About Gina MundyGina Mundy is an attorney that specializes in childbirth cases. For over two decades, she has analyzed the mistakes that are made during labor and delivery. Drawing on this knowledge, she has authored a book for parents aimed at preventing these mistakes. Rather than merely getting involved after an unfortunate mistake was made, Gina has taken a proactive approach by getting involved before childbirth. Her goal is to assist parents in preventing these mistakes and help them have a healthy baby. Gina believes that while we cannot change the past, we can certainly learn from it and take measures to prevent similar mistakes from occurring in the future.

Throughout her career Gina has traveled nationwide, engaging with healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and midwives to explore all aspects of labor and delivery. These interactions have provided her with invaluable insights, enabling her to appreciate the diverse perspectives prevalent in different regions of the country. Collaborating with experts from various states, she has explored and analyzed the myriad of issues that can arise during labor and delivery, impacting both mother and baby.

Gina has conducted extensive research, meticulously analyzing, and dissecting countless studies pertaining to childbirth. This rigorous process was essential in equipping her with the necessary knowledge to undertake lengthy cross-examinations of a diverse array of experts. Through these examinations, she skillfully discerns their opinions on the errors that have occurred during labor and delivery. This has sharpened her knowledge allowing her to become highly proficient in the nuances of childbirth.

In her capacity as legal counsel, Gina has closely worked with delivery teams whose care has been questioned following adverse outcomes. She has spent thousands of hours meticulously scrutinizing cases, conducting interviews with delivery teams, and thoroughly examining medical records to gain an in-depth understanding of every decision made during labor and delivery.

A few years later, she quit her corporate job to become a personal trainer and learned that her 40's and 50's clients were experiencing the same upheaval she had gone through and with the same lack of information.

And that signaled to her that it was time to dig in. learn what was going on, and help her clients understand and cope with the changes in their lives. Her practice grew and morphed into what she calls Menopause Mastery Coaching.

Now, she's on a mission to spread the knowledge she's gleaned to women everywhere through her podcast "Menopause Matters," her book, "I Just Want to Be ME Again!" and through appearing on podcasts like this one.

Today’s guest, Marnie Goodfriend, a survivor turned advocate, gives us a deeper understanding of the stigma associated with rape and the traumatizing effects it has on victims of sexual assault. Join us to explore the power of healing through advocacy, writing, and taking back your power.

Key takeaways to listen for

  • The benefits of helping others while healing from trauma
  • Negative impact of victim blaming
  • How does retraumatization happen?
  • Ways to support rape and sexual assault survivors
  • The power of sharing and writing your own story
  • Importance of understanding trauma responses

  • Unbelievable

About Marnie Goodfriend

At age 22, Marnie Goodfriend was attacked at knifepoint and raped inside her West Village apartment. Her home became a crime scene; she lost her job, friends, family members, security, and identity. She spent months building a mixed-media installation so people could “see” rape and lept into the role of a public survivor. Programs and resources for trauma were limited, and it was admittedly easier to focus on others than her recovery.

She found purpose, a new identity, and a community, but inside, she was a shell of herself. She became masterful at putting on a brave face and hid her PTSD, panic attacks, eating disorders, and isolation from the world. She focused on busyness, working a full-time job and, as a member of three speaker’s bureaus, speaking at schools, hospitals, and events, during her lunch breaks or “doctor’s appointments.” She became a trained emergency room advocate and lobbied for bills on Capitol Hill, but it was years before she looked inward to heal her trauma.

A decade later, the perpetrator was caught through a cold case hit. The NYPD SVU, friends, and advocates were immensely supportive, but the trial re-traumatized her. She left the events industry and transitioned to freelance writing to write what was true for her in her language, on her timeline. Leading workshops and coaching writers and non-writers felt so natural that she decided to merge her advocacy, activism, and write under one umbrella.

