Anja Harrison, PhD Dipl.-Psych is a Lecturer and Applied Neuroscience Programme lead at King's College London, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and CEO at The Collaborative Library - an online platform dedicated to bringing scientific knowledge to the masses by providing a space for people to share plain language summaries of research articles.
Anja’s background and research training are at the interface of psychology and biology. For the past 10 years Anja has mentored and supervised students ranging from BSc to MSc and PhD level, working closely with student disability services. In her view, keys to success in this context are partnership, equity, accountability and ownership.
Her main career interest is to utilize her passion for interdisciplinary research, teaching and mentoring to attract, excite and train the next generation of scientists and professionals as well as contribute to knowledge equity.
Anja joins Jo on this episode to talk about her project, The Collaborative Library and how it addresses access barriers to scientific information and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. She also highlights the initiative’s goal of providing tools for both students and professionals to engage with and summarize research for broader public understanding.

Miss Dine Roseline Dzekem is a public health professional and social scientist in her early career. She has a background in sociology and anthropology from the University of Buea-Cameroon (2016) and a Master’s degree in public health from the University of Rwanda (2019).
Her areas of interest have been Sub-Saharan African public health and social issues, such as infectious diseases, healthcare access, community engagement, and mobilization. Roseline created the Rwanda Preprint Club because she is particularly interested in open science and access. Roseline intends to leverage her network and learning opportunities to produce culturally acceptable solutions and enhance health outcomes and scientific communication in African communities by combining her skills in implementation research and community involvement.
Patience Sindayigaya

He was chosen as the Overall Best Student in 2005 at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Speaker profiles
Lynne Bowker, PhD, is Full Professor at the School of Translation and Interpretation at the University of Ottawa and incoming Canada Research Chair in Translation, Technologies, and Society at Université Laval. She is the director of the Machine Translation Literacy Project and author of the open access book De-mystifying Translation (2023, Routledge). She is also a certified French-English translator specializing in scientific and technical translation. Emma Steigerwald is a conservation genomicist interested in understanding how forces like climate change and emerging infectious diseases impact the evolutionary and demographic trajectories of populations– particularly in amphibians. She is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California Santa Cruz, where she was just awarded a University of California Chancellor’s Fellowship. She recently finished her PhD at UC Berkeley in August of 2023. Her dissertation fieldwork and outreach in the high Andes contributed to her interest in making access to scientific careers and scientific findings more equitable. She served as founding chair of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology’s Translation Working Group, and continues through this group to work on collaborations focused on increasing linguistic diversity in science.

Laetitia Bracco is a curator in the Research Support Mission of the Université de Lorraine libraries. She is in charge of the "ADOC Lorraine" data workshop, the support service for research data, as well as the Bibliometrics unit. At the national level, she leads the research data working group of the Couperin consortium.
She is also the project leader for the French Open Science Monitor on research data and software codes. At the international level, she is a member of the SPARC Europe board and one of the coordinators of the Open Science Monitoring Initiative (OSMI).
Laetitia joins Jo on this episode to discuss the developments and challenges of Open Science monitoring. In their conversation, they emphasized the need for context-sensitive indicators to support researchers rather than penalize them.

Iryna Kuchma has been managing the EIFL Open Access Programme (EIFL-OA) since 2008. Working in collaboration with libraries and library consortia in more than 60 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, she advocates for open access to research results, facilitates the development and implementation of open science policies and infrastructures, and provides support and training. Iryna sits on the boards of Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR), the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS) and the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD). She is an Associate Editor for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and a member of the DOAJ Council. Ashley Farley is the Program Officer of Knowledge & Research Services at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

She is currently the Technical Lead of the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative, leading a team of data scientists and software developers who work with leading experts in open access and scholarly communication. Together, the COKI team develops tools and infrastructure for navigating and tracking open access performance.

Joy Owango is an award-winning Founding Director of the Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa), a registered trust in Kenya established in 2006. TCC Africa is the first African-based training center focused on teaching effective communication skills to scientists.
Ms Joy Owango is also the project lead at the Africa PID Alliance, an organization whose mission is to secure the future of African Innovation, Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Heritage.
Ms. Owango has a proven history of working in higher education across private, university, and non-governmental sectors. She was a successful higher education practitioner with Clarivate Analytics and has collaborated with the governments of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mauritius, Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso, among others.
As the Director of TCC Africa, she is currently working with 15 African countries that have committed to spending 1% of their GDP on higher education and research and development. Her achievements in enhancing higher education and research capacity in Africa were recognized by The Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World by UNESCO during the 2021 International Day for Women in Science.

