Giver of pep talks, truth bombs, and overall savagery. Do not diminish your light, ever. ☀️ Sometimes I'm slightly above average with words. :)
My podcast is about ensuring students know they are seen. They are heard. They are noticed. They are valued.
I want to encourage students to have empathy, respect, lead with kindness, and hold high standards for themselves and those around them. So that when they are not met with those qualities, they not only can recognize the mistreatment, they are equipped with the skills to stand up for themselves.
My Dreamers and Achievers,
Success looks different for everyone. For some it could be scoring the winning shot in the soccer championship game. For others it could be making enough money to live comfortably. For another it could be becoming the first generation college graduate of your family. While for others it could be driving your dream car down Ocean Avenue. Whatever “success” looks like for you, you will need TWO “things” to get you there. Do you have them both?
I could speak on this topic for ages, and I think I just might, but for today’s podcast, I give you a fast rundown of what you need to be your definition of successful. Now are you willing to go for it?

My “I can’t believe it’s time to head back to school” listeners,
Golly. I say it every year, but this summer flew by…right?!?!
As we embark on yet another adventure, I wanted to provide some ways you can succeed this upcoming school year. But these aren’t your usual “stay organized”, “get to class on time”, etc. sort of insights (I mean those are great too). These techniques are what people aren’t telling you, but they are just as valuable.
You got this. I believe in you.

My Thirsty for More Tips and Tricks Listeners,
I have heard your requests for more tips. It seems as though we can all use a little TLC these days, and I am happy to provide you with more content. :)
Today I’m focusing on three MORE ways to avoid burnout because let’s face it, we can’t be happy and content 100% of the time, and that’s okay. But my goal is to give you strategies to avoid staying stuck in “just content” because we were born to thrive, not just survive.
Let’s get it.

My Cycle Breakers,
We have been tricked into this theory that if you are not busy, you are not successful. If you are not constantly moving, you are lazy. If you are not pushing yourself, you are falling behind.
If you believe any of that mumbo-jumbo, I am here to tell you, that is FALSE.
In fact, rest does not make you unsuccessful. Taking a mental health day does not make you lazy. Slowing down to reflect does not make you fall behind.
Today’s podcast focuses on three simple ways to avoid burnout. Write these down. Absorb them. Use them. Generously. And if you have more to add, drop them in the comments below because we are cycle breakers, and we are in the business of health.
With a “we’re breaking cycles today and everyday” mentality,

My Believers, Thinkers, and Achievers,
If you are like me, I sometimes dream BIG, but I don’t always know where to start. And then that fun little pestering bug called procrastination pops up and talks me out of even starting. Does that sound like you? If so, today we are canceling procrastination because there is strength in numbers, and I don’t know about you, but I’m stubborn AND strong. So let’s get to work.
Today, I break down why self reflection is vital, what struggles I’ve gone through preventing me from beginning, and how I am pledging to do this exercise alongside you. Because at the end of the day, if even one person finds solace in journaling, I will be one proud Momma Bear.

I cannot take credit for ALL these fabulous, thought-provoking prompts. Some came from AuthenticallyDel.
Dear Rising Graduates,
It’s been one week since we have had to set alarms, begrudgingly get out of bed, make our lunches, and prepare for a full day of schooling. So what have you done since then?
Let’s check-in, what has served you well? What do you want to get rid of? What new routines do you enjoy? What adjustments need to be made? It is NEVER too late to start over.
Today, I’m walking you through my thought process behind each of these questions. After all, role modeling HOW to perform a new skill is my forte. ;) (I may know a thing or two about it.)

My Rising Students,
Looks like we made it. :)
It’s your FINAL week of school. Your FINAL chance to make school memories. Your FINAL moments of your current grade. Today I’m giving you THREE ways to MAXimize your time before that last bell rings.
On a side note:
Before you ask, yes; I will continue making YouTube videos and podcasts over the summer. The schedule may change a bit, but I’ll keep you in the loop. I will also be creating content for TikTok and Instagram, so you can find me on those other platforms throughout the summer as well. (You can’t get rid of me. :))

My Little/Big Worriers,
My darlings, sometimes life is hard. It’s unkind. It’s overwhelming. And your brain tries to protect you, telling you something is “off”, by having a physical response. A list of a few physical responses could be panic attacks, freezing, mentally shutting down, running away from the situation, your brain becoming “foggy”, etc.
Your body is alerting you that something is off, and it just wants you to be safe, so resetting yourself quickly is key. When you find yourself in one of those manic stages (panic attacks), I have a few phrases you can say to yourself to reset. Trust me they work. Use them generously. Share these with others.
Be gentle with yourself.

