Her professional career began at Burroughs Welcome in Greenville, North Carolina and continued at First Union (now Wells Fargo) in downtown Charlotte. Upon graduating from Johnson C. Smith University, she continued this corporate journey at Bank of America. Passionate about education, she worked as a parental specialist liaison for Gaston County schools and transitioned into the IT department at Gaston College. In addition, Karen earned a masters degree in technology education. Professionally, Karen gives voice to the marginalized communities, helping organizations establish policies and governance to promote diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
Her mission is to inspire individuals to overcome fear and chase their dreams through soft skills and critical thinking.

Cheryl is a graduate at East Carolina University, where she also studied theater. Upon returning to the Greensboro Triad area to pursue various career opportunities, Cheryl exercised her talent in theater as a part of the Theatre Guild of Rockingham county. From improv, background vocals and actress, Cheryl has emerged herself in characters to help bring to life a number of Productions. During the interview, Cheryl talks about making the most of opportunities and being thankful for being given a chance to share her passion for acting with the world. Cheryl is a wife, mother, grandmother, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta, sorority Inc.
The African American Wellness Run & Walk was held in Charlotte, NC 2023. During the experience interviews were conducted with James Mitchell - "Charlotte City Council", Matiff Stanfield -"Dedicated Senior Medical Service", Deronda "Metz-Africa Tours & Fashion",Terrell Thibeaux-"Power House Next Generation", and Modesta Fogg- Classic Closet Boutique. As the president of EquityBridge, her company focuses on clinical trails which help to develop treatment plans for various health challenges faced by people of color. During the podcast, Dr. Harris shed light on the importance of African Americans in clinical trials, the impact of triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)among black women, and how scientific research advanced the process in finding a vaccine for Covid-19.

Our Veterans are important people. They made sacrifices to protect this country and keep everyone safe. Many soldiers never made it home and we must be forever grateful to them because they paid the ultimate price with their lives. By the grace of God, there are soldiers who survived and we were able to listen to their stories and experiences while serving in the armed services for our Memorial Day Special Edition.

David Anthoni welcomes Nicole Woods, the new head basketball coach of the UNC Wilmington Lady Seahawks to talk about her recent opportunity to take the helm of a college basketball program. Woods leaves the Lady 49ers where she was the recruiting coordinator and aided Charlotte in bringing home the 2021-22 Conference USA regular season and tournament championships and a bid into the NCAA tournament.
Woods played four seasons at Belmont Abbey (2002-06), where she blossomed into an NCAA Division II Bulletin Second-Team All-American, averaging 24.1 ppg, less than .01 ppg behind the national leader. Woods was also selected Carolina-Virginia Athletic Conference (now Conference Carolinas) Player of the Year after averaging 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists during her senior campaign.
Woods earned degrees in Accounting and Business Management at Belmont-Abbey and graduated in 2006 as the school’s fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,641 points. Her 676 markers in 2005-06 are a school record.
Woods, who was inducted into the Gaston Sports Hall of Fame in 2022, played professionally in England for the Nottingham Wildcats in 2007-08, leading the team in assists and ranking second in scoring.
DaGrip welcomes Melvin Burris CPR instructor to share some health safety tips as we approach the summer. Mr. Burris was born in Cleveland County and has lived in Gaston County for over 40 years. He is a graduate of Hunter Huss, class of 1982. Burris became a firefighter in 1987 with the Gastonia City Fire Department and retired as a fire inspector in 2016.
Burris graduated from Gaston College with an associate degree in Fire Science. He is also a graduate of the NC Fire Prevention school and a Level 3 public educator. He is a CPR/First Aid Instructor, Basic Life Support Instructor and a Fire Safety Instructor. Burris has been a mentor for Gaston County schools for over 25 years. He has been the president of the Upward Highland Foundation for 22 years and the chairman of the Gaston Highland Festival for 27 years. With 30 years of experience, Burris shares insights that help organizations especially churches build safe spaces.
Fifteen years ago, Lady Karen R. Williams authored Desperate Church Wives and shared the stories of women striving to expand the Kingdom. Today, many of those women's visions and prayers were heard by God and individuals are rejoicing from the manifestation. As the podcast unfolds, Lady Karen talks about her other books especially "Building Daisy."

Independent recording artist Chettie Martin releases her debut single entitled “Dwelling Place”. Since her early childhood, Chettie has used her melodious voice to uplift and encourage others. Accompanying her father to his preaching engagements, Chettie along with her siblings sang for the glory of God. As years passed, she desired to go further with her music career. Filled with emotions, one day God ministered to her heart igniting the paper with the lyrics of her debut single.
During the podcast, Chettie shares how personal struggles fueled a passion to pursue her dream. She hopes to build upon this single soon by completing a full album.

