What if the very essence of masculinity, as we've been taught to understand it, is toxic? Is it possible that societal norms planted during our formative years may have rendered us emotionally repressed, aggressive, and avoidant of vulnerability?

We're advocating for radical honesty with self and personal growth, creating a safe harbor for vulnerability in relationships. Have you ever wondered why we often assume the worst in people or get defensive in conversations? It might be your ego talking. This episode is a deep dive into exploring the role of ego in our lives. We discuss how an inflated sense of self can hinder our compassion, encourage defensiveness, and even make us deny our accountability. But it's not all negative—sometimes, ego can result from our success, making it tricky to manage and control.

We also look into the role of ego in our relationships and how it can be a barrier to authenticity. The ego can prevent us from taking risks, making tough decisions, and connecting with people who could help us live more genuinely. It even convinces us to prioritize safety and comfort over personal growth. However, there's a flip side—when ambition and ego collide, it can lead to a relentless chase for success, trapping us in a cycle of constant striving and dissatisfaction.

Finally, we grapple with the paradox of ambition and ego. While ambition can fuel our desire for success, unchecked ego can distract us from the small, joyous moments along the journey. We invite you to join us in questioning whether the chase for success and the compromises we make for our ego-driven identities are worth it. This episode promises a reflective and enlightening exploration of the tricky balance between ego, ambition, and authenticity.

Being a parent isn’t easy, primarily when we don’t deal with our trauma and pain. Our parenting strategies can be nothing more than a passing of our pain - disguised as protection - if we aren’t aware. As kids, our parents’ judgments, assumptions, interpretations, and limiting beliefs (J.A.I.L.) are passed on to us as the truth. It is our job to assist our children in finding their truth; by allowing them to go through experiences that cultivate the resilience and perspective they need to move toward what they want.

Often, we look at a toxic environment and define it as something we have no control over. But the truth is, an environment - toxic or healthy - is composed of the relationships in it. These relationships are your choice. Whether you know it or not, you are the creator in every environment you decide to participate. So, whether in your work, romantic, or social relationships, you have complete control over how and with whom you spend your time. Your freedom is on the other side of a tough decision. And that decision ALWAYS includes the relationships with which you experience your life.

It is in the resolving of conflict and the releasing of self-judgment that we grow the most. So, if you feel stuck in your career, relationships, or how you think about yourself, it’s time to “TAKE IT OFF” and show up as your authentic self.

The “Take it Off” Podcast is co-hosted by Joshua A. Fields and Jeremy Rubin. As a master practitioner of the Energy Leadership Index with 15 years of executive leadership experience at a Fortune 10 company, Gold Level Associate Certified Coach (by the International Coaching Federation Standards) Joshua Fields has a proven track record of creating high-performing teams and environments for personal transformation. The mission is simple but not easy. It empowers people with the skills to see and accept themselves and others clearly and without judgment to live a more authentic life. So, if you’re ready to live with purpose and curiosity and to get clear on what you want for your life, join us weekly at the “Take it Off” Podcast.

You will hear concepts and ideas inspired by the coach training program Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC).