Mofahloshi R.M. Chuene is a research scientist specializing in applied chemistry, with a focus on water treatment, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy solutions. She recently completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry at the University of Johannesburg, where her thesis investigated the development and application of sawdust nano-adsorbents for heavy metals remediation and their potential reuse as alternative fuel cell electrocatalysts. She is expected to have the degree conferred in August 2024.
Ms. Chuene embarked on her academic journey by obtaining a National Diploma in Biotechnology from the University of Johannesburg in 2007, followed by a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology in 2012, and a Master of Technology in Water Care (with distinction) from Tshwane University of Technology in 2019. Her master’s dissertation focused on the disinfection of wastewater using an integrated ozone-nanoparticle system.
With extensive experience in scientific research and laboratory facilitation, Ms. Chuene has held various roles in academic and research settings. At the University of Johannesburg, she served as a First-Year Tutor and Laboratory Demonstrator, preparing and supervising laboratory activities while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Additionally, she made significant contributions to sales and marketing strategies in her role as Head of Sales and Marketing at PureMadi and Dertig Multipurpose Projects, where she drove the distribution of ceramic water filters.
She is a member of the Future Earth, Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) and Young Water Professionals (YWP-ZA), and a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). Her accolades include recognition as the most valuable contributor and a rising star by the Council for Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR).
Ms. Chuene’s contributions to the scientific community are further evidenced by her active participation in numerous conferences and workshops, where she has presented her research and chaired sessions. Notable among these are the Young Water Professional Conference, the South African-Egypt First Joint Researchers’ Workshop, and the Nanos Nanoscience Young Researcher’s Symposium. Her diverse skill set and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge make her an invaluable addition to any research and development team. She currently works for Aphrike Research as a stakeholder relations officer. Her main roles include developing and implementing strategies to engage key stakeholders, such as researchers, students, investors, community members, and government agencies.
Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Ms. Chuene enjoys playing board games and tennis, cooking, and watching documentaries and investigation channels. She is currently based in Gauteng, South Africa, and can be reached via LinkedIn or email.

Maha Said is a post-doctoral researcher on the ERC-funded NanoBubbles project which asks the questions how, when, and why does science fail to correct itself. Originally trained in molecular and cellular biology and working close to science and technology studies especially science integrity, she is currently working in 2 sub-projects, the first being post publication peer review in which articles on the topic of interest are critically analyzed and publicly commented on Pubpeer, and second is the reproducibility project in which research articles that describe the use of nanoparticles for intracellular sensing are examined.
On this podcast episode, Jo and Maha engage in a conversation focused on research integrity within the field of nanoparticles. Maha shares her journey into this area, driven by experiences of encountering integrity issues during her PhD research, particularly with antibodies. Cooper Smout is on a mission to revolutionize scientific conduct and communication through the principles of Open Science. Unhappy with the costly, inefficient, and biased nature of scholarly publishing, Cooper saw the need for change. Thus, he founded Project Free Our Knowledge, an initiative dedicated to empowering researchers globally.
With Free Our Knowledge, Cooper seeks to harness the collective power of researchers worldwide to challenge the dominance of profit-driven publishers. His vision is to redirect the invaluable contributions of researchers from commercial publishers to community-owned Open Access journals. This shift not only democratizes access to knowledge but also minimizes risks for vulnerable individuals, such as Early Career Researchers.
Cooper joins Jo on this podcast episode to discuss the evolution of open science, personal experiences with academia and mental health, challenges in transitioning to open access publishing, and his project, Free Our Knowledge. Dr. Wendy Patterson is a member of the board of management of the Beilstein-Institut where she serves as scientific director. She received various degrees in the field of physics, culminating in a doctorate degree in optics and then continued post-doctoral research in the areas of nanotechnology and materials for energy conversion and storage in the US and Germany. Concerned with the direction that scholarly publishing had taken and its impact on scholars, she joined the Beilstein-Institut, a charitable foundation, in 2014 to contribute to their diamond open access journals. She is also a board member of Crossref and the Free Journal Network, both non-profit entities providing services for the scholarly community.

