Without a doubt we have entered a period of unprecedented economic uncertainty. Don't go through it alone.

Welcome to Part 1 of The Entrepreneur's Recession Response Program.

I'm so incredibly grateful that our first guest is Justin Dry, the Founder & CEO of Vinomofo.

He's overcome some pretty incredible challenges, grown the company from $0 to $50 Million, and now manages a team of over 100 people in 3 countries. He is one of the most exceptional entrepreneurs I know.

And this conversation is truly profound. We both reflect on how we've navigated the challenges (both personal and professional) in our lives, track the similarities and parallels in our journeys, and share some practical advice for business owners in this period to weather the remarkable storm we've found ourselves in.

[AUDIO FROM MY LIVE DISCUSSION: SURVIVING AND THRIVING IN CHALLENGING TIMES, WITH COVID-19]

The COVID-19 Pandemic is first and foremost a health issue, posing a risk to those with pre-existing health conditions and the elderly. While the vast majority of us aren’t at risk from a health perspective, many are rightly concerned about the business implications caused by COVID-19.

Recently, I spoke with The Entourage's Members, and followed up with our wider Community, to address the challenges we're currently being faced with. This is the audio from that very conversation, that my team and I also wanted to share with you on my podcast.

The main takeaway was this: SMEs and high-growth businesses will always face challenges. Working through them is part of the game. But how we choose to respond to challenge is completely up to us.

Now more than ever, the world needs leadership. The world needs people who can stay grounded, lead from the front, and make intelligent decisions. But with all the media attention and mass hysteria surrounding COVID-19, it can be difficult to see through all of that, and to look at what’s really going on and how it’s going to affect us.

This conversation is purposefully quite comprehensive, as I’ve wanted to take the time to share some lessons I’ve personally learnt in navigating extreme challenges in my life and business, and to draw on some of the research around COVID-19 to help paint a clear path forward for you all. You'll hear that I'll address each of the main considerations as I see them: health, business, personal and societal.

If you're a business owner, or working in a business that has been affected by COVID-19, this is the message you need to hear right now.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed at this moment, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Business is challenging enough when it’s “business as usual.” Do not try to battle through this alone. We are all going through this together. Trust that there is light at the end of this tunnel.

I see and hear TOO many business owners and entrepreneurs religiously subscribing to a single piece of recruitment advice which is outdated, old-school, institutionalised, and which DOES NOT apply to the types of businesses like the ones we actually run.

In fact, if you take on this advice, I fundamentally believe that it will put your business in limbo for years - because you won’t have a team with the capability you need to drive it forward.

What advice am I talking about?

In this episode, I’ll share with you the worst piece of advice around recruitment that you could ever take on in a high-growth business, and the recruitment philosophy you should subscribe to instead.

So many entrepreneurs and leaders get stuck in a perpetual state of fear, stress, aggression and grit. We think that’s where we get our fuel and drive from. And some actively seek it out, thinking it will push them to be better.

But that is an unsustainable fuel source.

And while so many are getting addicted to that fear-based fuel, a state of beauty and joy is more conducive to creating success in business, and in life.

I discuss these two states of consciousness - from a place of suffering and inner disturbance, and from a place of joy and inner peace - with one of the most transformational thinkers of our time in this interview.

Many of you who have heard me talk about consciousness before might also know that I import my passion and wisdom from India. Specifically, I import it from a beautiful organisation called O&O Academy. One of the founders, Preethaji, shares a very powerful message in this episode: that, to create, achieve and relate, we need to actively pursue a transformed and joyful state of consciousness. We dive deep into becoming a conscious wealth creator, shifting the fuel that drives us, and shatter the myths surrounding spirituality for entrepreneurs.

It’s no coincidence that most of the successful business minds I speak to have a deep sense of purpose (deeper than making money) and commitment to optimising their own consciousness and personal performance. I cannot wait to hear what you take away from this powerful interview.

Today’s episode of The Jack Delosa Podcast was inspired by an advisory session I recently had with a phenomenal business owner. This entrepreneur had been in business for over 15 years, but her life as a business owner had become so routine that she felt cut off from herself, and was no longer guided by a sense of purpose or meaning.

