I always use card shows as an opportunity to shift my collection in real ways and this show wasn't any different. I made some huge sales and pickups as my collection continues to change in this evolving market. I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of setting up as a dealer, how the market feels, and trade night.

The National 2022 is over and... it was AWESOME. It was awesome mostly because Rob and I got to me, the hobby is so alive with a ton of positive energy and momentum, and it was truly the best because of all the listeners that came up and showed some love. We appreciate you. On Part 1 we dive into the vibes of the show, the difference between walking around and setting up as a dealer, and differences between having cash and trading at these card shows. The National is only one week away and on today's episode we do a full breakdown of our strategy going into what we feel is the Hobby New Year. As always, Rob is making moves... but his mindset is changing and today we talk about it. A couple years ago it felt like we would never be able to get our hands on the cards that truly matter to the collecting world but like everything that goes up, it must come down. On this episode, Rob and Aamil take a deep dive into what is actually going on in the market. We are at a pivotal time with a lot of negative talk in the market and it's time to really look at the different tiers of cards (high, middle and low end) since the story is different across the tiers. We also look at the Stephen Curry and Lebron James markets to get a sense of whether or not it is better to buy the GOATS or is it better to take some more risks with younger players that have untapped potential. Rick Probstein is the Biggest Consignment house on eBay under "Probstein123". If you're looking at cards on eBay, you've definitely come across cards being sold through his consignment house. We answer questions like what is consignment, why do people use it, and how auction houses operate in the hobby. Consignment also has a darker side as well. It's the center of the conversation when we talk about shill bidding and some of the market manipulation that can occur because of the natural incentives that exist in the consignment world. On this episode, Rob talks about his latest pickups in the Vintage Card World. Over the weekend he bought iconic rookie cards of Wilt Chamberlain and Hank Aaron. There are definitely differences with cards that are from the 1950s and 60s and Aamil and Rob discuss the thought process. We talk about seeing grade of the card differently than just targeting PSA 10s as we are all accustomed to caring about so much and what the vintage market looks like when trying to resell the cards.

Flipping cards can definitely be risky, but there is a lot of fun in trying to be right. Ultimately, that's the catalyst that makes buying cards of active players a lot of fun. You can make a Sports Card "bet" on what you think what might happen and/or how you think people will react to it and if you're right, chances are you will have an opportunity to make some money on a card. We talk about buying a player when it doesn't feel good like Kyrie Irving or Zion Williamson this season. We also talk about whether or not the narrative around Kevin Durant can change, making him more collectable.
