Lone Mama Book Club: Recent Episodes

Lone Mama Book Club is a positive community created to unite women and mothers. Motherhood can be so many things at once: beautiful, heartbreaking, joyful, frustrating, unifying, and isolating. This club was created to build a community amongst book loving moms and pave the way for us to discuss some great (and maybe not so great) reads. The books chosen for the club focus on coming of age, womanhood, and motherhood. My hope is that this community will help make even one fellow mama not feel so alone. Although all our journeys may look different, we are all in this together.

In the first episode ever, we discuss ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens: a fictional novel that follows the life of a woman named Miss Catherine Danielle Clark (known to all as Kya). Kya is an outcast who lives out in the marshland of Barkley Cove, a fictitious town based off of coastal North Carolina. It is a gut wrenching coming of age tale and a beautiful ode to nature…all with a murder mystery expertly intertwined. The story bounces between Kya’s childhood and the potential murder of a prominent figure in town, Chase Andrews, until both stories collide to ‘present day’ or in this case, 1970. This novel is beautifully crafted and will leave readers reevaluating their own codes of ethics and morality.
