Finding Sobriety on a Mountaintop The Phoenix
The Phoenix is another ministry Rhonda mentioned was where the only cost to participants is 48 hours sober. Their mission to help people stay sober in community with each other. "If you’re in recovery from substance use disorder and have the desire to live sober, we will help you find strength and a new community of friends to support your journey."
I took notes because Rhonda was saying so many great things; here are some of them:
"Get up, dress up, show up!" Advice given by another grieving parent.
"Satan wants to keep you in bed."
"Be in agreement with Me." What Rhonda heard God say to her while standing in the yard outside her daughter's apartment the morning she discovered she had died.
"People need to go to heaven and we need to help them get there." That's all the really matters here.
"People are so full of nonsense! Stop worrying about all the other stuff."

Bonfires originated from the “bone fires” that were part of the Samhain festival because the bones of animal sacrifices were burnt in the large fires.

Ideas of ways you might redeem Halloween:
Circle up and pray for your neighbors before you go out. Ask God to give you opportunities to share Jesus with them.
Give out the BEST candy and include a kid friendly gospel tract with it.
Prepare treats for adults so that you have time to interact and have conversations with them.
Follow up Halloween with a harvest gift of some kind and deliver that before Thanksgiving.
In this Episode, Leighann takes it way back to a study she wrote in 2007, Pray Right!. She talks about praying in Jesus Name, and Amen. Its about how to seal the envelope and put the stamp on the letter in the mailbox and on its way. However, there is so much more to these phrases and we want to understand how much more these two phrases mean. We want to apply these words to our prayers but to also apply their meaning to our prayers. Names mean something! In Jesus' Name. Amen. Let's dive in!

God is able to do anything!

God wants me to exercise faith.

Faith is being certain that God hears me when I pray. But this is where we get stuck. From this point forward we create our understanding of how prayer works like this,

God loves me very much and wants what is best for me.

I can pray, and ask God to give me what I want but only God knows if that's what's best for me, so the best I can do is hope He will respond in a way that is good, and that I can trust His answer even if it isn't what I really want. In other words, "I will pray for that mountain to be moved and if it be God's will He will move it. If not, well, at least I feel better about dealing with it because now I can accept that it's a mountain God wants me to face."

How the Character of God Impacts the Promises of God:

When you pray the promises you are inviting the presence and power of God to enter into the details of your life and take control of the circumstances. You are trusting Him to do what He knows is best, and to reveal Himself to you and to those around you as He does.
God is eager to release and demonstrate His power on the earth.

Life for the Christian is a continual battle to stand firm on the promises of God and to penetrate arguments and pretensions that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
How to take God’s promises and make them work for you (and others)
Here are 3 steps to making the promises work for you and those you are praying with.
- Embrace an all or nothing mindset.
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.” Psalm 73:25
- Be Surrendered and Satisfied.
Surrender definition: cease resistance and submit to authority.
To be satisfied in surrender is to shout AMEN! (SO BE IT!) to the glory of God on this side or our answered prayers!
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
- Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude
When you cultivate an attitude of gratitude your eyes are opened to how God’s promises fit into your life. You begin to see what God is already doing and you fuel your faith regarding what He’s about to be doing!
How to Know When God’s Kept His Promise to You God kept His promise to you the minute He made it.
God doesn’t heckle you.
God doesn’t mess with you.
Instead, God challenges you to take the promises He’s given you no hold fast to them but holding tight to Him.
God Himself promises to keep His promises!
Psalm 145:13, “The LORD is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.”
Joshua 21:45, “Not one of the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

Quote regarding God’s response to “the tragedy of human transgression:”
“The pervasive sin, distortion, brokenness and abuse of power, including misogynistic oppression in our world are effects of human rebellion against God. The painful situations described in the Scriptures relating to poor treatment of women reflect the tragedy of human transgression. Therefore, any action God takes to curb and/or liberate a person from such sin and brokenness exalts His mercy.”

Two troubling passages of Scripture we took a look at:
- Deuteronomy 21:10-14
- God’s law emphasized responsibilities of the powerful rather than rights
- God’s law recognizes the personhood of the vulnerable

God’s law is concerned with covenant relationships

Numbers 5:11-21
- God’s law guards the community from defilement by upholding the marriage covenant.
- God’s law protected women from human judgment (no witness).
- God’s law allowed the woman to be innocent until (miraculously) proven guilty where the code of Hamarati practiced “trial by ordeal” where the accused would have had to have been miraculously saved from the ordeal in order to be proven innocent.

In this episode Leighann shares 5 strategies Satan uses to deceive people who enter into the deconstruction process. She then shares specific ways you can pray for the people you love who are deconstructing their faith.

5 Strategies Satan uses are what I call a “ruse.” They have truth in them, but the truth is distorted in the telling. The distortion works because it appeals to pride in self. And even though the things he says are painted with truth, the core of the deception is evil. At the core of Christianity you have a loving heavenly Father who wants to save you. At the core of what the devil is dishing out you have a wicked fallen angel who wants to destroy you.

When you find yourself in a place where it's hard to accept what is, and also hard to believe what God says will be, this podcast is for you.