I mean it! Being a classroom teacher is awesome. I am confident in my skills and talents, but I feel it in my bones that I can do more, BE more. Soooo…what could you see me doing? My Perfectionists,
My darlings…oh my darlings.
This message hits home for me too. I have insecurities; we all do. Unfortunately, those insecurities can hinder or wilt our chances at living fully. We shrink; we hide; we conform because we believe the only way we will be accepted is to be “perfect”. If any of that resonates with you, listen to this week’s message.
I’m rooting for you to be bold enough to show your vulnerabilities to the world. :)

My Let’s Try Something New Warriors,
Ummm… You may not know this, but I LOVE animals. You may not also know that Saturday was sort of a sucky day. It was rainy, cold, and at one point I saw sleet fall from the sky (no joke). So instead of staying inside, my girls and I decided to hit up the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. We’ve been members for several years, so we figured we should put them to good use.
Come along with us as we explore the aquarium.
P.S. Trying something new here with the YouTube channel. Let’s see if it epically fails or succeeds. Haha Fingers crossed that it succeeds. :) You never know unless you try, right?

My school’s state testing begins this week, so with it, there are LOADS of anxious pre-teens walking around the building.
In under five minutes, I’ll give you five test taking strategies, so you can ease some of that stress. No matter what strategies you put in place, things won’t always go as planned, so be flexible; be patient; and remember, at the end of the day, no state test can take away the fact that you are awesome. :)

Wednesday was our annual science field trip for my school. I look forward to this day every year because it’s just a fun day to act like a kid allllll day (even for us adults).

My “Tell me another story” Listeners,
It’s no secret that I love to tell a good story. In fact, most of my teaching practices come from stories. Well, I have a doozy for you today.
I was explaining to students how it is truly a life skill to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations by using my own examples. Welllll…when I got to the part of the story with some non school appropriate words, my principal happened to hear me in my class, stopped his walk, and popped his head in. Obviously timing was never my strong suit.
Listen/Watch today’s podcast to see how the story ends. Talk about a cringe-worthy moment.

My People Pleasing Listeners,
I am one of you. Well, I used to be one of you. Wellllll, I am still one of you occasionally. :)
I grew up believing my job was to make everyone else happy. That it was an honor to sacrifice my own needs and wants for the needs and wants of others around me.
Oh boy, how wrong I was. Now that I’m an adult, I wish one of the things I could say to my younger self is “I am not responsible for making others feel comfortable.” How powerful (and uncomfortable) is that statement? Listen in as I explain my reasoning for why I believe others can sit in their own discomfort from time to time.

My Community of Listeners,
I have been an athlete and sports lover my entire life, so naturally when it’s time for March Madness to roll around, I’m eager and excited to participate. I thought I’d allow students to join me this year, and boy, did I underestimate the teachable moments that would follow.
Leaders emerged.
Excitement around athletics blossomed.
Students who are not even on my roster wanted to participate.
Engagement is/was at an all time high.
And then it hit me… I don’t just need to build a classroom community. I need to build a community PERIOD. So that’s what I’m going to do. Listen in on how I did just that with the Madness that is March.

…
…
…
I’m not the greatest at following my own advice. (I know, shocker.)
My lovely therapist pointed something out to me during this week’s session. She said, “So with everything on your ‘to do’ list, where did you put ‘rest’?”
I was confused. Why would I put rest on my to do list? I can rest when I get the list finished, I thought.
However, my lovelies, after several clarifying questions because I am a naturally curious person, I understood. Come along with me as I explain why REST deserves a place on your “to do” list as well.

Us teachers talk alllll day long…mostly about you, but sometimes it’s about us. :) I have built some solid friendships throughout my teaching career; we’ve spent holidays together, traveled across the United States, held monthly dinner dates, and have shared soooooo many laughs.
So I thought why not turn this into a new series of: How Well Do You Know EQ?

