Hi everybody !

Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Tempered. It is Michael here and I will be your host for today.

In our previous episodes you heard Ryan talk about success rituals. He focused specifically on developing your spiritual success rituals. I would recommend that you all go and listen, it is very insightful.

Today I will be talking all about “The big reset”

And no this is not what conspiracy theorist believe what is happening with covid and the governments attempts to control the general population, this refers to something we all have to go through from time to time.

I will be talking about why this topic is relevant to you, how you can go about doing a reset in your life and even why it is necessary for you to reevaluate your life on a constant basis.

So I am going to explain this topic in light of Video game logic. As an avid gamer I have played many games over the years, but there is one thing you can do all games! Reset !

When you die in a video game, you can simply respawn and try again. Now the second or third time you play a level you have a slightly higher chance of success than before because of the experience you gained.

Life is the same … say for example you start with something you are very passionate about, but fail miserably! Don’t despair reset and try again !

Sir James Dyson is one of the greatest inventors this generation. And as an inventor, he wanted to create a vacuum design that didn’t require bags, which was something no one even considered doing at the time. It took 5,126 vacuum designs until he finally created a vacuum that worked. He tried selling his vacuum to manufacturers… and was rejected.

Today he is a multibillionaire

Sometimes you should take a moment and RAT

Reset

Adjust

Try again

It is important that you adjust otherwise you won’t see any different results or progress.

Finally, you can do daily resets

It is like a Bonsai tree

Did you know a Bonsai tree is a normal tree that has been trimmed daily for many years ?

I have this one song from Johnny dash that means a lot to me old Chunk of coal is and it’s lyrics are as follows :

I'm gonna put a smile on everybody's face

But I'm gonna kneel and pray everyday

Lest I should become vain along the way

I'm just an old chunk of coal, now Lord

But I'm gonna be a diamond some day

I'm gonna learn the right way to talk

I'm gonna search and find a better way to walk

I'm gonna spit and polish my old rough-edged self

Until I get rid of every single flaw

I'm gonna be the world's best friend

I'm gonna go around shaking everybody's hand

This is what is strive to Be like and live like. What strikes me is the start I’m gonna kneel and pray everyday

I want to make Daily adjustments to my life in order to be better. Reset often and make changes daily. I believe if you improve with only 1 percent everyday just 1 percent, after 100 days you will already be 100 percent better

Success Rituals
Opening:
Good day everyone, I would like to welcome you back to TEMPERED PODCASTS. I really hope you enjoyed the last episode, whereby we discussed our social environment and how important it is to pay attention to the people in your life and how that can play a major role in how well your own life is going.

Concluding point:
The main objective of what I discuss with you today is a simple, sustainable, and a practical method that can help you defeat and overcome a meaningless life. By establishing the three rituals I will discuss today, will basically mean setting up for yourself a fundamental framework that will propel you into finding yourself and giving yourself the best chance to being able to live a life to the full.

So, what rituals do you need?
So, at this point, you probably seriously interested to know what rituals you need. I want to suggest three rituals that you should establish in your life even if you don’t know what your ultimate life goals are because by establishing these three rituals, I believe that you will find your meaning in life. If there is one thing to understand about this unforgiving life is that nothing can be found without looking and that is even applicable to the meaning of life. To have rituals means to look, and to look is to find, and to find creates meaning.
Part one:

Ritual 1: Spiritual Attention
Something to look for
I want to present three rituals that we should all establish in our lives, but each ritual has depth for discussion, and I will break it all into three different parts. I have listed them in an order of importance and will be released as such. The first and most important ritual for us to establish in our lives is “attention to spirit.”
What does your spiritual life look like? Do you have faith in God? Have you adopted his teaching into your life? For me it has looked like this for most of my life. My life I have been like a boat without an anchor. I have been moving in the world without enough direction and I have let the tides and the wind take me to a place simply because I have not started my day with God.

If wed start to do this more consistently, we will notice how our lives can become more assured with regards to having a purpose. The odd thing is though, is that God provided us all with a purpose and even if we have yet to find our life’s purpose, by knowing God provided you with one will give you purpose. You will now have purpose because God gave you something to look for and so by knowing this, we can begin our journey of finding our meaning in life. But first we need to know God and then we to ask him daily as soon as we open our eyes.

What happens when you become spiritually aware?
To become more spiritually aware is to allow yourself to be humble enough to accept that you cannot be all that you should be with your own wisdom. With all due respect, I am not sure anyone in this world knows enough to do it all on their own. To find purpose on their own. Sometimes it takes the birth of child, the insertion of love into our lives, taking responsibility for our family members etc. All of which originate from Gods hands and his will. For he is the creation of all and not only of what I refer to here.

