This is a podcast for people and about people. Our conversations on this podcast focus on how our team (Mike Conn Coaching and Consulting) partners with organizations to move people from being team members to becoming TEAMMATES. We do this by focusing on these 4 categories:
1) Communication and Culture 2) Execution and Teamwork 3) Leadership and Supervision 4) Personal Development and Growth
We get into these topics and more here! Thanks for joining the conversation!

Tough question: What is your current culture of gossip COSTING your organization?
Communication and Culture: Gossip can create a culture of mistrust, which will stop đ open, honest, and vulnerable communication.
Organizations move at the speed of trust.
Are you cultivating a culture of trust, mistrust, or distrust among your team? Among your department? Interdepartmental? Organization wide? When employees/team members are hesitant to share their thoughts and ideas, it hinders the creative process and slows down productivity. A culture of gossip can create cliques and factions, leading to a fragmented work environment.
Execution and Teamwork: Gossip can distract employees from their work, leading to poor execution and team performance. Gossip can create divisions and cliques, undermining team collaboration and cohesion.
Leadership and Supervision: Leaders and supervisors play a critical role in creating a positive work environment that promotes morale and productivity. *When they fail to address gossip, it can erode trust in their leadership and authority, which causes a breakdown in team trust and confidence in each other to do the job they are supposed to do (and paid to do).
Personal Development and Growth: Gossip can negatively impact personal growth and development by demotivating employees and creating a negative work environment. When employees feel undervalued or unsupported, it hinders their ability to grow and develop professionally.

Hard conversations are hard to have...regardless which side we are on.
Today's episode centers around the question: "How do YOU handle something when it's hard to hear?"
This ties into our mission of partnering with organizations to help move people from becoming team members (employees) to becoming TEAM mates! We do this by focusing on 4 major topics:
1) Communication and Culture
2) Execution and Teamwork
3) Leadership and Supervision
4) Personal Development and Growth
This conversation hits on all 4 topics. One of the keys to dealing with something that is hard to hear, is not to try to discount the messenger bringing the news, or totally discount its relevance...but rather look for 10% of truth in the criticism. When we look for at least 10% of truth we will find opportunities to get better.
Mike referenced an episode of the Executive Minds Podcast with Dr. Tim Irwin about this topic. Here is the link to that conversation: https://wearemntr.co/podcast/em-209-how-affirmation-improves-performance-at-work-with-dr-tim-irwin/

Join us for a FANTASTIC conversation with members of the Duncan Lady Demon Basketball đ Team: Coach Brandon Kephart, Seniors Kyndle Ledford, and Alexis Giles as we talk about execution and teamwork.
When Alexis was asked "what drives you to keep you going full force (maximum effort) on the court?"
Her 2 part answer is great! She thinks this is one of the reasons why their team "annoys their opponent!"
The first part of her answer is what every leader/manager of any team in any organization would want to hear their leaders say. It is crucial to great execution and teamwork!
When we talked about Servant Leadership, Kyndle had a great answer about doing the dirty work. It is a great attitude that DEFINITELY flows to the rest of the team...and when it is absent on any team everyone knows it!
Coach Kephart did a tremendous job pointing to the leadership of the seniors on their team! We all know that even the best teams must be led well and given a game plan to execute in order to continue to be successful! Coach K does a great job leading his staff and team to play FOR each other, give 100%, and never quit--even when things aren't going your way! Definitely some great life lessons there!
Stay tuned for our next episode when we continue the conversation with the team, and invite Coach Amanda Lard, and a couple of other senior players to the conversation!

What is your current culture of communication costing your organization? This episode is part 3 of a 5 part series on communication. Â If you havenât listened to parts 1 & 2 of this series, you will find it in Episodes 6 & 7 of the People Podcast with Mike Conn. Who is your favorite villain...in all the movies youâve watched, the books youâve read, who is your favorite villain? If you were channelling that villainâs best evil powers, how would you subtly or discreetly bring the demise of your organization at work and at home in a way that they didnât see coming, and havenât thought of a defense for it because they donât even see or feel they have a problem yet. Thereâs a two step recipe in that movie that we have all seen play out a bunch of different ways, both in Hollywood, AND in our own lives.
Sow doubt. Destroy morale.

What is your current culture of communication costing your organization?
This episode is part 4 of a 5 part series on communication. Â If you havenât listened to the first 3 parts of this series, you will find it in Episodes 6-8 of this podcast.
Our working definition of communication is simply transferring information.
What we are missing in our communication costs EVERY organization something. Â Even the ones who do it well still have room to improve.

âWhere there is a void (gap) in communication, negativity fills it.â - Jon Gordon
âMerely existing doesnât satisfy most of us so we pursue inputs that ultimately distract us from our lack of direction.â
He goes on to say: âWe need to replace what weâve settled for with what weâve been longing for.
We need to find ambitions worthy of our time and the effort it will take to pursue them.â from the book Dream Big by Bob Goff p. 33-34

rather than something we just do because we have to.

We all have preferences. Â We all have convictions. Â Sometimes they line up perfectly...and other times, not so much.
In this episode we are going to look at ways to become aware of the two and how to manage them.
Some key ideas in this episode are:
Organizations Donât Drift Towards Unity, they must be led there
Reminder: Problems should be solved, people should be valued. Â
Overview of series on #communication.

3 things we were taught as kids that we maybe could've done without:
This episode is inspired by a statement made by Oklahoma State Representative Marcus McEntyre.
"We need to trade compromise for consensus."
A Couple of Big Ideas from this episode:
1) "Itâs all about finding the common ground around us. Â A better way of saying that is RECOGNIZING the COMMON GROUND that already exists between us!"
2) "It is a LOT easier to recognize the common ground you have WITH people when you are looking for ways to be FOR people"
3) "People don't collaborate because they want to know who gets the credit when things go right...but they are more concerned with who has to wear the blame of the shame when something goes wrong."

This conversation builds on episode 2 and the idea that organizations should relentlessly pursue being known by who they are FOR, rather than what they are against. We identify 2 questions to ask to see if people know you are FOR them.
Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thepeoplelabpodcast/message
"We have been known for far too long by what we are against. Â It's time we are known by who we are FOR." - Jeff HendersonÂ
That sentence is the premise behind today's episode and how that applies to businesses, organizations, non-profits, churches, and schools. Â Jeff wrote a book called "Know What You're FOR: A Growth Strategy for Work, An Even Better Strategy for Life." Â He is also the founder of https://theforcompany.com/
You can follow Jeff on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jefferyhenderson/Â
He's an incredible thought leader and change agent for our culture in businesses, organizations, non-profits, and churches!
We tackle several questions in this episode. Â Some of them are:Â
What are 2 ways to be known by what you're against? Â
Is not being against something the same thing as being FOR someone? Â
Who are you FOR? Â
Who KNOWS you are FOR them?
Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thepeoplelabpodcast/message
Everyone wants to feel this way, and sometimes we do...but sometimes we feel plotted against, or worse invisible.
