AFRI-ANNIVERSARY

We started off in @music-community as Highlife weekend, and ultimately, we became “Afri-tunes” Weekend to encompass the wide genres under the umbrella of the niche: “African tunes.”

We moved to our newly created community on Hive, and we took the challenge head on. As a community, we persevered, struggled and remained consistent together, and now we celebrate one year of our journey on Hive.

As a way of Marking this milestone we planned and actualized three special events:

☆ Firstly, we made the lovely Afri-tunes Branded T-Shirt, which has a QR code that takes you to ecency.com signup page when scanned.

☆ The second event is the sponsorship of two of our members for an online professional guitar academy managed by one of the best guitarists in Nigeria, and in West Africa.

☆ For the third event, we hosted a music and writing contest, where we received a total of 34 entries: 27 music and 7 writing.

Still basking in the euphoria of the fun and celebration, we received a lovely artwork from @maxwelmarcusart, which is a creative drawing of the Logo of Afri-tunes. We also received a lovely badge sponsored and designed by the wonderful @hivebuzz team.

ENTRIES FOR AFRI-ANNIVERSARY

The Afri-Anniversary event of our lovely Afri-tunes community was held from 3rd to 9th March, and this was an event to celebrate the first-year anniversary of our wonderful community. We had thirty-four (34) entries: twenty-seven (27) in the music category and seven (7) in the writing category.

WRITING CATEGORY 📝

We received 7 entries in the writing category, and these entries were judged based on the following criteria:

Adherence to the posting guidelines (use of title, tags, word count limit, citation, no duplicate entry and deadline for submission)
Creativity
Originality
Writing Style and minimal typographical/grammatical errors

Based on the criteria above, three entries stood out and they are (in no particular order):

MUSIC: THE LANGUAGE OF AFRICA (pidgin English) by @chelsie-b

"Kajad African na who I be,
And na correct African blood wey dey flow inside of me,
African music na the language of our spirit,
Where words fails, Na ein African music dey speak,
African music no dey ever die.
Instead, ein go refresh our memories."

@chelsie-b creatively composes a poem in Pidgin English which extols the greatness of African Music; its magical nature, strength and how it is a binding force for Africans.

MY FAVOURITE AFRICAN TUNES by @sholex94

"Music is one of those things that connect people together irrespective of their gender, age, country, etc and it has in so many ways helped me, I can't even quantify or say how much it had aid me in living a good life. Sometimes when am bored or not in a good music and I listen to music I feel very much okay and rejuvenated.
Anyways, I don't usually listen to secular music, just once in a while, the genre of music i do is mostly Gospel. Probably because I'm a church boy, a member of the choir and so on."

@sholex94 speaks about his personal journey with music, his top favorite songs and amazing Gospel artists. He also speaks about his joys and hopes for Afritunes project on Hive.

JOHNNY AND I by @icyink

"It all just kind of happened, it was love at first sight, no I would say, love at first listen.

So he released his first single in 2015, wait for me ~ Johnny Drille. I was in my dad's car heading to school, when suddenly the radio station started playing his song. I fell instantly even though I didn't know the name of the song then. I wrote down the lyrics hoping to find out the name of the song. I didn't have an android phone so I couldn't even search for it."

@icyink takes us into her world of fiction, and carries us along in her journey of love with the Nigerian artists, Johnny Drille. She goes into details to describe the emotions the had from her secondary school days, when she nurtured deep affection for him, till this moment as she aims to be a devoted fan.

Afri-tunes is a rising community that is founded on Hive to nourish and enrich the Hive Musical Family (and the Hive Community at large) with African Tunes and Musical Genres.

It is our sole aim to spread the love, the calmness, the smiles, the culture, the songs and the dance associated with African tunes.

We intend to encourage more content creators to upload quality musical contents using 3speaks and sharing it to enrich the Hive Musical Family.

Afri-tunes event will now be a weekly event, and this will run from 00:00 on Fridays to 23:59 (11:59pm) on Thursdays, using GMT +1 as our time standard.

**FRIDAY TO THURSDAY (1 WEEK) ✅

NO LONGER

~~FRIDAY TO SUNDAY (WEEKEND)~~**

Participants should drop only one entry for each week.
The post should contain English translation if native language is used (for wider reach of audience).
If any external material is used in the post, it should be well cited.
Writing the lyrics of your musical piece will make it easier for your readers to relate well with your piece.
Participants will be encouraged to use the following tags: #music and the unique tags of #afri-tunes and the special tag of each week #afrwk (plus the week) - #afrwk5.
ENGAGING WITH OTHER AUTHORS IS IMPORTANT (in other words, commenting on other author's post and responding to their comments on your post).

A video/written compilation and highlights of all inputs and presentations of each week will be posted the following week.
10 - 15 entries will be selected each week from different categories for the compilation.

HIVE ON-BOARDING PLANS

We also intend to use this event to reach out to artists, musicians and dancers who aren't on Hive. We will share our posts outside Hive and invite those who are talented but are not part of Hive. We will spread the word about Hive, and share them our experience of Hive: a WORLD where they will be rewarded for their content, talents, efforts and sacrifices; a world where they can meet like minds and build relationships.