When we allow the ancient wisdom of God to influence our life then we learn how to appropriately act in world conducive to the betterment of yourself and others in symbiotic way. We even learn of what is good for us but more importantly what might be deceivingly good for us, like money, glory, status, addictions, emotional impulses etc.
Reading scripture and applying it in your life allows for God to take hold of your destiny and having faith in his plan for you and this alone will provide you with purpose. If you are not a believer yet, that is okay.

So what is perception?

Perception is commonly and broadly defined as the way in which we regard, understand, and interpret something.

Instincts are different

Let me explain why. Consider the fact that you were born like myself and everyone else in a specific place. At the exact moment you were born consider what sort of view on the world you had at that moment.

At the exact moment you came into this world, you relied not on your perception but rather on God given instincts and more importantly the ability to learn. So by considering this we can safely assume that perceptions are developed and guided by what we learn.

The methods of learning that develop our perception

Now. The thing is that for us to learn something we can engage in two separate methods. Trial and error being the first and general imitation being the second. Both methods have real utility but should be used in a symbiotic manner. Now our perceptions are found between the two of these methods and it is so important that we balance out both so that the learning processes we all go through are not brought to a halt.

Why balance is important to avoid un-necessary limitation.

Consider the baby circus elephant that was tied to a stick when it was young. The elephant did not have the strength to move the stick and therefore remained stationary restrained by the stick simply because it was still young. However, consider the fact that this elephant grew to strong and powerful enough to move the stick, but the perception of constraint and the lack of self-belief stops the elephant from roaming across Africa at stretch of 3000 miles under desert like conditions and in the process this elephant would be able to knock over massive trees to eat of its fruits.

What metaphorical benefit can we gain from the elephant story?

Think about it. Are you not tied to a stick? Do you have perceptions in your life that stop you from fulfilling your potential? Can you dispense with the stick that gives you a limiting and false sense of constraint?

·       Limiting wisdom of the world:

My personal revelation

What is so strange about this topic for me today is that it was only last month that I believed that podcasting was a practice way beyond my current capabilities. It wasn’t until I tried that I realized that I am now on Spotify and that I have collectively with my partner accrued 100 + listens on the platform.

Maybe you want to start a podcast yourself or maybe you want to write a book or maybe you want to become a gym instructor, my advice would be to get up and start the podcast, to start writing and to start training yourself and others. You must accept your position as a beginner so it won’t be perfect but that doesn’t mean you should re-affirm the false perception that you are not cut out to do what you trying to do. People overestimate what can be done in a day but underestimate what can be done in ten years. Arnold Schwarzenegger said stay away from the neigh Sayers because these people will only damage your perceptions. Pay attention to who claps when you win because that can be a huge driving force towards your success. I encourage you to work on yourself by being pro-active and to see the consequential positive development of your perceptions.

If you have anything you would like to discuss with regards to this, please contact either myself or my good friend Michael Van Den Berg via email @ intelligencescouts1@gmail.com . We would love to hear from you. Until the next release I want to say thank you once again for listening to Tempered podcasts.

Episode 3 - productive past times

Your job does not define you, What you do outside of your regular 9-5 is what defines you.

If you are not very satisfied with what you do for a career your pastimes will be even more important to help you live a full life

I have a list of 4 things I deem as essential in everyday life and should be part of your routine outside of your work

*something for your body

*Something for your mind

*something for your wallet

*something for your soul

1* Something for your body

I am going, to be honest, this one is important. Not only for your confidence in life but just your general health.

This is the thing I struggle with the most. Every morning between 12:00 and 1:00 I get this urge to do something. Most of the time I just end up doing two sets of barbels lifts and then sitting back down again, but the attempt is there.

My friends find something that can help you stay fit. This might be running for some people, Pilates, gym whatever as long as it gives you a bit of mobility. That “refreshed” feeling after a gym session is incredible. Get those endorphins pumping! Exercise is also a proven way to help reduce stress.

This is certainly one of the areas I will be developing more this year.

2* Something for your mind.

Humans are like plants… you are either growing/developing or you are dying, there is no in-between.

Your mind needs two things *something to keep you sharp and * something you do to relax

something to keep you sharp

Learn a new language, a new skill as long as it lets you learn something. I have always had some desire to learn to code, I want to learn all about Python and how to write code using this. Language learning can also prove valuable for your prospects!

It will help you connect better with the culture of the people in the country you find yourself in, or might prove useful if you ever move to a country where the language you are learning is spoken.

something to relax /destress

Video games, Netflix, reading books are whatever you need to relax. Just be careful not to waste too much time doing something unproductive. I oftentimes find myself regretting a three-hour PlayStation session.

*Something for your Wallet

In Hong Kong, 44% of people aged 25 to 34 have a side hustle. A side hustle is any activity you do outside of your job that earns or potentially could earn you money.

This is where a lot of people develop their passions into businesses. I have a few side hustles. Some generate small amounts of money, others are more long-term plans that require more in-depth planning.

You have a lot of options here! Teach English, trade stocks, NFTs, crypto, buy and sell items, drop shopping the list is very long!

