In today's episode, I am featuring The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins.

I'm thrilled to share some of my absolute favorite insights from this book in this episode. Believe me, they're so simple that you'll wonder why you haven't been using them all along. You have an idea, a goal, a dream, but you're stuck in that overwhelming cycle of overthinking. The "what ifs" and self-doubt start creeping in, and before you know it, you're left with unfulfilled aspirations.

Well, that's where the magic of 'The 5 Second Rule' comes in. Mel Robbins proposes a brilliantly straightforward concept: the moment you have an instinct to act on a goal, you count down 5-4-3-2-1 and then physically move. Yes, you heard that right, just a simple countdown can jolt you into action, breaking the chains of hesitation and launching you into a state of momentum.

If you enjoyed this episode, and have not listened to episode 23 of the podcast, where I featured her more recent book 'The High 5 Habit,' I highly recommend diving into it as well.

Enjoy!

In today's episode, we have the incredible Ed Mylett, and he's got another question that really makes you stop and think. So here it is: What is your fear costing you? Now, this is one question that we should be asking ourselves every single day. Life is just too darn short to ignore the impact of fear.

You see, when we allow fear to take the wheel, the outcomes we get aren't exactly what we're hoping for. It's like a one-way ticket to Regretville, where you constantly wonder what could have been. And let's not forget about Stagnation Town, where you feel stuck in a rut, going through the motions but never really getting anywhere.

Fear also loves to rob us of our potential. It's like that dream crusher that keeps us from reaching for the stars and becoming the best version of ourselves.

Ed Mylett drops a gem in this clip that really hits home. He says, "I don't think God gave you another day in your life because you needed it. I think he added another day to your life because somebody needed you." Woah, talk about a perspective shift!

Your purpose in life extends far beyond your own ambitions and achievements. It's about the impact you can have on the lives of others. There's nothing quite like that feeling of knowing you've made a positive difference in someone else's world. It's like a superpower, but instead of saving the world from supervillains, you're changing lives for the better.

This clip is from Ed Mylett's great podcast - look him up on your favorite podcast player as he has some of the most powerful guests sharing incredible insights for personal growth in all areas of life.

In this weeks episode, I share my favorite insights from Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy's latest book - '10x Is Easier Than 2x.'

According to Dan Sullivan, a renowned coach for highly successful entrepreneurs, he emphasizes that achieving 10x growth is significantly easier compared to striving for 2x growth. Initially, many people find this concept perplexing because the mere thought of 10x growth makes them believe they need to put in 10x more effort to accomplish it. However, becoming a 10x entrepreneur is vastly different from what most individuals assume.

The notion of 10x is not the ultimate outcome; instead, it represents a counterintuitive process that can be applied whenever you desire exponential growth in your personal and professional life.

If you love this book, check out 'The Gap & The Gain' and 'Be Your Future Self Now' which are both featured on my podcast.

In this weeks episode, I explore my favorite insights from Greg McKeown's great book - Effortless.

Effortless revolutionizes the concept of productivity by emphasizing the value of achieving optimal results with minimal effort and time investment. It challenges the contemporary glorification of busyness and advocates for the notion that accomplishing more with less is the ultimate aspiration.

It's a common misconception that being busy automatically means being productive. But let me ask you this: Have you ever thought about what truly defines productivity? Is it just about staying occupied, or is there something more to it?

In this book, you will learn that mere busyness does not equate to true productivity. Genuine productivity lies in the ability to efficiently pursue endeavors and make substantial progress towards the ultimate objective while judiciously utilizing available resources.

In today's Philosopher Byte, author and motivational speaker Jack Canfield shares an important message about setting goals.  As we hit the final month o 2022, many people are looking to set goals for 2023 and what Jack shares in today's talk is really important - you need to be specific with your goals.

Jim Rohn was quoted as saying, "Don't set a goal to have $1 Million dollars for the money; set a goal for $1 Million dollars for the type of person you would need to become to be worth $1 Million dollars."

As Jack reinforces today, it isn't always the result that matters, its about focusing on the type of person we are becoming in pursuit of our goals.

In this week's edition of the Philosopher Insights Podcast, I share my favorite insights from Super Human by David Asprey.

I really enjoyed the book and was inspired to read the bio hacks being used by someone who is fully committed to living to 180 years old.

According to Asprey, the most prominent methods of protecting your body from mitochondrial degradation and as a consequence boost the probability of living longer are:

  • Exercise, especially High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
  • Intermittent fasting
  • A good gut microbiome, use prebiotics and eat as few fast carbs as possible
  • Good sleep, achieved with the help of the Oura Ring and Blue Light Blocking glasses

I hope you enjoy the insights and if you are really into learning how to put more years into your life, I would highly recommend the book.

n this week's Philosopher Insight, we take a closer look at 'Deep Work' by Cal Newport.

One of them is Deep Work, a book that argues that focus is the new I.Q. in the modern workplace andSo Good They Can’t Ignore You, a book that debunks the long-held belief that “follow your passion” is good advice.

