An open-ended exploration of the relationship between grief, embodiment and spirituality. By nature, loss changes our perspective on life and death, and can often lead to an opening, deepening or awakening of a connection to something greater, a shift in our personal conception and experience of spirituality. I'm interested in the role of embodiment in this process. This podcast includes personal anecdotes from my own experience of grieving and guiding embodied grief processing for others as well as interviews with others who are walking their own grief path. May it nourish you deeply.

Ifetayo ‘Ife’ is a clinical professional counselor, dance/movement therapist, artist, instructor and group fitness professional. She is also the proud owner of Ase (Ah-Shay) Counseling and Wellness, a private practice based in Chicago, IL. As a Chicago native Ife’s passion for dance and healing began within the African drum and dance community of Chicago. Ife went on to study a variety of other dance styles, however traditional West African and Caribbean dance remained her passion and inspiration. As a result Ifetayo completed her Master’s thesis at Columbia College of Chicago on the innate healing properties and therapeutic aspects of West African dance for people of the African diaspora in a community setting. It is Ife’s philosophy that wellness manifests through mental, physical, spiritual, and communal development, thus her belief and passion for holistic health and wellness drives her life's work. Ife works with individuals and groups to reclaim their power by accessing their inner strengths and using those strengths to achieve their goals, overcome challenges and create new behaviors and practices. When she is not dancing, meditation and writing are some of Ife's favorite ways to recenter. She also enjoys collecting vinyl, the beach, and live music.

Morenike and I get into so much goodness in this episode:
The value of not running away from grief triggers and the connection that has to her spirituality.
The importance of not suppressing grief and where her capacity to hold the complexity of her grief comes from.
The role of art & creativity in processing her grief.
The power of softening into grief. She reminds us that our bodies are what makes us human, we need then on this journey and we don't need to be strong about it.
How grief was a wake up call for her and ultimately led her away from her corporate job and into her life's path.

Body Grieves, Spirit Calls is an open and non-linear exploration of the relationship between grief, embodiment and spirituality. This podcast will be a collection of stories, reflections and interviews with soulful individuals with their own stories of embodied grief and spirit. I'm so looking forward to opening this conversation and diving into this journey together.
