We caught up with Fergus Farrell, Rosslyn Park team manager and sales manager at Halbro Sportswear clothing supplier.

Sustainable ethical clothing is a fast-growing sector and more customers are demanding a sustainable solution to their sports and corporate wear.

Are costs coming down and how fast is it becoming more mainstream?

Also known as conscious consumerism, we know that 10% of worldwide CO2 comes from clothing, that 60% of clothes are made from or with plastic and that a dump truck per second of textiles waste goes to landfill or incineration every second.

Startling facts. To find out more and how Halbro Sports customers trade off environmental benefits and do the right thing versus cost, Fergus shared his experience with us.

The Last Straw, Cheltenham.

It was inspiring to speak with Amal Patel from the Last Straw Cheltenham. A brother duo partnership based in Gloucestershire whose new business venture was founded from witnessing the huge amounts of plastic pollution entering our oceans while on holiday.

Like the WCD Group, their values are based on sustainability and while WCD is all about hydration and refill to save plastic pollution, Amal and Aahan’s business is focused on sustainable drinking straws that are made from biodegradable and reusable materials.  Their straws help protect the planet and cut single-use plastic following the Government’s ban of plastic straws in October 2020.

At use in cafes, bars, restaurants and sports venues in Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and London the Last Straw Cheltenham looks to educate and influence consumers and business with their bamboo and wheat eco-friendly products.

Our podcast Sustain That Thought explores the planet-protecting opportunities behind the Last Straw for consumers and businesses.

In this episode, we are joined by Paula Brown, head of partnerships at Forest Green Rovers.
FGR is the world’s greenest football club according to FIFA.

We know that football can inspire people and have a positive impact on many of society’s biggest matters by using sport to help inspire change.

Catching attention at the national premier level and beyond, FGR is a success story.

A carbon-neutral club since 2017, and the world’s first vegan football club since 2015, sustainability values run across the whole club’s operations.

From rainwater harvesting to renewable power and sustainable sportswear made from recycled materials.

A vegan menu on matchdays helps contribute to a reduced CO2 footprint for the club and individuals.

Reducing the use of single-use plastic is also a key driver and The WCD Group is proud to partner with Forest Green for refill.

Will is changing things up at Kingsholm with regard to food, hospitality, player nutrition and wellbeing. His job is to fuel the players and staff, and now hospitality delegates at Kingsholm. Things are certainly changing in his kitchen.

Will said that an army marches on its stomach and players are like Formula 1 racing cars, they need a well-oiled engine and different players need different fuel.  Top flight rugby training is intense and you believe ‘food is mood’ and quality food makes all the difference.

Will takes us behind the scenes and what a typical day looks like on the pass. He also has some interesting insight into sustainable foods and local produce to make great plates of food.
