Max Traylor is the Founder and CEO of Max Traylor Productized Consulting Services which helps marketing agencies productize consulting services. He helps consultants to focus, simplify their offering and charge a premium.

He is also the author of the book “Max Traylor’s Agency Survival Guide” where readers will learn how to navigate the three main business models that lead to residual income and personal freedom, along with why pricing premiums for traditional agencies have vanished, how to pivot your selling strategy and how to become indispensable to clients.

And since both of us have a podcast, we co-recorded this unique episode. So this turns out to be more of a conversation and less of a Q&A.

This episode is highly recommended especially for those small business owners who are looking to free up more of their time and also for those who want to level up their leadership knowledge.

Listen to this episode as we cover a wide variety of topics.

Below are the key takeaways or highlights of our conversation:

  • Max encourages people to put their personal life first and build some fun revenue streams that allow them to enjoy life.

  • My take on leadership is about trying to help people be the best version of themselves.

  • Leaders should plan how to lead intentionally. I recommend setting aside 10 minutes once a week of intentional leadership time and ask themselves, “What does it mean to be a better leader?”

  • Find out why Max only lasted 3 months in corporate and his experience that led him to end his optimism for organizations.

  • The influence that Max’s dad has unto him with regards to entrepreneurship. As well as building his mindset of putting his personal life first and building his business around that.

  • Hear some interesting statistics around leadership.

  • Max’s realization that the gift of an entrepreneur is you get to design a personali life that you want.

  • Do something that you’re passionate about so it doesn’t control your life.

  • Max’s definition of work-life balance.

  • Discover why I ventured into building a leadership development company.

  • Imposter syndrome, power of vulnerability and authenticity and self-leadership are also some of the items we discussed.

  • Learn the most important thing that I learned about leadership during my Master’s versus in the real world.

How important is it for leaders to be authentic and humble? How important are the people around you when you're a leader?

This is Part 2 of my recent interview with world-class leader, Mark Chipman.

Mark Chipman is best known as the Chairperson of True North Sports and Entertainment, the company which owns the Winnipeg Jets.

He is a businessman, holds a law degree from University of North Dakota and has also received many accolades throughout his career, one of which was that he was made a member of the Order of Manitoba in 2012.

But more importantly, he is an excellent leader who has a huge heart for people. His authenticity and graciousness shone through during our conversation.

My biggest takeaway was how Mark values humility in his leadership.

I was honoured to have a chance to hear his thoughts on leadership. I wish the conversation could have lasted way longer!

Some key quotes:

"You manage things, you lead people."

“Intentional means understanding what your shortcomings are and is something you commit to over a long term.”

In Part 2, Mark talks about:

  • The greatest myth about leaders who have 'made it'.

  • His largest leadership challenge he had to overcome and the role his father played in empowering him and conditioning his mindset.

  • How a remarkable culture has driven the success of their company.

  • His advice to leaders.

  • The song that best represents his leadership philosophy.

And so much more….

Hon. Kelvin Goertzen who served as Deputy Premier of Manitoba and later as Premier joined me to discuss leadership.

He has previously served as the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, the Minister of Education and Training, the Minister of Legislative of Public Affairs and has been the Minister responsible for Immigration.

He also had the honor of serving as the MLA for the Steinbach constituency since 2003.

His community and provincial service have earned him many awards including the H.O.P.E. Medal of Honour by the Lions Club of Manitoba as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Governor General of Canada.

Note: On the date of recording, Minister Goertzen held a different position in the Manitoba Government.

Mr. Goertzen's thoughts on leadership as a public servant are very thoughtful. His position means he can't please everyone, yet he uses grace and patience to try and be an influencer of others.

Listen to this episode of my interview with him and learn:

  • Why leadership is self-sacrificing and self-rewarding at the same time and why you should not be threatened when your people reach their full potential.

  • Vision casting as the hardest part of being a leader and why you should include your team early on in this process.

  • The best part of being a leader is reaching a certain maturity level in the organization where people can voice out their opinions / ideas.

  • How does he navigate the challenges that arise when there are sometimes vastly different opinions and viewpoints on certain topics and policies in his role as an elected official in a leadership role and why it’s important to recognize that you’re not going to satisfy everybody.

  • That trusting the process will bring you comfort that you made the decision the right way.

  • The advice that he gives to other leaders as we continue to navigate the world of the pandemic and the importance of protecting your family and those closest around you amidst all these.

  • How his faith commitment relates to his role as a leader.

  • If his job is not the thing that he values the most then what is it?

  • His answer to our fun question.
