Join me in this very special discussion with Sylvia Boahene, a Martenal and Motherhood Wellness Coach, Author, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Mentor, and Advocate. Sylvia experienced post-partum depression and anxiety which was quite severe despite her not being hospitalised for it. This affected her ability to care for herself and to be confident in mothering her children.During this tumultuous time, Sylvia also experienced a relationship breakdown resulting in the end of her marriage through divorce. In this podcast session, we will be discussing her journey from postnatal depression, getting divorced, and her COME-UP as she is now helping many women overcome postpartum depression and anxiety including, finding themselves post-divorce. This is a needed podcast in our community of Black and Brown people who face disparities in mental health care and also because these subjects are somewhat 'taboo' and often 'stigmatised' in our diaspora community.Through all this Sylvia's Ministry was Birthed. Sylvia is running a FREE Masterclass on the 22nd of September, at 7 pm UK time. Dealing with adversity or challenges is never a welcome experience.

It can feel like a ‘never ending’ cycle of problems if you are like me. Itsure gets tiring, yet we Believers in Christ were warned that we will face adversity and afflictions.

If we were warned, why do we struggle when adversity comes knocking in our lives?

Well, adversity is uncomfortable.

Adversity can cause us pain.

If you want to know how to go through adversity well, meaning thriving above the discomfort and pain. This is the podcast for you.

God’s word in James 1:2-4 tells us to “count it ALL JOY” when we encounter various trials and tests of our faith which produces the fruit of steadfastness and perfecting us completely such that we LACK NOTHING.

When God allows adversity, we can be tempted to think HE is punishing us and yet He is GROWING US.

Enjoy listening to this episode and below are the scripture references mentioned in the session.

  • Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all (Psalm 34:19).
  • But he said to me, “my Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”. (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes (Psalm 119:71).
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).
  • Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest (Matt 11:28).
  • Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial, for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord haspromised to those who love Him (James 1: 12).
  • And we know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

In this podcast episode, I will be speaking on Shame.

Shame is one of those words that when I hear, I think of something embarrassing, or humiliating, and that has the potential to ruin someone's reputation.

It is not a word I like because it just sounds so negative, judgemental, and labeling. We cannot deny it but Shame is a human experience that does not discriminate on who will feel or experience shame. There are many reasons for that which I will address in this podcast session.

I will be delving into;• exploring what Shame is and its effect on us.• exploring the biblical origins of shame and what feeds into shamebeing in our lives.• addressing how to BEAT shame and find freedom for yourself. • sharing my shame story and how this led to me overcoming shame and the shame effects.

I will be sharing from biblical scripture and giving you practical tools on Beating Shame for good.

Prepare yourself for breaking FREE and breaking through as You are released to live and be set Free from the clutches of shame.

Guilt is one of those things I do not like to face or be labelled with.

Can you imagine it, "she is guilty as charged"? It just does not read pleasantly at all hence even criminals do their best to hide their crimes so I bet not many people are happy to be associated with being found guilty.

Despite all this, we too often in life find ourselves experiencing some type of guilt or are accused of some wrongdoing leaving us with the dreaded feeling of guilt.

In this Podcast, I will be exploring GUILT and I will be dissecting guilt into layers so that we can better know if we are :

  1. guilty of an offence and need to be charged

  2. experiencing guilt but aren't guilty.

I will discuss false guilt, the presentation of hidden guilt and its impact on the individual. There is also the dilemma of 'guilt-tripping' which tends to leave us 'icky' and can be a real challenge to manage in our relationships with others.

Don't worry! for as much as I will be discussing guilt, I have 8 solutions to becoming Guilt Free that you can take away from this episode and apply to your life, starting from today.

Remember to answer questions at the end of the podcast episode show notes description below.

Today’s podcast topic is titled “Acts of Service – Acts of Humanity”.

I am talking about all things Acts of Service and I also want to go into what I call “The Martha Syndrome” as it is largely tied to acts of service.

There is a twist to this podcast as It is not all about Acts of Service as we can serve from the wrong motives and spirit which will not help us grow or help us relate with others from a good and healthy place. Enjoy listening and having a thought-provoking discussion on the subject of “Acts of Service”.

What are Acts of Service?

When you speak the love language of acts of service, it means you feel loved when others do things for you such as helping you around the house with chores, doing service tasks for you like shopping for you, helping you with the baby, doing your gardening, doing the cooking for you, etc.

•Acts of service communicates to the receiver of that love language that you care for them by being aware of their needs and choosingto help them.

•It makes them feel loved when you serve and do things for them.

Why Acts of Service – Acts of Humanity?

In the singles edition of Love Languages, Dr. Chapman makes a statement and it was so profound that the statement is “one of the fundamental languages of love is Acts of service”.

Scriptures References used in Podcast:

  • The greatest of all is the servant (Matthew 23:11).
  • It is better to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).
  • Serve one another humbly in love (Galatians 5:13).
  • God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another (1 Peter 4:10).
  • Share with the Lord's people who are in need, practice hospitality (Romans 12:13).
  • If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? (James 2:15-17)
  • Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you (John 13: 15-17).
  • For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread (2 Thessalonians 3:11-12).
  • At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention (1 Timothy 5:13.)
  • Serve unto God and not as men-pleasers (Ephesians 6:6).
  • Proverbs 31 Woman, (Proverbs 31: 10-31).

The virtue of Acts of Service is great and a great asset for you wherever you go.

In our world, men and women of service are seen, awarded, and celebrated. Think Mother Theresa or Florence Nightingale.

Action for Happiness is an organisation that was started with a vision for a happier world, where everyone can thrive.

Action for Happiness found that “GIVING” is the Number 1 key to happiness.

Service should be purposeful and when our cup is full, we can serve and give well. When it is empty we get depleted fast and it is no good for our overall well-being physically, mentally, and spiritually.

So after the Adele and Oprah Winfrey interview. Adele talked about her obsession with a nuclear family and likely wanting to create that for herself plus break 'generational patterns' too. She isn't comfortable with herself for choosing her own happiness but messing up her sons life. She really brought up many points that I believe are so relevant to today's society and culture. I really go into detail with questions in this Podcast. I saw the younger and could truly identify with Adele in many ways which was scary. In this podcast I seek to generate a discussion and hopefully share the empowered way forward. Please do share your own thoughts too as I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. Thank you

I tackle the notion that "it takes a village to raise a child." I find that a cultural shift took place in the lives of Mothers and Women from the Black & migrant communities. We once lived and did life as one big community. However, being in the Western world has led to a breakdown down of the 'traditional village' into more independent and separate living. Dare I ask; could that be a contributory factor in poor maternal mental health in our community? It is well known that motherhood is challenging albeit socially isolating as well. When one is distanced from their community and have unmet needs within their community too such as those of a new mother. I can understand why some maternal mental health challenges occur. This podcast is to challenge the narrative, address the stigmas and most importantly lead to EMPOWERED solutions that any mother or woman can use to bring a paradigm shift into their situation. Happy listening
