At age 42, Andre was on the operating table for a routine check up and, in an instant, the room became a chaotic emergency scene. He was told, while conscious, that he probably won’t survive.

Andre grew up privileged until 12 years old, then faced intense racism throughout highschool, then went on to have a high flying “successful” career before unexpectedly losing his marriage and his relationship with 3 children for years. Most people don’t improve their lives with meditation. And it’s usually due to 1 or more of 3 reasons:

1 Their meditation acts like an escape: “Run away from your problems by distracting yourself with your breath”

2 Their meditation only works when they are in a quiet space with no distractions

3 They have no accountability, structure or support to be consistent and see exceptional results.

In this conversation, Jai Kith & Harry Goldberg share the form of meditation they have been teaching to groups and individuals alike.

They have seen their clients experience tremendous success in their emotional wellbeing, connection with loved ones and achievements in their careers and businesses.

There is also a basic guided meditation for you to practise, should you choose.

Priya has had a pretty extraordinary life so far. And what changed her direction is raw, authentic & inspiring.

At age 7, she was a professional “child prodigy” Indian dance performer. She’s completed 2 degrees in 3 years, 2 masters in 1 year, deferred medical degree and studied business instead, built incredibly successful businesses, been a high flyer business consultant and then one moment changed it all.

Her son’s first word was not “amma” or “mama”. It was “Priya”.

She quit her job, pursued connection, focused on family and reconnected with spirituality.

But perhaps the most inspiring part of Priya’s journey today is her marriage, her relationship with her children & her childrens’ success.

She shares how she and her husband went from the brink of divorce to a marriage to strive for.

She shares how she went from a nearly-absent mum to an inspiring parent guide.

Beth teaches, coaches, writes & speaks about how to live a joyful life.

Her message is worth hearing.

This conversation focuses on success from the perspective of how much you are enjoying your life. From a career perspective, are you feeling “Workjoy”? Or are you feeling “Workgloom”?

And specifically, it’s not about creating happiness in your life.

It’s about creating joy.

The small things which make life meaningful.

Should you work on your strengths? Should you outsource your weaknesses? Should you avoid the things you dislike doing? Should you avoid sacrifice? Should we bring our whole selves to work? When’s it time to make a change in your life?

These are the types of questions we explore.

Enjoy!

In a single moment at a company-wide town hall, Abby Gates almost ruined her career by speaking her mind rather than acting from her heart.

“Success is better shared”

In 2005, Abby started in recruitment and then progressed her way through to leadership and now VP of People and Culture at Render Networks. She’s a self proclaimed “startup junkie”, a mum of three daughters and a thought leader in delivering on her purpose of making her team’s work fulfilling.

“What seems huge today will be a blip in the future of your life”

We learnt what leadership really is.

We dived into what we can learn from parenting to become better leaders, friends & individuals.

And we explored what it means to pursue a more purposeful life.

Dave Powers found himself sabotaging his life again and again until he finally started seeing the patterns leading to a suboptimal life. He and his wife, Shan, created the Objective Personality System which highlights strengths, weaknesses, fears, desires & predictable patterns.

In this conversation, we explore the journey of how Dave & Shan created such an impressive personality model, why MBTI & big 5 simply aren’t effective enough and how you can start to apply a meaningful part of this framework in your life.

Many people talk about “playing to your strengths”, but that’s a limited approach to success.

We discuss the power of leveraging your strong suits as well as the importance of keeping your strong suits in check so that they don’t ruin your life.

We discuss working on your weaksuits but not to the extent that it debilitates you from taking empowered action.

Ultimately, your personality doesn’t need to define you…unless you choose to let it.

Dina seemed to have it all. She was co-founder & COO of a hyper successful tech startup, she was winning emmy awards as a tv news reporter & has was named one of Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs and Fast Company’s Most Influential Women of Web 2.0

That was until panic attacks and emotional turmoil left her literally unable to go to the office.