The conversation highlighted to me just how myopic and short-sighted we can become as entrepreneurs when we allow ourselves to be consumed by our businesses. The truth is: the richer you feel in yourself, the better entrepreneur and leader you will be.

Take this episode as the catalyst, and a personal challenge, to stop being one dimensional and step back into your humanity.

This is such a profound conversation.

For those of you who have been following me for a while, you’ll have heard me discuss how I view entrepreneurship as a spiritual endeavour - because entrepreneurship is ultimately about creation.

And as my businesses have grown, so too has my journey to discover and dig deeper into spirituality, soul and purpose.

I wholeheartedly believe that spirituality and entrepreneurship are on the same spectrum - and when an entrepreneur can tap into their intuition, higher self and sense of purpose, it can be their secret weapon for success.

My latest guest on The Jack Delosa Podcast has been an incredible guide, source of knowledge and support for me as I’ve navigated this intersection of spirituality and entrepreneurship. Helen Jacobs, author of the book, You Already Know, speaker and psychic, has been my soul guide for over the past year. In this episode, she discusses the practices and advice for aligning with your intuition, learning how to interpret it (even when it does not make sense), and finding the courage to follow it; and the power you’ll find in seeking stillness, silence and space.

With the end of the year, and the opportunity for reflection, fast approaching, there’s no better time to bring this conversation to the forefront. As you listen, I encourage you to lean in, keep an open mind, and walk away from the episode with at least 1 action you can take to tap into your spirituality.

If you’ve heard me talk about the principles that drive commercial growth, you’ll know how much emphasis I put on building an online presence, achieving recency and frequency, and engaging with your audience.

So for the latest episode of The Jack Delosa Podcast, I’ve partnered with PayPal Australia, who have recently commissioned some research on why it’s never been more important to build a comprehensive multi-channel digital presence.

Listen along to my conversation with PayPal Australia’s Head of Marketing, Vanessa Lennon, as she sheds some light on what SMBs need to know when it comes to building a successful online business. This is such a fantastic conversation, and I’m absolutely loving the data that is coming out of PayPal at the moment - it’s something business owners everywhere should familiarise themselves with.

Yes, building a social following will help grow your business. But what is more important is attracting the right followers. 10,000 engaged followers is far more valuable than a disengaged community of 1 million.

In the most recent episode of The Jack Delosa Podcast, I chat with Jules Lund, Founder of influencer marketing platform Tribe, to get his insights on the influencer trends that are set to explode this year, and some golden advice on how to ‘hack’ the elusive newsfeed algorithm.

Branding is one of the most fundamentally misunderstood areas of business.

It underpins every single function in your company and really underwrites how much traction your business will generate. In fact, your branding is often the reason your consumers will choose you over a competitor.

However, so many business owners continue to get it wrong.

They get caught up in the superficial, ‘iceberg’ elements of branding - the logo, the business cards, the colours - but fail to truly define what they actually stand for as a company.

In this episode of The Jack Delosa Podcast, I’m joined by branding expert Keiran Flanangan to talk about businesses can build truly iconic brands.

The advice we’re going to share today might go against everything you’ve been taught about business.

As entrepreneurs, we're hardwired for growth.

It's seemingly in our DNA to want to achieve 'more' and settling for 'good enough' just isn't in our vocabulary.

In fact, the questions I’m asked by business owners the most are: How do I get more clients? How do I make new sales? How do I increase profit? How do I get more time?

Surprisingly, the answer to growing your business, is actually getting comfortable with turning customers away (yes, you’re reading that correctly).

It might sound crazy, but the reality is, by trying to speak to and sell to everybody you often end up speaking to nobody.

Instead, in order to win more customers you need to get laser-focused on your ideal customer, and master the art of speaking directly to them.

One of the people who has pioneered this approach is Marie Forleo (Founder of B-School), who I recently had the opportunity to interview on my podcast.

In the latest episode, Marie shares her counterintuitive take on acquiring, and equally importantly, retaining her customers.

Digital marketing is changing at an increasing pace. What generated leads for your business 6 months ago, might not even be relevant today.

What content worked on Facebook last week, might be barely getting seen today.

While as a business owner, you shouldn’t necessarily be doing everything when it comes to marketing, you also can’t have your head in the sand.