The wealth of information available at our fingertips today has created a poverty of attention. We must recognize that the strength of our attention is at the core of everything that we do.  This is why 'Deep Work' is such an important book because the majority of people are drowning in non-productive tasks and daily distractions.

Rest In Peace - David A Arnold

In today's Philosopher Byte, I wanted to share insights from a very special comedian, who passed away suddenly in early September 2022.   David A. Arnold was fast becoming a top comedian and show writer in the industry and finally making his dreams come true of being a well-known stand-up comedian.

I only discovered him this month, but his story and his recent passing really had an impact on me, so I wanted to share his insights as a tribute to this incredible man.

David A. Arnold has two Netflix specials out:

1) Fat Ballerina

2) It Ain't for the Weak.

I simply wanted to record this podcast as a tribute to his life - and hopefully get more people watching him work his gift on stage.

Enjoy!

In this week's edition of the Philosopher Insights Podcast, I share my favorite insights from 'Limitless' byJim Kwik.  I have been following Jim for quite some time as he is a memory and speed reading expert with a fantastic podcast I have been listening to every week.

When I heard he had a book coming out, I bought it, read it, and loved it.  In today's episode, I capture some of my favorite insights, but to get the full depth of Jim's teachings, you need to read this book to absorb all the goodies.

If you are looking for better focus, memory, or how to read and learn faster, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

As a side note, I took Jim's speed reading course and it was easily one of the best courses I have ever taken. You do have to commit to the practices he suggests, but if you practice daily you can more than triple your reading speed.

In today's Philosopher's Byte, one of my favorite speakers on high performance, Brendon Burchard shares an important message about moving forward with the dream.

Too many of us are waiting for a better moment, and not realizing that the moment to start is now.  We cannot put off doing what we really want - life is too short to play the waiting game.

In this week's edition of the Philosopher Insights podcast, I share my favorite insights from one of the best books I have ever read.  I read the entire book the same day I cracked open the cover  - it was so good that I lost myself in the wisdom author Tim Grover delivers in this book.

Here is Michael Jordan's quote on the book's cover:  "Tim Grover was by my side for 15 years, and knows more than anyone about building winners.  This book is essential for those who want to be the best at what they do...and are willing to pay the price to get there." -  Michael Jordan.

I highlighted almost every page of this book - it's packed with insights and the language Grover uses is compelling and keeps you wanting more.  I only scratched the surface and as I said in the pocast, I highly recommend everyone read this book.  It's extremely intense but it's worth reading.

Pressfield is one of my favorite authors - he has written great books like Turning Pro which I featured in Episode 35 of this podcast, and many others - The Artist's Journey, Do the Work, and many more.  He is a brilliant writer and I highly recommend looking up any of his books - you won't be disappointed.

n this week's podcast, I wanted to share the incredible wisdom of Steven Pressfield - Turning Pro was the first book I read from him and now I am on a mission to read the rest. He is an amazing writer and I loved the book.

This is from Steven Pressfield's website: Turning Pro – Steven Pressfield

"I wanted to do a follow-up to The War of Art that got into the concepts of addictions and “shadow careers” as substitutes for embracing our authentic personal destinies and that dug more deeply into the differences between the amateur mindset and the professional mindset as a means of confronting and overcoming Resistance. I also wanted to get a little more personal than The War of Art and tell my own story in greater detail."

This book delivers, it's a very quick read but well worth it.

In today's edition of the Philosopher Insights Podcast, I share my favorite insights from the beautiful book 'Create the Life You Desire' by Frank DiGenova.

This book takes you on a journey of all the core aspects of creating the masterpiece life, the life that you always dreamed of having.

I wanted to quote the disclaimer he shares from this book, it's worth reading carefully before listening to the episode.

"Due to the spiritual nature of me, your Higher Self, it may be possible that you will be unable to manifest everything that you want. My divine purpose may prevent you from attaining all your desires. This is due to reasons which may not be conducive to your awakening here on Earth. Your life's experience may contain elements that have been mutually decided upon pre-incarnation, which may be affected by and not limited to: karmic debts, and other contracts and agreements which may be required to be paid in full.

All agreements are not final and are subject to change at any time. Nothing is guaranteed, however, all circumstances and events that may occur are the results of my deepest love for you. All that may arise comes from my desire for our Soul to awaken in physical form.

Deepest Love,

Your Soul

This week I wanted to share a real-life example of what happens when you apply Hal Elrod's Miracle Equation.  In the book, 'The Miracle Equation', which I featured in Ep. 31, Elrod shares numerous examples, but this one came to him after he had published the book and highlights the power of simply having unwavering faith and the willingness to apply extraordinary effort.

In this episode, Hal Elrod reads the letter he received from Miranda Martin who was diagnosed with a hereditary life-long illness. She made the decision to apply the Miracle Equation and it completely changed her life.