You know, sometimes you just need a little push, a little nudge, to let you know you are doing something the world needs. To let you know you are on the right path. My Social Butterflies,
We live in a world that is constantly connected. We know what people are doing 24/7, what they are eating, where they are, and who they are with. Even with the best of intentions, we compare what we have and who we are to those we see online. And I realize people only present/post what they want us to see, and that may not always be reality. But perception IS reality to some. It can be exhausting to say the least.
So here’s what I did. I took a hiatus.
I deleted (from my phone, not forever; let’s not be crazy here) Instagram and Facebook for six days. Today’s podcast tells you how that went for me, and I challenge you to attempt the same.
Think you could unplug for a week? Prove it.

Teaching is sort of like a day long stand up comedy act. We are up there, giving our best, balancing curriculum details and character building, all while throwing in some wit, humor, and personality. Now, just like in comedy shows, sometimes the jokes don’t land…

I do NOT believe in “No Bad Days”, nor I do NOT believe in “Positive Vibes Only” because everyone will have a bad day, and no one can honestly say they’ve only encountered positive vibes in their life. It’s an unrealistic expectation that some place on themselves or others that ultimately sets you up for failure.
We all have bad days, and that’s okay!
And when you’re ready (after you have felt all the feels), I have just what you need to turn those bad days/moments/hours around with the help of my students and this week’s latest bell ringer activity.
Listen and be ready to take notes.
With a Thankful Heart,
Your Queen, EQ

My Superb Listeners,
I decided to tell you the other side of my terrible day from last week. Part I, I talked about my awful day which led me to coming in too hot in some situations. Part II, today, I want to show you the beauty of my students. Their hearts, attitudes, willingness to pick me up when I was down, and overall goodness helped me get out of my funk. This podcast is dedicated to them.
With a tearful, but feels so good, cry,
Your Queen, EQ

My Radiant Listeners,
Look. We all have bad days. We all have days that we wish to avoid, but they come barreling in like a tornado tearing up our mood and reeking havoc on our emotions. Wellllll EQ had one of those days on Thursday which then carried over to Friday.
I’m not proud of it, but it did affect my teaching and the way I handled situations. One of the skills I’ve been working on is self reflection, so once I took a breath and realized my “hotness”, I corrected my behavior and apologized to those caught in the EQ tornado.
Moral of the story: Listen to find out how I made things right and how we all can be role models to one another.
With a grateful heart,
Your Queen, EQ

My Effervescent Listeners,
Oh my darlings...my internal dialogue has been BUZZING this week with colorful language. Since last week was the final week of the first quarter, some students were hitting the panic button far too often hoping to scramble to increase their grades.
Today’s podcast showcases a few of favorite phrases/questions that us teachers LOVE to hear. Just kidding; we loathe these questions.
But...I don’t stop there! You think I’d just let you go without giving some advice for the second quarter? Oh Paaallleeeaaasseeeee. I got you, boo. Hang tight because this week’s video is fire.
Let’s goooooooo.
With an “if you ask me that one more time…” mantra,

My Dearest Ducklings,
There’s a huge problem emerging, and it’s only October. Teachers are losing steam, y’all. Teachers are being asked to take on more responsibility than ever, and it’s reaching a critical level.
What can you do to help us out? I’m so glad you asked. :)
Follow along to see how many of the six suggestions you can complete this week. (I’m keeping my fingers crossed for number five. :) )One thing that’s for sure, we need a change, and we need it fast. Let’s rally behind our teachers, and show them some love this week.

My Brilliant, Vibrant, Caring Listeners,
As I sat down this week to brainstorm topics, a common theme emerged. Gratitude.
So I ran with it.
This podcast is dedicated to taking the time to THANK YOU ALL who show up, not just for me with this podcast, but for you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for your inspiration. Thank you for your supportive nature. Thank you for being YOU. After all, none of this is worth anything if people don’t listen and gain a strong sense of self and value because that’s why I’m here.
I’m here to remind you that YOU MATTER, and the world is better because you exist. Never forget just how valuable you are.
With a “Ready for Another Week of Prayer List Contestants” attitude,

My Humble but Sometimes Sassy Listeners,
Have you ever had one of those people who you can just count on 100%? The type of person who will challenge you, support you, cheer for you, and be there for you when it all falls apart? Well...I am lucky enough to have several. Those people are my marigolds, and in my first marigold podcast, I spoke about how to find them. In this podcast, I expand on how marigolds can make your life soooooooooooo glorious.
This is Marigold Part II.
Marigolds. Find them. Keep them.