Today, she helps survivors, including MeToo activists, Weinstein victims, and the Silence Breakers, with their statements, articles, personal essays, and op-eds. She uses narrative techniques to help non-writers heal and rediscover their true selves. She also offers services to those who work with survivors: lawyers whose clients need guidance with their victim impact statements and therapists who integrate creative writing into survivors’ healing process. Recently, she launched a weekly workshop and movement, Sorry That Happened to You, taught a class on Writing and the Body, completed a book proposal on her experience as a sexual assault survivor who was barely surviving, and a screenplay based on these events.

About Kim Hamer

On April 16, 2009, Kim Hamer watched her 44-yr-old husband take his last breath. During his illness and after his death, she was amazed by the helpful ways their coworkers, bosses, friends, and family supported them. Kim started calling their kind actions "acts of love."

After the death of her husband, Kim, an HR leader, noticed how little guidance leaders received when navigating cancer, health crisis, or death on their team. She knew their lack of knowledge negatively affected morale, employee engagement, and productivity. She set out to change that. Combining her personal experience with her professional knowledge and leadership skills, Kim launched her business to support leaders and coworkers when cancer (or any health crisis) affects a team member.

Kim Hamer is the author of 100 Acts of Love: A Girlfriend's Guide to Loving Your Friend through Cancer or Loss, an easy-to-read book filled with 100 practical, quick, and effective ways to support a friend or coworker. About Sundae Bean

Sundae Schneider-Bean is an intercultural strategist, a transformation facilitator, and a solution-oriented coach. She supports individuals and organizations as they traverse through (and flourish beyond!) life quakes and other major shifts -- no matter where they are. For almost a decade, her location-independent business has served individuals and world-class organizations from over 60 countries across six continents. Sundae’s mission is to help clients achieve ambitious goals while navigating transition. She leads several online groups with thousands of members and hosts the popular weekly podcast IN TRANSIT with Sundae Bean. Formerly known as Expat Happy Hour, it has enjoyed a Top 5% global rank for five years straight.

Personally, I am a woman in my 40s who is a daughter, sister, mother, wife, and friend. I have lived in multiple countries across three continents while raising two cross-cultural children (sometimes as a solo-parent) and navigating a bi-national marriage.

Professionally, I am celebrating nine years as an entrepreneur in June 2022, proud to have a 100% location-independent business. I have had the honor to serve women from around the globe through their toughest challenges. I have been by the side of women who have given up their jobs to support their family, lost husbands, divorced, came out, moved away, and more. This has broken down my naivete to the struggles women face when “doing life.”

Leaning on my skills as a facilitator, qualitative communication researcher, and accredited coach, I see so much collective wisdom emerge as I support others through their hard-earned experiences. I am committed to anti-racism work and understand that our lives and experiences are distinctly shaped by our identities and the systems that either welcome, deny, ignore, or challenge them.

Through all of this, I am convinced that together we are stronger.

About Erin Gallagher

Erin is currently on a career break. But her commitment to intersectional gender equity remains steadfast and strong. As she explores what is next on her journey, she will take what she has learned as a business owner, a disruptor, an entrepreneur, a system challenger, a mother of two young children, and an empathetic leader.

Erin has counseled C-suite and senior leaders at some of the world’s biggest and best brands and companies — from LinkedIn to United Airlines to Carhartt to McDonald’s — and forged relationships with change-makers and leaders who believe in the power of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.

She is a Founder and former Partner of Have Her Back (HHB) Consulting. In her 2 ½ years with the company, she grew HHB from becoming global holding company Interpublic Group’s first equity investment in a majority women-owned business...ever (in its 93-year history) to earning recognition from Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2022. Erin is also a PRNews 2019 ‘Top Women in PR’ Honoree.

She began her career at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, a non-profit legal services watchdog dedicated to ending discrimination/harassment of military personnel affected by the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. And she has more than 15 years of experience leading global marketing, business development, branding, and communications.

Erin is a member of the Female Founder Collective, a network of businesses led by women supporting women. Its mission is to enable and empower female-owned and led companies to impact our communities, both socially and economically, positively. She is a signatory of PwC’s CEO Action for D&I, the most significant CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
