Braving The Storm: Recent Episodes

Alli Blair Snyder

If you’re reading this, I’m assuming that you’re human. And my friend, which you are now, humans are capable of extraordinary things. We bravely walk through the storms of our lives and come out the other side a truer version of who we are. I believe we should do this healing together.

Welcome to Braving the Storm. I’m Alli, a business owner, Medicine Woman, researcher, professor, book editor, and wildly imperfect human. I’ve walked through unfathomable dark storms, and I’m guessing you have too.

This is where we get to talk about the hidden things that we’re scared of and embrace what it means to be brave even when it’s hard. Join me for personal stories and intimate conversations where we’re learning to live authentically, courageously, and with hope that the storm will pass and the sun will always rise again.

New episodes every Thursday, unless spirit moves me for some in-between!

Episode 3: Rebuild The Train - Walking through the storm of a job loss.

At any time in life, ya’ll the loss or change of a job is just a normal part of life. It is what it is.

But at this time so many of us are experiencing this on a country-wide scale. We’re still in a global pandemic and cultural upheaval. And if you are fortunate to have not lost your job, it has likely changed the way it looks right now. That causes mental stress. A lot of it.

When we lose our job, or more specifically our income, we have to move quickly to make sure we can stay afloat, pay bills, put food on the table, take care of our babies, keep a roof over our heads. We gotta survive, right?

Because of that very real need to move forward as fast as possible, we rarely take the time to properly grieve this kind of a loss - and I share with you from very personal experience (that I have never shared about before) that grieving a job loss, at any level of traumatic, is deeply important. Or it does come back around and manifests in your body.

When my husband lost his job through the pandemic, a few days after my miscarriage, we worked together to make sure he grieved that loss just as much as we were grieving the loss of our baby.

A loss is a loss. Or it turns into long-term trauma. As a Medicine Woman, I work with people usually months or years after trauma, and it ends up deeply rooted in our bones.

I am sharing with you, from a mental health perspective, how to work through this grief and trauma at this time. We talk about what it looks like to release this pain from your body, and how to go about doing that. We talk about how we can shift the “what now?” to “what’s possible?”

Oh. And I absolutely reject the shame surrounding going on un-employment.

Episode 2: Stop it. Stop comparing your healing journey. You are RIGHT on time.

Ya’ll, I don’t mean to get so in your face about something this early on, but I feel really strongly about this. We compare ourselves in one million ways to other people, and it’s all sucky. But nothing is worse, in my opinion, than comparing ourselves when it comes to where we are in our healing.

During this episode, I talk about the course and challenge my husband and I are launching October 20, 2020. It’s called Living Bravely in 30 Days! It is everything that got us through the darkest storms we’ve faced and the tools we used to build and authentically courageous life steeped in our healing journey.

I also share with you something so many women I have worked with recently have said to me, and one in particular who seemed to feel such shame that she wasn’t where she thought she was supposed to be during a women’s medicine circle. I basically said, “Oh, hell no. Mama, not on my watch.”

If you’d like to join an upcoming women’s ceremony bonfire, and you’re local to me in Reading, PA, find my shaman and me here at Soul Centered Wellness.

Tune in to get some real talk from your bestie, Alli, and breathe in this passion I have for tapping into your own inner wisdom when it comes to your healing journey. You are exactly where you need to be.

Big love,

Alli

Episode 1. Not My First Rodeo: Launching a podcast about braving the storms of life from smack in the middle of one - it's surely not my first one, and it won't be my last.

This episode contains mentioning and the discussion of miscarriage, infant loss, suicidal thoughts, trauma, mental health, and death.

When I say this isn't my first rodeo, what I mean is that this is certainly not the first storm I've been in the middle of. This isn't the first time I had no choice but to figure out how to be brave.

In the first episode of my new podcast, Braving The Storm, I get real with you about the storm I'm currently in: I had a miscarriage and my husband lost his job in the same week.

Oh, and we’re also right in the middle of a global pandemic.

I thought I’d be creating this podcast from the other side so I could tell you that you can make it through; but it feels more appropriate to show you that even in the middle of a storm, it’s possible to keep going, to create, and to build an authentically brave life.

I talk about how my husband and I figured out how to build this boat by pulling from how we got through losing our son, Finn, five years ago.

I gave birth, and he died immediately. That storm prepared us for all storms to come, and ones we have yet to face.

I share with you the building of our boat; Living Bravely Every Day, or the seven things we do on a daily basis to keep our heads above water and traverse the vortex a storm can feel like.

In the face of "now what", and every single one of us has experienced this is in some way during this season, I hope you gain some insight on how you can be brave and find the courage for healing, even in the darkest of days. We know for sure that the sun will always rise again.