In her journey of healing, she discovered meditation and went on to teach others the life-changing practises which have transformed her world via her company, The Path.

If you’ve listened to our conversations with Henry Shukman (ep027) or Jai Kith (ep003), you will have learnt that the benefits of meditation are accessible and achievable regardless of your spiritual or religious beliefs. It’s a teaching which deepens your connection with what is and enhances your awareness of anxiety and ability to overcome stress.

We discuss what meditation actually is, what it can look like and how it can be used as a tool to literally change our brains, experience deeper connection & live more purposefully.

And we also explore how meditation has helped Dina specifically in overcoming her primary trigger of not being heard and her unconscious bias to always try and please others.

If you know anyone who wants to succeed in life but struggles to make the right choices at the right times because of their negative emotions, limiting beliefs or childhood experiences, then send them this conversation so they can be mentored by Dina Kaplan.

No doctors, therapists or herbalists could heal him. Henry Shukman overcame depression, anxiety & chronic eczema through journeying within. This is the lesson of his life.

Henry’s journey is from that of a child with depression, anxiety & chronic eczema, to a young man finding a sense of incredible joy, bliss & perfect skin while travelling for a few months. But then with many experiences of anxiety & depression, and skin which simply wouldn’t stay healthy, he found himself in the role of a zen buddhist teacher in a city far from home, guiding individuals from all walks of life.

And it’s clear that his journey was filled with ups & down, mentors, guides, challenges & unexpected gifts.

“Success was a source of great unhappiness because it was external”

Henry has an MA from Cambridge and an MLitt from St Andrews, has written several award-winning books of poetry and fiction, he’s taught mindfulness to some of the largest companies in the world, he leads Mountain Cloud Zen Centre in Santa Fe, he’s a coordinator of Rio Grande Mindfulness Institute & an associate master in the Sanbo Zen lineage.

Most importantly, he’s a loving father & husband. There’s even a moment in the podcast episode which proves it.

“We can try to ignore that [we’re all eventually going to lose everything] but facing and accepting it can be the single most valuable thing we do when spending our time.”

I’m truly humbled to be able to share Henry’s message with our listeners.

For this episode, put your notepad away and as long as you’re not driving, settle into a comfortable position, sit upright if possible, connect with your body, press play and, gently, close your eyes.

Chris Raine has struggled with alcohol and has (mostly) overcome the addiction as well as the depression which causes it. But what makes Chris's story unique is HOW he did it.

In 2009, Chris Raine undertook a year-long experiment to quit drinking. A nightclub promoter at the time, Chris blogged about the challenges and successes of this experiment when he woke up hangover-free every Sunday Morning signing off with “Hello, Sunday Morning!”

In the 10 years since first extending the challenge to his flatmate, Chris grew "Hello Sunday Morning" into a bona-fide health service. He has since left the organisation and has started new projects which he talks about in this conversation.

But this conversation isn't just about building an incredible community or overcoming alcohol.

This conversation is about how to make the world a better place through being the example that people need to see in the world.

It's about leadership with authenticity, allowing others to shine just as much as you do, finding partners who compliment your weaknesses and being true to who you truly are.

If you know anyone struggling with drinking just a bit too much alcohol, be sure to share this conversation with them!

The path wasn’t always easy for Ben. To the outside world Ben had it all... A successful career as a sales director, entrepreneur and business owner, yet behind closed doors, he was left grappling with the same issues that a lot of men face. Seemingly he was achieving in a professional sense, personally he was left feeling unfulfilled, disconnected from his family, unhappy and close to a state of depression.

By his own admission, he was showing up in business but nowhere else in life. Something had to change. It was at this point that Ben set out to educate himself and gain the knowledge and forge the systems and processes needed to reclaim his identity, reconnect with his family and set out on the path to a thriving life.

“The scale of Weakness to Strength is not about who can lift the most weights. It’s who can step into the discomfort of life.”

