Elevate the Individual: Recent Episodes

In today's world it's easy to get caught up in the negativity and stress that surrounds us. We pour so much time and energy into the next generation hoping and praying they make it thru their teenage years. Oftentimes, we lose sight of the mothers standing behind them. Mothers who want nothing more than for their children to succeed, who also have dreams of their own.

Together, we highlight the stories of these incredible mothers as they raise their families and communities while getting after their goals and caring for their own mental health.

Join us as we elevate the individual for the good of the whole.

As we approach a new year, it is an opportune time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. I challenge you to make time for this reflection and planning, incorporating gratitude into the process. By reviewing your progress, setting new goals, and moving forward with gratitude, you can create the life you desire.

One of the main tradeoffs involved in challenging milestone-based happiness is the need to let go of societal expectations and external validation. Society often tells us that we need to achieve certain milestones, such as getting a promotion, buying a house, or reaching a certain level of success, in order to be happy. However, I believe true happiness comes from within and can be found in the present moment, regardless of external achievements.

The key to developing an abundance mindset lies in consciously choosing positive perspectives and flipping scarcity-based thoughts. I encourage you to view your life from a state of gratitude as this will attract more of what you desire. I understand that shifting to this deliberate thought process may not be easy, especially when facing challenging circumstances. However, I promise you that by working to see the blessings within each of your circumstances, your burdens will be lifted and you will develop the hope for a better future as you move forward.

I am excited to introduce you to my new friend Thais Fernandes. I felt inspired to leave this conversation as raw and natural as possible as I edited it. This was the first time Thais and I had met and it was amazing to see how our thoughts came together in real time. Inspiration is real as women seek to grow, develop and share their light and talents with others.

I loved this quote from our conversation:
"You have this amazing team in Brazil, and you said you have to be surrounded by the right people. Well, that doesn't just happen either, right? Heavenly Father can guide and what I've seen is sometimes those people are placed in my life even before I realize the connection or the purpose of why I needed them. And as I've interviewed other women entrepreneurs who are faith-based, they've noticed that too, that Heavenly Father will provide. They are doing the work, don't get me wrong, they are doing the work. They are seeking the answers. But Heavenly Father provides that network of people in our corner when we need them. And sometimes it happens before we even realize what's happening...It's all divinely orchestrated."

When we take certain actions to avoid feeling our emotions, this is called buffering. It can be easy to spot in some instances, but other times it takes a little digging to see what's really going on below the surface. By reflecting on instances where we've used buffering to escape feelings of sadness, disappointment, or frustration, we can gain insight into our emotional avoidance and the reasons behind it.

I need you to understand that I am not shy about coaching people through questions of faith. My faith is personal and unique to me and it doesn’t have to be the same faith as what you are looking for. I’m here when you need me.

If you know me in real life, you know I am a big proponent of kids packing their own bags for vacation and letting the natural consequences play out. That doesn't mean I just say 'go pack your bags' and wash my hands of the outcome. I typically write a list, reference the list several times, ask follow up questions, confirm certain details before we head out and then I attempt to wash my hands of the outcome. Thus the reasoning behind my son tromping through a college campus with his extremly clunky cowboy boots instead of his more comfortable tennis shoes and why I keep multiple brand new toothbrushes in the center console of my car. We're all a work in progress. I hope today's episode will serve as a reminder to double check your emotional backpack before you head into the next chapter of your life.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at a conference for the young sister missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In our pursuit of joy and personal growth, we often fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others. This dangerous habit can quickly rob us of happiness and hinder our development. AI is all the rage these days as it takes over our digital and creative world. As with all advances in technology, creators determine whether or not they will use their talents for the good of society or to our detriment. The end user will also need to decide how they will use the new tool. Will they use it to develop their talents and create new products that allow others to positively contribute to society? Or will they develop something that consumes valuable resources to combat? The answer lies with the creator.

Today we’ll meet Kinzie Hamilton, a BYU grad student and co-creator of PodFlow, an AI software that seeks to simplify and enhance the podcast editing process. I have enjoyed getting to know Kinzie as she and her team fine tune the software behind PodFlow. As an entrepreneur, I have enjoyed watching their team problem solve and troubleshoot the natural hiccups of taking a new product to market. Enjoy the episode as you consider your own talents and the faith necessary to taking those first steps.

