What if the life you’re living right now isn’t the one you’re meant to stay in?

In this deeply personal episode, I share my story of becoming trauma-informed and how it changed everything—my marriage, my parenting, my relationship with myself, and even the continent I live on.

This past decade has been the most transformative of my life. I open up about:

  • My breaking points
  • Why learning about trauma, anxiety, and depression was the catalyst for healing.
  • The choices that catapulted me into an entirely different life (including moving to France!).
  • What I’ve learned about re-parenting myself, setting boundaries, and finding freedom in my body.
  • Why trauma-informed work is essential in our homes, workplaces, and communities.

This isn’t a polished “10 steps to healing” conversation. It’s raw, emotional, and honest. My hope is that as you listen, you’ll see reflections of your own journey and feel inspired to take the next brave step and learn what I did (and more) in my upcoming "LAST LIVE" Trauma-Informed Coach Certifications!

For centuries, we’ve been told to move on, stay quiet, be grateful, or trust the system—whether that system was religious, medical, familial, or societal. But what if the very institutions we were taught to trust are where the deepest betrayals took root?

In this raw, deeply personal episode, I walk you through a trauma-informed lens of betrayal in all its forms—and why naming it is not "playing the victim," but a powerful act of nervous system repair and reclamation.

We explore:

  • 🔥 What betrayal trauma actually is (and why it lives in the body)
  • 💔 The hidden cost of religious, medical, and societal betrayals
  • 😶‍🌫️ How women especially are conditioned to betray themselves to belong
  • 🧠 What neuroscience and trauma research say about repair, healing, and hope
  • 💡 Why witnessing ruptures is sacred—not shameful
  • 🌿 My own story of healing from personal and systemic betrayals

If you've ever felt dismissed, gaslit, silenced, or ashamed for being too sensitive or too much—this one is for you. Your wounds are real. And your healing? It’s revolutionary.

Someone on my email list asked me a question, so I thought it'd be helpful to talk about on today's episode.

“Why bring politics into nervous system regulation?”

If you’ve ever wondered whether you should be bringing your values into your coaching, your healing, or your business...

If you’ve been told nervous system work is “neutral”...

If you’ve been praised for being the “quiet one,” the “good girl,” or the one who never rocks the boat...

This is the episode you need to hear.

I share:

  • Why nervous system regulation is rarely apolitical (even if yours feels that way)
  • How public policy and systemic harm get embedded in our bodies—and passed down
  • What dentists, trauma survivors, and traffic stops have in common (yep, really)
  • Why silence isn't always sacred—and can sometimes be complicity in disguise

I also get real about:

  • The moment I stopped performing palatable neutrality
  • Why I want my kids to know I used my voice
  • How to reclaim your unique way of creating change

But don’t just read about it—listen in.

The nuance lives inside the conversation. And the invitation at the end? It might just change your life.

**In today’s episode, we delve into the concept of "relationship spirals," where partners get trapped in unhealthy behavioral patterns. Through societal conditioning, women often feel pressured to support their partners' success, leading to self-identification based on their partner's behavior. Conversely, men may internalize beliefs that tie their worth to their ability to make their partners happy. These conflicting expectations create tension and a sense of helplessness in relationships. By becoming aware of these patterns and untangling codependent behaviors, partners can cultivate a healthier, more interdependent dynamic. Join us as we explore how to break free from relationship knots and foster a more balanced exchange of energy and support.

Humans experience circumstances vastly differently. One person can internalize an event as traumatic while someone else who experiences the same doesn't. What is this all about? What is the difference between primary and secondary trauma? Does it matter? Which type of trauma tends to remain unseen (people don't recognize a need to get support after the traumatic event(s))?
As a coach (or any human), it's important to be aware of--especially with respect to current events.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • What primary and secondary trauma is.
  • Why we sometimes fail to recognize or acknowledge trauma,
  • Signs to help you recognize secondary trauma,
  • More about secondary trauma I've been healing from, and
  • Societal expectations that condition us to minimize or ignore our trauma.

