The 1st lady on the our podcast had to be none other than Coach Kristeena Alexander. Since our days as colleagues at The George Washington University in our nation's capitol, she has been a shining example of what a true point guard is commissioned and expected to do on any team in her role as a coach. To say that Coach Kristeena Alexander controls the tempo of her life and those who are a part of it, is a complete understatement. Lock in as we listen intently to her philosophy of learning, teaching, evolving and leading. There's no doubt in my mind that you will find all is calm, all is bright when she's running the point before, during and after the recruiting process.

Had I not ever met Ed Huckaby, Jr., dare I say that I may not have stepped into and remained in the coaching profession. To say he's my mentor completely minimizes and borderline negates the brotherhood we share. We wax deep on fatherhood, parenthood, mentorship, character and the evolution of the game and the profession and the ever present need for faith and social justice in it's purest form no matter the season. His stats during his 33 year coaching career can be found below.

For twenty-four seasons, Ben E. Williams provided leadership, guidance, and inspiration to his players both on and off the basketball court as the head coach of Scott High School’s Varsity Boys Basketball Team. The product of humble beginnings in Madison County, Mississippi, Williams fought through personal adversity to become a standout four-letterman at Woodward High School. His efforts earned him an athletic scholarship to Bowling Green State University [BGSU] where he played under legendary coach Harold Anderson and earned both a Bachelor and Master’s Degree.
His Scott Bulldogs were ranked in the Ohio API/UPI Top Ten eleven times; moreover, his teams won eleven city league, nine district, and five regional titles. In 1990, the USA Today High School Basketball Poll ranked Williams’ varsity team eighth in the nation. Posting a phenomenal 27-1 record, the 1990 Scott High School Bulldogs won the Ohio Division I State Boys Basketball Championship. Soon after, Toledo Public Schools renamed the Scott High Fieldhouse, Ben E. Williams Fieldhouse, in honor of Coach Williams. While his basketball achievements mean a great deal to him, Williams has repeatedly affirmed his extreme satisfaction in the fact that ninety percent of his basketball players attended college.
Williams has been the recipient of numerous awards. He has been inducted into the Woodward H.S. Hall of Fame, Scott H.S. Hall of Fame, and the Toledo City Athletic League Hall of Fame as a coach and along with his 1990 State Championship Team. One of his most notable honors came in 2000 when Williams became the first African-American Coach inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2015, Ben Williams was greatly honored to be named as a “Legend” by The African-American Legacy Project of Northwest Ohio.
Since his retirement from teaching and coaching in 1998, Williams continued to serve Toledo youth through the establishment of his non-profit organization Ben E. Williams Youth Services Inc. until retiring yet again in 2020. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Williams has been married to his wife Aerielle for fifty-nine years. He credits his professional success in part to the love, support, and stability provided by his wife and their wonderful children and grandchildren.
