On this episode, Brooklynn and her Dad discuss the very real world of crime and how to trust your gut to avoid bad situations and people.

A note from the "Dad" to parents. "Most people don't understand just how close they are to the world of crime. And along those same lines, most parents don't understand how close their kid is to crime. Public schools are essentially little towns and just like every town, even schools have bad things happening or planning to happen. One of the conversations that is a "must have" with your kids is how to deal with bad people and bad situations. While working in the juvenile detention center, I have seen your every day "typical" kid get caught up in something they had no busy being involved in. Guilty by association is a real thing. The prevention to bad company and circumstances starts with conversations. Our hope is the conversations between my daughter and I serve as a conversation starter in your homes with your kids, or if you're kid the hope is you are allowing these conversations to broaden your perspective and make you think so you can be better prepared with a response rather than a reaction. Dad Out!"

Be honest for a second. Who or what is setting the standard in your home or life? If you're not intentional in addressing culture's philosophies through conversations in your home, the CULTURE is setting the standard under your roof. Teens are learning expectations from social media, music, television shows, movies and everything else that drives culture. When's the last time you talked to your teen about what a healthy platonic or romantic relationship looks like? "They aren't old enough to date." In 2019, suicide was the second leading cause of death in the United States for ages 10 - 14. Have you talked to your kid(s) about suicide or how to properly manage their frustration? Often times, parents struggle with when to have these conversations with their kids or whether or not it's necessary to have these conversations. It's important to have these discussions because similar to pornography or drugs, kids at their school are talking about. And you know what's interesting? Suicide ideation (planning, talking, and thinking about suicide) is a fad. Kids will talk about it as a joke and that is where the conversations become dangerous.

Hi there. This is the "Dad" of the podcast. My full time job involves working with youth in the public school system who made a high risk choice with drugs or alcohol. After hundreds upon hundreds of conversations with youth, I think parents would be shocked as to who is engaging in substances and who is not. It is more common than you think, especially VAPING. What I've found is that most kids try it because they are curious about it and their main sources of information is from their peers. Parents, if your child is twelve years or older, you definitely need to have discussions around drug use because whether or not they are having the discussion with you, they are still having the discussion. Talk to your Kids. It's never too late to start having conversations.

If your child is twelve years or older and attends a public school, chances are they've been offered a vape or at the very least been around it. Regular use of vapes is more common than parents think at the Jr. High and High School level. Also, it's natural and understandable for youth to be curious about it. The worst thing parents can do is ignore the conversation. On this episode, Brooklynn asks her dad some basic questions about vaping. Have you talked to your kid about vaping or any other drugs? Hi there! This is the "Dad" of the podcast. Many parents ask when they should start having discussions with their children about topics such as cyber bullying, pornography, sexting, dating, internet safety, etc,. My answer to that is simple. When is the age that you see children with cellphones? In our case, my daughter was in 4th grade when a boy in her class had a smart phone. To me, that means he has access to the internet to look up anything he's curious about and he can download social media. That told me that it was time to start having those conversations because whether I think she's ready or not those conversations are happening around her whether she's participating or listening. My professional career has always evolved around youth and during the conversations I have, my eyes are opened to the truths they experience. You'd be surprised at how many girls have told me they looked into suicide because they were cyber bullied; or, how grown men who knew of their age would send them an inappropriate picture or request for them to send them an inappropriate picture. On this episode, I reflect on some of the things my daughter and I spoke about during the podcast. Please rate, review, comment, and subscribe if you like this content.