I used to think I had to be thinner to go to the gym. That sneaky, perfectionistic belief can pop up in surprising ways with self-investment. I’ve had many clients come to me ashamed that they weren’t making “enough” money as a coach or didn’t have “enough” clients. In today’s episode I talk about this perfectionism and what it can look like, and ask questions to help you consider if money is one of the things holding you back from investing in yourself. We then talk about what beliefs you might need to release to open yourself up to receiving everything you’re deserving of. You don’t have to have everything figured out perfectly before investing, or going to the gym, or starting or doing the new thing you want to do.

In this episode you'll learn about:

  • How that perfectionism can show up,
  • Questions to consider if money is holding you back, and
  • Beliefs you may need to release to open yourself up to receiving.

Today’s episode is a really powerful conversation with my dear friend, Hailee. Some organizations, religions, or systems like to promise certainty. “Do things this way, and then you’ll get that result”. But what if it doesn’t work that way for all people? We are multidimensional beings, so it makes sense that different things will work for different people. Hailee and I discuss the before and after deconstructing that idea that there’s one tool or one way to heal and get the results you want. As humans, we crave certainty. But at what cost? Hailee bravely shares how scary it can be to lean into your intuition but when you do, it can bring so much goodness, knowledge, beauty, and healing into the world.

When not processed or acknowledged, trauma can impact our whole body. Body, mind, brain, nervous system, all of it. Today’s episode will explain and illustrate examples of how this can happen and affect us mentally, physically, and spiritually.

This is why simply being a Certified Coach in 2024 isn't cutting it. Clients are smarter consumers and demanding/expecting more. This is one reason why being trauma-informed matters, so we can meet clients where they're at.

Are you one of these coaches opting into more than mindset work? If so, make sure you tune in for my special announcement and how you can take this work to the next level [pssstt! It has to do with my next round of certification starting soon . . . ;) ].

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Things get worse before they get better”. Today’s episode is all about contraction. That tightening or slinging back we often experience before slinging forward. This is important to talk about in relation to your coaching practice and other relationships because sometimes we forget that "up-leveling" isn't always daisies and dandelions. Let's remove some "shoulds," shall we?

If you can relate, tune in to this episode where we’ll discuss:

  • Questions to consider when you’re ready to move forward but triggers are pulling you back,
  • Recognizing if your nervous system has the capacity to act on your intuition, and
  • A helpful way I’ve found to think about constricting and releasing.

There's so much you can do to support yourself (or your clients) when you're feeling constricted.

If you’ve been hustling and learned how to successfully run your business, but you can tell it’s not sustainable… this episode is for you. Supporters need support too, and I’ve found that many coaches need support in making sure that they're taking care of themselves so that they can sustainably continue to run their practice or business in a way that's aligned for them. I started a hybrid version of my Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for those who want that extra, personalized support for themselves and in turn, their clients; and in this episode I describe the benefits and also share a few clips from Molly Claire, an alumnus of this program.

Have you ever been in conversations with people that you couldn’t be fully present for, and you're not sure why? Or vice versa? What about as a coach, have you had calls with your clients where it feels like you aren't getting through or connecting and you're not sure why? If so, you’re in good company. Today I’m speaking about a concept called the Window of Tolerance. Understanding this will support you in becoming more aware of your own optimal space for learning and using mindset work to your advantage. It will also help you see when to drop mindset models that aren't helping you or your clients.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • What the window of tolerance is,
  • What it looks like to be above or below your window of tolerance,
  • And what you can do to get out of that hyper or hypo arousal state;

All so that you can meet your clients where they're at to achieve the results they're looking for. And don't forget about you! Understanding this for yourself is paramount in creating the sustainable dream life you're deserving of.

The coaching industry is full of people touting that "Your results come from your thinking," "All problems are a thought problem," that's "Just a thought," etc. While these can be ways to consider the thoughts we have, it needs to be presented properly to clients in order to reduce and/eliminate harm as coaches.