My Invested and Conscientious Listeners,
Whew! What a week. You know, I knew being an independent, strong, feminine woman would mean I’d have to face a whole new set of challenges while living alone, but being an independent, strong, feminine would also mean I would be able to face fears, take risks, and settle into a new type of strong. The type of strong that showcases vulnerability and is able to ask for help.
Today’s podcast is about a classic hate/hate relationship where one person triumphs (in a way), and the other dies slowly in a dumpster.
With a small victories create big moments mentality,

My Powerful Beings,
Are you reactionary? Do you quickly clap back?
Yeahhhhh….we’ve all been there. We’ve all sent that snarky reply without hesitation to a nasty text or comment. How did that work out for you? Probably not as great as you’d hope, if at all.
Here’s the thing. Your power lies in the pause. The person who sends the disrespectful text is egging you on. They want you to instantly react in a grand way, so they can call you “crazy”. DON’T ENGAGE. Again, your power lies in the pause.
Don’t instantly react. Put down the phone. Walk away. Go talk to someone who helps you stay sane. Do anything but text back right away. And after you’d had some time to decompress, go ahead and respond. But respond on your time, not the baiter.

My Overachievers and Perfectionists,
My brain has been struggling to find a routine and rhythm ever since we transitioned from a summer mindset back to a school mindset. But I’m tired of feeling like I’m constantly dragging through my days, so I’ve come up with a plan.
In today’s podcast, I challenge you to complete these THREE “things” I plan to do daily to increase my overall presence and center my body and mind. If we all do it together, we can hold one another accountable. Who will be my accountability partner?
Let’s intentionally live life instead of just allowing life to drag us along.

My candy wishers and rap battle beat makers,
Whew. This week was exhausting but GLORIOUS!
Who knew I had so many talented students in my midst? On today’s podcast, I talk about my week recap which includes library police, intentionally hitting students with rockets for candy, and of course rapping to a sick beat because who doesn’t love an impromptu rap formulated from a paragraph constructed purely out of inspiration from five emojis? Am I right?
For those who are still with me and know exactly what I’m referring to, you have just earned yourself 50 invisible gold stars. Don’t spend them all in one place.
Wow, I love teaching.

My ducklings,
How many times have you seen or heard something that bothered you, but you didn’t say anything? How many times have you witnessed an injustice, but you were too afraid to take action?
Nothing gets me more riled up than when I see someone mistreat another soul...especially if the recipient is one close to my heart. This weekend I had had enough and stood up for one of my ducklings. (Remember, we don’t question the science.)
Follow along in today’s podcast as I remind a male coach that his words matter, and we’re all listening, so choose wisely.

My Newest Followers,
Welcome to the journey, newbies! I’m glad you’re here.
I spent four days this week with incoming 7th graders, and I noticed three trends. My biggest takeaway of those four days was how the environment was thrilling. You could literally feel the excitement in the halls. (Well not literally, but you know what I’m trying to say.)
This week’s podcast sheds light on those trends, and if you are not as thrilled as I am for school, you have one week left of summer vacation. :)

My Creative Warriors,
This past week, I tasked my children with creating a “Day of Fun”...a day which they design our entire agenda. I first started Day of Fun with my children a few years back, and it is now a tradition we very much look forward to. The way it works is I tell the girls the day before that “Day of Fun” is the following day. They then create a list of ALL the things they want to do in one day, and we tackle as many as possible. It is an exhausting, but always memorable, day.
So I’m curious...what would make your list? What would YOUR Day of Fun look like if given the opportunity?

My No-Nonsense-Aint-Got-Time-For-Haters Listeners,
I’m coming in hot for this one. People love to shame and judge what they don’t understand or know. And instead of throwing shade automatically, what if we led with curiosity? What if instead of assuming the worst, we gave grace and asked questions?
So here are my thoughts. People sometimes suck, and they will say hurtful things to you. But that doesn’t mean YOU have to carry that burden. Today, I will show you five ways to respond to people who are on a mission to shame you because we ain’t got time for that.

My fate versus predetermination listeners,
Are you one of those people that believes in fate? Or are you the type of person that believes in predetermination?
I believe that each experience and every person is placed in my life for a reason. These people that come and go don’t need to have long lasting relationships with me. Small, seemingly mundane moments with individuals can count as life altering as well. It could be to teach me a lesson, have a listening ear, to support, etc. In today’s podcast, I explore one of my recent “I was meant to meet you” moments while my sister Katie was in town.

