We find in Hebrews 4 that God had something for Israel that they never entered into. Even Joshua, who led the second generation of Israelites into Canaan never fully obtained what God had in mind for them. He says it is available to those of us who believe today. What is it that he says we can have that they never did. He calls it a rest. What is this rest and how can we enter it. Let's find out in the Word.

As we look at Israel's journey from bondage in Egypt to destiny in Canaan, we find that once they were through the Red Sea there was something they needed to follow to get to where they needed to God. There was a natural route though the wilderness, but God took them away from that and led them supernaturally by a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud. How does that relate to our journey form the bondage of sin to our destiny in Christ?

As we look at the journey of Israel from Egypt to Canaan, we must understand that it is a journey from bondage to destiny. Although it was a story of a nation, it is also our story. We are called, not just to be free from bondage but also to fulfill a destiny in God. This is true both individually and corporately as the the church.

Paul speaks in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 about a church that has a form of Godliness but denies the power of Godliness. He lays out a description of the times they lived in as the cause for this condition. When I read his description, I see our day. Is it possible that we don't see the power of God for the same reasons. Let's see what the Word says we can do about that.

In 2 Kings chapter 6 we read of two people confronted with a frightening reality in their natural life. An army had been sent against the prophet Elisha to destroy him. As the servant went outside one morning, he saw an army surrounding their home ready to destroy them. He was understandably afraid. When Elisha came out and saw the same information, he simply said, "There are more with us than against us." What did he see that the servant couldn't. How could he see something that was not there in the natural. Let's dig into the Word to find out. One of the things that determines whether we succeed or fail in overcoming the world is what we see. In Numbers 13 we see two different groups of people. Of the 12 spies sent out by Moses to see the Promised Land in Canaan, 10 saw the promise through the lens of the difficulties they would face to take it. Joshua and Caleb saw the difficulties through the lens of the promise of God. Which one describes us?

The church of Jesus Christ eventually overcame the Roman Empire to the degree that they went from a persecuted group of Jews to the only official religion of the Empire. How? I believe the teaching in Matthew 5:38-48 tells us how. They lived a lifestyle that was revolutionary and one, that in the end, did overcome the world of their day. If we decide to live this same lifestyle we will overcome all the world can send against us in our day as well. Let's see how he said we should live this out in our day. We tend to see the things the world brings into our lives as inevitable. Sickness, fear, depression, lack and death are things we see as inevitable. It is true many of these things do come to us, but we do not have to accept the outcome that the world tells us as inevitable. Jesus overcame the world by not allowing the physical inevitabilities to rule him. If we learn the spiritual inevitabilities in the Word of God and count them as more powerful and the determining factor of the outcome in our lives, we will be overcoming the world. This episode deals with John 16:31-33. Jesus said that we would have tribulation in the world but in the midst of it we can be of good cheer. That means we do not have to overwhelmed with worry or fear but we can have faith in the midst of the trial. Why? Because Jesus has already overcome the source of the problem, that is the world. What is the world and how does knowing this help us with the problems we face today.