In todays podcast episode, listen in to find out:

  • Where coaches using a one-dimensional (aka linear modeled) approach can mess this up,
  • What thoughts actually can be,
  • What thoughts aren't, and
  • A few new ways to consider thoughts that come into you or your clientele's consciousness.

What a gift it was to learn from ARTC Alumnus Meagan Skidmore as she shares more about what her experience has been supporting a child as he has shifted how he identifies. Meagan shares what her journey has been as a devout christian and how she her awareness of her expanded nuance has shifted over the years. How her love for her children and others has grown through these experiences, and how compassionate she has been towards past versions of herself that used to think differently.

She speaks to how this experience led her to see the importance of becoming trauma-informed not only for herself, but for her relationships, clients, and more. She also provides a few tips on how to better support members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This episode is a must-listen, as I think it's essential to understand how to support our marginalized teens, adolescents, and adults in this space.

This episode comes from a place of grief for the loss of a friend's child, feeling sadness for my friends, sadness for tragedies in the world, and raising awareness about how we unconsciously dehumanize ourselves and others. Intellectualization can be a part of this--which is what I speak to today.

When we ignore our own inner knowing to others due to someone’s degree, status, or title...what happens? Are we forgetting about our humanity? On the flip side, when we hierarchize ourselves and place ourselves above others, are we dehumanizing them?

Intellectual, logical thinking is incredible. It set's us apart from other primates. However, when we lock into the cognitive mind so much that it cuts us off from accessing our heart . . . then what?

And . . . how does this apply in the coaching industry? There are plenty of 'brain experts' who use cognitive understanding and one-dimensional coaching. This can be a great place to start; however, it is limited to what we can see, intellectualize, analyze, and understand right now.

The intelligence of our bodies, our intuition, our souls, goes SO MUCH DEEPER and is limitless. Instead of hierarchize-ing cognitive work over body work, what if we can layer both over each other?

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • A personal example of where a degree or letters next to a name aren’t the end all, be all.
  • How intellectualizing can be a form of dehumanization.
  • Honoring the importance of cognitive tools AND body-led intuition.
  • The possibility and hope I see for the world.

For women, anger is often looked at as something negative that we need to keep hidden. This chronic suppression over time can have emotional and physical effects on our body. Today my dear friend and colleague, Jill Freestone, is here to dissolve some myths with me. What if:

  • Anger is actually a beautiful messenger?
  • Anger isn't always a secondary emotion?
  • Anger is an informer when our values or boundaries are being crossed?
  • Anger can and is meant to be channeled in beautiful, effective, POWERFUL ways?

Jill is an alumnus of my Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. She is an anxiety and emotions coach for teens and adults. To put it lightly, Jill. Knows. Her. Stuff. When clients come to her needing support with anger, she helps her clients learn to develop a love for their anger and eliminate the shame around experiencing it. Doing this creates fertile ground for sustainable healing to occur. Can you see why I'm such a FAN?

If you’ve ever experienced anger (hi, that’s all of us) and felt shame around it, this episode is for you.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The definition of anger (might be different than you think).
  • How to get your body involved to process anger.
  • How anger can actually be beneficial or helpful to you.
  • Physical signs (and misdiagnoses) of anger.
  • Externalized and internalized anger.
  • Tips to integrate this new way of viewing and thinking about anger.

Kathy Kinghorn has been a trauma therapist for over 13 years, and was a facilitator in my first Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. In this conversation, we discuss the differences and similarities between trauma therapy and trauma coaching and touch on when’s the right time for one or the other. For some, coaching might be the thing that prepares someone for therapy. For others, therapy might come before coaching and sometimes people can benefit from both. We also talk about the disconnect between some therapists and coaches and how we envision that relationship between the two professions in the future. Our goal is what’s in the best interest for our clients’ healing and growth.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The difference between trauma therapy and trauma coaching
  • When’s the right time for working with a coach
  • Recognizing that healing isn’t linear
  • The importance of safety
  • How we envision the relationship between therapists and coaches
  • Hierarchies and barriers to entry
  • How a collaborative effort can be in the BEST interest of our clients.
  • What really matters when it comes to sustainable healing.

