In part four of their month in Europe, Jessica and Brandon skip the crowded city center for a storybook town twenty minutes out, and it might be their favorite stay of the whole trip. Financial advisor Brandon lays out what those three nights really cost, while the two of them get into the bike tour they would never do again, the coffee shop mix up every traveling parent needs to hear, and the museum visit that stopped their kids in their tracks.

Is Disneyland Paris worth it, or is it the one part of your Europe trip you can skip without regret?

In Part 3 of the Europe travel series, Jessica and Brandon surprise their kids with three nights on property and reach a very honest verdict. They are not a Disney family, which might make them exactly who you want to hear from before you book.

They get into the number most people dance around: what a family of four actually paid to stay on property with park tickets included, and how it stacks up against Florida. As a financial advisor, Brandon wanted to test whether the kids even enjoy the parks before committing to a pricier US trip. The ride that made them question every parenting decision is a story the two will be telling for years.

You also get the strategies that made it work: magic hour, a divide and conquer breakfast plan, why they skipped the meal plan, and the free Disney planner who steered them away from the wrong choices. Plus what a brutal heat wave does to a day in the park with tired kids.

By the end, Jessica and Brandon answer what you are actually asking. Two nights or three? Book Paris just for Disney, or only add it if you are already in Europe? Then it is onto the train to Amsterdam for the next stop.

Is Paris actually worth the hype, or is it as rude, dirty, and overpriced as everyone warned? Jess and Brandon went to find out as a family of four, This is Part 2 of their five part series on a month in Europe, and it might be their favorite stop yet.

If Paris is on your list, treat this one as your playbook. They cover how to enjoy the Eiffel Tower without overpaying, how to survive the Louvre with two kids, the shopping move that got money back in their pocket at the airport, and the Christian Dior Museum that was a crowd pleaser for all ages.

They get honest about the money. What a few nights in Paris really costs, why the food felt like a steal while the housing did not, and whether a city this beautiful could ever fit the move abroad they keep considering. Brandon and Jessica break it down so you can plan a trip that feels rich without wrecking your budget.

Press play for the full story, plus a free garden the kids refused to leave. Paris Disney is next. Follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review. New episodes every Wednesday.

Four countries. Four weeks. A family of four, plus Brandon's mom. And it started because we didn't want to pay for six weeks of summer camp.

This is Part 1 of a five-part series breaking down Jessica and Brandon's month in Europe, country by country. First stop: Barcelona.

We get into how we flew there for 30,000 points a person, what our Airbnb actually cost, why groceries felt cheaper and the ingredient lists felt shorter, and why Brandon came home a half pound lighter after working out exactly once in 26 days.

We also talk about how we're seriously considering moving abroad.

Real numbers, real tradeoffs, and what we'd do differently. Paris is next.

Summer Rewind: we are re releasing one of our most unforgettable listener stories while we travel through Europe, and this one still stops people in their tracks.

In 2005, guest Ben took out $175,000 in private student loans that never paid for a single class and handed all of it to his charismatic younger brother, who promised overnight millions from a chain of restaurants. The businesses were never real. Six months into his marriage with Beth, the couple was served with a lawsuit. That original amount had compounded into $310,000 of debt.

Beth and Ben join us to share how they discovered the fraud, survived a wave of lawsuits and depositions, and made the decision to stay together and pay back every dollar. Over ten and a half years of side hustles, coupon clipping, and deliberate spending, they cleared the entire balance and rebuilt their finances and their relationship.

Along the way we cover why loaning money to family needs documentation and hard questions, how compound interest turns a bad decision into a crisis, what happens legally when a spouse is named in a lawsuit, and the four questions everyone should ask before making any investment. We also talk about why couples need to have honest money conversations before marriage, not after.

This is a story about betrayal, grit, and financial recovery, and a practical reminder that if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Summer Rewind: Brandon and Jessica are in Europe for the month. This one is worth revisiting.

When you get married, your state automatically writes a financial agreement for you. Most couples have no idea. That reframe is what led Brandon and Jessica to pursue a postnuptial agreement after nearly nine years of marriage, not because they were planning a divorce, but because writing the rules while love is high is the smartest financial move a couple can make.

They cover how assets, liabilities, and inheritances get divided, the counseling clause they built in before any separation decision, financial protection for stay-at-home spouses, and how the process kicked off new money conversations they had never had.

No guest. Just an honest look at a decision they both wish they had made sooner.