DaGrip welcomes Cynthia P. Stitt to the podcast for Women's History Month. Cynthia P. Stitt is an ordained minister, inspirational author, poet, songwriter, and stage-play writer. She became a licensed Minister in May of 2000 and was ordained in July 2006. She currently serves as the Youth Pastor at Mt. Zion Restoration Church in Gastonia, NC under the leadership of Pastor Rodney Freeman. She has two sons Joshua and Jalen and played an active role in caring for her Goddaughter Cearra Crawford Friday. She is a native of Gastonia, North Carolina.Cynthia graduated from Hunter Huss High School and then later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Master's Degree in Health Administration. Cynthia P. Stitt is a military veteran who reached the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force before returning to Gaston County to give back to her community. She is a certified Career, Life, Executive Coach, and Master Coach Trainer through Paradigm 360. She is the owner of VisionWorks Enterprise, LLC, and her non-profit C & J Creative Expression, Incorporated. Cynthia believes in perseverance and encourages others through her writing. Cynthia is an active member of the community, and she has a passion for Public Health, and she retired in June 2020 from the Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health and has received the honor as one of the 100 Distinguished Public Health Nurses of North Carolina. She currently works with Gaston Business Association as the Leadership Gaston Coordinator. She faithfully volunteers in the Highland Community at the Erwin Center where she works with a group of young men and women referred to as "My Sistahs and My Brothers." She works with the youth in the community with the goal to provide mentorships and support to the youth so that they will be empowered to accomplish life dreams with a focus on academic achievement, life skills, and character building. She has served the youth in the community for the past 25-plus years. She enjoys being a faithful volunteer on Thursday mornings with Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry at Mt. Zion Restoration Church. She has also served on several Community Executive and Advisory Boards in Gaston County. She serves the community faithfully with her sisters she holds so true in the Zeta Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated ®.Cynthia lives by the inspiring scripture "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" Philippians 4:13. She believes in God’s purpose and destiny for her life and encourages all she meets to live purposeful so that God is glorified.

DaGrip welcomes Rose Belk to the show. Rose Belk is a minister, recording artist, songwriter, and author. As a native of Pineville, North Carolina, she began singing as a small child and gave her life to Christ at the age of twelve. The youngest of eight children, she was most impressed by the love God has shown her. Her parents were very instrumental in this impression and encouraged her to use her God-given talent of singing to His Glory. From this, she recognized her foundation in Christ and her gift to sing.In 2000, Rose released her very first CD, My Song of Praise. Lakeisha Mobley was born and raised in Charlotte NC. She is ordained clergy in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and the mother of two sons. Lakeisha is the CEO of “It Startz With Me” a mentoring movement geared towards helping young girls ages 9 through 18 make sound decisions, better life choices and produce self-esteem so they may reach their full potential in life.
Along with 17 other women who have endured and overcame tremendous amounts of emotional abuse, constant disappointment, and heart-breaking betrayal, Lakeisha Mobley is a writer in the book entitled, “When the Soul Cries” and her contribution is entitled The High Price Tags. Lakeisha shares her reasons for being compelled to tell a transparent truth to help others win at life.
During the podcast, Lakeisha shares not only her success with her mentoring program; but also her passion for prison ministry. She knows she is just getting started and things can only go up through helping the least of these.

David Anthoni welcomes Karlease Smalls to share her insights on Black History month.Karlease is a native of New York but currently resides in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Karlease is a member of Zion Wesley AME Zion Church. Karlease started her nursing career as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Five Oaks Manor nursing home for four years. In December 2019, Karlease graduated from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences with her Associate Degree in Nursing.Karlease passed her boards and began working at Atrium Health Northeast Emergency Department February 2020. With many transitions in life, Karlease recently transferred to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Atrium Health. This past May she graduated from UNC Wilmington with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Her long term aspiration is to become a Nurse Anesthetist. Her biggest motivations in her life are her parents and her Angel sister.She is a member of the National Council of Negro Women. Karlease has a love for serving others and her community. Her favorite scripture she lives by is Jeremiah 29:11”For I know the plans I have for you, “says the Lord, “They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
After changing the culture in lockroom, wining games, and bringing a new energy back to the Carolinas, The Panthers snub Steve Wilks for the head coaching position. Meanwhile, David Anthoni leads the community to pray for the city of Memphis and pleads for peaceful protest.