I have another "Love Letters" episode for you today, perhaps my most vulnerable podcast release yet. It is meant for those who have or are questioning their religious upbringing. This is something I have personally gone through, and many loved ones and clients experience. So this love letter comes from personal experience as well as observations of those around me (be it clients, friends, support groups, other family, etc.).

Key Sharing Points/Pieces of this Episode:

  • Excerpt of an old Journal Entry
  • My spiritual expansion story.
  • People oftentimes don’t ASK for their awakenings.
  • People oftentimes WANT to make it work in their religions they were born into.
  • People can be trustworthy regardless of religious affiliation
  • People have values regardless of religious affiliation.
  • Everyone’s journey is unique. There is no one size fits all answer for where all the humans should be.
  • Lastly, a Love letter to those affected by religion or similar affiliations/upbringings.

Whether you are all in with your religion, half in, in and out, etc, I 100% respect your choice to be where your body, and divine intuition knows you need to be. I hope this love letter helps you feel validated, loved, and supported in the questions you’re asking and decisions you’re making. There is space for you to be and exist exactly as you are.

Today’s conversation is with Lauree Arnold, alumni of my Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. Lauree is a self-mastery & relationship coach that’s done a lot of inner child healing through varying modalities (a few of which are taught in our Adv. Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches and my new Trauma Informed Coach Certification). During our conversation, we discuss her past and present relationship with drinking and how it related to relationship with her mom and Self. This queen is 9 months sober! We then talk about healing and developing relationships with your inner child, while holding space/compassion for your parents in the process. Lauree also shares about how she reframed and developed a new understanding of “being bored,” and how trauma-informed work has impacted her style of coaching.

Join us today as I have my client, Karin, on the podcast to talk about the Barbie movie! If you haven’t seen Barbie yet, just know this episode does contain spoilers. But we talked about Karin’s story, our thoughts about Barbie, the double standards we face as women, the choices that we DO have, and more.

  1. The importance of finding out who you are as an individual outside of relationships.
  2. The system of patriarch, and reversing gender roles.
  3. The double-standard so many women are held to today.
  4. Following your intuition to find YOUR path, not the one that was laid out for you by society or those around you.
  5. Bravely choosing to step into the human experience.

Karin helps women move through the grief and trauma of their divorce by reconnecting with themselves, creating lasting emotional resilience and living a truly independent life, so their lives can be even better than when they were married. She’s the host of the Becoming You Again Podcast, where she offers the most support and love for anyone going through a divorce who needs some guidance and a friendly supporter (who understands exactly what they're going through).

If you identify as a woman, this episode is for you! Today we have special guest Molly Claire—current client in my hybrid-Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. Molly is a Life + Biz Coach and Mentor for purpose-driven women—she uses her visionary skill set and to help female coaches make money while making a difference in the world.

Tune in as we discuss:

  • The highlights and lowlights of coaching journeys—and how embracing the 360 human experience can positively impact your business. Yeah, that’s right ya’ll. Being a coach doesn’t absolve you of a human experience and speaking to this matters! ;)
  • The truth that you can make as much money—and more—than those who identify as male. No, this isn’t a competition, it’s more about women believing in their limitless potential.
  • How essential it is to support coaches in tuning into who they are to build sustainable, authentic businesses—and holding the belief that it’s possible.
  • The importance of recognizing the intangible impact you have in your business, relationships, and the collective.
  • The power of knowing you can earn money, and how this knowing can impact how you advocate for yourself in relationships.

As a client of my hybrid-Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches, Molly benefits from the portal, the 350+ page workbook, the community, the group instructional/somatic/processing and integration calls; along with additional 1:1 processing with me. It’s a great space for entrepreneurs and CEO’s to participate in the healing power of community, while having that 1:1 touch for deeper inner work. This option is normally offered to multiple six-seven figure earners, but it is open to all to apply—especially if you’re looking for a customized fit like this.