When Adam was in his late teens, he was the opposite of almost any definition of success.

He dropped out of high school, dabbled in martial arts and didn’t do all too much.

But then in his mid 20s, he started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, decided to find the Harvard of BJJ schools and moved to Brazil.

He lived there for a while, became the first and still only Australian black belt under Fabio Gurgel and at the time was the only non South American to teach at the Alliance HQ in Brazil.

He competed in the Pans & Brazilian nationals which are ridiculously high standards of the sport.

He then opened his Alliance gym in Sydney in 2018. Two years later, covid brought his biggest challenge in life so far but the community continued to support the gym by paying their memberships despite social distancing rules. The gym is now stronger than ever.

Adam’s a proud dad, husband & a leader of an amazing community.

This conversation is about being clear on what you don’t want so that you can immerse yourself in pursuit of what brings you joy, happiness & fulfilment.

It’s about how to hold yourself, your peers & and your students to higher standards.

And, more importantly, it’s about recognising the price you’re willing to pay for the success you want to achieve.

Vinh Giang is the son of Vietnamese immigrant parents who fled to Australia with almost nothing.

They wanted him to become a pharmacist, accountant, lawyer or doctor…and instead he became a magician, entrepreneur, international keynote speaker & educator to over 800,000 students from around the world.

“It’s important to sometimes do things you dislike because it can light a fire up your ass to make you go for the things you want”

But what I really respect about Vinh is that while he’s achieved success most can only dream of, he did it without forgetting his roots.

Without neglecting his family.

Without letting career destroy his joy for life.

“You need to learn to recognise the progress that’s outside the tangible realm”

This conversation is about creating an alternative reality for your life.

We discuss that the only alternative to overcoming your limitations is to believe that you are limited.

“My goal is to leverage resources to have more time & health”

Then, as a stark alternative to engineering, he founded #itallchangesfromhere, becoming a mentor on mindset & leadership for Chinese speaking members. After a couple of sales & management roles, in 2005 Nathan ended up moving to Potentia Recruitment as a consultant and worked his way up over the next 17 years to leadership and now board chair.

But what’s really fascinating about this career path is that since 2017 he’s been simultaneously a key investor at 6 start ups, board member at 4 companies, co-founder of Humi Group, an independent at Kiwi Innovation Network & the CEO & Co-founder of Rea.

Nathan’s a proud dad and in his words has been with the same beautiful woman for 27 years.

In this conversation we explore the power of applying your own value systems, experiences & pain to challenges.

Having a Maori father & a western mother, Nathan shares his experiences of growing up too brown and too white at the same time. He shares what came out of therapy and how he grew into the man he is today.

We define the subtle differences between Success as achieving outcomes & Purpose as living with intent. And just when you think you’ve arrived at your target, it’s time to widen the parameters.

David was just a kid who loved music and he became one of Australia’s most successful pop music writer-producers.

He and his high school friend created DNA Songs in the 1990s and have been on the map since the early 2000s. They have been writing, producing & mixing songs for well-known names like Delta Goodrem, The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy & Kate Alexa.

They’ve sold millions of records, and produced over 20 top 10s, 7 #1s & 3 apras.

But this wasn’t an easy journey without its challenges.

Imagine countless all-nighters leading to nothing & over a decade of rejection with almost no success to their name. And even when they had success needing to physically pull the Veronicas apart from killing each other in their studio…

“If you base the reason why you do something on the fiscal success, you’re always going to end up quitting”

David said it best when he said that “the heart of what you do must never be the money”. If you’re going to forgo immediate financial benefits then you must have more love, more passion & more dedication to your art than anyone else. You’ll then outlast everyone else and ultimately achieve success on your terms.

But this isn’t just about success in career & business.

This conversation is about all the gifts life has to offer…

…when you stay true to your heart.

“Working on yourself is just as important as working on your business.”