My It’s-Never-Too-Early-OR-Late-To-Find-Your-Passion Listeners,
You are quite the talented person; did you know that? You have something no one else has; use it. What are your passions? What sets your soul on fire? What do you get giddy to talk about with friends?
Today’s podcast challenges you to begin thinking about and exploring those passions. You don’t need to know what career you want to have yet. You have plenty of time for that, but focus on your strengths, your abilities, and your talents. The job will come. The career will fall into place.
For example, I KNOW my heart is with showing others their value, their worth, and their power. And BAAM, throw me into a middle school to empower young minds.
Now it’s your turn.
What sets your soul on fire?
With a never settle attitude,
Your Education Queen

My Monday Motivational Hip Acronym Listeners,
Whew! What a week. Your Queen has tackled a lot emotionally, physically, mentally, and all of the other -lys since I last posted. :) Therefore, I listened to my body and decided not to force a new podcast this week.
As you know, I aim to provide you the best of whatever topic I’m covering for the week. Well, this time, time escaped me, and rather than rush through a video, I decided to take a different approach.
I preach to you all to listen to your body, so I’m taking my own advice. But don’t you worry, I’ll be back next week, and the week after, and the week after, and all the weeks after that giving you my thoughts, inspirations, stories, and tea.
Until then, listen to YOUR body. If you need rest, take it.
Oh, and don’t forget your manners. :)
With a restful, grateful spirit,
Your Education Queen

My thirsty-for-another-story listeners,
Taking risks involves courage. It takes confidence. It trusts in hope.
In today’s podcast, I explore two stories from my high school days about when I took a risk. These two moments stand out to me because I believe my gut led my decision for both.
You see, your heart, your head, and your gut give you senses of what to do (or not to do). Sometimes they are on the same page. Sometimes they are all out of whack.
But what’s important is that you should take risks...especially if you are stuck in a routine and feel a sense of switching things up. You do not have to stay in something that’s comfortable simply because it’s comfortable. Seek opportunities that allow you to grow as a person. Begin putting yourself out there. Yes, some risks will land you flat on your face. But others will enrich your life in unimaginable ways. Either way, you will never know unless you try.
And yes, I did pass up Disneyworld. And yes, I did rock a duct tape dress to prom. Just watch the video. :)
With an adventure seeking heart,
Your Education Queen

My wanna-make-a-bet crew,
All I need is two minutes to prove you are important. Don’t believe me? Watch this week’s podcast. We (people in general) lack confidence from time to time and question whether or not we are good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, fill-in-the-blank enough.
Even the strongest minded individuals struggle periodically and need reminders of worth, of value, of bada$$-ery-ness. Yes, it’s a word...it’s just not in the dictionary yet. (I digress.)
So take the next two minutes and watch. Send this to someone who needs to hear it. And repeat as necessary.
With an open application to Webster's Dictionary,
Your Education Queen

For those who journal, you will LOVE this week’s podcast. For those who hate journaling and believe it’s not for you, humor me and try it out. :) (What do you have to lose honestly?)
In this week’s podcast, I explore five questions I ask my biological children dubbed our “end of the day wrap up”. If you seek a positive relationship between yourself and failure, try answering these five questions every day for a month. You’ll see a difference; trust me.

Summer is upon us. And with it, freedoms.
Freedoms from alarm clocks, deadlines, tests, and overall middle school drama.
But before you officially sign off your laptop one final time, I must ask you to perform these five “things”. (You thought I was going to list them here? Paaalllease. I need you to watch, like, and subscribe below (or above) because I’m click-baiting you today!) :)
But seriously, listen, enjoy, and smile.
You are ALMOST there. We did it. We made it. We accomplished something no one else has ever completed...an entire year of schooling in a worldwide pandemic!!! And although school is wrapping up just in time for summer, EQ will still be giving you weekly podcasts, so tune in every Monday for all your motivational inspirational needs...or I’ll find you (in a non creepy way of course...maybe).

Hey you,
Marianne Williamson is onto something. Her poem “Our Deepest Fear” is without a doubt my favorite. It’s one of those goosebumps, arm hair raising types of writing that challenges and motivates its readers.
At the end of the day, YOU better not shrink so others don’t feel uncomfortable around you. YOU were born for greatness. YOU already have greatness in you. It’s YOUR job to show that greatness to the world.
SO. GO. DO. IT.
The world is watching.

With the latest CDC update about mask wearers and vaccinations, it brings up lots of heightened emotions (which are often polarizing). While some people may be excited about the opportunity, others will be hesitant and concerned.