I could have talked with Molly for another few hours, but we’ll have to leave that for another time. It is so refreshing to be around other coaches who are willing to go deep and speak openly about what it looks like to scale your business to 6 figures and beyond. Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

You’ve heard people talk about the American Dream, along with the checklist path to acquiring it. The specifics are likely a little different for most, but generally, it's some version of getting a degree, advanced degree, great job, great house in a great neighborhood, having kids, and more. But what then? Does it bring the happiness that it promises? What happens when that fairytale dream suddenly falls apart? Where’s the updated checklist for what happens then? That’s what happened to me.
When I was working two part-time jobs to make ends meet while my partner was non-functioning, I remember thinking; what is this all for? I barely get to see my children when work is crazy, and I come hope to a house full of never-ending jobs and projects. This is NOT my American Dream.

In today’s episode I’m sharing how I got to that point, and how I pivoted and moved forward towards a life that I am passionate and excited about--where I no longer get Sunday blues. The path to moving forward contained things I had to say goodbye to in order to say hello to something better. This includes a farewell to:

  • Hustle, grind, repeat culture and the glorification that comes with it.
  • Being robotic in my work
  • A 9-5 job
  • The belief that you can't have a career you love and earn the money you want.

Since saying goodbye to that in a way that supports my nervous system, I have been able to open up to so much more Freedom, Peace, Joy, Aliveness, Flexibility with respect to my children, family travel, and more.

Listen in to hear my story of navigating those unforeseen life circumstances and find hope in the fact that if you have the desire to do something different with respect to your career, it's there because it's possible.

Before you listen, be sure to catch Part 1 on boundary basics. In this episode, your host Lindsay Poelman dives deeper to learn more about origins of hypo vs hyper boundaries.
You’ll also learn two ways to develop strong and flexible boundaries, embody knowing, and the importance of processing emotions before setting boundaries.
If you’re struggling with setting boundaries, remember that it is normal for varied reasons. Since birth, our connection to ourselves and our desires has been systematically stripped from us. This episode will provide insight and awareness around some of that and help you practice moving forward in reclaiming your sovereignty.

By the end of this part 1 and part 2 episode series, you’ll understand:

  1. An easy metaphor for setting boundaries for yourself,
  2. Boundaries at a deeper level and how conditioning plays into our struggle to maintain them,
  3. Why you may have struggled to set boundaries in the past, and
  4. Questions to consider and help you set a boundary.

You’ll get a tiny sample of my Life Coaching Certification teachings where Lindsay takes take it even deeper in part 2 (it’s also taught in her Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches).

Part 2 of this 2 part episode series continues to explore the reality of society today–one where varying levels of abuse and oppression exist–yet maintain the truth that this subject matter can be discussed appropriately from an empowered place. Tune in to learn more about what emotional abuse can look like in your most difficult relationships with humans, but also institutions and organizations. The hope is for you to feel seen, witnessed, validated–or for you to see that you can be this person for your clients in the future. And I’m not exaggerating in mentioning that you could be the “first” person to see your clients in a way that they’ve never experienced before–without bias or agenda.

Carried forward from part 1: Oftentimes, when we hear the word “abuse” we think “ugh, I don’t like that word,” “people overuse and abuse the word ‘abuse,’” or “people who use that word are being victim-y and can’t get over the past”. This is a topic we cover in-depth in my programs but for the purpose of this episode, you’ll still come to discover a high-touch, general definition of abuse. You’ll see that if this applies to you, that you can talk about “Your Lived Experience” from an empowered space. In this episode you’ll learn the definition of emotional abuse, every-day examples of abuse (some might surprise you), and the distinction between behaviors and attitudes. My hope is for you to leave this episode feeling witnessed, validated, and empowered enough to create enough safety within to set boundaries where appropriate in your intimate and other relationships. This work moves us all closer towards living into our authentic self.