If your team aren’t up to date with the latest marketing strategies you’re probably wasting a substantial amount of time and money.

One of the people at the forefront of all things digital, is Neil Patel, co-founder of Crazy Egg, Hello Bar and KISSmetrics, so I was incredibly happy to chat to him on my podcast recently.

Neil’s blog alone ammasses an impressive 1 million visitors each month, The Wall St Journal listed him as one of the top 10 most influential people on the web.

What I absolutely love about Neil is that he gets straight to the point. No small talk or fluff in this episode just pure marketing gold that you and your team can implement into your business, and see results.

Here’s a quick run down of what you’ll learn from this episode:

3 little know, yet highly effective, growth marketing tactics that the world’s most effective businesses use to generate traffic and sales

The one piece of marketing advice from experts you and your team should stop following immediately

How involved you as a leader should be in marketing, and when you need to let your team take the lead

3 budget-wasting marketing mistakes business owners make (and what you should be doing instead)

This is a very special, and meaningful podcast for me.

Many of you have heard me talk about personal development, expanding human potential, and consciousness for many years now. I often say that I import my wisdom from India. More specifically, I import it from a beautiful organisation called O&O Academy who I regularly visit in India.

In this episode, I’m sharing a powerful interview with the great man and sage who coaches Tony Robbins, Usher, Mike Novagrats, Ari- Emanuel, and many corporate and entrepreneurial CEOs around the world.

We dive deep into becoming a conscious wealth creator, shifting the fuel that drives us, overcoming limitations as founders and we break through the myths that exist around spirituality.

Being a great entrepreneur goes far deeper than the technical side of running a business. It’s not a coincidence that most of the highly successful business minds I speak to have a deep sense of purpose (deeper than purely making money) and commitment to optimising their own consciousness and personal performance.

Would you take someone out on a first date and propose to them?

Of course not, that would be crazy… you need to get to know each other and build a relationship before you start thinking about marriage.

Wait.. why am I talking about dating, aren’t I supposed to be the ‘business guy’?

Before you ask, no… The Entourage isn’t moving in a new direction.

The reason I’m talking about dating is because how you turn strangers into paying customers online almost directly mimics the dating process.

Trying to get an audience, who have NO idea who your business is, to buy from you online is the dating equivalent of skipping the drinks and flowers, and going straight in with an engagement ring.

Unfortunately, too many business owners make this mistake, and then wonder why their Facebook ads aren’t working, or why their websites aren’t generating enough leads.

So the question remains… How do we turn strangers into customers and get them to a point where they’re not only buying from us, but getting their friends to buy from us too?

Recently, I was fortunate enough to record a podcast with Ryan Deiss, Founder of Digital Marketer, who revealed his entire 8-step digital marketing framework to help business owners solve this exact problem.

In the podcast we cover: - 8 essential steps to convert strangers into repeat customers and loyal fans - The digital marketing mistakes business owners make (and how to avoid them) - How to win at Facebook ads in 2018 and beyond

In the seed and startup stages of business chances are you’re forced to do almost everything from a leadership perspective.

You might have juniors in your team, who are able to do things 60% as well as you, but the majority of the day-to-day management probably still rests on your shoulders.

If you're launching a market campaign, you're the one leading it.

If you’re building a new sales process, you're the driving it.

If you’re building a new product, or a new service for your customers, you're the one figuring out how to do it.

In all these situations the common denominator is that you are the HOW person.

If you want your business to grow you need to shift this paradigm - you need to stop thinking ‘How can I do this?’ and start thinking ‘Who can do this?’

If you insist on remaining the ‘how’ person there will always be a glass ceiling to growth, because no matter how much you try and get out of yourself personally, you’re only human. There’s only so much you can do each day.

Instead you should be thinking: How do I bring on exceptional leaders? And how do I induct them, train them and help them develop to a point where they can perform these functions better than I can?

In this podcast I’ll share key frameworks and tips to enable you to do just this.

Follow these frameworks, and you’ll be able to gradually elevate yourself out of the day-to-day and become the conductor of the orchestra, instead of trying to play every instrument yourself.

One of the biggest concerns I have when looking at businesses, particularly businesses doing seven figures and above, is that the vast majority of them are operating without a CEO.