Glennon Doyle is my spirit animal, and while I was soaking up every word of her latest book, I came across a life lesson for myself that I wanted to share. Oh my sweet, would never harm a fly listeners,
This podcast is a classic “do what I say, not what I do” type of lesson. We all make mistakes; we all have our breaking points; we all deserve better than what we’re given at times. Look, even the Education Queen had to serve some time back in Junior/Senior High.
There’s always that classic “mean girl” (or Victor) in every situation. The boy who teases you. The girl who gangs up on you. The boy who trash talks you. The girl who invites her friends to bully you. You cannot always avoid the Stacys or Victors. (I’m feeling this one out. Can we all agree that the Karens and Chads are the “I need to see a manager” type while the Stacys and Victors are the “mean girl/boy” type? I say yes.) Learning how to handle the Stacys and Victors takes some finesse; finesse the young Queen did not possess in her younger years.
So sit back, relax, and listen to the couple times your Queen got served. (One of them wasn’t my fault!!!)
I hope you have the day you deserve,
EQ

You. Yes You!
What's better on a cloudy, dreary day than a little pep talk?
I will warn you though; after listening to this week's podcast, you may feel inspired to tap into your limitless potential...so the choice is yours.
And if you so desire to watch me rather than listen to me, I have a YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/c/QueenoftheClassroom
Wow. I asked students "What are some hard issues facing teens today?" and you came through for me big time. Once the answers starting rolling in, I knew this topic was bigger than me, so I called in reinforcements.
Susanne Maurer, a licensed professional therapist for 20+ years, joins me in this week's episode to discuss mindfulness exercises, anxiety, naming behaviors, social media pressures, positive and negative self talk, and how parents can help support teens today. Trust me, you will want to bookmark, download, and save this episode. So get out your favorite college ruled notebook (or the nearest piece of paper you can find), your erasable fine point pens (or writing utensil you found in the junk drawer), a drink (Earl Grey is my favorite), sit in a quiet place, and absorb the plethora of strategies you can use TODAY to help yourself, a friend, or family member.
With all the feels,
Your Queen

Beloved students,
As you grow nearer to senior year graduation, I want to remind you of something. There's no ONE way path to creating the future you want, and that's okay. We need to normalize people creating their own path in the world instead of judging them for taking a path that seems "wild", "irresponsible", or "wrong".
Keep striving for the future YOU want. I have faith that you'll find your way.
With love, a humble heart, and so many plans I lost count,
EQ
Dear Viewer,
It can be tough connecting with students digitally, but we can still accomplish it. I value small moments (and big moments, but expanding on the small moments is where I shine brightest). Finding those pockets (or windows of opportunity) is one thing, but knowing how to make the most of that time is another.
In today's podcast, I dive a little deeper into how to truly get the most out of online learning. Welcome to class; let's get started.
With all the love appropriate for a complete stranger,
EQ
The way I grew up was to work hard to earn whatever it was I was striving for, and I'm grateful for that mentality because it instilled grit and perseverance. If I didn't get first place, I didn't earn xyz, and that's okay with me. (Of course I hated it at the time, but it has made me a stronger person.) I could keep going. Keep pushing. Keep pursuing that prize.
I have that same mentality in my classroom. If you want the prize (whether it's a Kahoot or Grudgeball or gifting the class with the fewest missing assignments with a breakfast buffet), beat out everyone else.
If I were to reward every person for simply showing up, I am establishing the habit of "you get a prize for minimal work" or "you don't have to try hard because you'll still get a prize". And I'm not about that life.
You have it in you to be the best version of you. You have it in you be first. When you EARN that first place prize, it's going to feel sooooooooooooooooooo rewarding. I'll see you at the finish line.
My avid listeners and creative thinkers,
We all want to be able to reach our students whether we are in person or online, but this year has forced many of us to be creative. In today's podcast, I highlight three ways I've incorporated student involvement to peak engagement.
At the end of the day, it's about connections and building relationships. I can do that, and so can you.
What ways are YOU incorporating engagement through this virtual setting?
With humbleness and gratitude,
Education Queen (EQ)
You NEED (and want) to hear this message. Begin each day with it. It’s literally less than a minute of your time that can and WILL change your outlook on your value.
If you ever doubt your worth, watch this.
If you ever struggle with the value you bring to this world, watch this.
If you ever think, “I’m not good enough”, watch this.
My darlings,
When has it become okay for people to call you whatever is easiest for them? It's YOUR name isn't it? Your name is one of the best gifts you receive from your parents. It’s part of you! It is often the first thing people learn about you. So why are we settling when someone can’t pronounce it correctly and instead mutter “it’s fine”?
In today’s podcast, we discuss the power of your name and to never settle when it is mispronounced.
With all the smiles in the universe, The Queen