He specializes in strategic communications, graphic design, proposal development, and public relations.
Jerry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies (Community Development) from Kenyatta University, Kenya as well as a post-graduate diploma in Public Relations. He is currently undertaking a Masters in Development Communications from Daystar University. Before joining IOI, Jerry held senior roles in communication and marketing in the wildlife conversation, agriculture, and social impact sectors .

information professionals in the Middle Eastern region and beyond.
He is also the Co-founder and Managing Director at Zendy, an organization that is focused on making academic research affordable and accessible around the world.
Kamran has 20 years of experience working in the publishing industry on both the publisher and agency front. Working closely with some of the top consortia, libraries, ministries, hospitals and corporations within research and education in the region, he has experienced the birth and growth of many digital libraries. Driven by his interest in learning societies, he has initiated and participated in the completion of various special development projects.
Kamran holds a BSc in Engineering, an MSc in Marketing with a thesis on ‘Open Access publishing business models’ as well as an MBA from the University of Manchester with a dissertation on ‘The application of Business Model Canvas in university research offices’.
Kamran plays a major active role in the Knowledge E Foundation, a community interest corporation focusing on supporting education and research-based projects across the globe, with a focus on developing nations.

Sarah Lippincott is a librarian and library consultant with a decade of experience supporting open access, digital scholarship, and scholarly communications through strategic planning, research, service design, facilitation, and communications work.
As Head of Community Engagement at Dryad, Sarah works with institutions, funders, and researchers to increase awareness of and engagement with data sharing and data reuse. She received her MLS from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and prior to joining Dryad, she worked in a variety of roles within and adjacent to libraries.
Sarah started her career as the founding Program Director for the Library Publishing Coalition and went on to coordinate assessment, user experience, and strategic planning activities for a major research library; led strategic consulting services for a digital services agency specializing in open source web development for the cultural heritage sector; and consulted on projects for the Educopia Institute, the Next Generation Library Publishing project (NGLP), the Library Publishing Coalition, Candid, the Preservation of Electronic Government Information (PEGI) Project, the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

Dr. Nokuthula Mchunu

Dr. Nokuthula Mchunuholds the position of Deputy Director at the African Open Science Platform, which is hosted by the National Research Foundation in South Africa. With extensive expertise in academic outreach initiatives, science popularization, and the implementation of STEM activities within local communities, she previously served as a senior researcher at the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa in the Biotechnology Platform. Dr. Mchunu earned her doctoral degree in fungal genomics and spent over 15 years as a senior scholar in the Department of Biotechnology at Durban University of Technology.
Throughout her career, she has contributed as a scientist in various international institutions, including the University of Cincinnati (USA), Lund University (Sweden), Tianjin University (China), and the Centre for Chemical Biology (Malaysia). Dr. Mchunu holds the distinction of being the inaugural recipient of the Young Scientist Programme established between China and South Africa. Her research encompasses diverse areas such as Covid and pathogen surveillance in wastewater, fungal genetics, Cannabis, and African legume genomics.

Damita Snow (ORCID 0000-0001-8757-6464), CAE, ENV SP, is the Director of Accessibility & Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy, Publication, and Standards at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She was the founder and immediate past chair of ASCE’s Staff Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Council. In addition, she served as a co-chair for the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee at the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), where she is also a board member.

She has co-chaired the Publications Special Interest Group for the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE) and was a member of their Annual Meeting Committee. Rania Baleela has been a dedicated Open Science and Open Access trainer since 2012. Rania is the Founder of the first Sudanese institutional repository (OASCIR), a platform for openly sharing research. As the EIFL Open Access Country Coordinator, she has played a key role in advancing open access in Sudan and has trained librarians in this area. Rania is also the Founding Director of the Toxic Organisms Research Centre at the University of Khartoum. Her Ph.D. is in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine. Rania is deeply committed to promoting transparency and collaboration in research, and her work has had a significant impact on the research community.

Dr. Jia Ng, MD MSCE is a Board-certified Nephrologist and Assistant Professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell, New York. She is also the founder of PublishedMD, where she coaches clinicians on how to publish research papers, build authority, and achieve their academic goals without the overwhelm.
Since 2020, she has been giving Academic Writing Workshops and Seminars to Medical Departments that want to increase the scholarly productivity of their students and faculty members. She has been invited to speak at institutions around the US and internationally at King’s College London, UK and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - Mayo Clinic, Abu Dhabi.
She received her Nephrology Fellowship training and Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Pennsylvania, US. Currently, she is an active clinical researcher, and has received more than $1 Million Dollars of grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and Foundational Grants.

