When it comes to discussing the challenges of pushing for a place as one of New Zealandโ€™s top athletes, Samโ€™s perspective reflects his signature combination of tenacity and honesty.

A lot of the time we find ourselves stuck in an infinity loop whereby we waste valuable time looking at content that seems to entertain primarily our sense of pleasure. The question that seems to linger about through the entire podcast episode is how do we actually distinguish what is quality content and how do we actually know that we have encountered it? In this episode, Tyler talks about his academic journey and gives some incredible insight on social media, digital quality vs. quantity.

Tyler Shores is currently a researcher, lecturer and program manager at the University of Cambridge. He manages the ThinkLab where research expertise from Cambridge students and research partners work together with other organizations to tackle big picture problems such as climate change, diversity and the future of AI. Tylerโ€™s research is focussed on social media and digital habits where he asks questions like: โ€œWhat gets people to click on this? Why it motivates people to be on their devices?โ€. He received his Masters in English from Oxford University and is currently completing his PhD at Cambridge University. Tyler is also currently working on a book on digital distractions that is hopefully to completed by 2022.
