Her life and career began with the moral code and belief system of wanting to be considered “good”. We discuss Taylor Swift’s journey from desperately seeking the approval of others, being on top of her career, receiving public scrutiny, taking space to reinvent herself, and emerging as her empowered authentic self.
When it comes to boundaries, Taylor experienced some progress and some bumps along the road, until her boundaries were really tested and she had to make a difficult and tearful decision. Ultimately, Taylor Swift transforms into her true self and owns who she is. Taylor is relatable, connected to her fans, and just plain killing it! Last month, we discussed the differences between rules and boundaries (see episode 48). Since then, I have frequently been asked, “What About “Relationship Boundaries”? If rules are guidelines for leading groups of people and boundaries are my personal guidelines for myself, then what do we call the boundaries within our relationships?
Well here is the catch, there is no such thing as relationship boundaries! What you've heard referred to as relationship boundaries are really just relationship agreements. Parenting is challenging, but parenting a child with a mental illness can bring on a whole other level of struggles. In this episode Mary talks with one of her clients about her challenges with raising a child with a mental illness and how setting boundaries helped take care of herself, her relationship with not only her daughter with the mental illness but with her husband and other children as well.

Guilt is a normal emotion that can come up for us quite often. But it is important for us to realize that there is healthy AND unhealthy guilt. Healthy guilt can serve as a moral compass, reminding us of our values and guiding us toward ethical behavior. However, unhealthy or chronic guilt can be detrimental to our well-being, leading to self-blame or shame.
