We find in Hebrews 4 that God had something for Israel that they never entered into. Even Joshua, who led the second generation of Israelites into Canaan never fully obtained what God had in mind for them. He says it is available to those of us who believe today. As we look at Israel's journey from bondage in Egypt to destiny in Canaan, we find that once they were through the Red Sea there was something they needed to follow to get to where they needed to God. There was a natural route though the wilderness, but God took them away from that and led them supernaturally by a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud. How does that relate to our journey form the bondage of sin to our destiny in Christ?

As we look at the journey of Israel from Egypt to Canaan, we must understand that it is a journey from bondage to destiny. Although it was a story of a nation, it is also our story. We are called, not just to be free from bondage but also to fulfill a destiny in God. This is true both individually and corporately as the the church.

In Exodus 14, we see that Moses directed the children of Israel what they had to do to be ready to hear God speak and see him move. He ends his part of the discussion by telling that that God would move for them and that they would "hold their Peace" or in our way of speaking, you will be quiet. Let's go to the word and see what that means to us.

As the people of Israel began their journey from Egypt to Canaan, they came to a place where they were pinned at the shore of the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptian Army behind. There was no way they could survive. Moses gives them the word of the Lord. First he tells them they must put away fear. The next direction is that they must stand still. What might this mean? As we begin a New Year, it is hard not to wonder what God is doing in the decade of the 2020's. It has been a very rocky road so far, and there are many things that are still ahead which may or may not be difficult. Israel had a similar time when, after a great deliverance they found themselves in an impossible situation. The thing is, that was exactly where God wanted them to be. I think we are right where God wants us to be as well

There is something about our society that makes waiting on God extremely difficult. We have become a society of noise. We tend to see the things the world brings into our lives as inevitable. Sickness, fear, depression, lack and death are things we see as inevitable. It is true many of these things do come to us, but we do not have to accept the outcome that the world tells us as inevitable. Jesus overcame the world by not allowing the physical inevitabilities to rule him.