I recall a great quote:  "Faith is like Wi-Fi, it will connect you to what you need." I hope this story inspires you to have faith in whatever it is you are trying to achieve and follow it up with extraordinary effort so that you may one day experience the power of 'The Miracle Equation.'

In this week's edition of Philosopher Insights, I introduce you to my favorite insights from 'Wellbeing at Work'  by Jim Clifton and Jim Harter.

"The new workforce  -  especially younger generations  -  want their work to have a deep mission and purpose, and they don't want old-style command-and-control bosses.  They want coaches who inspire them, communicate with them, and develop their strengths."

This book hit the nail on the head when it came to what I believe is critical for organizations today. A focus on mental health goes beyond the token nature of what most organizations are doing today.

The most important people in organizations today to lead employees through challenging times are the managers. Employees need coaches more than they need the typical manager.  Organizations must focus on upskilling their managers to become better coaches in order to meet the demands of their employees.

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to make a difference in their organization, especially those that are in roles of management or involved in organizational transformation.

In this week's podcast, the renowned psychologist Dr. Benjamin Hardy explains how to see the person you want to be and then BE that person right now. This book focuses more on BEING your future self right now rather than trying to BECOME your future self later.  When you do this, your projected FUTURE instead of your past determines how you will act.

Who is the Future You?

That query can come off as cliché. But it's actually the solution to every problem you've ever had. It provides the solution to the action you'll take today. It provides the solution to both your motivation level and your self-esteem. It determines whether you'll eat junk food, spend hours on social media as a diversion, and what time you wake up in the morning.

I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it.  It includes some incredibly powerful exercises you can try today to begin being your Future Self now.

Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte, where I share an insight from Damon West who I only learned about after listening to Ed Mylett's podcast. His story is incredibly inspiring and after listening to his thoughts, I found this clip where he shares the story of the Carrot, the Egg, and the Coffee Bean.

Consider how differently carrots, eggs, and ground coffee beans are affected by the extreme adversity of being boiled. It's a great analogy for life. I have become a huge fan of resilience, overcoming obstacles, and anti-fragility and this analogy was a perfect example of these concepts.

Although we have no control over the things that happen to us, we do have a lot of control over how we respond and, consequently, what occurs inside of us. Get out of the boiling water as soon as you can if you want to transform your hardships into an advantage. Don't linger on adversity. Be sad, but continue. Don't let bad luck or the obstacles you face define your life.

You can watch Damon West's entire clip on Youtube, the video is titled: The Coffee Bean by: Jon Gordan and Damon West - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWszGs3v6U0

Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte.  Today, Brian Tracy talks about a place where I think far too many people, including myself, spend their lives waiting to tackle the things in life they know will bring them the most joy and happiness.

“Not only do we all want the same things, but we all know what we have to do to achieve them. And we all intend to do those things… sometime. But before we get started, we decide that we need to take a little vacation to a wonderful fantasy place called ‘Someday Isle.’   --- from No Excuses by Brian Tracy.

How often do you have great ideas for things to do but then convince yourself that they are bad ideas?

After quietly answering that, think back to the last time you heard someone say, "I'll do (fill in the blank), but it's not the right moment.  It's at that moment you know you are living on Someday Isle.

In this episode, I will share some of my favorite insights from one of the most anticipated books in recent times - Atlas of the Heart.  Brene's book was #1 on the charts before a single copy of this book was ever released.

"If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and be stewards of the stories that we hear.  This is the framework for meaningful connection."

This book just feels rich, the book is heavy and meticulously crafted - so much so that you just want to hold it and read it. It's her life's work where she often references quotes from her previous books, but all in all, you will get an in-depth understanding of the importance of language and emotion.

In this week's edition of Philosopher Insights, I share my favorite insights from 'The GAP and the GAIN,' which is a great book by authors Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy.

"This one simple concept is a masterclass on positive psychology, healthy relationships, mental well-being, and high performance. Everything that psychologists know about how to create a high-functioning and successful person can be achieved using the GAP and the GAIN." ~Benjamin Hardy.

In this book, you learn the tremendous power behind measuring yourself against your former self, rather than measuring your current self to a future ideal. This concept is a powerful mind shift for any leader, parent, entrepreneur, or athlete because it will fundamentally change how you perceive the achievements in your life.

Here is a testimonial from author Gay Hendricks, "Get this book and read it carefully -- it's worth it! The Gap and the Gain has more practical wisdom per square inch than anything I've read this year."

I will only scratch the surface by sharing my favorite insights from this book, but to go deep on this concept, I would highly recommend adding this one to your growing library.

In this book, Jay shares his daily battle with mental health, what he refers to as "living in the gray." This is a really well-written book that I believe will help more people show up with more courage and vulnerability.

If you struggle with anxiety or depression, I encourage you to not only listen to these insights but take the next step and read this book. Warning: Jay wanted to be authentic with his message, so the book does contain explicit language, but if you can look past that this book will definitely have an impact on your life.

Enjoy!