Brandon and Jessica are traveling through Europe this month, so they're bringing back one of their most impactful episodes as part of their Summer Rewind series.

Bankruptcy attorney Adrienne Hines joins the show to reframe everything most people think they know about debt relief. With nearly 30 years of experience, she makes the case that bankruptcy is not a last resort, it is often the smartest first call you can make before touching your 401k, pulling from home equity, or signing up for a debt settlement program.

Adrienne breaks down the difference between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, who qualifies, what it costs, and what actually gets wiped away. She also explains why debt settlement companies are less protected and more dangerous than most people realize, how predatory lending replaced the consumer protections that once existed, and the simple 3-year test that tells you whether it is time to talk to a lawyer.

Adrienne Hines is the Ladylike Lawyer. Find her at theladylikelawyer.com or on TikTok and Instagram at @theladylikelawyer. Not in Ohio? Her team will match you with a licensed bankruptcy attorney near you for a free consultation.

☀️ Summer Rewind! We're spending the month traveling Europe, so we're bringing back one of our most-listened-to episodes. The advice is fully evergreen and hits just as hard now as it did when it first dropped.

If you've been meaning to get your finances in order but keep putting it off, this episode is for you.

Jessica and Brandon walk you through 5 money moves that can change how you manage, save, and grow your money, no matter where you're starting from.

In this episode:

  • Why your financial goals need to be specific, measurable, and said out loud
  • How to review your budget without dreading it (and the mindset shift that makes it stick)
  • Avalanche vs. snowball: the two debt payoff strategies and how to pick the right one for you
  • Why automating your savings removes the willpower problem entirely
  • The real reason most people don't build wealth (hint: it's not knowledge)

The one line that never gets old: it's not a lack of ability. It's a lack of action.

New episodes every Wednesday. Subscribe so you never miss one.

What happens when the internet gets honest about money, and people start showing their whole hand?

This week's episode explores three viral social media posts as a jumping-off point for some real financial conversations. First: a husband who demanded $10,000 from his wife's daughter's medical school fund to buy a truck, and threatened divorce when she said no. Then: a grieving father who wants to give his late daughter's college fund to her best friend instead of a blood relative, dividing the comments. And finally: a gut-punch of an article about families moving aging parents to Mexico because $13,000-a-month memory care facilities in the US are financially impossible for most people.

Topics covered in this episode:
• Why financial entitlement is one of the loudest red flags in a relationship
• How to protect dedicated savings in blended families (prenups, post-nups, separate accounts)
• When it's your money, it's your call, the limits of family obligation
• The long-term care crisis quietly threatening the retirement plans of sandwich-generation millennials
• Why most people have no idea what their parents' finances actually look like, and what that costs them
• Long-term care policies: who needs them, when to get them, and why waiting is the most expensive mistake

If you've been avoiding the money conversation with your aging parents, this episode is the sign to stop waiting.

What if instead of summer camp, you just took your family to Europe for a month?

Jessica and Brandon are taking their family to Europe for four weeks this summer, and in this episode they walk through exactly how they pulled it off. From stalking flight portals for months to find 120,000 points worth of flights across four countries, to building a five-tab spreadsheet to keep every confirmation number, address, and ticket organized, this episode is the full behind-the-scenes of planning an international family trip.

They cover the tools they actually use: Point.me for finding the best points and miles deals, Airbnbs with washers, dryers, and AC over hotels, bulk public transit passes, and the free Smart Traveler Enrollment Program that sends real-time safety alerts from the nearest US embassy. They also get into the stuff that catches travelers off guard, like booking major attraction tickets weeks in advance before they sell out, spotting scam sites that mimic official museum pages, ordering foreign currency from your home bank before you leave, and knowing which credit cards to carry internationally and why.

If you are planning a big international trip and want to know how to actually prepare for it, this one is worth a listen.

The data is clear: staying loyal to one employer rarely keeps pace with what strategic career moves can do for your income. But what does "smart" job hopping actually look like, and when does loyalty still win?

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon get real about the job hopping vs. loyalty debate. They share firsthand experience navigating layoffs, negotiate their way through six-figure compensation packages, and break down the framework listeners can use to make career decisions that actually build wealth.

