Things aren’t always as they seem. What someone looks like on the outside is not always great indicator of what’s going on inside. We need to be mindful of the fact that each individual has their own set of experiences that dictate how they look, how they feel, and how they interact with others. And even though someone may look as though they don’t care, we can’t make that assessment based on what we see. Just when we think we're making progress, we're hit with annoying little delays, obstructions, challenges, deterrents, etc. But we can't let those things keep us from continuing on our journey. Injuries, illness, poverty, trauma, and all sorts of other things might threaten to knock us off the path, but God can always pull us back onto it. When you're experiencing setbacks, don't forget that those trials are temporary. God's got you!

We are all living in our own little "bubble" whether we mean to be or not. And many times, depending on what is happening on the inside, we may not notice what is going on outside. By the time we have everything under control inside, venturing out can seem like an impossible chore. So, how do we live our lives without limiting our lives? Hope. We maintain and consistently work toward growing our hope. These days it seems like some force out there doesn't want us to do that but be vigilant! Hope is the key!

Everything we hear these days leaves us feeling more and more hopeless. My advice to you is to diligently look for what's true. Turn off the mainstream media and the alternative media. Tune in to faith, tune in to your environment, pay attention to what you can see and hear and then make your call on what is actually going on in the world. So much is being spun to fit narratives on either side of the fence and none of it is rooted in God's plan for us. So, we must cling to our faith and our hope if we are to fight this battle victoriously.

After careful consideration, I have decided to stop listening to people who push fear-mongering, and use shock tactics to get their point across. It’s vulgar and not compassionate at all. If you want to minister, be sure that you’re looking at the problem for more than just one perspective. Otherwise you’re not doing it for God. You’re doing it for yourself and for what you think is right. But what matters most as that we follow what God tells us is right. And that means we seek out compassionate solutions for everyone involved, not just the people on our side.

It's because we need time with our own thoughts and with God, to sort out the things that are causing us pain or frustration. We need time without the noise that comes with family and friendships and other relationships. And, hopefully, the connections we make will be strong enough to allow us that time when we need it. When we've been through bad things, it can take a very long time to recover. We must be honest with ourselves and actively pursue our healing. If we are to find peace and to be able to move forward, we absolutely must put in the effort. Some of us have been taught that if bad things happen, we just have to accept them. But the truth is, we can always fight back. We can always step up and defend ourselves against the things that are determined to tear us down. And God will help us. All we have to do is reach out.

Words really can hurt. In today’s podcast, I talk about the impact of our words on others and how we should approach conflict if we are interested in leaving the situation better than we found it. Nobody’s perfect. We all have our reasons for responding to things the way that we do, but if we take a little time to consider our intent and the imprint we will have on the other person, we may find it a little easier to approach any conflict in a more productive way. And in doing so, we protect our energy and allow ourselves a better opportunity to heal from trauma, use our gifts, and grow our relationship with God.

What I wouldn't give to hear something genuine. These days, it seems like more and more people are content to feed on content that is simply the most palatable part of the story...even if it means they aren't getting the whole truth. In this upside-down society we live in, it’s hard to knowhow to make a difference. In today’s podcast, I’m talking about this trend for young people to beat someone up and then take a video of it in hopes of getting likes. This is a topic that really gets under my skin. I’ve never been a fan ofgratuitous posting on social media and I hate the whole concept of rewarding stupid or evil behavior with likes or follows. There is nothing more frustrating than scrolling through your feed and seeing the same ridiculous video posted twenty times by people who are trying to maintain relevance by using a video to spark anger or outrage. Stop giving attention to all of the negative things that thrive on attention. We need to stop giving so much value to things that add no value to our world.

Our society places way too much emphasis on what something looks like on the outside. To the point that each of us has our own way of automatically assessing others simply based on the way they look. It's my belief that we'd do better to stop with the labels and simply talk to each other. It takes a lot to get to know someone and even more than that to actually understand them. When we put labels on each other, we limit our ability to truly know one another. What would happen if we just saw God's children as fellow human beings? Will we ever know?

Sometimes it's nice to have an example. Just something to help us understand what is being presented to us. I like to think that my role here is to be an example. I like to think that through sharing my experiences, I can help others who are going through things that are similar to the things I've gone through. This isn't always the case, but more often than not, the things we are willing to share can be very beneficial to those who are struggling to understand the purpose of what they are going through. That's my role. At least for now.

Nehemiah tells us of how the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt, even amidst great opposition. Often, when we're rebuilding a broken portion of ourselves or our lives, we face opposition as well. We have to keep the faith and press forward knowing that God never sends us into a battle He hasn't equipped us for. And if we're fighting a battle for which we don't feel equipped, well...perhaps we weren't actually invited to that one. Listen and be amazed and amused by my lack of podcasting prowess. If nothing else, it's a great way to fill fifteen minutes.