Sarah found herself in a very low place in life. Her family was not what she had dreamed it would be, she didn't find joy from her pregnancy and she felt she had little purpose in her life.

She healed her heart & found purpose at the same time by founding an incredible charity. She called it a band-aid for how she was feeling but it’s clearly so much more than that.

“It’s really hard to feel depressed…when I’m helping other people” - Sarah Page

The Kindness Collective is inspiring, empowering & facilitating others to share their wealth with others to live better lives.

This conversation is about recognising our privilege, treating everyone as family & being proud of who we are.

It’s about continuing to do what we know is right to become who we need to be.

"Success is about purpose and a feeling that I have one." - Sarah Page

This conversation will give you a new perspective and it might even make you inspired to help those who have so much less.

Ben has chosen his own path.

He started as an engineer in 2001 at Lendlease. 5 years later he became a finance manager, moved his way up to being national manager of project accounting & reporting, went to another big company as finance director, ran his own consulting business for 8 months, became 2nd in command to the CFO at Buildcorp and 1 year later became CFO.

And this whole time, he’s managed to build stronger connections with his wife & 2 daughters. He’s present with them and has been a source of inspiration for Harry as a young dad.

This analogy-filled conversation is filled with exceptional insights and perspectives about surrounding yourself with the right people, seeking out the right challenges, learning to move away from other challenges, enjoying life and what success really is.

"There were people I looked up to, people aspired to...where if I was doing that in 20 years time, I'd be really cool with that"

This conversation is about identifying your 10 year flag on the hill. Identifying your why, your principles & your values to make the right decisions for you and everyone else in your life.

"If you have that goal, that flag on the hill, saying where you want to go then it's easier to get the most of those situations."

Because at the end of your life, your success is never yours alone. It's always with support from others and to the benefit (or detriment) of others.

This is a longer episode so…

Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Michael has an abundance of positivity, emotion, love & energy.

He became a dad at 49, a single dad at 50, a solo dad at 51, set an Australian Powerlifting Record at 54, began studying Development Psychology at 56, and wrote his first book at 58.

—--

“We’re all a work in progress…I am eternally curious.”

—--

Michael is not our typical kind of guest. Most people interviewed have been highly successful at climbing the corporate ladder, building amazing entrepreneurial businesses or keynote speakers to tens of thousands of corporate and government employees.

But this podcast isn’t about financial success. It’s about holistic success. Success with Purpose.

The position Michael has climbed to, the title he’s earned, and the role which inspires so many would best be described as “Charlie’s Dad”.

—----

“Great parents don’t hoard power, they give it away”

—--

In this conversation, we talk about inequality, stereotypes and breaking the bias against all genders & roles.

We speak a great deal about parenting styles, the roles of fathers vs mothers, self-regulation & making decisions that invest in the next generation making the future a better place.

—---

“Things just are. But your attitude towards them can change”

—---

This conversation is about leadership in all areas of our lives, creating our own destiny and living life true to your values.

Don’t just follow the heard and fit into stereotypes. Challenge the norms, challenge society & challenge yourself.

You won’t regret it.

Talk about an energising conversation! Martin Buden is a private kind of guy and there is hardly anything about him online. And this is why I’m so excited to release this podcast. Because while everyone should know Martin Buden, very few people have had the privilege!

But here’s the basics. Martin took over an engineering company from his dad around 10 years ago and took it to the next level. He built it to an incredibly effective team taking on really profitable big jobs.

Martin has also redefined himself as a sculptor and inventor, a fully-fledged property developer literally re-engineering properties and most importantly, one of the proudest husbands & proudest dad’s I’ve ever met.

"People say they're opportunistic but they're just lazy & hopeful."

This conversation is about how to make decisions as a leader of others and yourself.

This conversation is about partnering with amazing individuals and getting the right people around you.

This conversation is about feeling more energised & passionate every day.

