Talking about life at life-savor.com

I made this short video for Ukraine a few years ago, shortly after they were attacked by Russia. The news hit me hard for about a week.

During that time, I went to listen to my daughter’s high school choir perform “The Star Spangled Banner” (among other moving songs). That night I got inspired to set Ukraine’s war footage to our own national anthem.

(Note: Melanie May is the singer I set this footage to. I love her version. It feels straightforward yet beautifully strained and breathy at just the right moments.)

We’re speaking with my mother, Christine Mikulasek.

For most of her life, she’s been a professional sculptor and nomadic adventurer.

We explore her life and life lessons over four episodes.

After covering her whole life, we take a step back to muse upon some Life Savor themes.  I think you’ll really enjoy this deep dive into observations about life.  Here’s a taste of some of our topics:

·         How our perspective changes as we age.

·         Discussion of our core self, and affection for our younger self.

·         Learning from pain

·         Expressing love

·         Dying with dignity

·         Selling our soul’s creations vs. shaping our soul just to sell

·         Defending against those who belittle our “fanciful” motivations

·         Refusing to waste our life and refusing to let others control our life

·         Fulfillment as a state of joy that comes from meaningfulness.

·         Doing what you want is a danger to society?

·         You’ll be okay if you’ve learned to love life.

·         Making the tapestry of your life beautiful for your own appreciation of it

We have a lot of juicy content to get into, so let’s dive right in.

We’re speaking with my mother, Christine Mikulasek.

For most of her life, she’s been a professional sculptor and nomadic adventurer.

We explore her life and life lessons over four episodes.

This episode covers my mother’s later and greater years, after the age of 40 when I finally leave the nest.  She’s definitely saved the best for last.  With a newfound sense of freedom, she hones her skills as a master portraitist and spends numerous years in Italy studying marble carving.  She’ll learn to fly a plane.  She’ll take cross country motorcycle trips with a Tom Selleck look-alike.  She’ll hook up with an Alaskan sea captain and find paradise in a Mexican casita near the ocean.  She’ll even discover a love of home and family.  This and much more on this episode of the Life Savor podcast.