In case you missed the first half, listen here for a fun conversation with Melissa Taylor, the somatic practitioner coming to our retreat next month in the south of France! We talk loosely about the idea that we’re all our own modality. We discuss the forward thinking approach to healing and growth as more of a state of “attending” to ourselves instead of “fixing.” We delve into the importance of play and fun with respect to healing, and more. After being diagnosed with breast cancer twice, among other life challenges, Melissa set her own path to healing and connecting with her soul and today she helps others do the same. She’s participating as an expert facilitator in my programs this year to lead us on a Chakra healing journey, and will also be part of my retreat this summer in the South of France. She is gifted, multitalented, multifaceted, and SO. MUCH. MORE! I hope you love this conversation as much as I did.

The thought that you are your own modality is one I picked up from my dear friend, colleague, and soul sister Melissa Taylor. I am thrilled to have her on today’s podcast. After being diagnosed with breast cancer twice, among other life challenges, she set her own path to healing and connecting with her soul. She’s one of those people I always come back to and cherish our time together. Melissa is an integral piece of the retreat I’m holding in the south of France next month, so I wanted you all to get to know her! Listen to part 1 of our conversation where we talk casually about accessing your spiritual gifts, the importance of nervous system work, and more.

You may have heard trauma defined as Big T or Little T Trauma. While having this language to differentiate and describe your experience can be helpful, in some cases it can also be harmful (see episode on self-gaslighting) and re-traumatizing. Because women (and oftentimes men) have been deeply conditioned to discount their lived experience, oftentimes we’re carrying, experiencing, or re-experiencing traumas without even knowing it. This episode will help you give language to your experience while also helping you to question how you describe your trauma. While this episode will discuss big and little T trauma, any trauma can impact you and it's okay for you to take up space with your healing.

Have you ever noticed something and felt the need to “fix, fix, fix” it? Your host, Lindsay Poelman, is here to tell you that you don’t need to fix everything, especially not right away. As you go through the process of healing and experience clarity and discovery, grief can come up. With that, some people may want to get into hustle and fix. This episode is your reminder that it’s ok to be gentle with yourself (in fact, Lindsay encourages it). During these processes we really wanna make sure we're attuning to our body so we can create safety, which is so important when it comes to living a life that we want to, and living a life of ease and joy and healing. During this episode Lindsay shares an exercise you can do to support you through this process. Whether you’re doing healing work on your own or you’re a coach supporting clients’ healing, this episode is for you.

Gaslighting is becoming a bit of a “buzzword” these days, Which doesn't have to be a problem! In fact, there may very well be a reason why! Today your host, Lindsay Poelman, is breaking it down. Dysfunctional relationships can develop for people in relation to marriage, friendships, with institutions or religion, relationships at work, or anything like that. The Drama Triangle models three roles or positions we can have in those dysfunctional social interactions. When you listen to the episode, remember that this isn’t to judge ourselves or others but to gain awareness for ourselves. As we become aware of these patterns in ourselves, and the “musts” behind them, we start to grow and step into our true selves. This impacts our relationships, and in effect “changes the dance”. Change your dance when it allows you to BE and express more of your true self. Now, this does not mean that you have to completely cut everyone out of your life as your beliefs and values evolve. Listen to today’s episode to find out what I mean. And remember, taking care of your nervous system IS changing the dance.

“At the end of the day, I think our biggest human need is to be seen and to be heard. Being able to provide that for another human being is huge.” - Kristi Falany

There comes a point for many women where they find themselves lost in what they are supposed to do with their lives. For years society has conditioned us to follow a certain path, to raise a family, have a career, follow societal norms, but that path left little room for self exploration and growth after the age of 50. In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman examines how women can find joy and meaning in life outside of the constraints of what is expected of them.

In this episode she sits down with Kristi Falany, a midlife coach that helps women in their 50's and beyond find confidence and joy in this period of their lives, and they talk about:

  • Her experiences as a 4th grade teacher and finding a different route that provided her life with more meaning and purpose
  • Her client's experiences, fears, and concerns around midlife age and finding joy outside of what they have been conditioned to do.
  • Women and societal conditioning - the expectations of what our roles are in every stage of our lives.

Kristi firmly believes that 50 and beyond can be the best years of your life. Kristi shares how her reinvention techniques and simple tools can completely change your life.