I believe that each of us has God given talents that we are here to learn about, to cultivate and to share with others. As we develop our talents and use them to bless others, we too walk away with even more blessings and experiences for our good.
But how do we develop these talents when we're in the thick of raising our families and trying to keep our heads above water as we keep our tiny humans alive?
Where will we find the mental wherewithal to learn new skills when all of our extra mental energy is taken up with worry as we guide our squirrely tweens and teenagers through the wonderful middle school years and into high school?
Be sure to grab a pen and paper for the first part of the episode as we answer all these questions and more!

Raising teenagers is much like experiencing a deep fog on the troubled and open waters of life. As mothers, we know the very real dangers facing our children. We know our children will face very real dangers. We have conversations to prep and drill them in an effort to prepare them for the tough times when they will need to make snap decisions and prevent themselves from getting caught in tricky or dangerous situations. And we hope and pray they will be protected from danger and harm.

But even with all the prep, our children will make choices with very real consequences. Sometimes our teenagers will fill us in before the consequences hit. But not all teenagers will. Sometimes, issues will build and compound until they reach their boiling point, catching us so off guard leaving us wondering how in the world we will handle the situation.

Time and time again, mothers are left reeling from the aftershock of information their teenager has shared with them about a choice they made or something someone did to them. Today's episode seeks to help mothers as they navigate how to move forward when they simply don't know how to.

As our boys grow, the conversations will change. The topics will become more difficult and their willingness to participate in the conversation might become extinct. Tension and fear can easily drive wedges between parents and teenagers as both explore new territory, new choices and new emotions. It is inevitable that our sons will make choices that we don’t agree with but that doesn't mean we can't show up as the confident loving mothers we want to be.

Today's episode will outline a better way to approach your teenager and guide him with confidence as he navigates all that today's world will throw at him. If you feel like you need someone to talk you thru a certain situation with your teenager, please reach out!! You can schedule your free session here.

As parents, our thoughts about topics that have previously been labeled as taboo will affect whether or not we discuss things pertaining to them with our teenagers. Some will label many of these topics as uncomfortable, inappropriate or unnecessary while others will label them as no big deal, normal, important and necessary. How you label each of these topics will affect how you show up for your child in times when they need information concerning them.
I believe that the most powerful teaching tools lie within the home and family. As we create a safe space for difficult conversations within the framework of a loving family, we open the doors to a better future for our kids, our teachers and our schools.

For the past couple of weeks we've talked about making and keeping goals. We've taken time to access our starting point and determine our end point. We've determined our protocol and how we'll achieve the goal. While that is all important work, the work you do this week will be the most important work you do.
We are all human, and that means we will make mistakes from time to time and we won't follow the plan exactly as we've scripted it. Knowing ahead of time how we will think about our actions during those times is the most valuable work we can do.
This week you'll also learn about bridge thoughts as you seek to become your new goal.

We’re continuing our start of year conversation about goals today. And if you remember, last week I encouraged you to fill out the 2023 Pre-Assessment to establish a starting point in several different areas of your life. One of the purposes of setting goals is to grow and develop our different strengths and overcome weaknesses.
Once you have completed the pre-assessment you can dig into the next step and start drafting some goals. Take a quick listen to this week's episode and then download the Goal Worksheets here.
As we start to draft your goals you will reflect on your ratings, then ponder on how you would like to improve and develop in each area. You will come up with one thought you want to believe in regards to each area and you will think about how your life will be different as you hit your goals.
It's exciting and impactful work and I can't wait to see what you create in 2023.

When I was in high school, I stumbled across a talk by Marvin J Ashton that had been given several years prior. The talk contains some real gems in the form of thoughts and calls to action. As we close out this year and move into the next one, I want to share excerpts from the talk for you to ponder on. This talk was written almost 31 years ago, well before social media, but the advice is strikingly applicable to today’s world and the problems we face. What call to action will you act on?

Trisha came into my life about four years ago when I started working for the same company that Trisha has been working for. We have since developed a TRUE friendship. Many a conversation has been had in the wee hours of the morning as we have offered support and guidance for each other on a myriad of topics ranging from trivial to spiritual and everything in between. We have laughed together and at each other and we have each shed our fair share of tears as we have supported one another during times of trial. Our friendship is not unique, because this is who Trisha is.

