I was out and about before anything got really messy. A crowd was gathering at the congreso building as I was wheeling around. A friend asked me to snap some shots or video when things are going nuts here. I guess I am playing the part of a citizen journalist of sorts.
Funny how you can have the sidwalk and foreground all level in front of you, but then the huge building in the background seems to be build uneven. This was taken with my phone and I was hoding it level.
The video shows what the plaza looks like today as they attempt to put down new sod and water it. Then you have a bunch of protestors who have a different idea. They want to petition their government about the price of food.

I just got home from the #HiveMeetupArgentina and what a day it was.
This is the last video I can post today. The others had technical difficulties, some of which were just shoulders or backs of heads. I have audio though - with some editing, I may be able to put together another video for the people who could not attend. These are especially great for those who wanted something in #spanish - I hardly ever post in Spanish because my spelling might be wrong or the words I chose may be laughable.

I have had these dough things with hot dogs inside, but these were cheese filled. The sauce had cilantro in it. I had opted to eat a doughnut when snack time came but I had to try these when they came out.

Big moving day!
My son moved out about a year ago because he wanted some privacy with his better half, which is understandable.
They had moved out a year ago to a "hotel familiar" where they had one room with a shared kitchen and several shared shower/bathrooms. These are common here in Argentina. I even lived in one of these years ago before moving to the city center.
This week, they rented an apartment outside the city. It is a bit far away, see the map in the video, but they are right near the train and closer to the electric bike, wheel, and scooter shop where he works repairing these amazing vehicles.
Here is a picture of my youngest as we prepped to up end the bed and fix a weak or broken leg on it.
I had to make a video and get the new apartment walk through uploaded so that we have an idea of when this nice young couple got into their first rental apartment. The move was on the eight of October and it took me this long to get to transferring the pictures and video to my computer.
It is only five minutes long, but you will have a chance to see what $35,000 Argie-pesos would get you in the way of rental property. If you are still calculating life's costs in u$s that is $121.00 per month.

Welcome Message
This presentation was given by @numa26 introducing some of the organizers of #HiveMeetupArgentina and where they are from.
She notes how it all came together and what an international community here. We have a large population of immigrants living in Argentina, of which I am one.
I can't say that I understand everything I hear in #spanish and I do not usually make Spanish a part of my posts because I worry about spelling and word choices that usaully bring snickers when I talk in my second language.
This is a huge step for Hive in Argentina and I met at least twenty new users some yet to get an account and others who had @usernames but did not know how to make a blog post well.

Well, the video has a slow start sI wait for the elevator to take me up to Cowork Obelisco, where the event is being held, but what a getting I got.
Then I had several people hovering me the full Argentino welcome, including a hug and the customary kids on the cheek.
This video shows all of the above with a pause while I say hello to each and every one of the some 37 attendees. Then I do a quick deep of the facility.

Its the first warm day of spring!
I took the day off and did 13 miles (21km) in the nature reserve, plus the to and from home.
Join me on my Kingsong S18 as we do six hours of walking in less than an hour. But that doesn't mean I was going fast the whole time. I did not add any music this time because I wanted to test a home made anti wind noise solution and I want to see how many sounds will be picked up
then I will make more modifications if necessary.
At higher speeds, I can still talk 18" from my phone while it is in the stabilizer. Both loud and soft sounds are picked up just fine.
There is the city and Puerto Madero on one side (west) and the Rio de la Plata on the other (east),with lots of trails and wildlife in between. I even saw a fisherman checking his covid-flab, but I did not see it until I was editing at home.
People have seen me on the S18 and other unicycles for almost ten years, but they seem to be surprised that I am not on a bicycle (invented in 1817) and none have moved onward to the one wheel world. I was hoping to avoid a lot of the screaming and pointing (plus questions on how it works) so I could have a quiet ride through the nature reserve.
There were some small outbursts inside and a bunch of wows as I exited the reserve.
Although my hands are free as I drive with my feet, it is still hard to drive well, while manipulating a joystick on the gyroscopic stabilizer. I will do more dialogue now that I know that wind noise is not a factor. What do you think (suggest)?

When my son enjoyed it, shown in the first video, I made it a point to go and buy a few more and give them to the other "kids". Yes, these are my kids and they are still kids to me.

Note, we had just finished changing out the rear tire on my son's electric motorcycle. We had ordered food and headed out to his girlfriend's work to bring her food.