Topics covered:

  • Why piddly 1.5–3% annual raises are costing you serious long-term wealth
  • How to use competing offers to negotiate with your current employer without quitting
  • The right and wrong reasons to make a lateral move
  • Vesting schedules, RSUs, and benefits you should never leave on the table
  • The 15–20% rule: the number that makes a job switch worth the disruption
  • Why interviewing is a skill you must keep sharp — even when you're happy
  • How to build a network that works for you before you need it
  • What a client negotiated by simply asking ($30K base increase + doubled equity)
  • Beyond salary: education stipends, PTO, remote work, fertility benefits, and more

Closed mouths don't get fed. This episode gives you the tools to start asking.

A woman on Threads wrote that she is being gifted a $400,000 rental property by her mother, but only in her name, with a legal agreement keeping it separate from any future marriage. Her boyfriend of three years is furious. He wanted to sell it and use the money toward a bigger place for them both. When she explained her mom's conditions, he packed a bag and moved in with a friend.

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon break down why the mom's conditions are not just reasonable, they are smart. They also dig into what the boyfriend's reaction actually reveals about his character, why inheritance and asset protection are conversations every couple should be having, and what their own postnuptial agreement says about inherited wealth.

Their verdict? Take the property. And seriously reconsider the relationship.

You just had a fight about the dishwasher. Or the thermostat. Or the vacation your partner keeps putting off. Spoiler: it wasn't about any of those things.

Most arguments couples have about money are actually about something much deeper, and once you learn to spot it, you can't unsee it.

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon break down how couples argue about money without ever actually talking about money. They share their own real-life examples, including Jessica's recent "I want to save $100,000" moment (and what was really underneath it), the time Brandon left Jessica's stocking empty on Christmas, and how they finally got on the same page about paying for their kids' college.

You'll also learn the DREAM framework, their 5-step approach to decoding what your money arguments are really about and having the conversations that actually fix them.

What you'll learn:

  • Why fights about Target runs, utility bills, and vacation planning are rarely about the money
  • How scarcity mindsets and childhood money memories show up in your relationship right now
  • The exact phrase that helps you peel back what a money argument is really about
  • When to pause mid-fight and how to schedule a money date that actually works
  • How tools like Monarch Money can eliminate the visibility gaps that fuel conflict

Your ability to earn money is your most valuable financial asset, and most people have zero protection for it.

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon break down disability insurance from the ground up: what it actually covers, why your employer's policy probably isn't enough, and how to plug the gaps before something happens.

You'll learn:

  • The difference between short-term and long-term disability, and why most people confuse them
  • Why 60% of your base salary sounds fine until you do the math
  • The critical policy feature that determines whether you can actually collect (own occupation vs. any occupation)
  • How the underwriting process works, and why your medical records matter more than you think
  • Why disability insurance may be more important than life insurance
  • The future increase rider that lets you grow your coverage without going through medical underwriting again

If you have income and people who depend on it, this episode is non-negotiable.

Your spouse just found out they're inheriting money, and now they want a postnup. Do you panic, or do you see it for what it actually is?

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon break down the real purpose of prenups and postnups, share why they got one after almost a decade of marriage, and explain why the stigma around these agreements is costing couples more than they realize. Spoiler: your state already wrote your prenup. You just don't know what it says.

They cover what to actually include in a postnup (inheritance, kids' accounts, mortgages, debt), why you don't divorce the same person you married, and why building these protections while love is high is the smartest financial move a couple can make.

Think of it as love insurance, you hope you never need it, but you'll be grateful it's there.

Life insurance is one of the most misunderstood parts of financial planning.

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon break down what life insurance is actually meant to do and why most people think about it the wrong way.

Instead of treating life insurance like an investment, it should be viewed as income protection. If your income disappeared tomorrow, would your family still be financially secure?

We cover:

• Who actually needs life insurance
• Why term life insurance works for most people
• The real difference between term and whole life policies
• How much life insurance you should consider
• Why waiting to buy a policy can cost you more
• Why life insurance through work usually isn’t enough

If you have a spouse, kids, or anyone financially dependent on you, this episode explains why life insurance is one of the foundational pieces of a solid financial plan.

Tax season is here, and if you're getting a refund, this episode is for you.

Jessica and Brandon break down how to use your tax refund strategically instead of treating it like random bonus money. They unpack the “free loan to the government” debate, explain why some people intentionally aim for a large refund, and walk through practical ways to put that money to work.

  • Emergency funds and debt payoff priorities
  • Planning for upcoming expenses
  • When investing your refund makes sense

Health insurance costs are climbing, and this year’s open enrollment feels tougher than ever. Premiums are up, deductibles are higher, and plans seem designed to confuse you.

