Some people come into world of physiotherapy straight from school and uni.

In this 22nd episode of The Confident Physio show, Tristan White and Jess Soding from The Physio Co (TPC) sit down with Eliza Gwillim to get the rundown on why she chose to become a community physio, and how her career has panned out since joining TPC just under a year ago.

We delve into Eliza's typical week as a part-time community physiotherapist, highlighting client interactions that remind us of the joy found in helping others achieve milestones that are meaningful to them.
Eliza speaks about transitioning from student life to professional work while maintaining a healthy balance between personal time and job responsibilities. She emphasises how support within The Physio Co helped shape her experience positively through regular check-ins, workshops, social events, and mentorship opportunities.
When asked what's it been like working your first first job as a community physio, Eliza says:
"It's been really good on the whole. It was a learning curve at first. There was a lot more because you're self-managing your diary and communication with all kinds of people like families, next of kin, the clients themselves, and the home care managers. So there was definitely a learning curve. But saying that, the (TPC) team was super supportive, so it wasn't unmanageable."
Eliza discusses how she adapted to her new role, and how she has developed professionally across the course of the year with TPC.
"I think you settle in pretty quickly ... you've got your clients you look forward to seeing and you kind of shape your week around that, so you you're off to a good start.
"Over the nine- ish months I've been here. I've definitely developed a lot as a clinician."
Tristan wraps up the episode by reflecting on Eliza's career path—from initially considering hospital work to finding fulfillment in community-based roles—and celebrates how teamwork and guidance have contributed to both personal growth and meaningful client outcomes.

In this special episode of The Confident Physio podcast, we replay the audio from a recent webinar presented by Tristan White and Jess Soding from The Physio Co (TPC), along with three first-year physios - Natalia Bam, Jarrod Kohlhagen and Tessa Machin.

Some topics covered include:
Follow The Physio Co on Instagram to learn more about a day in the life of a community physio!
In this episode, new graduate Tessa Machin sits down with Tristan White and Jess Soding to discuss how she is progressing thus far at The Physio Co (TPC).
Tessa joined TPC as a community physio in February of this year, having originally found out about the company at the APA Job Show.
She says general talk at university around community physio roles is that young grads are thrown into the job without much support, but says her experience at TPC suggests otherwise.
According to Tessa, she feels very supported by other TPC physios and that there is a great sense of connection among team members.
Tessa says the biggest thing she's experienced in her first year on the job is developing self-confidence in the role.
Yes, there are challenges that need to be overcome - things like making time to get her admin tasks done - but this is all part and parcel of becoming an effective community physio.
Tessa discusses what she likes about working with elderly clients - specifically building rapport with them, listening to their stories, and being able to help them get results and achieve their meaningful health goals.

In this open-ended conversation, experienced physiotherapist Kathy Soo sits down with Tristan White and Jess Soding to discuss her professional journey at The Physio Co (TPC).
Kathy, from Sydney, has been with TPC since 2014 when she shifted down to Geelong in Victoria to take up an aged care role with the company. A lot has happened since: TPC is now a 100% mobile community physio practice (previously the company worked exclusively in aged care facilities), and Kathy has moved back to Sydney and has also become a Mum for the first time. Lots happening!
Kathy's story is a good one. She explained how she wanted to become a teacher but her netball coach was a physio, and this sparked an interest in the practice of physiotherapy.
Kathy decided she liked working with elderly people after doing a hospital placement where she worked in the geriatric ward, and she's specialised in that field ever since.

Or perhaps more flexibility in your working life is what you're after? If so, this episode will be of interest! Here at TPC, we've seen people change and blend their existing hospital or traditional private practice job with something different: working with Aussie seniors in their own homes. Case in point, Tony Kim, a private practice physio who adjusted his career by swapping 2-3 days of in-clinic work to on-the-road as a community physio, and now he has the best of both worlds a blend of the two. Hear Tony talk about his transition, why it's worked for him and how it could work for you. Topics covered include: i * What it's like to have more meaningful, less transactional client relationships. * How it feels to share big wins in the life of your clients. * What it's like to be part of a purpose-driven team that connects in a way that supports high performance.

While TPC itself had to navigate a major transition in its business, its physios like May-Ann had to manage the change as well. However, there was one constant: they continued working with seniors to help keep them mobile, safe and happy - a mission that continues today!

Adelaide-based physiotherapist Karleen Scott joins TPC's Tristan White and Jess Soding to discuss her varied professional career as well as her day-to-day work at The Physio Co.
Karleen has been at TPC for nearly seven years; aside from her work as a practitioner, Karleen is also a team leader for TPC members in both Adelaide and Sydney.
In this chat with Tristan and Jess, Karleen discusses:
Karleen tells the story of her client Helen, who has some physical issues but is active on the computer and likes to regularly keep Karleen up-to-date by messaging her. Helen had difficulty in moving on or off, as well as up and down, in her bed; Karleen worked with her to improve that situation.
Karleen also tells the story of another client, who is 95 and vision-impaired; on the client's birthday, she and Karleen walked a kilometre to the local McDonald's for coffee and a muffin. Not only did they have fun celebrating the client's birthday, but they also spent time working towards her goal-based program.
Karleen says that as a community physio, you have to be okay with working by yourself, but there is always support there if you need it.
She also discussed the practicalities of working with older people.
You need to have an open mind: "Be prepared for lots of changes (in clients)," she says

In this episode of The Confident Physio, CEO of The Physio Co (TPC), Tristan White, chats with two TPC physios, Maddy Low and Katie Jenkins, about what it's like being a community physiotherapist working day-to-day with Australia's senior population.
Maddy is based in Adelaide while Katie is in Sydney.
Making a difference in people's lives is a big part of what TPC physios do. That's the external part: working with clients, helping them make small changes which can have a positive impact on their life. Communicating with the families of clients is also an integral part of the role.
Maddy and Katie each share their reflections and thoughts on what it's like working with seniors specifically, as well as the community-based working environment more generally.
But there's also an internal side to working as a community physio. Being a mobile-only practice, TPC places great emphasis on culture and connection and support for one another.
The latter takes in emotional support: being there for each other, checking in to see how colleagues are going day to day.
Then there is professional support. This can take the form of chatting about client challenges and issues with peers, plus coaching sessions with senior members of the TPC team.
