In today's episode, Kert and I discuss Jesus' mention of the "Abomination of Desolation" and to whom that refers. Jesus details specific actions believers will want to take when it all starts going down. He warns that it will be a tribulation unlike anything that has happened before.
It is important to question if this is something we should anticipate? Has it already happened? Jesus goes on to warn that many will come claiming to be Jesus but don't be drawn away. We must know our shepherds voice in order to stay faithful to the end. We know it's His voice by knowing his word.

While Jesus is in the Jerusalem temple, the religious leaders try to confront Him so that He will stop teaching. They ask Jesus a question that they believe will trap Jesus and discredit Him.
Rather than answer, Jesus responds with a question to them. If they are able to answer Jesus' question, Jesus says He will answer their question. Because of the lack of response by the religious leaders to Jesus question, He refuses to answer theirs.
Jesus had and has all authority. No manner of human pressure or questioning will taint the fact that Jesus is the Son of God.

Today, Granger and I discuss the level of trust that the disciples had in Jesus at this point in His ministry. Jesus calls them to remember the miracle that He just performed. Even in the presence of Jesus, they had doubt and fear and forgot how Jesus provided. Once more, they didn't have bread because they forgot to bring it.
As Christians of the modern age, we are not immune to doubt, fear, or forgetfulness. We should put all our hope and trust in the Son of God, lest we fall into temptation. How blessed are those who believe in Jesus without seeing!

Jesus blatantly tells them no. Moreover, He says that "No sign will be given to this generation." Then He turned and left them.

Bernie joins the podcast again and talks about Jesus feeding the 4,000. If this sounds familiar to you, it's because Mark recounts a similar story in chapter 6 (episode 28). In that chapter, it retells the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. However, today's text highlights the incredible compassion that Jesus has for the people that followed him into a barren land. Jesus performs a miracle by creating an abundant amount of food from very little, and thus provides the perfect provision as only He can.

Jesus does in fact heal the man but in a very curious way. This is one more miracle that increases Jesus' popularity and increases the hatred that some people have for Him.

The love of a mother for her child is a powerful thing. But even more powerful is the love of Jesus toward His people. Today we hear the story of a mom who begs Jesus to cast a demon out of her daughter. Jesus' response challenges the mother and her response showed her true faith.
After hearing this faithful response, Jesus says, "For this statement, you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter." When she went home she found her daughter just as Jesus had said. The love that Jesus has for His people is truly a powerful thing.

Previous Episode (30): YOUR THOUGHTS MATTER | Good or Bad
2 Timothy 3:14-17
Understanding the Bible and doing what the Bible says is the key to life. No, it might not give us what the world prizes the most, but it will gift us life and life abundant. In this text, Paul writes Timothy and encourages him to remember what he has been taught his whole life about God.
While Paul is imprisoned, he finds it necessary to tell Timothy that all scripture is inspired by God and is essential so that the children of God can do His good work.
In the name of our Lord and Savior, let us continue in things that we have learned from His Holy Word!
Episode 30 w/ Kasie Noble [Mark 7:1-23]
In this episode, Kasie and I discuss a larger-than-normal passage of scripture. What happens to the commandments of God and the Word of God when humans create loopholes to avoid the following Christ? It's very simple. Jesus articulates that treating the Word of God in such a way distorts and places the traditions of men above God's Word.
In verses 17-23. Jesus explains the parable to the disciples. Here He clarifies that the thoughts of man and the words and actions that follow the thoughts are what defiles us. External things have no power over our hearts. We have to wrestle with the state of our sinful nature until we are with Him in Heaven.

As the disciples are struggling amongst high winds and waves, Jesus walks on the water. The disciples see Him and thought He may be a ghost. Jesus responded by saying "Take Courage" and climbs into the boat, causing the winds and waves to cease.
After getting to the shore, Jesus' popularity is undeniable as the people recognize who He is and spread the news of His arrival to the whole country. The people are so certain of Jesus' healing power that as they touched His cloak, they were healed.

Jesus takes compassion on them because the are sheep without a shepherd. When this world reveals its insufficiency, Jesus will always provide the sustenance we need.

Episode 27 w/ LJ McCulloch [Mark 6:14-29]
John the Baptist is murdered by King Herod. After the daughter of Herodias (King Herod's sister-in-law) danced for the king, he promised her anything she desired - up to half of his kingdom. Her response was to deliver John the Baptist's head on a platter. King Herod knew that John was a righteous man. Nevertheless, he agreed to the request and had John beheaded.
Chad and LJ discuss what the Gospel means as well as the Gospels. They also unpack what it looks like for Christians to live under submission to authority in this world. Jesus and John lived out their submission to the heavenly Father until the end.

The Scene: A demon, a possessed man, a Gentile land, the disciples, and Jesus.
The Gospel of Mark has been focusing on Jesus' authority and in the episode, we see His authority on display. Jesus' ministry sends Him and the Disciples to a Gentile land. A wild demon-possessed man, compelled by the demon (Legion), runs to Jesus and Legion begs Him to not torment them but rather to send them into the wild pigs. Then Jesus exercises His authority in front of an audience that cannot deny His power.