In this episode, Jess and Brandon walk through how to actually compare your options by looking at total yearly cost, not just the monthly premium. You’ll learn how to plan for high-cost years with surgeries or pregnancies versus lower-cost preventive years, and how to understand how network changes, prescriptions, and hidden fees can impact your real out-of-pocket costs.

They also break down the tools that help you fight rising healthcare costs:

  • HSAs: triple tax advantages and long-term growth potential
  • FSAs and Dependent Care FSAs: pre-tax savings for medical and childcare costs
  • Short Term Disability: using it for maternity or recovery time
  • Group Life and Disability Insurance: what’s covered and where the gaps are

If your health plan feels more expensive but offers less, this episode helps you make the smartest choice for your family and your wallet.

In this episode, Jessica and Brandon dive into a tricky but essential question: How soon should you bring up money when you're dating?

They unpack why money often feels taboo, share tips to start the conversation without tension, and explore real‐life stories about financial expectations, backgrounds, and values. Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, or beyond, you’ll get tools to help you be curious, open, and intentional in your relationships.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Simple conversation starters that don’t feel intimidating.
  • How upbringing & past financial habits influence what you expect (and need) in a partner.
  • What to do if your partner resists having the money talk.

Questions we answer:

  • Should you ask about money on date one, date two, or after you get more serious?
  • What clues about a person’s financial mindset can you pick up in subtle ways?
  • When is it okay to split bills 50/50 vs. proportionally?

Most couples unknowingly agree to their state’s version of a prenup when they sign a marriage license. But what if you could rewrite the rules to actually reflect your values?

In this episode, Jess & Brandon share why they created a post-nuptial agreement after nine years of marriage—not as a plan for divorce, but as a blueprint for how they handle money, co-parenting, and conflict with intention.

They walk through how they worked with attorney Aaron Thomas to build a post-nup that protects their family, outlines their financial responsibilities, and brings them closer—not further apart.

This is the conversation every couple should have—but most don’t. Listen in and find out how designing your own rules can bring more clarity, connection, and peace of mind to your marriage, and why protecting your assets “just in case” can help you feel more confident than ever in your relationship.

*This episode contains profanity and may not be suited for children under age 13

Charly Stoever has worn many hats—undocumented immigrant, stockbroker, money coach, and global adventurer. In this raw and inspiring conversation, they unpack how a childhood shaped by financial uncertainty led to a life of intentional wealth-building.

From a full ride to Wellesley to living on Peace Corps stipends, Charly eventually found their money “aha moment” in a simple stock market chart—leading to a career in finance and a mission to help LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent high earners build passive income.

We talk identity, financial trauma, wellness, and why pet-sitting your way through 36 countries might just be a genius wealth strategy. Charly’s advice is as bold as it is practical: “If you can fully fund happy hour, you can fully fund your 401k.”

This episode is a blueprint for building wealth on your own terms—especially if you’ve never had a safety net.

This episode originally aired on March 1, 2023.

The gender pay gap is a calculation that reflects the fact that, on average, women are paid less than men. In 2020, that was 83 cents to every dollar. Women of Color, per usual, get an even smaller piece of the pie. Black women were paid 64%, and Hispanic women (of any race) were paid 57% of what white non-Hispanic men were paid (according to a study conducted by the Women’s Bureau in tandem with the U.S. Census Bureau).

What’s worse is that the majority of the gap between men and women’s wages cannot be explained through measurable differences!

This isn't just about numbers and policies; it's about the voices that often go unheard. Jessica and Brandon are shining a spotlight on the double-edged sword faced by women of color, mothers, and those re-entering the workforce.

Tune in as they dissect the paradoxical undervaluing of women in the workforce, even when they bring identical qualifications and experience to the table.

The gender wage gap is a calculation that reflects the fact that, on average, women are paid less than men.

But why does the wage gap even exist? Tune in to learn more about this infuriating, global issue and what you can do about it.

Happy Black History Month!
The wealth gap between Black and white Americans has been persistent and extreme. The accumulated effects of four centuries of institutional and systemic racism bears major responsibility for disparities in income, health, education, and opportunity which sadly continue to present day.

Employment, housing (hello redlining), and educational discrimination across the country virtually ensured that Black Americans in the South would not be able to accumulate wealth.

Tune in as Brandon and Jessica dive deeper into the history of the racial wealth gap.