My youngest and I head out to find new and interesting places and stuff on weekends. He used to point at street vendors and ask, "Can I have one?"
Since then, he wants transportation, clothes and the teen kind of stuff. This weekend his kid side was sparked and he asked for one of those little items. I missed that!
He was really surprised at how easy it was to get me to fork over two hundred for this little device. That's seventy cents as the paper money here turns to banana peels - value wise. He still thinks that a hundred peoso is a lot of money, cuz it says 100 on it.
The context of this video is: When he learned how to make it work - I was surprised it did work. I was laughing my ass off and shot a short video demonstration.

A bit of background
This is the younger of my two snakes. She's an albino Burmese python and her cagemate is a 10-year-old boa constrictor. Goldie and Pancho are their names.
Last time I went to feed them, everything went well but Goldie had some red marks on her back. Goldie usually bites herself when eating smaller prey and I thought that she had opened up an old wound so I gave her a bath afterwards.
The marks did not come off. As a matter of fact, the latter half of her body was a giant water blister.
All that happened on March 16th of this year and since then, I have been to and from the veterinary clinic many days in a row followed by every week once a week until now. I am continuing to give her shots every day along with baths and ointment for her entire body in order to help her survive whatever caused this. Up till now, the cause is unknown.

Once we found the safer route, I was able to get a continuous video from the Costanera Norte near Aeroparque all the way back to Puerto Madero's Yacht Club. The route we found will allow us to travel to the driving range and gokart track without going on the bus.
There is nothing better than riding the city and discovering new places to ride. There is a route that hugs the shore where only container truck ventured previously. Renovations are turning the area into route for bicycles, off-the-beaten-path as of now, but soon to be the new main drag.
You will also see a glimpse of the latest addition to our green-new-vehicles. We got one of the first ones to enter the country. My son has learned to take it slow with this powerhouse e-bike. I will have the unboxing up over there soon, then some of our experiences with it.
You may not ever get a chance to venture down to South America, but today you can spend a half hour and see some of the sites with us on a very hot and very windy day!

Epic Ride on One Wheel!

I have made this journey many times but never while filming and never this fast.
I snagged this video just after buying the new KingSong S18. You will notice that I did not crank up the speed at first. Actually this wheel is capable of doing 35 mph but I stayed well below that on my first ride.
Riding home from the Electric Unicycle dealer though grass, dirt, forest, and spiral ramp at the end. The video ends when I had the bright idea to ride down a staircase. I have only ever ridden down the occasional curb on my previous wheels.
The helmet was purchased after I narrowly escaped the fall presented on this #video - I ask that you all take a moment and knock on wood as I tell you that I have not fallen while on a unicycle in over five years. The wood need knocking now that I said it. Oh, and I let that taxi pass me...

Watch as this old man does a first time racing game. Not sure the name of it but it is the same one my son posted about recently.
First off, I don't usually play games so this is out of the norm for me.
I am a pilot, and last video you watched me game if the plane was real and that I had to bring it down safely.
Today it is racing 🏁 My son @rx7 left his computer here for a day or two and I decided to give it a shot because he has a steering wheel and pedals that are supposed to make it more real. They do, but there is a half second of lag time which makes recovering from a skid at high speed nearly impossible.
Other than that, it makes the game feel way more real than playing with a mouse or W A S D keys.
I used a tripod / camera aimed at a second monitor to capture this while I played off to the side. I did not use a had set and the little talking I do was me turning my head and yelling over to the camera.
I am well versed in Hive but not so much on cameras, gaming capture and the like.
The game is Assetto Corsa. If you have nothing to do and want to see a middle aged man getting behind the screen of a black spider and hitting over 200 km/hr - Take a look. There are lots of spectacular crashes, and I am still in the virtual hospital from them.

My youngest is going on two years with the same girl and they are like two peas in a pod. I happened to walk past and see their idea of fun for an hour.
She asked if she could do his face. He had no objections and she started in on his face - you will have to see the video.
My son is comfortable with his maleness and does not care who sees him when @strident paints his nails or gives him a goth makeup job. When I was a kid, my brother was the same way. Any teasing went right over his head. He did not care. My son, @rx7 is the same way.
He loves his lady and she loves him!

