Let’s get one thing clear...though I use the phrase time management, I don't believe that you can manage time. It is an uncontrollable resource that can't be replenished – not like water, food, money, clothes, or people even. – not water, food, money, clothes, or people even. The real problem? A misguided mindset that time can be managed. That is why there so many problems that make time management hard: procrastination, environment, organization, mindset, prioritization. But only one is THE top problem. In this episode, you will hear... 1. The number one challenge with time management 2. Residual effects of Parkinson's law 3. Truth is prioritizing is NOT easy. The tips and tricks of time management will have you believe that if you pick what's most important then you are on your way to solving your time issues. NOT TRUE! If prioritizing were that easy, there wouldn't be an Eisenhower Urgent/Important Matrix, Timeblocking strategies, or "big rock" analogies. Here is the real problem...your perception of prioritization needs a little tweaking. The assumption is that if something is not a priority, it's not important and won't get done. NOT TRUE! Priorities are determined by several factors: the time of day, the circumstances, the individual, the resources, etc. And because of the various nuances, what's priority today may not be a priority tomorrow. Have you ever wanted to incorporate a new habit into your regimen but felt you had no time? Try habit stacking. It is a practice that helps you to build routine around habits that require minimal effort. That's right! Less effort means less time. While this practice is often misconstrued with multitasking, the two are very different. Multitasking is the practice of attempting to do multiple tasks (sometimes unrelated) within the same period of time. It's similar to jumping back and forth between tasks. Habit stacking, on the otherhand, is a sequential process of small triggers that anchor a habit. The triggers are related to the habit that you want to form. Transforming your relationship with time is similar to other transformations. It requires a perspective shift in your understanding of time and its concepts. In this episode, you will hear three ways to begin transforming your relationship with time: 1. Managing time - what you think vs. what it actually is 2. Avoiding the productivity trap 3.