Now, it's not that there isn’t somebody who calls themselves the “CEO” - because there always is.

It's just that the person who calls themselves the “CEO” is so busy doing everything. They're so deeply entrenched in the day-to-day operations that there is nobody actually architecting the future of the business.

There's nobody overseeing the development of the organisation, the team, and the infrastructure that sits within it, because everybody's busy living in ‘doing’ mode.

I get it, at the beginning, when you’re in startup stage this is almost inevitable, but the issue is too many CEOs remain in this ‘doing’ mentality, even when they’ve reached a point that they have the resources to deploy against employing people.

It’s easy to fall of the trap of being the ‘doer’ or ‘technician’, particularly if this is how you have always operated, but if this sounds like you, you’re not operating as effectively as you could be.

So the question is: What does it take to be a great CEO that can step out of the day-to-day operations of your business and focus on being the leader of your company?

In this podcast, I share 7 traits that separate a good CEO from a great CEO.

Stop and imagine for a minute how quickly your business would grow if you could double, or even triple, the amount of leads you convert.

Now imagine being able to reduce your sales cycle down from a few weeks, to just a few days.

You’d be able to grow your team, reinvest in marketing, and maybe even take some time off to enjoy yourself.

While you might be shaking your head, thinking this isn’t possible, the good news is these results are not as far out of your reach as you think.

The formula for converting more leads and acquiring more customers lies in your sales process.

In fact the most expensive mistake I see business owners make is not even having a structured sales process in the first place.

Are you guilty of this…?

I’ll be real with you, if this is you, you’re quite literally throwing money down the drain.

Don’t worry though - we can fix this. Just keep reading…

In this episode of The Jack Delosa Podcast, I chat to one of Australia’s leading sales experts, Petar Lackovic, who gives away his 3 step framework for building a high-converting sales engine within your business.

We even dive into how an Entourage Elevate Member increased their sales conversions from 35% to 80% (using this exact framework).

Every month I speak to hundreds of business owners who are facing a similar growth barrier…

Their business is making decent money - usually upwards of $150k annually.

The business owner knows they have a market and a good product or service.

But despite that, they just can’t seem to grow their revenue at the rate they want.

It’s almost as if there’s an invisible barrier there preventing them from surpassing the 7-figure revenue mark they’re aiming for.

Can you relate?

If you’re nodding along… keeping reading.

Crazily enough, throughout all these conversations I’ve been able to pinpoint one common denominator between businesses struggling to crack the $1 million mark.

The business owners are spending far too little time on revenue generating activities.

Day-to-day they’re distracted fighting fires, managing their team and executing projects.

Leaving almost no time to spend focusing on the two areas that genuinely drive growth - sales and marketing.

In fact, research even shows that the average business owner in this bracket of Australia spends only 11% of their time on sales and marketing.

So, you want to break the $1 million mark? The answer is simple… be an anomaly.

Start spending 80% of your time on activities that actually drive growth.

I imagine you’re probably shaking your head right now, wondering how this could ever be possible given your hectic schedule.

So in this episode I dive into this strategy in more detail, to uncover how you can realistically spend more time on revenue-generating activities and break through the glass ceiling holding your business back.

Ever feel as if you’re doing ALL the stuff the experts tell you to do online, but it’s not translating into sales and more cash?

This is a trap I sadly see far too many entrepreneurs fall into.

And is why having a structured sales process is so crucial to the growth of your business.

In fact, implementing a more structured approach to sales has helped one of our Entourage members, James Banks, increase the conversion rate from lead to customer at his Digital Marketing Agency, by 252% - from 25% to 63.4% conversion.

As a result his turnover has also grown from $70,000 annually to $600,000 and he has built his team from 2 to 8.

In entrepreneurship passive income is myth. There's absolutely nothing passive about building a successful business, and while you may at some point be able to step out of the day-to-day... there's absolutely nothing passive about the path you'll take to get there.

The reason I'm saying this is because I see a lot of people promoting this idea of getting rich quickly through passive income, but generally they're selling a fantasy that leads people down a path that does not exist.