Trisha is a woman of faith, not by coincidence but rather by choice and thru the personal work she has done to draw closer to our Savior. She has dedicated her life to helping others also feel God’s love for them. For the past couple of years, Trisha has been helping to support, guide and care for her aging mother. The experience has brought pain, frustration, grief and heartache. Recently, Trisha shared a few tender experiences that have brought joy, peace, love and hope for her and her family. She is a true inspiration and I can't wait for you to her what she has to share in part one of this two part conversation.

I'm excited to share my conversation with our special guest, Lyndee Walker.

Lyndee is a full time mom of 3, part time lash artist, part time substitute teacher living in the PNW. When Covid-19 shut schools down, she closed her doors for lash clients and became a full time teacher to her Pre-K, 2nd, and 5th grade children. After the kids returned back to school, she returned to her clients. With a shortage of substitutes at the schools, she found herself being called to help the teachers and schools. From music teacher and 4th grade teachers in the elementary school to health and art teachers in the middle school, she just wants to help lift the load where she can.
Be sure to listen to the full conversation as Lyndee shares a fun piece of info that brings all of this full circle for me.

Last week the school where I was substitute teaching went into a full real life lockdown. We were tasked with keeping the students quiet and safe for five hours before releasing them to their parents. I've struggled to put this experience into words as the emotions are still bubbling under the surface. But what are we if we are not brave?

I'm excited for you to meet my new friend, Jill Pack. In this episode we learn more about her work as she helps women of faith to create a life they love thru all seasons. What I love about her work is that it so easily translates and supports the work we are doing on this podcast to support mothers and teachers in the public education system. The work Jill is doing truly exists to elevate the individual and I can't wait for you to hear what she has to share.

In her own words she describes herself as follows:
'In my younger years, I would describe myself as shy. I loved participating in all kinds of activities but I didn't like to be the center of attention. I looked up to people who seemed confident and sure of themselves. I wanted to be like that but I didn't understand that I was the creator of my own confidence.
I was married and became a mother at the age of 22. Over the next ten years, my husband and I welcomed 5 amazing humans into our home. Being a stay-at-home mother for 28 years was the hardest and best thing that I have ever done. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
When I hit my 50’s I found myself entering a new season of life, empty-nesting. I had spent almost three decades caring and serving others . Now that my role was changing, I began to wonder what my purpose was. I wondered if I even had anything to offer in this new phase in life. That is when I found life coaching. I have come to realize that life isn't over at 50. What I thought was a mid-life crisis was actually a mid-life awakening and it is awesome! Instead of believing life is over, I have embraced the beauty of living life to its fullest and the failure that comes with it. I am not longer afraid of failing because on the other side of it is learning and becoming more of who I want to be. I became a life coach specializing in helping women of faith create a life they love. I share tools and tips that help you manage your mind as you create more joyful connections with yourself, others, and God . I teach you how to create a life you love. One full of intention and purpose.'

What if as mothers, we step up to support teachers, to provide honest relief in ways that are helpful and supportive of the individual teachers and educators in our lives?? Is this too big of an ask for a group of individuals who are also tired, overworked and under supported?

The past couple of weeks I have been seeking ways that mothers can support teachers while continuing to nurture and protect their own mental, physical and emotional needs. I’ve seen so many examples pop up!!! And as I have been working to share their stories with you on this podcast, it has prompted me to reflect on my talents and the skills I have developed throughout my life to see how I can help in a bigger way.

Join me as I share 5 lessons learned on my first day of work outside of the home in 15 years.

It's no big secret that the public education system is in dire need of help. Our students need help and better supports. Our teachers and educators are doing the best they can with limited and non-existent resources. We as mothers and parents, can step up.
There are many ways we can help to elevate individual teachers. An elevated and supported teacher will become a stronger and more confident advocate for change within the education system.

When we seek to elevate the individual, we elevate society. It is for this reason that I have created a quick questionnaire for mothers, parents and teachers, asking for small ways in which we can help each other. Give a quick listen to this episode and then click the link to fill out the questionnaire below.
Thank you thank you thank you!! I really appreciate your help and ideas!

W**e tend to give ourselves titles and badges that we think we have earned. In the past week of working with my clients these are some of the titles they mentioned: Wordly, Pessimistic, Negative, Bad with Money, Always Behind, Just a Beginner and Unworthy.

If you have every labeled yourself with one of these titles, this episode is for you. Using the CTFAR model, we'll dig in and decipher between fact and fiction and discover the impact these titles have in our lives.

Thanks for listening!! I'd love to hear your feedback on the Podcast and welcome your reviews.