She is a business operations & project management consultant through her business, 3E Project Solutions. The DaGrip welcomes Courtney Tate, author, and veteran educator to share with us her views on writing powerful stories to impact the lives of black and brown kids in America. Courtney is the owner of Courtney Tate Consulting, LLC; where she empowers others in building a better tomorrow.
Courtney walks us through her journey of journaling and manifesting those late-night notes into books. She is passionate about helping students fine their own path through self-identification and literature. With the country suffering with low test scores after COVID, she believes her books are one-way parents and students can make improvements. Her work can be found on Amazon as well as her own website. David Anthoni visits polling places in Gaston and Mecklenburg County encouraging others to cast their vote in the mid-term election.
David Anthoni welcomes Coach Nicole Woods of the Lady 49ers Basketball Team to the podcast. Woods, as a member of the coaching staff as well as in her own life, talked plainly about adversity. Through the conversation, Woods shared how the team faced some hard truths but realized as Mike Tomlin would say, "The Standard is The Standard". Woods affirmed the new season and the opportunity to reach postseason play again. Woods said we can do it, but we must work hard every day. She didn't shy away from her thoughts on the WNBA, her beloved Carolina Panthers, and the start of the new NBA season.

DaGrip welcomes Dr. Monte Witherspoon to the dialogue on "Education in America". Dr. Witherspoon shares how his story as a struggling student in elementary and middle school fueled his efforts to help all students become "high achievers". He gives credit to the teachers who refuse to let him fall through the cracks. During the dialogue, Witherspoon shares several strategies the faith community and parents can embrace to propel our students forward.
Dr. Monte Witherspoon is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the son of Reverend Vera Witherspoon and the late Douglas Brown. Reverend Witherspoon preached his initial sermon in 1994 at Steele Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Lancaster, South Carolina under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Marion R. Wilson.
Dr. Witherspoon attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. He graduated from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies. While at Livingstone College, he served as the President of the Student Government Association, National-Vice President of the Pre-Alumni Council of the United Negro College Fund, President of the Pre-Theolog Union, and member of the Board of Visitors.
Dr. Witherspoon furthered his education at the Morehouse School of Religion at The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia where he received a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling. While at The ITC, he was elected president of the Student Christian League (Student Government Association) and served an unprecedented two consecutive terms in succession of many profound pastors and community leaders across the United States. As president of Student Christian League, he developed several community programs in the greater Atlanta area. While in Atlanta, Georgia, Reverend Witherspoon received Congressional Recognition for Outstanding Community Service by Congressman John Lewis for his service in the Atlanta Metropolitan area.
Fidelina Jackson, former Christian Education Director of the Western North Carolina Conference Christian Education Department authors the novel, "The Church Lady's Cry". The Reverend Dr. Lester Agyei (Ahd-JAY-ee) McCorn is a visionary leader, scholar, author, activist and college president. He is the 13th President of Clinton College in Rock Hill, SC. He is a native of Worcester, Massachusetts. An alumnus of Morehouse College, Yale Divinity School and Chicago Theological Seminary, he holds the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from United Theological Seminary. He is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ethical and Creative Leadership, with a concentration in Martin Luther King Jr. Studies and Social Change, at Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. For several years, he served as an adjunct professor/mentor of doctoral students at United Seminary. Dr. McCorn is the author of “Standing on Holy Common Ground: An Africentric Ministry Approach to Prophetic Community Engagement.” (MMGI Press, Chicago). He had a 31-year career as a pastor in the A.M.E. Zion Church, including serving in the major cities of Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Baltimore. He came to Clinton College after having served as the Senior Pastor of the historic Pennsylvania Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church in Baltimore, Maryland from 2008 to 2017.

She completed her doctoral work at Walden University with a concentration in Social Policy Analysis & Plan. Featured in Forbes Women and on Bronx Network, her dissertation, “Experiences of Long-Term Stay Among Homeless Millennials in New York City Shelters”, explored the experiences of long-term stay millennials, 25 to 34 years of age, residing in single adult NYC shelters to understand how they explain and interpret their extended stays.

She attended the public schools of Rock Hill and furthered her education at Winthrop University. Currently, she is working on an MBA at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Lynn developed a love for family and fellowship as a child. Family gatherings were special because laughter filled every room. Through the laughs and the tears, she scripted the funny episodes occurring during the festivities and titled it “Holiday Rules.” Lynn generally posts the rules via Facebook, but this year, she is giving DaGrip the inside scoop at the top 10 rules for Thanksgiving before the entire list is shared with everyone. Ashleigh Curry, writer of the short film entitled, "Toni. Mamie. Connie." shares her journey with the production of her own work. The former Hunter Huss High School and UNC-Chapel-Hill grad, uses her theater degree to direct and produce a film about three black women playing on a baseball team in the 1950's. Ashleigh shares her introduction to directing and the film makers who inspired her to press forward. Post-production for the short film is on the way and then multiple viewings at various film festivals. Be on the look out for outstanding, informative, and cinematic entertainment in years to come.