But what this conversation really tells us is how to develop a growth mindset. Martin doesn’t compare himself to anyone else. He compares himself today to who he was in the past. He faces a challenge, he overcomes them. He faces a loss, he just gets it back. He wants to make change in his life, he makes the right sacrifices.

"Compare myself to how I was 2 years ago. I'm fitter than I was 2 years ago. I'm wealthier than I was 2 years ago. I'm more in love with my wife from 2 years ago. I'm getting on better with my kids from 2 years ago. That's the only comparison. If I started comparing myself to Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk then hello depression!"

This episode is full of exceptional insights.

Get your pen and paper ready and enjoy!

Jai is an incredible human being. Or as he would put it, he is an ordinary human being who has had an incredible experience.

Want to receive email updates? Click here.

He was living a typical, determined, driven, success-focus existence until the GFC caused his business to lose everything. He was driving when he found out and he pulled over because of joyful, uncontrollable laughter. Instead of being distraught, angry or fearful, he experienced bliss, joy & euphoria for 2 weeks.

He felt like he was floating. All frustrations and pain disappeared. And in that moment, his life had changed forever. He explored different eastern spiritual practices. He became a monk at a Hindu temple in Hawaii. He changed his name, settled his debts, gave away all of his possessions and dedicated 100% of his time & focus to understanding the incredible experience “removing the logs from the river of life”.

Fast-forward 10 years and Jai is back in the “real” world. He has a business, does trading, got married, has a dog, bought a home. And he did it all from leaving the monastery in March 2020 with nothing to his name and just as the covid pandemic began.

This episode is about Jai’s journey from being in the rat race to enjoying life.

This episode is about the importance of stillness in everyday life.

This episode is about who we truly are.

But most importantly, this episode is about how we can each experience the bliss of this journey in life. It’s attainable to each and every one of us.

And once we reach it, life starts happening for us, not to us.

Success…just…happens.

Two words: "Holistic Success".

In a single day in October 2021, Harry Goldberg had 5 clients ask "How can I be successful?"

And underlying these questions was an uncomfortable truth: Most people can't live successful lives because they don't know what success actually is. And it seems to be driven by 3 core principles.

  1. Achieving goals greater than anyone else expects of us

  2. Enjoying most days and waking up excited for what's ahead

  3. Creating a lasting positive impact on our families and the world

The Success with Purpose podcast talks and discusses success stories from the lenses of extraordinary people who have found their calling and were able to experience achievement and enjoyment that deeply impacted their lives and the lives of others.

By sharing their experience on how they navigated their path to holistic success, Success with Purpose aims to empower listeners in defining the meaning of "Success" in their lives, in finding the right mentors & in achieving their goals.

Rachel started out as a school teacher for younger children for seven years and eventually she realised that most learning happens at home, not at school.

And she saw that the parents of the children in her classes lacked the skills & knowledge to be the best they could be for their kids. And she also realised that she had the skills and experience to help them. So she set up a business to teach them how!

Since then she has been giving keynote speeches to 10,000s of corporate & government employees about parenting & mental health, coaching parents 1 on 1, creating amazing education courses AND being a present and loving mother of four the whole way through.

This conversation looks at how to be great parents & colleagues with empathy and compassion. Especially how to manage your own and their emotions in all interactions.

But what this conversation is really about is the experience of life when you live authentically, pursue your passions and what happens when we never stop learning, never stop loving & never stop living our unique purpose.

“Habits, Routine & Discipline are the three legs of getting s&#t done.”

- Josh Comrie -

----more----

This conversation is about how each of us must take responsibility for our own lives.

How we must set intentions for each part of our lives and use discipline, habits & routine to provide ourselves with the greatest potential to live the lives we dream of.

It’s about personal responsibility.

It’s about prioritising our spiritual experience over the pursuit of pleasure.

It’s about leaving this world in a better place than how we received it.

And it’s about living as your authentic self.
