Is it more enriching to (give) Forgiveness or to (receive) Forgiveness?

Sometimes we can OVER-use the art of Forgiveness while other times we seem to forget to Forgive.

Ans sometimes we forget to Forgive our own self - and that can be as much as a pick-up than receiving from or giving to others.

Do we spend too much time looking backwards and not enough on our future?

There were things from our past that still influence our todays and tomorrows.

People we met upset us. Decisions we made were wrong. Opportunities were missed.

....... but let's look ahead - not the rear-view mirror.

The hardest thing about ‘everything happens for a reason’ is waiting for the reason to come along.” — Unknown

Waiting is a nasty little game you play with yourself when you could be putting your thoughts and energy to better use — a place where no chair seems comfortable and even your favorite sweater suddenly seems suffocating.

And the more you try to wait, the harder it is to remain still until you just can’t take it one more second. ... https://medium.com/@robintrimingham/the-waiting-game-2a864f1b6304

I often hear from other Retirees about perhaps wanting a wee part-time job. Maybe not for the money but to fill spare capacity of time - or - perhaps to just contribute to society - a Give-back if you prefer.

Yet so often those folks are rejected by our fast-paced and "smart" culture of business nowadays.

The fact that their knowledge and experience could be most beneficial escapes those who have all the answers already.

Shame really.

I once heard my Mum tell a friend, that another lady was "Living in God's Waiting Room".

I was just a kid at the time, but that phrase stuck with me for decades - still to this day.

Now I really do understand it.

Let me explain.

You've never been asked that question, have you?

Tell me if you can figure out why the young person (no, not the horse) in this wee story should be doing what she is doing at that time in the morning.

The Problem with Birthdays? Future Living Series -

If I am being truthful, it’s hard for me to believe I have just embarked upon my 60th lap around the sun.

When I look back on all the places I’ve been, the things that I’ve done — the people that I’ve met — it seems as though I have already accomplished an enormous amount and yet in some ways it really feels as though the journey is just getting started.

For all that I have — all the friends — all the good fortune — all the accumulated wisdom — I really love the notion that there is still so much I can learn and so many places that I can go...

Before you can have faith in everything you first have to find faith in anything.

This might seem like an obvious statement when life is going well, and you are optimistic about what the future holds for you.

But what if that is not the case?

For example, when circumstances in your life continually do not go your way — or you are confronted with a sudden loss so enormous — so random — so unfair — that it shatters your belief in everything, what happens then? ...

When I was a wee lad growing up in Scotland, I remember that people were nice to each other.

They said "Good morning"; they held doors open for people following them; they thanked people for service; they respected older folks ...........but now that I am one of those older folks the times have changed.

D'you remember "Respect your Elders"?

D'you remember "Respect your Granddad"?

How often do you hear people say that these days?

Ah, that's right - NEVER. I must be SOFT, cos I still do some of that nonsense.

Maybe I just need to WOKE up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These days I write because I love to share ideas and give others something to think about as they go about their day without having any preconceived notions regarding what readers will take from my work, or what sorts of thoughts of their own it will subsequently inspire.

Equally, it is not for me to say who should find these words - or when they should find them - or even what they should take from them – it is only to hope that people do find them on the day that they most need to - be that today, or next week, or years from now...

Have you ever looked back to your earlier years and wondered what would have happened if you had made a different decision or moved in a different direction?

All of us have done that at one point - maybe may points - in our life.

Has that changed your outlook now?

For many people, the notion of living ahead of yourself so to speak is tempting fate.

We all recognize that we sometimes don’t know what lies around the corner ahead of us - and some folks don’t want to know.

They would rather take things as they come along.

I remember reading a few years ago about a theory that says we all have a pre-existing connection with every single person that we meet in our lifetime — and that one of the saddest facts of life is that most of us have simply given up trying to decipher what it is — or perhaps never even tried in the first place.

I hope that this is not true, because a universal lack of interest in those around us would make us a society of judgmental narcissists. Instead, my hope is that we would finally begin to view the world for what it is — an endless source of opportunities ...

As children we are taught to wish upon a star, make a wish when we blow out the candles on a birthday cake, and to make a wish before blowing the seeds off the head of a dandelion – and even as adults we encourage each other to continue wishing for things

– but have you ever stopped to wonder why?

Better yet, have you ever paused to wonder what it would be like if some of your wildest dreams really did become true? ...

  • How many times have you asked yourself that question?

What would you do over again — or do differently — or simply not do at all?

Did you work too hard, or not make enough money, or drank too much, or worried too much?

So, let’s say the magic wand appears today in your life and you are given a day to think about everything you would do if you were in your twenties let’s say.

You have to think fast because the magic wand is snatched away from you at midnight tonight...

Has anyone else noticed that the happier, perkier, and more perfect a social media personality appears to be on camera, the more messed up and manic that same person often turns out to be when the walls come tumbling down sometime in their future life?

My question is — were they always this way or did their constant life online make them this way?

I suppose it really depends on why they embarked on a video production channel in the first place.

Was it for fun — or a desperate cry for attention — or a campaign to get rich quick — or a complex combination of all of these — or more? ...

Last week I spoke about being at peace with yourself.

This week let’s continue the conversation by considering how your decision-making process is altered once you achieve this state.

Sir Isaac Newton’s first law of motion says that “a body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion unless it is acted upon by an external force”.

Although Newton was talking about the physical world, interestingly much the same principle applies when it comes to your inner world. ...

For those of you who are not familiar with ice fishing, it means you go to a frozen lake (that’s the ice part), slide out to the middle (that’s the daft part), dig a hole in the ice (that’s the tough part), sit on a stool in a hut on the ice (that’s the funny part) ...

Focusing on Self Control - Future Living Series -

If there is one thing that the last two years have shown us it is this — some things are beyond our control.

And some of these things will not just continue to be beyond our control — the list of things on its own — and the extent to which they are well beyond our control — will be in a continuous state of flux.

And yet somehow, even though we know it is illogical, the vast majority of us continue to cling to the idea that we need — and must — control things ...

Let no-one fool you, being a Granddad is an arduous task.

I speak from experience.

You have to use all the skills and secrets you learned from your own Granddad......now decades later all of those tricks you experienced as a kid (being forced to eat carrots for example) must now be dragged out of your long-lost memory.

Not easy I assure you - but worthwhile.

Setting Boundaries - Future Living Series

If you need to learn how to set boundaries with someone you love — get a dog.

In time, life with a dog will teach you more about yourself than any other relationship in your life because how well a dog behaves ultimately demonstrates both the best attributes of the humans they live with, and equally mimics their worst characteristics.

When they are little dogs are cuddy, adorable, awkward, uncoordinated, silly, and easy to love...

Embracing Your Power - Future Living Series

Have you ever noticed that the hardest part of overcoming any obstacle is often simply figuring out how to get out of the way of yourself, particularly when you are so stuck in your ways that you are in complete denial regarding the fact that YOU are the problem?

This can be particularly difficult for some women to appreciate and so, as much as I try to avoid writing about subjects that only pertain to one segment of humanity – today I’m making an exception, and you have Instagram to thank for it ...