Pierre McElhaney is known in North and South Carolina for contributing a significant body of work to theater. He is a product of Gastonia, NC and a graduate of Ashbrook High School. In our conversation, he shares his passion for acting and how he remains motivated to inspire others. He recalls getting his start in acting while just a kid at Center Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC.
McElhaney is not shy about the power of stage plays. In the interview, he stated he believes people that won't got to church will buy tickets to a show. After dropping that nugget, I asked him to explore his thoughts so we could really understand his views on the changing culture.
McElhaney is the founder of NEZO entertainment and through his organization he launches his personal work and collaborates with his son and many others in the business. McElhaney said in our post interview dialogue, Covid-19 brought some setbacks, but through it all God still moved on his behalf.

Ordained to Pastor in the A.M.E. Zion Reformation at 18, by The Rt. Rev. George Edward Battle, Jr., (Senior Bishop) the pursuit of excellence was always a familiar mark set by Pastor Bell. God has afforded Pastor Bell, throughout the years, the opportunity to serve in various international areas, most notably he serves on the Board of Directors of Dr. Thomas A. Dorsey’s National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses…which he was appointed by his spiritual mentor, The Late Bishop Kenneth H. Moales.
For 8 years Pastor Bell served the Office of International Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Mount Calvary Holy Church of America under the leadership of Archbishop Alfred A. Owens and Co-Pastor Susie C. Owens. In September 2016, Pastor Bell connected to the Global United Fellowship under the leadership of His Grace, Bishop Neil C. Ellis, Presiding Prelate (Global United Fellowship).
February 2017, Bishop Ellis appointed Pastor Bell the District Leader over the State of Maryland and District of Columbia in which he oversees 40 plus 9 churches.

"Modeling of good character from Police officers" said Ben Henderson helped him decided to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. From a detention officer with the Gaston County Sheriff's department to a Police Officer with the City of Belmont, Henderson has witnessed policing evolve and he is optimistic about the future. Henderson offered some real insights about the responsibility of police officers and the community. The down to earth conversation is one to help build some better relationships.

Dr. Amy S. Ciceron is a native of Lamar, SC. She graduated from Winthrop University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree and worked as a Social Work for 15 year, spending 11 years with the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services in Charlotte, NC. In 2008, she resigned her social work position to become a full-time Pastor.
Dr. Ciceron served as Pastor of the Reeve’s Temple(2006-2008) and Shiloh(2008-2014) AME Zion Churches in Davidson and Statesville, NC respectively. Her leadership and determination empowered the members to walk in their God-given gifts. As result, many new leaders were trained & developed through her leadership and two ministers confirmed their call to preach. Additionally, Dr. Ciceron successfully led these congregations through transition that culminated in remodeled churches, increased membership, increased bible study participation, increased giving, summer feeding program, summer camp program and initiating the process for historical designation of church property, which was realized subsequent to her tenure.
Currently, Dr. Ciceron serves as Pastor of the St. Julia AME Zion Church, Jacksonville, NC, where their method for ministry is “Re-Tracing Our Path, Re-Thinking Our Process and Re-Tooling Our People for 21st Century ministry.” She has faithfully led this congregation since March 2, 2014 where more than 90 new members have joined the fellowship. St. Julia has received numerous honors for their work in the community, but the ministry that has made the greatest impact is the Food Distributions Ministry in partnership with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Starbucks, Sam’s Club & Food Lion where over 1,000,000 pounds of food has been distributed in the Onslow County community since Hurricane Florence (2018).

Latasha A. Gray is a licensed therapist and counselor in the state of North Carolina who recently presented at the North Carolina Counseling Association Annual Conference about Suicide. Through her work, she believes that anxiety, depression, and stress are on the rise and the country could witness these issues as a second wave of trouble after the Pandemic fully ends. Dr. Johnson proudly serves as the Presiding Elder of the SENSATIONAL, SPIRIT-FILLED, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS DISTRICT, Indiana Annual Conference, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
He is the son of Presiding Elder Carrol Ann Kimbrough Johnson (Presiding Elder of the St. Louis District - Missouri Annual Conference) and the late Mr. William Lamour Johnson.
He is the very proud father of two wonderful children, William IV and Ebonee.

Dr. Mitchell earned the Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Religion/Philosophy-Liberal Studies from Bethune-Cookman College, the Master of Divinity degree from Hood Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University.
Dr. Mitchell has served congregations in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, New York, and is now the pastor of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, Greensboro, North Carolina.