Time flew while Rachelle and your host Lindsay Poelman were recording so, we broke this into a Part I and a Part II Episode set.

So many insightful nuggets were shared, we wanted you to hear the FULL conversation.

Working for yourself can bring out unresolved emotions and thoughts that question your worthiness and ability to make the right choices. For many of us, those choices comes down to financial awareness, making decisions for our businesses, and understanding the inner work that we need to do in order to heal and create the life we envision for ourselves.

In this episode I sit down with Rachelle Siebke, a money coach for life coaches and creative solopreneurs and talk about:

  • Her experience working with people who struggle with their financial decisions and how she was able to overcome that herself.
  • How changing the way she looks at the CTFAR Model has taken her coaching to a new level.
  • The compounded impact of coming together in safe circles to see and be seen--and what she's found by being connected to a forever group of Trauma-Informed Coaches (Rachelle was on the Inaugural Retreat for ARTC Coaches last fall in the South of France).
  • We also discuss imposter syndrome and how that can impact the way we show up for ourselves and our business.

Rachelle models what she teaches and it shows in the away she approaches and blends thought work while supporting clients in anchoring deeply into their knowing. Her approach to money as an Expert Money Coaching is a breath of fresh air, as she supports clients in finding "their right way."

Learning how to be aware of your thoughts and manage your mindset is one of the fundamentals of the coaching industry. Many coaches teach the idea that it is "just a thought" that you can taught to change. While this is a helpful tool for many, it is not the end all, be all solution for everyone.

Humans are multidimensional and multifaceted beings, and the ways that our bodies react to certain events in our lives will vary from person to person. In order to be an effective coach, in any industry, we need to support clients into understanding their bodies.

In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman talks about how not addressing the missing parts of the coaching model can lead to overriding intuition hits, override trauma, or maybe not even recognize that a trauma response is happening. Some things she talks about are:

  • How to support clients in understanding their bodies
    • The nonlinear
    • The nonrational
    • The full body
  • How to recognize trauma responses
  • How to move past the "it's just a thought" coaching method
  • Why cherry picking clients without trauma is a myth

If your body or nervous system isn’t on board when you’re choosing new thoughts to believe, the unconscious programming will, with time usually override those unsustainable affirmations you’re offering up.

If we want to live that life of freedom, joy, openness, abundance, love, and peace, that comes with befriending our body, not ignoring it.

And this is the approach we take in Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. We’re developing out your relationship with YOUrself, with the language of your body. Learning about your UNIQUE PATTERNS of processing, thinking, manifesting, and healing. Developing the belief that you are the final authority on YOU, and your needs. Learning the language of YOUR body that only YOU know.

In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman talks about how the CTFAR model can be a great tool to help you in your healing journey, but is not necessarily a substitute for your body's intuition. She discusses things like:

  • How it’s a common thing for us to gaslight ourselves as women,
  • Why we question ourselves when something goes wrong, or something goes amiss.
  • How many times have you found yourself questioning your “crazy” in different parts of your life?
  • The abuse culture that has been normalized in our patriarchal society has caused us to internalize the pattern of self-gaslighting self blame, and over responsibility.

Enter the rise of coaching. Now this may vary from person to person, and from certification to certification, but problems can come in and arise when you stick to one model as the answer to all of your problems.

It keeps people from setting boundaries when it is necessary to create safety, because they think the safety then need comes from more thinking than trusting their body and nervous system needs.

It keeps people forcing what their deep deep knowing knows because the ego loves linearity and rationale.

In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman talks about the myths of coaching and how healing is not only top down. As we approach healing and growth with a blended approach (top - bottom and bottom-top ) this is where EVERYTHING changes. This is where you really see that you are the authority over yourself, your healing, etc. She offers ways to help you answer questions when taking accountability like:

  • Am I taking more than my share of responsibility for this scenario?
  • Is the level of responsibility I’m taking helping me?
  • Is there any shame or judgment that needs to go?

Your host, certified life coach Lindsay Poelman started her journey of intentional healing started when she learned that her husband had been lying to her about pornography use for a greater part of their marriage. After processing and accepting her circumstance more fully, she found coaching—which propelled her into a forward focused state of empowerment.

