tree with its branches getting broken off and other branches grafted in beginning in Jeremiah 11:16 and moving into Romans 11 and John 15.

In part 9 of “Are You Saved?”, we read through James (Ya’akov) chapter 2 and now understand that faith/belief and works are intertwined so that one without the other cannot exist.

In this lesson, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to the book of Hebrews, chapters 11 and 12 to show us proof by examples that “by belief/faith” those “heroes” that came before us were inspired by “salvation” to exemplify their belief/faith with their works.

What is meant by “the substance of what is expected, and the proof of what is not seen”?

How did Moses see Him who is invisible? (Heb 11:27)

If our walk of faith is compared to a running a race to receive a prize, how does today’s society ruin that analogy? (Heb 12:1)

How does the Father keep us on the right path?

If “grace” is the “unmerited favor” of Elohim, how can one fall short of it?

In Matthew 24:12 Yeshua taught that because of the increase in lawlessness, the love of many will become cold–what is the love that’s connected to the Law (Torah)?

When Yeshua said, “But he who shall have endured to the end…”–what is meant by “to the end”?

Moving from there to the parable of the talents, Matthew 25:13-29, Rabbi Steve Berkson explains the idea of possessing and not possessing, entering into the joy of the Master, and how critically connected these concepts are to salvation, belief and works.

Rabbi Steve then takes us to the second chapter of James (Ya’akov) where we see a direct connection of belief in Messiah Yeshua to works. What is it that Ya’akov calls the “Law of freedom”? Does a person’s “belief” save them?

Teaching further on the topic of guarding the Torah and possessing the Witness, Rabbi Steve takes us to Luke 10:25 to look at Messiah Yeshua tested by someone considered as “learned.” Here, the word “inherit” is connected to eternal life. What does this mean? How does it bring a critical understanding to being “saved”?

In this passage, we also see the question, “What must I do…”; how did Yeshua respond? Is salvation through Messiah the same as receiving eternal life?

Finally, in Luke 8, we find the parable of the Seed and the Sower. Rabbi Steve takes us backward through Yeshua’s explanation of this parable to understand it uniquely.

If the “soil” is symbolic of the heart of a person, are people locked into the type of “soil” they find themselves to be, or can people choose the kind of “soil” they would like to be?

To what is the “fruit” referring?

What is the key word most people overlook when reading about “good soil”?

In your excitement about discovering the truth of Torah, was your first reaction running to tell your family and friends all about it? Rabbi Steve gives some crucial advice on how to avoid being blown out when starting your Torah-observant life.

Rabbi Steve continues to unpack and expand the understanding of this vital relationship between salvation, faith/belief and works through scripture.

Messiah Yeshua said, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate…” (Luke 13:24). Do salvation and reward require effort? What is that effort? To where does the narrow gate lead?

What does the saying mean, “Our righteousness is as filthy rags”?

In Acts 16:30, someone asked, “What do I have to do to be saved?” How are we saved?

Do we ‘need’ the writings of Paul, Peter, or the other writers of the New Testament? Can a person lead another to the narrow path that leads to the Kingdom of Elohim without those writings?

What should be the correct order of reading and better understanding the books of the New Testament?

In Matthew 19:16-22 we see Yeshua telling a man to sell what they own and follow Him, but he went away sad because he had great possessions…what are you attached to that would keep you from wholly following the Messiah? Possessions? Family? Friends? Job? Career? What is it you love more than Him?

Rabbi Steve Berkson continues to clarify the relationship between salvation, faith/belief, and works.

Rabbi Steve Berkson focuses on the topic of “Who Shall be Saved?”, as he takes us to the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 13. There we find the parable Yeshua taught about “The Wheat and the Tares” – which was meant to describe two types of people within the congregation of Elohim.

How do we know today who is which? Does that responsibility rest on us? If Elohim knows about this (He does), why does He allow it? What will be done and when? By whom?

From there Rabbi Steve moves to Paul’s letter written to those who were in Rome–those who’s eyes and ears were opened and whose hearts were ready to receive–those who should know better. In chapter 11 Paul begins by posing the question, “Has God rejected His people?” Rabbi Steve points out that even then people were consumed with “Who gets in and who doesn’t”.

So much so that in chapter 11 we read Paul explaining the plan of Elohim through a metaphor using olive trees. What are the branches? What is the root? What is the real problem going on here?

This teaching is loaded with what you need for your daily walk and to understand more deeply the love of the Father toward you.

Has the One who chose a group of people from among a group of people and set them apart unto Himself rejected those people? Has now another group of people replaced them? Weren’t there promises made according to The Covenant that was made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Wasn’t there an expectation by the chosen people that those promises were for them?