*Something for your soul

Friends this is arguably the most important pastime.

My life today is completely different from what it was a few years ago and it is all because of God.

People oftentimes neglect their spiritual side. As a Christian, maintaining a relationship with God is a very important part of my life. Go to church, find a community of like-minded individuals, read the bible or just pray.

My wife is constantly helping me and reminding me how important this is.

Just as a side note, if any of you are interested we have a Men’s group that meets once a week on Thursdays over Zoom. If you are seeking a Christian band of brothers, please let me know!

My friends that is all we have time for today. Please be sure to listen to our next episode in 2 weeks.  ! You can us at temperedpodcast@gmail.com

I want to begin my discussion today on the topic of setting out goals and the importance of following through on the goals we set out.

Michael pretty much referenced the variables that we need to consider when constructing our goals. This week I want to expand further on what it will take to follow through and to perhaps evaluate scary motivations that will get us there. Look I am not a believer in the fact that fear needs to be a driving force behind the willpower to get the wheel rolling on our goals, but I believe there is real utility in using the feelings we have experienced in the past to try and avoid our actions for the future. And so, it is the time of the year where we take things more seriously and try to evaluate the success of the past and what this year holds for us. You might come to ask yourself, “What would the perfect 2022 be like?”

How would it be best to set out and orient myself emotionally and physically so that I might just have the year that I could say, “Wow, what a year!?” I would like my message today to tie in with the message from last week to discuss the importance of daily Sacrifice to achieve our pre-determined goals.

Main Point 1 What is Sacrifice?
Many people think of sacrifice as a bad thing or perhaps as something that we just we do because we are compelled to. But sacrifice is essentially “voluntarily” or “involuntarily” giving up something you want now to gain something more in the future. Many of us or perhaps most of us don’t take this principle seriously enough because we thrive on tangible outcomes in an immediate sense, but we all know that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. I hope you paid attention to me saying that sacrifice can be voluntary or involuntary. You see life has a funny way of choosing our sacrifice for us.

Main point 2
What does it look like when we don’t sacrifice time for the future?
I think one of the biggest motivators in staying on task with our goals would be to ask, “What would my future look like if I didn’t read the books I needed to If I didn’t take out a pension fund if I didn’t eat correctly if didn’t obsessively stop playing video games If I didn’t spend time with my children by perhaps taking time off work.

Major Point 3
Sacrifice pride for humility
“Sacrifices do not mean we need to be our own tyrant in our lives.”
Making sacrifices is about storing up good for ourselves in the future.
Start small and don’t expect too much from yourself immediately.
Michael mentioned last week that goals need to be realistic for us so that we don’t feel overwhelmed. You might think well, “What good is it for me to content myself with starting out as a Janitor?” or you might say “What good would it serve walking for ten minutes today when I should be running for 10?”.

Episode 1 New Years resolutions

Quick overview

Why do we need new years resolutions

Practical ways to go about setting up your resolutions

Following through

Why you need New Year's resolutions #1

Why do you need New Year's resolutions if People just end up abandoning them anyway in February?

The answer is simple! It gives us something to work towards.

I used to work for a guy who took this very seriously, he had had pictures of all his material goals as a screen saver on his pc. He would look at it every day and be reminded of what he working towards.

My friends Setting goals will give you direction and purpose

As with everything in life you have to take it day by day. But the most important is to get started!

“Aim for the stars, land on the moon. “

Set up some clear goals for this year even if you haven’t taken the first week in Jan to do so.

Practical planning #2

Set up your goals

Write them down!

Set up SMART goals

Specific - Don’t generalize! If you are lacking in a specific area in your life then address it in your goals

Measurable - Assign metrics, if it is money related slap an amount on it, language learning hours and weight kgs

Attainable - Be realistic with yourself, if you would like to cut down on your sugar intake, don’t go all in and swear off all sugar. I guarantee you that within a few days you will fall back into your old habits.

Relevant - Your goals should align with your long-term plans. Don’t learn Spanish if you never plan on using it in your life! Dependent on what your needs are, maybe do something that will help develop yourself professionally, possibly helping out your career.

Time-based - The beauty of New Year's resolutions is that it comes with an expiry date! You can even split up your goal I am a big guy weighing 120kg, my plan is to be under 100kg at the end of the year. If I lose 2 kgs a month I will meet my target.

The follow through#3: Duration: TBC

To be honest this is my biggest struggle. I always come up with great initiatives but lose motivation along the way.

As I mentioned, write it down!

Put it in a place that is visible to you every day.

A practical way to solve this issue is to find an accountability partner.

Find someone who can keep you accountable for your goals and vice versa

This person should ideally be more successful than you. This does not have to be related to a specific area, but ideally someone who you admire, and look up to. Humans would always seek some form of validation from people that they aspire to be like. As this person to check in with you once a month to help you stay accountable and on track!