We all know I’m easily distracted and can go off on a tangent with the slightly breeze, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that story time came up last week with one of my classes. It made me giggle so much that I thought all of you would enjoy my blast from the past recollection.
What are some weird, mundane moments YOU remember vividly from your past?
Hey you.
Yes, you. Do you find yourself overwhelmed and flooded at times throughout the day? First of all, your feelings of anxiousness and unfocused thoughts are completely valid. Second, let me help you find some strategies to combat your overworked mind.
In this podcast, I discuss five strategies you can use when feeling overwhelmed. We all have those days or moments, but we don't need to sit in those feelings all day. Hopefully you can find at least one technique that resonates with you on your journey to improving your mental health.
You are never alone.
With grace, grit, and a sunshine personality,
Your Queen
Why Do I Offer So Much Choice In My Classroom?
Easy. I want to be the type of middle school teacher I would have wanted in middle school.
Don't get me wrong; I had some outstanding teachers as I was growing up in my teens, but certain moments throughout middle and high school will always stick with me (for all the wrong reasons). In this podcast, I dive into my reasons why I allow so much choice in my room. Of course, what works for me in the classroom will not work in every classroom, but for my teacher colleagues out there, feel free to steal any of this, adapt it to your style, and give it a go in your classroom. For my students out there (current and former), if I haven't explained my reasons behind the decisions I make, here you go. You will get an inside look. :)
Enjoy.
Now excuse me while I fill up my delightfully thoughtful student bought mug with a third cup of coffee.
Queen, out.
In this podcast, we explore the topic of marigolds. Farmers use marigolds to help protect crops from outside hazards. They support and nurture other plants, so I took this concept and applied it to school and life.
Who are YOUR marigolds?
Listen, absorb, write down the questions I ask, and journal.
Go get yourself some marigolds.
Queen, out.
Let's take a moment to appreciate those in our lives who take care of us. --We see you. --We thank you. --We notice you. Just in case no one has told you lately, you are incredible. :)
Hey!
You have passions.
You have skills.
You have dreams.
You have abilities.
Sooooo why are you allowing others to dictate what you can and can’t do?!?!
Listen up for a killer pep talk.
Do you believe you know me?
Want to know why I loathe the word "kiddo" or why I teach with the lights off? Perhaps you're curious about my lip sync battle performance or my game winning 3-point-shot (not really game winning, but it sounded nice) in the staff versus students basketball game?
Either way, this episode gives you scratches the surface of some of my biggest pet peeves and quirky teaching style.
Enjoy!
In this episode, I challenge you to find (or create) a quote that brings you motivation.
I reveal the two quotes that have been on my mind lately, and I encourage listeners to display the quote (or quotes) in a visible place, so when you need that extra nudge, it's there ready to serve you.
What brings you joy?
What words get you pumped?
What intentions are you setting for yourself today?
You'll have to turn up your volume for this episode. I am still learning this whole new world and messed up my audio. Darn technology!
There are people to thank that helped launch this podcast.
Judy Kim (you're my girl)
Creative Crew (let's get those t-shirts made)
No Name 7th period (we need a name desperately)
To my first followers and subs, THANK YOU. You believed in me before I believed in myself. Thank you for your grit, motivation, and awesomesauce ideas. You made this happen. :)
This is where it begins.
Thank YOU for starting this epic journey with me. I started this podcast because I want every student to know, with 100% certainty, they are seen. They are noticed. They are valued. They are wanted. They are more than enough.
My podcast is about showing middle school and high school students their value and worth as people, not just as students. It's about how kindness and respect should be the foundation to any relationship. My podcast is about arming my students (all students are my students) with empathy, strength, respect, kindness, and high standards, so that when they are being mistreated they can not only recognize it, but are equipped with the skills to stand up for themselves.
Middle School and High School are vitally important years for growth. Changes are unavoidable, but learning how to navigate those changes with self-love and nurturing, will set you up to tackle any unpredictability that may come your way in the future.
And finally, I believe words have power. You can choose to build someone up or tear them down with a single phrase.
Choose good. Choose to build. Choose kindness.
