This Podcast is all things graded sports cards. I'm your host, Aamil Sarfani and I'll be bringing a real estate investing background to Sports Cards as a means of growing both an investment and a collection! I'll be talking about how I approach the market, why I'm buying certain cards, mistakes I made and will be bringing in guests so you can hear different perspectives. I hope this show helps you in your Sports Card journey! For More Content (IG, Youtube, Tik Tok): https://linktr.ee/slabtalk
This show was my first time setting up as a dealer at one of the biggest card shows of the year. I always use card shows as an opportunity to shift my collection in real ways and this show wasn't any different. I made some huge sales and pickups as my collection continues to change in this evolving market. I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of setting up as a dealer, how the market feels, and trade night.

I'm back! And I'm energized to come back to content in a new way. On this episode, we talk about Donovan Mitchell getting traded and the new about Kevin Durant staying in Brooklyn.
Then I dive into major changes to my PC and more importantly how I approach it. Trading MJ for Justin Herbert?? I'll tell you why and I think I might be on to something.

This is the second part of our National episodes this week. This is the where we really dive into the deals that fundamentally changed our collections for the better. We talk about narrowing our PCs and trading a good long term card for shorter term potential especially if you're having to take a loss on a card. We talk Willie Mays, Bill Russell, Tim Duncan, Hulk Hogan and Justin Herbert just to name a few.

The National 2022 is over and... it was AWESOME. It was awesome mostly because Rob and I got to me, the hobby is so alive with a ton of positive energy and momentum, and it was truly the best because of all the listeners that came up and showed some love. We appreciate you. On Part 1 we dive into the vibes of the show, the difference between walking around and setting up as a dealer, and differences between having cash and trading at these card shows. Then we break down a major sale that Aamil made of the 1985 Michael Jordan Nike Promo 10. A roller coaster of a deal that gets done and all of a sudden, Aamil is collecting Justin Herbert.

The National is only one week away and on today's episode we do a full breakdown of our strategy going into what we feel is the Hobby New Year. Aamil talks about his plan to go after a huge Tim Duncan Rookie card as a major staple of his collection and Rob is going in with less of a plan but with the hopes of finding something he's not expecting. Regardless, we both plan on making moves and we also very excited about meeting one another for the first time. We also talk about some logistics to keep in mind to maximize your time there. \

As always, Rob is making moves... but his mindset is changing and today we talk about it. A couple years ago it felt like we would never be able to get our hands on the cards that truly matter to the collecting world but like everything that goes up, it must come down. And it is now time to be looking at your own personal grail cards because this will be a time over the next weeks, months, and years that it will be possible if you put your mind to it and we definitely are. We also talk about set collecting and how much more possible that has become again.

On this episode, Both Rob and I are making moves! One more than the other but not what you think. Aamil is also back in the action having attended trade night in San Antonio at Boomtown Sports Cards. We talk about what card I traded to get a Tua Rookie Donruss Optic Downtown. If you've been following along, you'll definitely recognize the card. Trading is a tool that allows you to change your card collection way faster which can help in giving yourself another strategy if one isn't working or if you are tired of a certain card in your collection without having to find a cash buyer. Congrats to Rob on the big news and we are both excited to meet each other and all of you at the National. Follow us on instagram to find out where we will be setting up.

On this episode, as an offshoot of our NBA Finals Recap, we discussed how long does Jayson Tatum have to play before people stop trading his rookie cards on what he could become, but rather what he has done (i.e. the Bradley Beal effect)? And by way, lower the ceiling that people would pay for his cards. We also talk about where Giannis, Luka and Zion falls in their "Trading on Potential" windows. To end the pod, we also discuss how we actually engage with the hobby on a day to day basis and how we find true joy out of this hobby that we spend so much time on.

On this episode, Rob and Aamil take a deep dive into what is actually going on in the market. We are at a pivotal time with a lot of negative talk in the market and it's time to really look at the different tiers of cards (high, middle and low end) since the story is different across the tiers. We also look at the Stephen Curry and Lebron James markets to get a sense of whether or not it is better to buy the GOATS or is it better to take some more risks with younger players that have untapped potential. We end the show talking about the NBA Finals and who we think will be the eventual NBA Champions of the 2021/22 Season.