Last post on this topic, I told you how it happened. The why it happened is a bit more interesting. Big Brother My youngest, featured in this video, has always lived in the shadow of his big brother who is three years older. Nobody picked on him in school because his brother was there. Every time I went to teach @rx7 something, the older one would cut in and show him how it is done, but now that his big brother is out of the house and is making his own life with a beautiful woman, my youngest has my full attention and I have his.
Games Both boys loved Steam and have played thousands of games. They would spend the entire day on the computer. At first, they would take turns and set timers for equal time. Then I got them each a computer and they could play at the same time. I was thinking that they would use the time they did not spend waiting - then have more time to get out and play in the sun and fresh air. I was wrong.
Girls My older one has now moved on to a serious relationship and only has time to game late at night and only if he is not too tire. The youngest wanted to buy more realistic interface devices for his computer (to meld with it?). He also has a girlfriend but they both like games and will sit for entire days doing nothing else if allowed to.
Driving In the old days, I would plan trips to the beach for no other reason than to get them away from the computer screens. It always worked and we made some great memories - see my beach series about a month ago. Last Sunday, I gave @rx7 a taste of what it would be like to actually control a working machine in the real world!
I believe he was burying himself in games because the objective of getting a car seemed unattainable to him. He knows about Hive and that there is money (and friends) to be made here but if the only goal you have is a USB Steering wheel for your racing game, then you do not really have any reason to post and make money after you obtain that input device.
He came home from "Driver's Education" seeing his input devices as weak and childish. This was a reality check, but a good one. So many in life have a reality check when they over spend or over do it at the bar. This one is good because he will now put away childish things, or at least put them in their place. He is now loaded with questions about the steps to getting a car, insurance costs, taxes, licensing, etc.
I would guess that the driving populations here in Argentina is only about thirty percent or so. I know very few people with cars. The government requirements, hoops you need to jump through that is, are many and layered.
Let's say you have cash. You see a new Mazda and pay for it at the show room. You do the paper work and then go home in a taxi. You can have your new car (the one that was in stock) after six weeks to two months, while that car goes though the registration process, getting its papers, taking its test to become legal.
For my own freedom, I drive vehicles that cannot be stolen (unless you can run away while carrying sixty pounds), need no licensing, insurance, helmets, or parking garages.
There are a lot of hoops, yes. But if @rx7 evver wants to get a car, he will have to complete the steps, which means money (work) and compliance. But mostly, unplugging from the time wasting Steam Matrix.
In the video, you will see a boy, who is of legal age to drive, learning what it is like to pilot a vehicle. In three hours, he went from a nervous wreck trying to think, navigate, steer, clutch, shift, and brake all at the same time into a young man who could manage all of them well, and smoothly.
At the end of the video, you see the transformation taking place as he does his first solo! Me? As a pilot, I know this is an important step - getting in and going it alone. He had trouble with the hand brake, he also stopped looking backwards before the car had stopped while backing up, but he drove well and brought it back safely. The car owner was very worried that he would drive onto the highway and be gone. Most kids in this country would, then they would laugh about it. My boy respects parents, rules, and other's property.
His second solo and subsequent laps around the entire field are not in this video. There is not much to see, he is driving away and gone then comes back several minutes later. I an indebted to my neighbor, who hung with me through a nervous time for me. He also cooked a delicious "Asado" while my son used his car. I paid for lunch and gas, but he cooked the food and washed the car afterwards.

I was running a lot of errands today, and @rx7 was at school. I ran to change out some green paper for orange paper - $ to pesos.
Then I stopped for KFC.
To the clothing store for some sweats.

I had bee planning to buy an electric bike later this week, but I was really worried about injuries if I were to get it.
As you can see this might be mistaken for an actual motorcycle and the police might think we should license it or something. Plus, it goes over forty-five miles per hour.
As much as I have always wanted a dirt bike and would like to have my son learn to ride something like this (and they are importing them into this country - first batch arriving now), I had a couple of sleepless nights picturing my sixteen year old in the hospital.
Checking out last minute options before I pull the trigger on the dirt bike / electric bicycle (left), I swung into my favorite electric vehicle store and they had new bikes that look like bikes but act like motorcycles. I asked prices and showed them what I was planning to buy. They put on the hard sell and pushed one of these at me to test drive (never had they done that before). I left my electric wheel there in the store and took of riding - took it all around the pink house and up and down the avenues. Then I though of my son. He would really love this. I went with the safer option (right).
It has fully functional peddles and 20 plus speeds, then the drive motor has a 20 mile range for when peddling is too tiring. Now his vehicle goes faster and longer distance than my wheel. I will be upgrading mine this week in order to keep up with my new twenty-five mile an hour kid.
The brakes are able to haul him down from those speeds quickly as well - and I will sleep better.