What does the Prophet Ezekiel have to say about the chosen people? What are the “sticks and bones” in Ezekiel chapter 37 all about? What are the “graves?” How do they connect with something Yeshua Messiah said?

What is “the stuff before the then?”

Rabbi Steve Berkson unpacks all this and more here in part 4. He also reminds us that periodically we need to stop and evaluate where we are in our walk to determine if we’re on the right path or if we need to backup to where we made a wrong turn and get back into the right direction.

What’s wrong with Christianity? Aren’t there “good people” there? Most of us who are now in the Messianic Torah Observant community came from Christianity. Wasn’t there anything good we learned from being there?

Can’t we bring something over with us as we’ve transitioned to Torah observance?

Didn’t we consider ourselves as “saved” while under that system?

What deadly disease can the system of Christianity be compared to?

Rabbi Steve Berkson brings extremely important answers and perspective to these and many other thoughts and questions regarding “come out of her my people”, as well as “get her out of you my people”.

After a quick review of part 1, Rabbi Steve Berkson continues exploring the doctrine of “once saved, always saved” and the relationship between salvation, faith and works.

Rabbi Steve plays the little game called, “What if I had the power to live forever and could choose those with whom to live forever.” During the Pesach seder, the tradition of “The Four Cups” is performed–the four cups being Sanctification, Deliverance, Redemption and Acceptance, aka, “the “salvation process”.

In this teaching Rabbi Steve focuses on the last three cups. Deliverance–deliverance from what? The Law? Which law? Redemption–what is redemption? Who was redeemed and who was the redeemer? Acceptance–where do we see an acceptance by The Creator of a people? What did that look like? How do you know if you’ve been accepted? Is there an expectation by anyone to do something?

Do you really understand what it means to say “I’m saved!”? From what are you saved? How were you saved? When did this “salvation” happen? Now that you are “saved”, what more is there to do? Are you saved by “faith” or by “works”?

Can the dead come to life today? Rabbi Steve Berkson kicks this teaching off by taking you to Ephesians 2 where the Apostle Paul writes about the dead coming to life. This is also found in Colossians 3 where it reads, “If, then, you were raised with Messiah…”

Do you know what things to do to please your spouse? Are you doing what is pleasing to The Creator, in the way He intended? Rabbi Steve takes you to Matthew 22 to begin to understand what you need to do in order to please Abba. We see Yeshua quoting the “v’ahavta”, Deuteronomy 6:5-9, saying that we should love Yahweh with all of our mind. Also as is written in Philippians 2:5 that you “let this mind be in you that was also in Messiah Yeshua.” The word ‘let’ indicates a personal responsibility to allow this to happen.

In Romans 12 Rabbi Steve brings out that it is your “reasonable service” to renew your mind so that you will know how to please your Heavenly Father. Again, it is evident that it is your responsibility to do this as you are motivated by love–His for you and yours for Him.

Yeshua said, “take my yoke upon you”, referring to His teaching and discipleship. Rabbi Steve takes you to Luke 24 to make the point of discipleship under an anointed and appointed teacher being crucial to learning the correct way of thinking about how you walk out your faith.

Continuing the topic, “The Mind and Thinking of Man, and How It Relates to Authority”, Rabbi Steve Berkson once again redefines words and terms that have been lost to time and culture. Rabbi Steve takes us first to the Gospel of Matthew 16:21 where we see Yeshua telling His disciples how He would die and then be brought back to life. But Peter rebukes Him and Yeshua rebukes Peter back; was Peter demon-possessed?

• How is the thought process related to becoming an enemy of God?

Continuing, Rabbi Steve takes us to Romans 8 where he unpacks the writing of Paul in a way you probably have not heard before. Which “law” is being talked about? Is it always referring to the Torah?

• What is meant by “Spirit”? Is it a wispy, smoke-like thing that enters a human?

• Find out which verse is key to understanding that Yeshua Messiah died for the world.

Continuing the topic, “The Mind and Thinking of Man, and How It Relates to Authority”, Rabbi Steve Berkson takes us to Luke 8:5-18 and the parable of the Sower and the Seed. We know that the “seed” is the Word of God and the “soil” is our heart. Rabbi Steve teaches us about the “soil/heart” and how it interacts with the “seed/Word of God”, and how the way we think has a huge part in that interaction.

Are you submissive to the authority of the Word of God?

Why should you pay attention when the scriptures tell you to “take heed”?

Does the Holy Spirit teach you directly without a person, or do we need teachers today?