Emmanuel Boakye holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.
He is an African Open Science champion who has worked with organizations such as the Center for Open Science in the USA and the Association of African Universities (AAU). He was part of the panel of experts invited by the AAU to plan the 2022 Africa Universities’ Day Celebration, dubbed “Open Science: Bringing Equity to Research and Publishing” where he also presented on the “Global and Continental Perspectives of Open Science”.
He currently leads efforts to establish the African Reproducibility Network (AREN), a community-led initiative that seeks to bridge the gaps in open science advocacy and adoption through workshops and the establishment of local communities of practice at universities and research institutes across Africa.

Lucia Benkovičová was born in 1986 (in Galanta, Slovakia). She is a graduate in architecture from the Slovak University of Technology and in computer science from the Pan-European University, both in Bratislava, Slovakia. Lucia studied (in national languages) also in Austria, Germany, France, England, and Hungary.
Today, Lucia works as a publisher (editing articles, handling bookpublishing, proofreading and managing). She also evaluates research projectsfor Horizon Europe and the Slovak Research and Development Agency and lectures on The Security of Public Spaces, Open Access, Artificial Intelligence, and Virtual Reality.
She authored many articles and 2 books. Her research focus is crime prevention through environmental design and virtual reality. She has also gained several years of work experience outside academia, especially as a practicing architect (civil engineering) and in IT.

Dr. Ana Persic is the Programme Specialist for Science, Technology and Innovation Policies and Open Science at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
She is an ecologist by training with a PhD in Ecotoxicology, and she joined UNESCO in April 2006 in the framework of the UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere program within the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences in Paris. She has then served as a Science Specialist at the UNESCO Liaison Office in New York from 2011-2018.
Her work relates to strengthening the science-policy interface and promoting science, technology, and innovation in implementing the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development and sustainable development goals (SDGs). She coordinated the development of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science and she’s currently working towards its implementation.

Elliott Lumb is the co-creator of Signals, a product that helps to promote research and publication integrity.
In 2018, Elliott completed a PhD in medicinal chemistry at Monash University and the University of Nottingham. Following this, he held several roles at Frontiers, including a role within the Strategy and Planning team.
In 2021 Elliott launched PeerRef, journal-independent peer review platform. Elliott is also a consultant, helping publishers to grow and optimize their Open Access business.

Amanda French

Dr. Amanda French is the Technical Community Manager for the Research Organization Registry (ROR) at Crossref, where she works to promote the adoption of ROR to make information about research organizations cleaner and easier to exchange between systems. Dr. French is a well-known project director and community manager in digital humanities and scholarly communication. During the first year of the pandemic, she served as Community Lead at The COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic, working with more than 800 volunteers to collect and publish key COVID-19 data. Earlier, she managed the "Resilient Networks for Inclusive Digital Humanities" project at GWU Libraries, directed the Digital Research Services unit at Virginia Tech Libraries, and led the THATCamp unconference initiative at GMU's Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media. She was also part of the initial cohort of CLIR postdoctoral fellows.

From 2001-2012 she worked in various positions at the academic publisher De Gruyter in Berlin in the fields of biology and chemistry in both journals and book publishing. In 2013 she took on the role of managing director for ScienceOpen GmbH in Berlin.
Andrew Joseph

Andrew Joseph is the Digital Publisher at Wits University Press, and his publishing experience has largely been in academic and reference publications. Andrew has worked with most major European and US academic publishers including Springer Nature, Macmillan, Elsevier, Taylor &Francis, Wiley, and SAGE. He is closely involved with standards development and implementation, especially for metadata, persistent identifiers (ORCiD), and XML workflows for scholarly publishers, and serves on advisory boards and committees for Crossref, the Open Access Data Trust Exchange, CoalitionS and the ONIX International Steering Committee. Andrew currently serves as Chair of the Scholarly Publishers Committee for the Publishers Association of South Africa and chairs the South African National Metadata Users Group – a cross-industry metadata standards group.

