When we think of famous cryptids, Bigfoot, Yeti, and chupacabra come to mind, but Japan has its fair share of mysterious creatures. The first recorded sightings of o mysterious sea serpent-like creature, dubbed Mossie, date back to the early 1970s. Much like Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster, Mossie is often described as a serpentine creature with humps that emerge from the deep, dark waters of Lake Yamanaka, one of the five picturesque lakes surrounding Mount Fuji. In this episode of Supernatural Japan, we learn more about Mossie.

It’s “Spooky Season” and we’re back! The Halloween holiday has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (SAH-win), a pagan religious celebration. It's hugely popular in America and Canada, but its popularity in Japan has grown steadily over the past few decades. From the festivals, parades and zombie chases at Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan, to children's Halloween parades and trains filled with drunken foreigners, Japan puts its own unique twist on the event. Although Obon in August is the true spooky season in Japan, many Japanese people also love to party and celebrate on October 31st!