Today I am going to put some of my carnivorous plants into new pots to give them clean moss before summer comes. Since I usually talk to myself while doing this task, I thought I would turn on the camera and let you all in on my lunacy.
How are they carnivorous? Well, they do not eat burgers or randomly attack stray dogs. They eat bugs.
There is no running or chasing, no fly swatters. The bugs see the shiny globules of enzyme or smell the fragrance, they land, and they get stuck. Most bugs enjoy their extended stay, they try to clean their legs off, and then they seem to get stoned and lethargic. Maybe they are drunk - I have never asked one. Hey One, are the bugs drunk?
No answer...
These plants change in winter. They get thicker leaves and conserve energy. Mine are under a grow light on a timer and fed less often than in summer. They get kind of ugly actually.
I am going to drop the ugliest ones into some clean moss today just in case mold or some sort of pathogen had gotten into their moss over winter. I will explain roots and why they need distilled water (no fertilizer or nutrition - they get that from bugs). Then I will show you some of the larger plants and some of their babies.
I only have Butterworts (aka Pinguiculas) and Drosera Carpensis. My other species were sold or died over winter. I will be getting more Venus Flytraps, Filaformis and Binata Multifida in a few weeks. The warehouse does not like to sell plants until they perk up in the warmer weather. For today, you get to see plant maintenance and some of the many babies that have sprouted up.

Yeah, I am a real pilot but it is really hard to rent a plane here in the land of devalued currency. So I fly a bit using a simulator that my youngest clone suggested to me. The word "pilot" can mean anything, so let me be a bit more specific. I am certified to fly planes that have a single engine and operate on land. I am not IFR rated which allows me only to fly in clear weather, day or night.
I want to show you a couple of things today. One, this plane in a 36 knot headwind will land like a helicopter. You end up fighting to move forward enough in order to even get to the runway. When you get over the runway, you then land, with full flaps, at less than one mile per hour.
Second, the crosswind makes you line up to the side of the runway on descent so that by the time you are low enough to touch down the wheels will have the runway under them. In other words, you are blown back over the runway while descending. In a real plan, you would also have the option of "crabbing" on the way in, then using the rudder to rectify the sideways motion.
The simulator has two or three things that are a bit off when compared to a real plane. The one I chose on the simulator is the real plane in which I have logged hundreds of hours. The simulator has the speed at which the plane lands off a bit. Also, cross wind landings need separate rudder and roll controls, as mentioned above, which is not possible as far as I can configure.
I did a couple landings and the video is less than ten minutes long. This is the plane I learned on, a Cessna 152, but I am thinking of seeing what I can do on other kinds of aircraft without training. Let me know if you want to see me learning by trial and error. I am thinking - commercial jet.

Out walking today, we stopped for some crepes, which is always a delight. This quaint little crepe shop is nestled in the Mercado of San Telmo. It had shut down for a bit when the plandemic overreaction was in full swing, but now it appears to be back.
We ate at the bar, but the cute little lunch area is worth a picture, half painted depth and some real fresh veggie stand as part of the decor.
Swinging the camera left, we see the tables spilling out into the walkway where an accordion player plays national hits. My son said his music made it feel like we were in France, I am no expert.
Lower left, my son and his fingernails - a suggestion by his girlfriend, "Hey let's pain your nails!" and he is willing to appease her. We ordered what looked good.

I was just going to make a video about the cabbage that I had planted. That was mid August, on the day I started fabricating this hydroponic system on a wall. Here is what it looked like when I applied rooting hormone and stuck it in the ground.
It is the darker green plant to the left of my lunch.
The head of lettuce was blocking the sun for our little cabbage patch plant, so I am harvesting all but one leaf of it.
There. This should help it grow.
What a difference six weeks makes from something you would throw away, into a nice cabbage plant.
Take a look at the video. I take you around the rest of my garden. Seedlings and re-rooted plants, including a new squash plant from seed, spinach and lettuce from seed and from throwaway stalk, chives, celery and tomatoes.
Remember those microscopic celery plants that I germinated on August first? They were under a tent in one of my posts. Well they are still tiny but getting their mature leaves now. Here...
They are only about an inch tall!
Celery, parsley, and chives are the ones always buy but never use all of when cooking. I got tired of throwing away 60% of what I bought, so enter my interest in vegetable plants!
It all stems from the old saying waste not want not and my love for cooking.
No wasted food in the garbage and no wasted trips to the veggie stand for parsley.