Over the last four years of deep dive/fundamental coaching for women in betrayal (around porn use, spouses coming out around gender identity and sexuality, childhood neglect and abuse, substance abuse, infidelity, emotional abuse, domestic violence, institutional trauma, and more.), she has observed that if you’re working with humans, you can’t handpick clients who don’t carry trauma.

This is why I have developed a Trauma-Informed approach to mindset work and relationships that take into account the nuance of being a human. She believes that being trauma informed is an essential standard of care for coaches. She created this podcast to support life coaches who recognize that there is so much more than mindset work when it comes to supporting their clients responsibly.

Tune into this week’s podcast where common religious misconceptions are made about people when they begin to differentiate from their church.

Most of the time, the assumptions we make are more of a clear hit into our own conditioning—rather than what the person you’re observing is experiencing.

And in Lindsay’s words: “I share all of this with the most love in my heart because I care about you and I believe in you as a coach. If you’re reading this, it’s very likely that you have your clients’ best interest at heart.”

The tools Lindsay teaches in her advanced certification for coaches can facilitate your coaching in this arena as well. It will minimize harm that can and does happen in the coaching industry.

And most importantly, these tools will facilitate your relationship with yourself.

In this episode Lindsay discusses:

  • How you can be an advocate for marginalized groups in religion
  • Why that doesn't exclude you from also practicing said religion
  • The different misconceptions related to religious trauma
  • How we can be conditioned in religious institutions
  • How to recognize these conditioning roles

This is Part 2 of a series of Why Trauma Responses are Pro Social. In this episode your host Lindsay Poelmans discusses what potential trauma responses can look like outside of the entrepreneurship realm.

She also explains why there is a balance to be found between responsibility and labeling experiences as traumatic.

Why does this matter? It’s helpful to see where your responses come into play as a human, outside of coaching; so that you can be grounded enough to pick up on this stuff with respect to your clients. If you aren’t ever willing to look underneath your own hood, it’s going to be a different experience trying to pick up on potential trauma trails that your clients may be hinting at–whether consciously or subconsciously.

This is an interview Kathy Kinghorn and Lindsay Poelman had with Caryn Gillen about our Advanced Certification: Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches.

We discuss the importance of being trauma-informed. If our goal is to help our clients get where they want to go and for us to “do no harm” in helping them get there, then we really need to understand trauma. We need to know what it looks like, how it can present, how to let people have their stories, how to help them work through it, and when to pull in or suggest additional support.

In this episode, we discuss:

– Big ‘T’ trauma vs. little ‘t’ trauma

– Relationship betrayal trauma

– The individual nature of trauma

– Safety, particularly in change work

– The benefits of coaching and therapy (separately or together)

– Gaslighting – what it is and how to recognize it

As well as, how to listen to your gut and why we’re not in a rush.

In this episode, your host Lindsay Poelman sits down with Kathy Kinghorn. Join us in this episode where I interview Trauma Therapist Kathy Kinghorn. Kathy owns a wildly successful therapy practice in Lehi, Utah and has been training therapists for years. We discuss:

  • Why being open to “Bridging the Gap” between coaches and therapists can be in the best interest of clients.
  • Places where trauma shows up in interactions with humans.
  • Why being trauma-informed broadens your compassion and why oftentimes trauma isn’t always the “thing you see,” but what’s “behind the thing you see.”
  • Examples of why it makes sense that healing and growth aren’t linear and don’t need to be bound to one modality.

Kathy also answers the tough question: “Why don’t some therapists like coaches?”

Many of us don't have a lot of understanding around trauma. We've been taught that it usually occurs when BIG stuff happens: War, Violent Crimes, Natural Disasters, Shootings, or other serious accidents. While those examples can certainly be traumatic, it is paramount to understand the impact of the smaller, chronic and consistent experiences on our bodies--along with the potential impacts of not acknowledging this for yourself.  Let's talk about WHY knowing about trauma matters so much.