Josh with CardLadder joins to talk to Rob about what it means to acquire a huge chase card like the one Rob just acquired with his recent buy of a 2003 Lebron James Ultimate Collections Autograph Rookie /250. Rob and Josh also discuss what's happening in the market. The guys start off by recapping Rob's experience at Rick Probstein's Autographfest Card Show in New Jersey this past weekend. They talk about what the show was like and how it was to see Ric Flair, Allen Iverson Michael Vick and more in person. The main topic of the show is a discussion about what drives more people to buy a player's cards - a player's Legacy or rather the potential a player has. We discuss the Giannis, Tatum, Stephen Curry, and the Chris Paul markets as part of that discussion. If you've been listening you know that Aamil has struggled on what to do next with his collection. With a lot of money tied up in nice high end cards, that can mean less activity in the hobby, and that's opposite of what we want out of this hobby. Aamil and Rob dive into what it means to truly buy cards for the long term and adjusting expectations as a lot of things have changed in the hobby. They also talk about taking into consideration some of the macroeconomic trends that are taking place in our world at this moment as we look at the broader Sports Card Strategy.

Rick Probstein is the Biggest Consignment house on eBay under "Probstein123". If you're looking at cards on eBay, you've definitely come across cards being sold through his consignment house. We answer questions like what is consignment, why do people use it, and how auction houses operate in the hobby. Consignment also has a darker side as well. It's the center of the conversation when we talk about shill bidding and some of the market manipulation that can occur because of the natural incentives that exist in the consignment world. The discussion definitely gets lively as we talk about some of the real problems that exist. We appreciate Rick being on the show and having the discussion with us. The Bounce Episode 23.

Rob only bought his Tatum Flawless Rookie Patch Auto card just about 6 weeks ago and in that time period, he nearly double his money. In this episode we dissect how the deal went down, how he negotiated it, and what his thought process was on this flip. Both Aamil and Rob have some major cards of players playing in this years playoffs including Tatum, Morant, Giannis, and Steph Curry. We talk about what our plans our with those cards and how we think about those plays heading into the post season. Over the last week, there have also been some huge names in pop culture that have participated in the hobby. Logan Paul wore his $5.3m Pikachu card around his neck at Wrestlemania and Drake participated in a box break with Ken Goldin. What do these names and others like Gary Vee do for the hobby? On this episode, Rob talks about his latest pickups in the Vintage Card World. Over the weekend he bought iconic rookie cards of Wilt Chamberlain and Hank Aaron. There are definitely differences with cards that are from the 1950s and 60s and Aamil and Rob discuss the thought process. We talk about seeing grade of the card differently than just targeting PSA 10s as we are all accustomed to caring about so much and what the vintage market looks like when trying to resell the cards.

Flipping cards can definitely be risky, but there is a lot of fun in trying to be right. Ultimately, that's the catalyst that makes buying cards of active players a lot of fun. You can make a Sports Card "bet" on what you think what might happen and/or how you think people will react to it and if you're right, chances are you will have an opportunity to make some money on a card. We talk about buying a player when it doesn't feel good like Kyrie Irving or Zion Williamson this season. We also talk about whether or not the narrative around Kevin Durant can change, making him more collectable. It's a fun conversation and if you like the idea of buying current players, you'll enjoy this one.

Some of the most common questions we get - How can you figure out value of a card when there aren't a lot of comps? How can you determine and use multipliers based on other sales of comparable grades or players? How we use eBay sales in determining a card's value? On this episode, we discuss all of these topics. Russell Wilson is now a Bronco after the huge trade announcement made today. Aamil and Rob talk about what that means for his card market and whether or not he is a buy. The main part of the episode is all about Rob's major moves after freeing up $30,000 from the New Jersey Trade Show two weekends ago. He's already spent the majority of it and the crazy thing is, Rob is making NBA prospecting moves instead of safe GOAT buys. Starting from high level of raw vs graded. If they are buying a card graded, which is mostly what they are doing, they go into what grades they consider, how the population of the grades plays into it, and how the grading company affects their decision. On this episode, I talk about the Dallas Card show as a recap from the last episode on the feed where you heard me prep for the show. The main part of the today's episode is about me self reflecting on my collection a bit and being okay with not knowing exactly where you want to go next. I have a lot of my Card money in the market right now and patience is really important for me to exhibit as I figure out my next move in the hobby. Thanks for listening.

At the Dallas Card Show, I sat down with Demian Werner, COO, and Mike Baker, CEO of Mike Baker Authenticated to talk about their company. We talk about why authenticate already graded cards through them, the different levels and what they mean, and what they believe their value in their market is. There is no doubt that the cards authenticated by MBA are getting a premium in the market place, so it was a really insightful conversation on why. I submitted 4 cards with them, so you will see why I picked those four and the results of that submission.

Are the Nets players still a good buy, how should we think about Lebron and Lakers with all the injuries they are dealing with, and are there any stars that hold major upside before we head into a major run up?