Peter Nestorov earned his PhD in Genetics from the University of Basel, and he also holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Tübingen.
With a background in both genetics and biochemistry, Peter has been actively engaged in the emerging field of single-cell analysis since 2015. This involvement has not only provided him with valuable experience but has also sparked his vision to harness the power of single-cell data and artificial intelligence in uncovering groundbreaking and accurate biomarkers.

This presentation will provide an overview of FAIRsharing and how resource developers can get started describing their databases, standards and policies within FAIRsharing. Rebecca Lawrence is the Managing Director of F1000 Research Ltd. She joins Jo on this episode of our podcast to talk about fostering and upholding research rigor as a scholarly publisher.
Rebecca was responsible for the launch of F1000Research in 2013 and has subsequently led the initiative behind the launches of many funder- and institution-based publishing platforms partnering with the European Commission, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome and others, that aim to provide a new trajectory in the way scientific findings and data are communicated.
She was a member of the European Commission’s Open Science Policy Platform, chairing their work on next-generation indicators and their summary advice: OSPP-REC, and was Editor of their final report. She was also a member of the US National Academies (NASEM) Committee on Advanced and Automated Workflows. She has been co-Chair of many working groups on data and peer review, including for Research Data Alliance (RDA) and ORCID. She is a Steering Committee member of DORA (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment) and a Board Member of Open Research Central (ORC). She has worked in STM publishing for over 20 years, is an Associate of the Royal College of Music, qualified as a pharmacist, and holds a PhD in Pharmacology.

Ana Bergholz was born in Chile and after finishing her bachelor`s studies and collecting some experience in academia at the University of Valparaiso as well as working in culture-related enterprises she moved to Germany in 2010. She completed her master´s degree in International Tourism Management and during this time she spent an academic semester in Guangzhou, China.
After family time, since December 2021 Ana has been working on her PhD which focuses on Cultural Landscapes and how the transformation of landscapes impact local communities as part of the PhD Programme Heritage Studies.
Against many difficulties, she is trying to pursue her professional dreams and, hopefully, she will achieve them. She feels optimistic about this.

Natira McDermott is a public speaking coach who helps her clients create successful businesses by dropping perfectionism and embracing their own compelling visibility. Despite winning her first high school debate, Natira spent most of her life avoiding an audience. (The irony of her being a public speaking coach is not lost on her.)
Natira shares with us key skills that people (and researchers) who speak in public should have to become visible by speaking like themselves instead of a textbook. Prior to her coaching career, Natira spent 17 years at advertising and media agencies where she led teams in over 150 pitches and coached dozens of executive teams. Natira is based in New York City and provides individual coaching, executive leadership coaching, presentation, and public speaking workshops.

Zoë Mullan is the Editor-in-Chief of the open access journal, The Lancet Global Health. She is an Ex-Officio Board Member of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health; an International Advisory Board member of Sun-Yat Sen Global Health Institute, Guangzhou, China; and a Scientific Advisory Board member of the Centre for International Health Protection at the Robert Koch Institute, Berlin, Germany.
Between 2013 and 2017 she was a Council Member and Trustee of the Committee on Publication Ethics. She trained in Biochemistry at the University of Bath, UK, before joining the publishing industry in 1997 as a Scientific Information Officer with CABI. She moved to The Lancet in 1999, where she has worked since, variously as a technical editor, section editor, and founding editor of The Lancet Global Health.

As a consultant, Jigisha Patel works with organizations committed to research integrity to manage complex research integrity issues (such as paper mills) and develop preventative strategies to reduce the risk of research and publication misconduct.
As a trainer, she provides training for editors and research integrity teams on the management of research integrity issues. Her CPD certified Research Integrity Strategy Foundations Course is for new editors and publishing staff with responsibility for managing research misconduct. Multilingualism is a skill that most researchers have in international research consortia and groups and also need in order to be able to disseminate their findings through scholarly publishing. However, the difficulties in learning another language and deficiencies like grammar and spelling issues often cause challenges and backlashes to non-English native speakers. Avi Staiman and Jo share some of their experiences and observations made, as well as resources and best practices to foster a global and multilingual research environment. Kate and Jo talk about unhealthy stress in working and research environments and what measures each of us can take to gain and maintain a state of wellbeing again.
Mental health is too often ignored, and although it is talked about more openly now and especially since the pandemic, many of us pay lip service to that ethos, and when it comes to looking after ourselves, it’s business as usual. Appreciating others’ challenges is much easier to do than acknowledging our own, and yet the best thing we can do to help ourselves is to be real, honest, and pay attention to our feelings, habits, thoughts, and what our body is telling us.
This can help you get on the pathway towards emotional healing and wellbeing - there are 5 steps in my experience, and each one of them is necessary for long-term lasting positive change.