Rabbi Steve Berkson continues the topic, “The Mind and Thinking of Man, and How It Relates to Authority”. He begins by taking us to Matthew 10:34 with a warning, “Do not jump to conclusions!”

Did Yeshua Messiah come to bring “peace”? Many believe that is true, but what does Yeshua’s own words say? What did He mean when he said your family would become your enemy?

What is a “Delusion Bubble”? Most people live in one, do you?

How can “Binge Watching” teachings be harmful to your spiritual health?

How does the teaching that the Law (Torah) has been done away with, destroy our physical world?

Rabbi Steve Berkson continues the topic, “The mind and thinking of man, and how it relates to authority”. He begins in Matthew 3 where we see Yochanan (John), the immerser preaching and immersing the people. Rabbi Steve points out that it’s highly likely, Yochanan was the legitimate High Priest of his time, which is why the people were coming out to him.

We see the religious rulers of that time coming out to see what’s going on and Yochanan calls them out, saying, “Do not think to say to yourselves…”. They thought they didn’t need what Yochanan was doing because of their genealogy, being descendants of Abraham, they were alright. It’s a “thinking process” for bad or for good.

“We think, unfortunately, with our own agenda–we need to be thinking with His agenda–how do we take His agenda and turn it into actions, habits and Destiny?”

“We live according to His Word because of our love for him, our trust in Him, belief in Him–knowing that what we do is going to bring the rewards He has promised us.”

Rabbi Steve packs this teaching with concepts and principles that you can use right now in your walk.

Here in part 7 Rabbi Steve Berkson continues the topic, “The mind and thinking of man and how it relates (or doesn’t relate) to authority”. In this teaching you will discover those who are doing wrong, thinking they’re doing right, and not understanding why they have no peace. The admonition is to “think about what it is you’re thinking about!”

How do the curses from Deuteronomy 28 strengthen our faith?

What is an “Idea Evangelist”?

Isaiah 59:16 speaks of an “intercessor”–to whom is this referring?

Does Matthew 15 and Mark 7 say that Yeshua made all foods clean?

What exactly was the issue Yeshua was addressing?

In Genesis 6:5 we see that man’s thinking had devolved to “only evil continually” which caused the Creator to be grieved in His heart. What does this mean “grieved in His heart”? Yet, there was one man, Noach (Noah) who was “a righteous man, perfect in his generations” – what is that all about? What was the reason Noach and his family were put on the ark and ultimately saved from the destruction of the Flood?

In part 6 of What Are You Thinking Rabbi Steve Berkson helps us to explore “the mind and thinking of man and how it relates to authority”.

Rabbi Steve Berkson addresses the topic of “Yeshua knows our thoughts and our struggle with authority”.

We begin with the event where Yeshua healed a person by simply saying “Your sins be forgiven you”, which caused an uproar with the religious leaders of the time, accusing Yeshua of blasphemy. They could not accept the authority of Yeshua as Messiah because of their predisposed thinking of who the Messiah should be. Yeshua didn’t fit their paradigm.

What does “blasphemy” mean? Can just anyone commit “blasphemy”?

What is meant by “the reign (kingdom) of Elohim (God) has come upon you”?

Do you struggle with recognizing the authority of those you interact with?

Have you found the teacher or leader who is meant for you? He may not be according to your paradigm, but this is the reason you are here–to figure out whose authority you are under, your’s?, haSatan’s?, Yahweh’s?. Who do you think is in charge?

This teaching is full of practical application material that will definitely keep you on the path to the Kingdom.

Although Yahweh told a group of people that He chose them to be a select group for His purpose, there was a contingency attached, the “if/then” that we read about–“If you diligently obey my voice, then I will accept you as my people.” So, regardless of what is taught about “Jesus did it all”, did He really? Yeshua did what He had to do and none of what we need to do.

We still have a responsibility to hear and do what we are commanded and walk before Him in humility. The Spirit of Yeshua, the Ruach haKodesh will help us with the desire and ability.

After a review of part 1 where we left off in Jeremiah 4:14 “O Yerushalayim, wash your heart from evil, and be saved. Till when would your wicked thoughts remain within you?” and Rabbi Steve Berkson explains that their thoughts led to actions that caused Babylon to come.

Rabbi Steve then moves into Jeremiah 5 with the understanding that all that was happening to the people of Judah at that time was a result of “wrong thinking”.

Now, to apply this to us today the question is asked, “Are you seeking THE TRUTH, or are you seeking to justify that your perception of truth is right?”

How many times have you read the accounts detailed in scripture and said to yourself, “What were they thinking?” Even though hindsight is 20/20 and the examples can be seen in scripture, you could still be guilty of doing the same nonsense as they did.