The number one factor that will determine how effective and productive you are is this: how much time you can spend uninterrupted on one particular task. Do the thinking, get clear on your highest and best use, and reclaim your time. This will enable you not only to be incredibly effective but also to rejuvenate and re-energise.

Taking control of your schedule and your environment enables you to be more present. When you are engaged in work, be fully engaged. When you are not, do your best to fully disengage. Wherever you are, be there. The pauses re-energise you, make you more whole and fulfilled, and therefore make you more effective when you do decide to return to the work. Being effective, and being able to sustain that effectiveness, is how you will build your legacy.

Whether you start our with no money, or run out of money, most entrepreneurs are familiar with the financial struggle of building a business, especially in the early stages. Being an entrepreneur is more about resourcefulness than resources, and working with nothing might be one of the best things you ever do.

Today's question is about business plans: "Was your first business plan original or did you use a template of some sort?" The truth is, I didn't use a business plan and never have. For most entrepreneurs their path starts with exploration of idea, or a 'What if?' moment. Vision is crystallised as the business matures, but the early stages are about passion, iteration and adaption, not having a business plan.

What I want people to realise today is that these rules don’t have to be your rules. If you’re not happy with your life, your work, your health, your education, you can change that. The fundamental premise that will enable you to take control of your life is first realising that you are in complete control and that you are creating yourself and the world around you every single day.

In this episode I answer the greatest question that has ever been asked on #AskJackD to date… and I get ANGRY at anyone who has ever made an excuse for not following their dreams. Because I don’t buy into excuses, and you shouldn’t let yourself either because NOTHING is sadder than a dream left unfulfilled.

This might shock you, but I don’t believe in work life balance. Why not? It positions work as the enemy, which it shouldn’t be. If you align what you do with what you love then work won’t be the enemy. It’s only when you’re not living on purpose, not pursuing your passion that work becomes “work”.

The word ‘Hustle’ is getting thrown around a lot at the moment. People will tell you to ‘hustle harder’ if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. This isn’t always true. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle; the ‘busyness’ of running a business, that you forget to think bigger picture. You forget the vision behind the hustle. If you want to separate yourself, what you need to do is hustle smarter. Let vision guide your decisions. Have absolute clarity about where you want to be in 1 year from now, 3 years from now, and execute your ‘hustle’ accordingly.

Breaking news: You don’t need a morning routine to be successful. A lot of people will tell you to wake up at a certain time, eat a bowl of granola, mediate and exercise because this is what successful people do. For some that might work, but for me it doesn’t.

In this episode, we discuss the difference between building a personal brand and a business brand. I discuss with you these three main things that I think are important when building up your brand. 1. Have an expertise and substance behind what you are taking to market. 2. Stand for something, when you have something to say, you’ll have the voice to say it. 3. Say it. Build your own audience and talk to them.

I’m usually a pessimist when it comes to Australian politics. But I have an optimistic view of who Turnbull is and the potential changes I think we will see as Australian entrepreneurs in the months and years to come.

Recorded live at the Sydney Unconvention, we discuss the struggles that younger entrepreneurs can find when trying to be taken seriously by older generations. As entrepreneur what’s important is to remember that we are walking an unbeaten path, there is no road map and the guide we need to follow is ourselves. Once you truly understand this, the opinions of others won't matter to you.

I always talk about education, particularly in the context of entrepreneurship. In this episode I discuss where I think traditional education needs to lift its game and how traditional education is set up, not according to student completion rate or outcomes of learning, but is ranked based on the academic research that they conduct, and the research that they publish. This is a 4.4 trillion dollar industry globally, yet no one is looking at the product and at how to make teaching better.

It’s easy to get sidetrack with your next ‘great idea’ while currently working on your latest ‘great idea’. The most important part of building a business isn’t about whether or not you have a great idea, but the execution of that idea. Business takes time and it can be slow, so we get familiar with the challenges within that industry and then look over to the other idea, thinking is seems like a faster track to success. The number one thing that you need to do when starting and building a business is FOCUS.

A lot of people can relate to the fear of thinking you don’t know enough to start or run your own business. It’s similar to asking yourself ‘when are you qualified’ to pursue what you want? In this episode I answer a couple of your questions, including a discussion around what one of the greatest minds in history created when deemed ‘unqualified’.