- Recognizing - when being triggered
- Changing - do things differently
- Healing = building resilience (work in progress throughout Life)
And there are 3 pillars on which to build the foundations of a healthy mind and emotional wellbeing - it also takes attention to all 3 to achieve lasting change.

Ludmilla Figueiredo is a research data and code curator coming from a background in ecology and conservational biodiversity. In this episode, she talks with Jo about the implementation of open science principles in the fast-paced and heavy workload researchers must handle.
I have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in Brazil, followed by a Master’s in Rennes, France, and finally, my PhD here in Würzburg, Germany. I focused my studies on ecological modeling, because I find that Ecology has a lot of contingencies at times, and models help me understand it better.
I have completed a postdoc studying the payment of extinction debts at the Ecosystem modeling group of the University of Würzburg, and, as of March 2022, I work as a data and code curator at the Data and Code Unit of the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig. Among my duties, I have to support researchers in the application of Open Science and FAIR principles. I am pretty sure that my participation in the “Freies Wissen” open science mentoring program (2020/2021 Wikimedia Deutschland) was crucial to my success in this new position.

Hugues Abriel, MD PhD, is a biologist (ETH Zurich, 1989) and physician (University of Lausanne, 1994). He completed his PhD in medicine and life sciences (specializing in medical physiology) at the University of Lausanne in 1995. Since 2009, Hugues Abriel has been a Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Bern. He is since 2022 one of the members (vice-rector for research) of the executive board of the University of Bern. Hugues Abriel is particularly interested in the molecular and genetic aspects of medicine. He has been in close contact with young doctors and researchers from French-speaking African universities for several years. He has just finished an academic sabbatical spent at the Universities of Kinshasa (the Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Fez (Morocco).

Stephanie Gauttier is an Assistant Professor at the Grenoble School of Management (GEM) doing research at the intersection of information systems, human-computer interaction, and ethics. She is the Vice-Chair of the COST Action CA 19117 Researcher Mental Health Observatory and is active in initiatives related to supporting researchers’ mental health. For the Marie Curie Alumni Association, Stephanie co-created a peer-to-peer mental health mentoring network.
Stephanie defended her PhD in management information systems in 2017. She has a Master's degree in Political Sciences and a Master's in Communication Sciences, and over five years of experience in the marketing industry. As a result, her research crosses disciplines and was applied to consumers (PhD), learners (EDUWORKS), and more recently to the healthcare domain (Responsible-Industry and GLASNOST). During her Postdoc she focused on Philosophy and Ethics. In 2018, Stephanie was awarded an individual Marie Curie fellowship, was nominated on the list of 400 women in the NL across all industries in the “bright mind” category in 2018, and received the Brenner award for her work in Q-methodology and phenomenology in 2019..

Mark Hahnel is the CEO and founder of Figshare, which he created whilst completing his PhD in stem cell biology at Imperial College London. Figshare currently provides research data infrastructure for institutions, publishers and funders globally. He is passionate about open science and the potential it has to revolutionize the research community. **Christian stares at goats to better understand how they perceive their physical and social environment. His main research interests focus on animal cognition (in particular farm animals), applied ethology, and animal welfare. He is engaged in activities to increase the accessibility and dissemination of research via Open Science and SciComm.

Joyce Wangari Ngugi has 16 years of experience in designing and implementing Psychology and Research programs. Her niche is empowering people with disabilities and special needs and their caregivers, particularly the Deaf. She is a founding member of Afrika Hai, where she uses Creative Art Therapies to co-produce knowledge in local communities and to restore African indigenous healing knowledge ways.
Wangari earned a global award at the American Psychological Association 2018 Convention on a study titled: Barriers to Mental Health Access for Deaf Adults in Kenya: A Review. She earned a Doctor of Psychology, PsyD, Clinical Psychology, at United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), where she was also a Doctoral Teaching and Research Assistant and the founder of the USIU-Africa Disability Policy and the Sign Language Club.
